frank going "meat can be cured but addictions can't" as he slowly unravels reeeaaally hit hard. one of the best movies of all time for sure with unexpected depth.
400 likes and no comments? Let me fix that
@@DominickAymond thanks for letting me know my comment got some likes lol
@@HippyAlex123 hey it got some more
I don’t know why the bit where Babish keeps flicking away the end of his cigarette in every shot absolutely kills me, but it does.
hahaha i didn't even see that. amazing detail.
because it's hilarious that's why!
You're not wrong. That is absolutely hilarious!!!!
It is indicative of Lesley Nealson or Lloyd Bridges slapstick comedy. ( I believe it unique and not reused)
It got me too! The amazingly hilarious poke at early tv detective dramas. Honestly, the BCU has better movies than actual movie writers at this point!
Especially the first one, approximately 0.5 seconds after lighting it :'D
The movie segment went so hard. The genuinely great acting. The solid set design and the attention to detail on the ketchup/mustard body. The cinema quality editing. Babish just keeps topping themselves!
Yes, but why INRI above a crucified-looking body? What is the killer trying to tell us? I think Insomniacs Never Remain Indebted.
@@marcpeterson1092 My first thought was "I Need Relish Ingredients"
The best one yet!
I agree, but can only see your use of toppings as a hot dog pun
My parents thought this movie was too scary for me to watch as a kid, so the first thing I did when I turned 18 was watch it with all of my friends in our basement. Absolutely life changing film and the reason I'm a Forensics major today!
The casting of Officer Frank Furter was phenomenal in this film
Truly a Oscar nomination worthy performance!
Ayyyy
You really FELT Frank's tragic backstory
Honestly, I don't think he looked enough like his comic counterpart. In the comics he had hair.
I dunno, I don’t think it was the same without his love interest, Buns… still, I might be game to give the performance a Meyer instead of an Oscar.
I just love how Frank keeps throwing away half smoked cigarettes & joints without ever lighting one, it's a neat visual reference to the fact that he's actually a wizard and not just a detective
He isnt throwing it away, simply throwing it to himself in the next scene..
Half is being quite generous.
I've seen some theories on Reddit that the whole show takes place in the Dresdenverse.
@@insertphrasehere15 i can get behind that. i loved that series as a kid
@@insertphrasehere15yeah but we're not talking about the series, we're talking about the movies, the series is just some sucky revamp like everything else these days 🙄
It's incredible how all of the movies Babish has covered lately have had characters that look just like him!
Honestly, he does two movies in a row with a bald, bearded protagonist and this is what happens? They don't all look the same.
@@stevenbobbybills *three
Babish's line delivery is way better than it has any right to be 😂
Don’t forget about flicking the cigarette away at the end of every shot.
Not gonna lie, he kind of sounds like batman
I love these fake show/movie skits at the beginning, can't wait to see more of them!
I kind of don’t want the strike to end because these are so entertaining!
@@daniellavaladez7820 i know you don't mean anything malicious by that but that's insensitive to say to the all the workers affected by the strike :(
Fake?
@@ash899 Oh don’t get me wrong, I 100% support the strike and I want workers to get the wages they deserve.
@@ash899It's not that deep
Fun movie trivia: Did you know that Hot Dog Detective actually got its start as a rejected spinoff pilot for Criminal Minds? You can still see hints of it in the final script. The Criminal Minds producers, however, balked at the idea of a weekly procedural involving food-themed serial killers; in particular, they worried what impact it might have on their ability to sell advertisement slots.
A rumor persists that the "skeleton in a giant chocolate bar" episode of Bones had a similar start and might even have originally been a planned episode of the Hot Dog Detective series, but instead it was workshopped to fit the existing show instead; these rumors, however, have never been officially confirmed (or denied!)
always appreciate someone who remembers that episode, it was so weird
ROTFLMAO
This is quality, fun stuff. Thank you.
Loved that episode. Also Bones and zooey deschanel are sisters with two opposite type shows lol
This movie was a comfort during my deployment in the Finno-Korean Hyperwar. Thank you BCU, for honoring this memory.
These are without a doubt your best works you've ever done on this channel. The writing and cinematography on the short 'movie' clips is wonderful, and the fact that you speak about them as if we all have obviously seen these movies. Plus the fact that you give little details about how the movies actually go throughout the cooking is just genius.
I love these imaginary film foods and the accompanying skits. I also love how Babish will say things like “because the killer worked a day job at a diner” as if that’s common knowledge to the audience in regards to a fake film he created.
I love his commitment to the bit. He talks about these movies like we've seen them all.
You haven't? Hot Dog Detective is a classic
@@PersonOfRandomnesss By the time I was old enough to get movies, the VHS was out of print.
@@PersonOfRandomnesss Operation Bratwurst was kinda weak in my opinion but Crown of Condiments was an outstanding way to end the trilogy.
I’m just here for the skit
@@deJanglez But nothing beats the original, Bun on the Run
I always loved the hotdog killers signature line "lets sauasage!"
Bimbish cant hide from Mr. Sausage forever
I remember watching the edited down version on TBS as a kid. When I saw it for the first time, in college, on DVD, I was blown away by all the viscera left out of the TV version. What a farce.
I loved how every time Babs appeared on screen during the “movie” he had a new cigarette
Always flicking it after that last drag. Loved that bit
I thought I was imagining it
Legitimately reminded me of Wilford Warfstache short film by Markiplier
Technically speaking, the recipe in this video is more accurate to its source material than anything else he's made
He's done this before.
The “show accurate” version of the cookie nachos was the same plate he later used in its fake scene. Can’t get any more accurate than literally the same plate of food
Hey Babish! Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for finally covering my favorite movie of all time, ¨Hot Dog Detective: Crown of Condiments¨. This movie was most definitely a classic for me in my adolescant years, and I have very fond memories of watching this with my wife on our recent honeymoon. So thank you so much for bringing a big part of my childhood to life!
I feel like Hot Dog Detective peaked after the first movie. After it turns out (spoiler) Frank was the killer, and then an actual copycat started showing up, they really started to borrow too heavily from Silence Of The Lambs.
Regardless, excellent throwback to this classic. If for some reason someone hadn't seen it, they should rent a copy ASAP.
A childhood favorite of mine! Thank you for turning one of my favorite movie-foods growing up into reality Babish! 🥰
I loved it too, but you have to admit, the reveal of the killer was a bit predictable
It's a shame that we never saw the actor who played Frank much after that (I think his name is Anthony something). I guess his career didn't go anywhere.
@@Nick_C1997 yeah, but it was definitely a how-dunnit and not a who-dunnit, like in ace attorney. we definitely know who the killer is, it's just up to frank to prove it for the town to have closure. that's definitely one bit of detail many skipped over when watching it because everyone seems to just say frank is just one cold dude who barges in and do stuff without saying much, but in reality he has a big heart to let everyone rest easy at night by confirming the killers were caught and brought to the deserved justice using the delicious truth
Someone let you watch Hot Dog Detective as a kid?!
Childhood? Man I’m old. I remember seeing this with my buddies in college.
The sequel to this masterpiece "Ice Cream Investigator: Frozen Fear" was also fantastic and I hope Babish does a recipe from that
it was amazing, but it wasn't as chilling as the first.
I still prefer the original tho
The plot twists the sequel has are a bit predictable and boring imo. The Creamy Reaper was cold, smart and preceptive. It made him feel like an actual threat to the police, unlike the sequel's antagonist.
I lowkey hope he does the strawberry blood pops! I always wondering how the killer managed to cover up that irony taste with just strawberries
The whole team has proper acting chops!!! That intro was phenomenal.
Love all of the nuances and it's shot beautifully. Brilliant.
Hot Dog Detective is such an underrated franchise. I’m glad it’s finally getting the love it deserves. 😤
Such a classic line of 6 masterpiece movies
Then a not bad, but pretty eh show.
The bit where the detective is always flicking away the last stub of a cigarette. You think it's just a funny visual gag, but the way he uses it at the end of the movie to win was brilliant.
Using it to light the gasoline trail in the Mustard Factory explosion was genius.
I absolutely loved Crown of Condiments. Definitely one of the best installments of the Hot Dog Detective saga. The casting especially was on point. The babish crew are perfect in their roles and ordinarysausage is extremely convincing as the serial killer.
THAT'S WHO THE ACTOR WAS? I didn't read the credits, but the makeup artists sure are talented if I couldn't tell!
Or in this case, is it a cereal killer?
Spoiler Alert, bro!!!
These videos really add whole another layer of meaning to the "Babish Culınary Universe"
I think its very endearing that youre venturing into your own type of movie/skit production due to the strikes. It gives you giys your own due justice in the quality of videos you guys produce and really gives you guys something completely ORIGINAL for your branding, also while supporting people that need it. Keep it up! :)
Hear hear!!!
I'm still disappointed the killer didn't put relish between the outer spiral dog layer like was shown in the Sausage Cave blueprints. I know it doesn't make sense in the story, but it would've been cool.
They explained this on the audio commentary. They tried to add the relish to the prop, but it just looked wrong on camera. Something about how the relish made the fake meat look really fake. It's a shame, but sometimes sacrifices must be made.
@@ChicaneryBear That's interesting! I guess the plot point where they set up cameras at the relish warehouse had to be made up because of that issue.
I couldn't get the dvd over here so I never heard the audio commentary. Is it true that they had an alternate ending planned where the sauce doesn't go bad?
Fun Fact: For Accuracy, Vince Gilligan actually suffocated a Production Assistant with a Hotdog! This show was truly ahead of it‘s time!
Bravo Vince!
Vravo Bince!
This was a MASTERPIECE. Kendall belongs on SVU. Sawyer wins best supporting actor. What an episode.
Bringing a new meaning to "First as tragedy, then as farce"
This movie's plot twist was insane! The final fight scene in the back of a diner was a cinematic masterpiece
Controversially I didn't like it. I mean, there was no set up or anything! For me, the original HDD film will always remain the best, it's a classic for a reason.
Great, now I want a whole show with Babish going through a pack per scene and being the coolest detective ever. Well done guys!
I didn't know he smoked.
@@marcpeterson1092it may be just for the skit, or it could be some of that wacky tobacky 😉
I love to see that y'all are making the best out of a bad situation, I really hope the strikes ends well for the workers but also it's great to be able to see y'all stretch those writing and acting muscles. I'd love to see the occasional episode like this in the future.
The creative team needs a raise cause these episodes are genius. I would be happy to get more episodes like this in the future well after the strike ends.
These guys can’t stop making bangers!
Get it? “Bangers?” Like sausage?
You (English) British or smth?
No mash though
The team are genuinely fantastic actors too. Absolutely brilliant guys! Seeing you all have fun on screen is amazing.
Fully agree. Charisma and engaging energy coming out of every orifice
This is making your content feel like the old times again, and I'm here for it. Great stuff!
Full marks for standing with the actors and writers in solidarity! Great work.
I love that he's doing all of my classic childhood movies, my dad took me to see this as a kid before he went to jail! I hope Babish does Triple Cilantro Madness from "Help! My Mailman Stole My Heart!" next
Is that the sequel to The Postman Always Rings Twice?
Even after the strikes are over, this series should continue!
We're implying that the big wigs of Hollywood is going to play ball (they probably won't) anytime soon. Is it that hard to pay people a decent wage to live on?
The trilogy was definitely something, and the reveal in CoC was definitely a surprise that was executed masterfully. One of my favorites of all time, and I am glad as ever that Babish covered the one thing that made me love the cleverness that was Hot Dog Detective's final movie.
Lets just take a moment to appreciate the effort the actors are going through just so babish can have an excuse to make all of his favorite foods.
The cinematography goes so hard its not even funny anymore just incredibly impressive
Not to mention Andrew's acting! Dude could legitimately change careers if he wanted.
Can't wait to see Babish get abstract with the 90s arthouse classic "The Sun Melts My Ice Cream"
The twist ending of Frank going insane from the curse and becoming a copycat of The Griddler is an excellent setup for a sequel. I hope the next film goes deeper into the subplot of Officer Coney's search for his missing brother.
The constantly flicking away of the cigarettes and then having a new, lit one each shot is genius.
I think these new openings are a fantastic new direction for the channel. I wasn't sure what post-10M Babish looked like but I think this opens a lot of opportunities and and creative additions.
Kendall as a CSI is perfect! Could so see this as her alternative career path 😎
Kendall sure was hot in this.
@@sumduma55 ew,,, way to be weird
@parker8758 how Was that weird?
"Spiral Cut Hot Dogs" is the best Parry Grip song.
5:54 "to the mixer while it runs". Cue to mixer vibrating on the table and actually running away
I wish that this Triple HotDog mastermind was more of... Ordinary Sausage mastermind~
Yeah, i was thinking the whole time watching this "Way to flex on a certain Peter Griffin sounding Sausage"
This movie is what happens when Mr. Sausage finally loses it.
Make Quadruple Deluxe Hot Dog from your future sequel: Hot Dog Detective 2: Revenge of the Bratwurst
Don't forget Hot Dog Detective 3: Wurst of the Wurst!
4: Links of crime
I only heard of the Korean remake of this thing, which they somehow called Spoiled Bratwurst.
I'm 100% here for the homemade films, loving it. It feels like you're really enjoying all of this again.
The first part went so hard I seriously thought this was some prime time drama you'd expect to see on HBO before realizing that surly yet attractively gruff detective was actually Babish himself.
I know a lot of people bash on the sequel for taking the campiness too far, and moving away from the original theme, but personally I find that's the charm of the movie! Underrated gem, really.
The cigarette flicks 🤣
I seriously enjoyed the movie scene, almost too much considering I'm just here for the food (and humor), love that it involved a group of you guys this time! It almost felt like spotting famous faces in a movie, "Oh look who's also in this!".
Quick safety note: Never use gloves with rotating tools. They might make you feel safe, but the tool can grab the glove and pull your hand into the mechanism, with you being unable to escape.
Honestly that movie especially the casting for Frank was incredible! Definitely a modern citizen Kane.
It's only a matter of time before Babish finally caves to his inner crazed-filmmaker and actually writes and directs his own film. With lots of food in it.
I actually love these fake movie clips almost more than the usual movie foods videos! Kendall is amazing in this! 😁
Absolute masterpiece. I need a Babish movie now where cooking beats a mobster and saves the neighborhood from the tyranny of evil.
The level of effort and creativity that you are putting into these movies and recipes is amazing. You guys are awesome!
Incredible performance by Andrew and the BCU team. Emmys all around!
I love the flicking the cigarette then taking a drag off the same cigarette absolutely beautiful.
I really hope y'all add these videos to your rotation even after the strike is over! I'm loving them! Y'all are fire!! ❤❤
I’m actually invested in these films
Part of me hopes you continue this series even after the strike, yall look like you're having too much fun.
I don't care much for the skits but I really like how they just come up with a broad idea for a dish that's slightly flawed and then make it right
Saw this as a double feature with Goncharov at the drive-in near my place. Mind blowing as a combo!
I feel like this would of been the episode to have ordinary sausage come on the show
This read as more of a taunt. Like… “Come on. Just TRY to make sausage out of me.”
@@UrbanPanic not intended but I think it might work better that way lol
Look what they need to mimic a fraction of Mr. Sausage's power.
I love that the BCU team has the integrity to support what they believe in so openly. I honestly wasn't sure if this would be a one or two episode thing but knowing it's not just a fad or a cheap way to feign concern for SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild warms my heart.
And as an aside I just know the video editor nerd inside of Andrew is giddy to make these cute little movie snippets
I think I like these better than the ones based on actual shows and movies.
Babish pulling off a sorta Rust Cohle vibe is exactly what I’ve always wanted. Time’s like a flat circle, man.
I love the dedication of the members of the BCU and their union support!
I just want to let you know I really appreciate your dedication to supporting the ongoing SAGAFTRA and WGA strikes. It’s so awesome to see content creators in such strong solidarity!
Plus these films you’re making in their place are AMAZING.
I'm worried I won't want to go back to normal after the strike is over...maybe it can be a recurring smaller series...
The large majority of normal everyday citizens couldn’t care less about the dumb idiots on strikes. Those “writers” are talentless and have ruined many great shows and franchises. Better off replacing those pompous fools with AI.
And that’s not even getting into what those “writers” think of everybody else beneath them. Zero sympathy.
I really love it's the ins to the previous skits. it was the blue guy who brainwashed the British guy and made him a detective. The blue guy had gotten a bed job to not be suspicious at a diner and boom he hit his next victim. The same guy over and over just for the fun of it. First he made the blue guy a sandwich then the blue guy made him the desert nachos which had a sleeping juice on it which allowed the blue guy to brainwash him and turn him into a detective just to mess with his mind! Awesome plot twist. When i realizes that the meat from his victims was the family from the first skit i peed my pants
One of the greatest movies ever made. Raw, enticing and absolutely delectable. It’s a feature you wish to see again and again. A beautiful summer hit.🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love this new direction. Gives Babish more reasons to be on screen more again
Ask Alvin if his next Arcade with Alvin video be any Sandwich recipe from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet or any dish from Splatoon
Most of the food in Splatoon are just pictures, but should be interesting.
Idea for a future episode, Foods from Bluey. Imagine Babish doing the Duck Cake, the Pavlova, or the Pork Crackling Roast and Prawns from "Christmas Swim" . Or maybe all three in one glorious episode? Bluey with Babish , anyone?
Did anyone else notice the SLUR written in ketchup and mustard?!?
creative.
I love how with each of these ‘fake’ films, there’s still almost implied room for more recipes to show up from each one of them.
That and the production quality in the skits is consistently improving and it never fails to get a laugh out of me
@OrdinarySausage This would have been the perfect opportunity to collaborate with Ordinary Sausage. He could have been the villain!
We need an Ordinary Sausage + Babish colab ASAP
Boombash is too afraid!
I seriously need whole movies out of all these haha yall really are amazing! Thanks for all the hard work
Wow the intro to this was pure genius! he acting, the costumes, the scene, the edgy music and characters. I forgot I was watching a cooking vid and got completed drawn in. Well done to the whole team :)
This movie terrified me as a kid but I always wanted to try the hot dogs, without human of course 😂 Thank you for another amazing video
After the Writer Strike is over; please make Adorabat's Egg Omelette from Mao Mao Heroes of Pure Heart episode, "Head Chef"
Andrew thank you so much for supporting the writers and for your awesome content
In Andrew's first scene, when he flicks the cigarette away to punctuate his line, then in the next scene, he immediately has a half smoked cigarette in the other hand? Idk why, but that's the funniest thing I've seen in forever. Great job to everyone. This is incredible.
Kind of want to see Hot Dog Detective as a real thing. Maybe a cameo by Ordinary Sausage as the fed-up police chief.
“You’re too reckless, Furter! You’re off the casing!”
he is the killer, he can't resist making human meat sausage
...Until noticing this comment I thought it was a real movie. One with a ridiculous premise, but there is legitimately a monster movie where the starring role is filled by a sentient tire, so I rule out nothing.
I am living for the Babish cinematic universe
Cuisinematic?
Okay I unironically want a 20-30m short film about this concept
Bruh was hitting that cig and flicking it every frame this is hysterical. The BCU lives on!
Flicking 40 cigarettes because you have to look cool at every cut away made me giggle.
My gods, these are brilliant. They may, in fact, be the best episodes ever.
Flicking a cig every end of your lines was absolutely the best thing
I will never get tired of Babish's *"tought ball"* when he makes bread
