You are so funny Julie, I was laughing so hard when you told about your patient dress 😂 Good job you gave it a second chance, the dress looks great on you!
Julie your Zadie is really nice, the fabric suits you perfectly. You have chosen some lovely swimsuit fabrics and I am looking forward to seeing what you make. Alison of Sew like Dotty and Rachel of Stitched have made beautiful swimsuits in the one shoulder ,deep frill style.Your theatre gown made me smile but well done you for succeeding with a fabric which was softer and draped well. Never apologise for talking at length,I enjoy your videos so much.🥰
Thank you so much. It was Alison that set me off on this journey with her gorgeous version of the Lucca swimming costume. I haven’t seen Rachel’s, I shall go take a look. Thanks 👍🤩😍
Thank you for checking out my channel Violet & Caitlin, I think we have to make light of the failures or we’d never see again 🤪🤣All good learning in the locker 👍
I’m laughing at your humor! Even if it looks like a hospital gown, you made light of it! I love that pattern but I’m not a dress person. Your garments, including your Zadie, are beautiful. I also avoid the cooler blue hues. I’m loving warm navy tones and teals.
Oh I think you recovered well!! You made me laugh though especially when you said you would pop a thermometer in your mouth!!! I knew what you meant about the first fabric (it isn’t that bad!) and am glad you are not going to waste it. I have the Puff and Pencil tie side pattern with a blue linen fabric embroidered with large white flowers lined up - let’s pray it works. Love the Zadie you are wearing- I really must give that pattern a go - must be the only person who hasn’t made one! Happy Sewing Julie 😊. Lynne
I think the tie dress, is one of those really simple dresses, but the fabric choices will be crucial as to how it turns out. Great video, thank you for taking the time to share.
what a great post. You probably saved me from wasting several yards of fabric. I too, want to make the tie dress. I was going to choose a corn flower blue with little white flowers. I have a feeling it would’ve looked just like yours. Lol I’m going with a light blue chambray instead, and I’m going to make one in a big bold print.
I feel like I need to adapt it and make something I can wear anywhere. I do have some scraps left, I might separate bodice and put an elastic waist band on the skirt, that would look nice with a little navy cami top.
Hi Julie - have you considered cutting out an applique patch from some fabric say lemons or something like that. you could drape it over the shoulder on the front and place one on the bottom of the skirt as well. That will break up the pattern
Thank you 😍🫶🏻 I do have the Avenir, I’ve not made it up yet but it is on my radar- sometimes the pattern & fabric pairing are instant and other times it takes a while to get there…. The Avenir remains at single status at the moment 🤣🤣
I’ve just made a dress in blue gingham seersucker and I look like I’m wearing a primary school uniform! And I did think it might but I went ahead anyway. It’s a lovely dress but I can’t stop thinking school dress! Ha ha, what are we like?
my tie dress pattern is being printed at the moment so I'll have to make sure I choose the right fabric. Have you thought about dyeing it an non NHS colour ?
Ah yes, choose your fabric carefully. I don’t think it’s just 5he colour, that’s the thing. I think it’s the weight and drape of the fabric too. I may separate skirt and bodice and put an elastic aged waistband on the skirt. That would be lovely with a little cami top
Hope the surgery went well and you get well soon 😂😂 I think that a those rows and rows of stitching with the elastic thread in the bobbin (you know what I mean 😂) in the waist would change it from a surgery gown to a nice dress
Oh Julie, that has made me laugh so much! 🤣 So sorry you're not happy with the results, I think it looks lovely but Ive been there with it not being quite what I envisaged!! Love the second one, it looks great on you! love an easy sew too. Why don't you dye the first one? xx
Thanks Sarah, I did think about dying the fabric but I think the issue is a combination of colour , fabric weight and drape. I love the second version and think I’m going to get the seam ripper out and take the skirt off and add an elastic encased waistband, I would wear that with a little navy cami top. I have some spare fabric so could add length to the top and wear it with shorts or something 🤷♀️All salvageable 🤭🤩
I’d say just go with your body measurements, there’s a lot of ease in the finished garment that gets cinched in with the ties. I love how the design gives you so many ways to use the ties and I’d definitely recommend giving it a go 😎🤩
Hi Julie. New to yor sight. Have you thought about doing an infinity scarf to give your dress a pop of color. It would help break up the all one color.
Hi Julie, such a shame about your patient dress (you are so funny 🤣🤣), I’m pleased I watched your vlog as I’ll be careful about the fabric choice. I have a query about the amount of fabric that you need on the pattern, does the amount stated include the lining fabric for the top or do you need extra for that? Thank you ❤❤
The lining is included in the fabric required. The skirt prices are quite wide so you may need a bit more if you have narrow fabric width or want to pattern match your seams. I hope it goes well 💕😍
Love your fabrics Julie. The second version of the tie dress is really nice and looks great on you. I have been looking for quick dry swim short fabric and like the one you bought from fabric godmother, but can’t find it online. How did you find it? ❤
The quick dry fabric was on their website during the sale a couple of weeks ago. If it’s not there now it would have sold out. It’s a Shame you missed it ☹️it’s a lovely fabric

Fabric choice makes such a difference to how our me mades look and feel, but thanks for the smiles.
How right you are. 😇😜🥰
Lots of lovely fabric Julie, can’t wait to see that butterfly swim fabric made up. Thanks for sharing 💙🧶🌈🍓
Thank you Jenny. The butterfly fabric is so gorgeous. It’s sewing up nicely 👌🤩
Try belting your hospital gown with a wide sash in a bright colour. Maybe like a Japanese obi.
I did try a wide brown leather belt with a chunky buckle and it looked naff but a bright sash is worth a try… Thank you Jan 👌😍
Ha ha, we had to laugh when you were talking about your tie dress and your gall stone operation 🤣Your Zadie is lovely, such a gorgeous fabric. Xx

A few people have mentioned the Puff & Pencil side tie pattern, your fabric choice sounds lovely! I hope it goes to plan 🫶🏻😍

You are so right Debra, some dresses will take any fabric, the tie dress requires a bit more thought but so worth pursuing 🥰😎

Oooh yes, a big bold print would look fabulous 🥰🤩 happy sewing 💕
One of those garments to lounge around at home and sew in xxx

I’ve had some great suggestions ,this an another great idea! Thank you so much, 👍😍😎
Your Zadie looks lovely. Looking forward to seeing all your swimwear made up. Have you tried the Avenir jumpsuit, that’s another lovely pattern x

Great pattern look s lovely I'm sure you will make it work you had me giggling happy sewing 😊😊
Thank you, there’s a.ways something you can do with a stitch ripper and a bit of patience 🤣😍

Mary that made me laugh out loud 🤣🤣 what are we like indeed! 🤷♀️😮😂
ooh that butterfly fabric is beautiful!!!
It’s so pretty 🤩 and cut up to sew 🫣😜
😂😂 Bless you Julie xxx
😇🤣
Sew Like Dotty just did a video on swimwear. Is it not possible to dye the hospital gown - love your description 😂
Ah yes, it’s on my watch list. I’m looking forward to hearing Alison’s tips 💕

🤣🤣🤣 it was touch and go at one point, the bodice may require amputation, we will have to see how the recovery state goes 🤣🤣
