For those curious, all the automatic TV dimming features on the C2 can be turned off. Just requires either a service remote or software that allows you to tweak things on the TV.
There was a fix in firmware 03.33.65 a couple of months ago that finally fixed the ASBL issue on the C2. I’m sure there’s more that could be done in the service menu, but it just voids the warranty which always freaked me out haha.
I’ve had a 42”LG C2 OLED for over a year as my main monitor. The auto dimming doesn’t bother me at all and I’ve had zero burn in.

You should have gotten the 42inches one, I got it and it's perfect! Another thing is we often ignore how contrast plays a big role in resolution perception.
It's been fun to watch your process Lee. I went through a similar on a few years back and opted for a 42". I recently upgraded from an old LG 43' LCD (HORRIBLE color, maybe 73% sRGB) to a LG C2 42" and it's been AMAZING, the size can be a little big from time to time, but for the most part is absolutely amazing. I think that the 55" would be too big for me

after many years of my own monitor journey ... my latest ideal setup is 2 panels. 35" curved ultrawide mounted 1" off of desktop surface, with a 49" curved TV mounted above and tilted downward toward the viewing position. The slight curve of both screens seems to help with the corners not "feeling" so far away. I built 2 vertical frame rails on the back of my desk - mounted the upper TV with a simple tilting mount that is flush against the rails, and the monitor below is mounted using a telescopic / accordion type mount where it can be pulled forward 12" closer to the viewing position (my desk is also very deep). The monitor's factory stand would not adjust low enough for my liking, so I removed it and mounted it as low as possible to the desk surface to reduce the overall mounting height of the TV above (in an effort to reduce neck strain from long hours of staring at both screens). I've had this setup for a couple of years now - and it is by far my favorite! keep experimenting my man!

Apple will never do that because they'll never sell such a TV, and Apple only cares about supporting mainstream and Apple products.
Love what you are doing here. A couple of things.... 1) in RUclips just use the theater mode (2 left of the full screen choice). This is how I watch most videos on my OLD Dell 32 inch monitor (with the browser set to a comfortable size... more later). 2) I get you like to full screen within each monitor. At work (when I worked in the office pre-pandemic) I never full screened anything with a 2 monitor setup. I sized all my "windows." Way too much white space in the tools I use. As for at home, with the 32"... I want bigger. And since I like sizing all my apps ("windows"), I am seriously considering that LG C3 at 42 inches (it's in my Amazon wish list). Some time after February I am going to be turning my dining room into an office... and I think I "need" that bigger monitor. So.... thanks for all your testing. It helped me out a lot. Not sure yet on that expensive dock. BTW... I too HATE the menu bar on my MacBook air (but I try my best to never use it) and not a big fan of the Dock (I was a PC guy until 2 years ago), so let us know when you and your friend come up with a fix for it.
I just jumped from a 42C2 for almost two years to a 48C4 for 3 weeks and now finally on the 55S90D. I love it! I figured id get rid of my 2nd monitor and use a 55 inch! I have my screen set up into 4 squares. My chair is reclined back a bit. I'm at least 3.5 feet away and its great! If gaming, i just push my seat back a bit.
I'm thinking of doing the same, I had a 48CX, then a 42C2, now trying the 4k 240hz 32" OLEDs, but although I really like my 42C2 its a good size and its on the wall 3 feet away, I really want to jump to QD-OLED and the S90D looks great. I wish they made the 42" as QD-OLED cause that'd be an easy upgrade.
Next test i would love to see.. two ultrawide 49 on top of each other.... with 2 inputs per monitor so they can still behave as 4 independent monitors.
I think the ideal setup is 3 monitors (2 "smaller" ones & one larger one on the end to use as an output display) I would much rather look left and right slightly with the monitors angled towards me, than deal with 4 looking up all the time. I think you need to compromise, 3 is the sweet spot imo.
Having to tilt your head back a few degrees sounds pretty horrible, but is actually great for your health.
You can do one "Main" horizontal 27" in the center. then 2 24 / 27 on each side but vertically and bellow the 27" main you can place your laptop and have it as a 4th monitor. You have that way 2 horizontal and 2 vertical. Pretty awesome.
It sounds to me, curved TVs need to come back and maybe offer a dome like TV where not only the sides curve in but the top and bottoms too for the purpose of sitting close like a personal IMAX at your desk. 8k resolution though. I've seen tech channels review monitors/TVs that can flex from flat to curved for personal preference, but they're expensive and experimental.
Yeah, why did curved go away? I still have an LG curved, it was all the rage.
I use a 42" C3 and it works really well for me, from programming to gaming and consuming media I really have no complaints.
I tried it with a C2 and I just couldn't stand the TV-ness of it. I went back to a 27" monitor.

I'm using LG C2 48". The ABL isn't a problem. It only dims when nothing is moving and just like C3, it becomes bright again when you move your mouse.
i got the c3 42 for 850 + 5 year geeksquad and i had 3 monitors, two stacks and a side and this is so much , and flex zones is fucking amazing on pc and whatever you said it was for mac. the Oled Colors are jus so beautiful ,and you're the first one that has mentioned the dimming feature beingfixed, because I was very hesitant to purchase one for that reason alone, I am glad to find the same result you have had, I aalso thought having a 2080 was going to be a problem and that was also fixed, without gsync on and the adapter.
so overall 20/10 best experience I have had and then I bought the C3 for my room so the picture quality never changes and now looking at my iphone , is disrepsectul to my eyes, love the content!
I've been using a Vizio 32" 4K TV for years. Love it.
I used a 65" TV for over a year but went back to a triple screen setup. While I love the huge 65" TV Screen for my game playing and the real estate, the biggest con for me as a gamer is that when playing games, I have to constantly alt-tab out for discord or other app checking. It doesn't leave much room for having more monitors when running such a big TV as a monitor so that was the main reason I went back to triple screen. Miss the size, but don't miss the lack of efficiency that I get having multiple monitors.
I've been using a 43" Samsung TV 1080p for over 10 yrs. Earlier this year, I took a Sony 43" X85K LED 4K UHD ($550) to my workplace to replace the office's 27" Dell monitor. Now, everyone in my department, including Finance dept has converted to Sony, once the new fiscal year was in place. I took my Sony back home and will buy another one in order to have side-by-side viewing. BTW, I have the LG 77" C3 OLED for over a year and it's awesome.
Wow. This is the comparison I didn't know I needed. A 4K TV is now officially not an option for me. Now I'm wondering about a 5k2k display vs 4 2k displays 🤔
The C3 does have a "dual PC" mode, where you can connect two HDMI inputs. This way mac os would at least see it as two separate monitors, give you two menu bars, etc....
but then will it split it into two squarish screens or will it be two tiny 16x9s?

@@bricaaron3978 I meant two 16x9's because when I tried this mode on my c3 it didn't fill up the vertical resolution, it made two 16:9 windows side by side, so a lot of the screen was black.

You should give curved superwides a try. I have the LG 38" 38WN95CP-W UW4K, IPS and I love it!
I use a 55 inch LG OLED TV instead of the multiple BenQ monitors that I used to. One feature that I love is that I have have much more variety about where on the screen I an put the programs I am using. On 4 monitors I could use 4 different programs, but on the OLED TV I can arrange those programs anywhere I want. I can have 4 programs arranged on the screen just like the 4 monitors, but on the OLED I can pull a program right to the middle of the screen if I want to.
I've been using a 55" OLED55B7A as a PC gaming display since 2018. It's a High FoV Gaming setup, in which my viewing distance for gaming is 18", giving me a horizontal Display FoV of 106°.
When the in-game FoV is increased to ~106° the image is distortion-free since the In-game and Display FoVs match, and the immersion is indescribable.

Have you looked into the Samsung Odyssey Ark 2023 edition? It's a curved 55" monitor, that allows you to use 4 inputs simultaneously on the same screen, thus giving you the feeling of 4 individual monitors while only having one monitor to deal with. It's expensive ($2500 USD), but could be a best of both worlds solution for your use case.
I have 3 x 24 " monitors next to each other and one 43" 4K television on top of them and I love it
Thank you for a productivity focused review. All the others are gaming. I want Max real estate for Max screens open with spreadsheets, texts, PDFs etc. You're review helped enormously. My biggest concern with the TV option was small text getting blurry in so many windows... But I'm getting that's not much of an issue. You keep returning to the 8k concept. Is it for that reason? Also glad you use Mac. I got divvy and what a game hanger. Thanks for that too.

About RUclips full screen in-window, just use the "Theater Mode" button, two buttons to the left of "Full Screen."

I have a 55 in LG C1 OLED as my main panel and an Alienware 34 in OLED as my side Poratrait panel running Windows 11. By far this is the best setup. I love watching movies, play games and watch some adult content on the couch. So I can always switch from my office chair, to my recliner lazy chair just by literally switching seats.
You need to install full window RUclips chrome extension for chrome and it will fill the video to the size of your chrome window.

Still working with a 24" 1080p display, bought almost 15 years ago; for my work I don't need anything extra for now. Great IPS panel (my monitor is by HP, but the inside LG panel was used at the time in Eizo monitors), still calibrates with a DeltaE inferior to 0,3, that's a workhorse for color correction. Will change it only when it will die, or if I'll start recording in 4k, which is not needed at the moment by my customers.
I would suggest adopting turning your chair and keeping you neck neutral when having to look off to the edges. That might help alleviate the neck fatigue.
For the preview size, if u drag n downsize it and then go up and down on the file list with the arrow keys then the size doesnt go back to big size
Like I said in the last post, you should have looked at the OLED Monitors from Asus and LG, not their TV's. Like the LG 48GQ900-B and the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG48UQ. They address many of the issues you had with the TV. I was speaking from experience, because I used a C1, then a C2 as monitors. Autowake, dimming, etc, are not longer a problem-even though the C3 panels no longer have this issue.
But on my desktop, I run Windows on two 48" Asus ROG PG48UQ's, and one 32" Cintiq. Don't have any issues with multimonitor use or setup at 2.5ft from usage position.
But I guess you're issue is also concerned about price, and that price was more important than picture quality for you? Which you didn't mention in the first video. If that's the case, then yes, a large screen OLED is not for you in comparison to other options, because no large format OLED are as inexpensive. But you should have also considered splitting the difference with two 4k 42" OLED monitors instead of one 55" OLED, would probably have made your setup more useful.
I am in your boat. I had a thripple monitor setup with a 4k on top running surveillance software. I also had a multiple 4k / 1080p setup at the office. Went to a different job and planned on picking up the super wide samsung monotor for about 10% gaming while not working. I have looked and the 8k TVs are in the same price range. I am thinking I might as well do that.
Hey Lee! - thanks for putting this video together. I am currently researching how to set up my 4 x monitor set up and was wondering if you ever consider the 1 over 3 configuration? I currently run 3 x 4k 27" horizontally and thought I would go the 1 of 3 when I get my M3 MAX but based on the ergenomics of it all, I am thinkging 2 over 2 might be optimal like what you have here? Considering you were talking about ergernomics, was interested if you had any experince or did any research on the 1 over 3 config?
Have you considered using 2 ultrawide monitors instead of 4 standard monitors? You can also get curved ultrawides so could be a good option
was also going to recommend that. There are some 4k ultrawides, i think they are often called "5k2k" monitors, so 5120x2160 (4k resolution in height but 21:9 aspect ratio),
for example the LG 34WK95U-W
Don’t get the LG one.. uncommon resolution issues, so so HDR.., but Image retention/burn in for some reason is a thing for this.. 😂 the LG 5k2k has been a nightmare for me.

The best solution is to use a VR headset like the comming Vision Pro to scale your screems however you want while you work on a confortable sofa.
I worked with mac for 10+ years and i find two 27-inch optimal. On each you can have as many desktops you like. Use Mission control and App windows to switch. Use one instance of Finder that are set to "All desktops".
Also have you tried a simple quad viewer box that combines 4 input signals into one 4k 60p signal. That would solve our menu bar problem

Is there a device that multiplexes one displayport input looking to the computer as if it's 4 monitors, but outputing 1 signal? Because the device you're talking about sounds like would need some other device to make it all work.
I think for windows users that menu bar problem and also the windows management issue is not a problem.
Main issues would be the pixel density and the flatness of TV which requires more head movement at 55inch
I have been using 4 monitors on my system for about 8 years now. The setup has always been 3 monitors laterally, with a big 32 in the center, curved, with 2 27" curved left and right. My top (4th) monitor is actually a teleprompter, so I can do video conferences and have eye contact with my customers. Oh wait, it isn't 4 monitors, it is 5. I have the laptop sitting under my right hand monitor, and it is also an extended monitor. So 5, yeah. Don't do this without a cooling pad!
There IS another 4 monitor doc, which is made by WavLink. Super fantastic product. It has support for 4 HDMI or DP monitors. I also have this on a KVM with two systems. My first system is a gaming system, PC, about 5 years old now, but still rocks any game I play.
The second one is my MacBook Pro 2019. It has an i7 with 32 Gig of Ram. I have the 4 monitor Doc for this, and it runs on a single Thunderbolt 4 cable to run all 4 monitors. I think I will do a video and link it here later, just so you can see this setup.
the other thing on my setup, it is built with all used parts, so none of my monitors cost more than $250. The 32" center is a ROG monitor, while the two left and right monitors are curved MSI monitors. The curve arc is very nice because it puts the edges of the monitors within your peripheral vision if you are looking at the center monitor.

There are now 49" 32:9 OLED monitors in 2X4K instead of 2XQHD!! Just mount 2 of those above each other. They are also curved, so always perfectly tilted towards your eyes..
But this will be EXPENSIVE..
mounting 2 of those on top of each other is easier said than done.
tv is great for a studio setup with wireless keyboard so you see it from a far while tethered to a camera
The OLED burn-in is still a big issue since LEDs dim over time as they wear out. There is no way to fix that issue with the panels. Since they also use a TFT layer to essentially act as switches for the OLED subpixels, the TFT layer can have its own set of retention, and the pixel refresh will remove that, but uneven wear of the OLED layer cannot be fixed or corrected with the pixel refresh. This is simply the nature of this technology.
It's actually not a big issue at all. I have over 10,000 hours on a 2017 LG OLED55B7A used as a PC gaming monitor with _zero_ image retention.
I started to get image retention right away, and realized that I needed to make changes. I turned the OLED Light (brightness) down to '10', hid the Taskbar, removed everything from the desktop, and set the desktop background to black or 50% grey.
After that, the retention went away and never came back. If I play the same game for several weeks straight (WoW, Skyrim, etc.) the HUD might be slightly retained, but it goes away when you stop playing that game.
OLED is for people who understand what it is, why they need it, and are willing to observe proper operating procedures. Everyone else should probably go with another technology for now.
I think a 42" inch is best with 1 or 2 extra monitors
tvs do have a auto wake feature, its called CES, and that can power on the display.
If You have 24mpx camera 4k monitor is a little too small for 50% zoom in editing softwares because editing panels. Try to find 5k - 6k or something similar.
maybe try a curved TV? I think that my 34 inch curved utralwide is enough, but I would love to try a 42 inch C3, mostly because gaming would feel better.
BTW, is it really that hard to make it auto-wake up? I have my TV setup so that I turn on the Playstation and then it turns on the TV automatically, which turns on the sound system. Maybe it's a docking station configuration issue?

I used to have a 40" TV, that was not workable for me, I have gone to a 32" and use two of them. One is the Samsung M8, I use the TV function on that too. My gaming rig has its own 144Hz monitor.

I've just taken the plunge with a 65" Samsung QN800B 8K TV, moved my desk back and am now loving being at 4ft from the screen with a vast amount more screen real estate than my old 3x 28" 4K set up. Resolution is epic and I'm going to create a few videos on it to show what I've been doing to maximise my working habits and keeping my regular stuff at the lower 2/3 of the screen to avoid neck pain. It's fricking awesome for gaming as well though with 4K 120Hz and 8K 60Hz!
It was also on a crazy Black Friday deal so only £1200 inc VAT with a 3 year warranty in the UK

Do you recommend a 65 LG G4 Oled for a distance close to 4 feet and a bit (130cm).
Or is it way too big for being so close? Downside?
@@bricaaron3978 It's Neo QLED with a shedload of local dimming zones, so I would suggest you take a look at one some time as they are insane for colour accuracy, brightness, blacks and will never burn in.
I am waiting for the 4k oled monitors thay come next year, and going to have an LCD IPS for productivity and the OLED for games

I went 2 ultra wide curved monitors stacker vertically. Tried, huge monitor… hated it. 4 screens drove me nuts. 2 ultra wide stacked is perfect. You can wide screen applications that benefit from it, which is a lot for me.
As someone who use to use 3 monitors best thing i did was "downgrade" to 1 ultrawide monitor with a side monitor that i rarely use.
42 inch lg C3 is just perfect for me. Oddly enough I get no neck strain than when using a 27 in. I'm using a 70cm deep desk.
When you use Windows, it already has separate menu bar. You can use it entirely as you got 4 or more screen.
I always use it 5 windows at the time. 1 Words, 2 browser windows, 1 cctv monitor, 1 files explorer.
That ""always full screen" is not a problem in my PC, I use K-Lite player and it can be set to retain previous position/size.
So, after rocking my 49 and 43 inches 4k as a monitor for years, I can't go back to monitor anymore.
55 probably too much, 43 is a bit small, I think 49, 50 is the perfect size for monitor.

Just a thought how about making the font bigger did you try that.
I used Many setups for work as a Linux engineer (i look a lot at command line terminal) i found 3 x 27 inch 1440p monitors to work the best for me and as far as at home setup I prefer my 42 4k oled monitor and 27 inch 1440p monitor on a side. I think its about efficiency I do not want to deal with any window management software to split things up best to have 3 different hardware level monitors and going beyond 3 you start to lose track of what is where.
Try dual 49" ultrawides. I used to have your setup but the 49" ultrawides are incredible.

What about a 5k2k Ultrawide 40" on the bottom and either (2) 4k Monitors or (1) Apple 5k monitor on top? The LG and Dell 40" ultrawides give you great resolution and no bezel in the middle...

Did U considered - Samsung Odyssey Ark 55 inch Mk2 - yes its only 4K but curved and 16:9 ratio - still propably would tick more boxes then ur curent setups.
I use 4 monitors (Windows), but not all the same size. I have one main 30" as the central main screen, then 3 smaller monitors on the sides and it works extremely well IMO. All screens tilted perfectly toward where I sit and very convenient to be able to maximize a window on one of the screens. I've considered using an 8K TV instead, but just cant see it working equally well.
I've done that as well along in the past. I have two 49" ultrawides now. Never going back to the quad setup. You will realize how amazing it is to have no bezels in the middle horizontal.
The trouble with different sizes is when you move windows between them the don't stay the same size... and then you may be tempted to have different ones at different zoom levels which has more problems
Agree that different zoom levels and actually also different aspect ratios of the screens can be annoying but hardly a problem.
8k plus a software that can take a big screen as 4 independent monitors I think is the way to go with a 48 inch screen and maybe curved, but I guess this is a dream still for at least next 5-10 years :(
It would have to be curved on all four sides for maximum comfort.

in Germany the cheapest 55 " 8k TV is a Samsung for 1100 Euros today (2022 Modell).
Maybe Try Dual Ultrawides...
But for 8k you would need the new 57" Neo G9 which are currently $2000 each so....
Agree, tv 40-ish inches is great. But get an Oled... dont get convinced on the QLED or Neo QLed... oled is so much better

How does the color space on HDR compare to an Adobe RGB monitor? I’m thinking about upgrading to an Adobe RGB capable monitor but they are expensive and I’m not really sure if I will get better prints. Seems like a lot of money to experiment with. Any advice is much appreciated.
