How lovely that your mother in law gave you her vintage button box. I have an extensive makes list, too. Off the top of my head, the Andes Jacket from Itch to Stith, the Saguaro set, Friday Pattern Company (trousers only), Crescendo jeans, Legato Jeans, and Largo Cargos, all from Love Notions, The Nicks Dress, Closet Core, Bondi Tee, Sinclair, McCalls blouse, forgotten the number but already cut out, a couple of strappy nighties, Love Notions Luna Loungewear set, a second Westliff dress, Friday Pattern Company, Anza jumpsuit, Itch to Stitch, a cami top, Butterick pattern forgotten number, the list goes on ...
I’m exhausted just reading your makes list 😍 that’s a sewing marathon 😎👊 some quick and easy makes in there which always helps. Also a couple I’ve not heard of so I’m going to take a look at those Love Notions patterns! Shanks for sharing and happy sewing 🥰😍
Ahh thank you 🤩 one off my subscribers mentioned how tricky it was to see in the round but I think that got cut out whilst editing out my waffle 🤭 Definitely easier to do pleats on the flat, especially when using fabric that shifts about 😎🥰
Another lovely vlog, your enthusiasm is really infectious 😊. I watched Sarah's vlog about the Tie Dress, I wasn't sure about getting it myself, but you convinced me, I've just purchased it 😂
Hi again Julie, your blouses look amazing, and your future makes are very inspiring I look forward to seeing them. I have a button box I've been adding to over the years of buttons I've cut off from various clothes I've either made or bought, it's nice to have those memories when I'm rummaging for buttons. Some are still from dresses I wore as a kid. Many are from dresses for my girls. How lovely that you are using your mother-in-law's. I do very much look forward to your vlogs have a great sewing bank holiday
Hi Julie, I've just made the New Look blouse with the sleeve ties, I sized down and it was still pretty loose, but ok. The sleeve ties do get in the way though! Lovely blouses, I especially like the Nephaline, looking forward to seeing the scooped neck version with ruffle. I usually get my haberdashery from Franklins in Colchester, it's a large store, plenty of fabric choice there too.
Your blouses are gorgeous Julie especially the Anthea blouse. That fabric is 🥰. I really fancy making the Tie dress - I saw Sarah’s vlog and it looks great and it’s quite different isn’t it? I’d love to see your version. I’ve no doubt it’ll look great on your! I’ve just got the Fringe dress pattern too. So much sewing ahead. Whoop whoop!! Have fun. 😀
Thank you so much 🫶🏻 I’ve made my first version of the tie dress, I haven’t hemmed it yet as I’m not sure if I want to take a bit of length off it… so much sewing ahead indeed! 😍🥳😎🧡
Hi Julie! I also fell in love with the tie dress and ordered it! Then I went to a sewing sewcial and there was a pattern very similar on the freebies table so I got that too! Loving your makes and can’t wait to see your version of the dress 😀 xx
Thank you Mandy. I made my first tie dress yesterday just needs hemming but I can’t decide if I want to shorten it or leave it…. It’s a nice change to make a dress with no zips no buttons holes, no gathering stitches, no puss or faff measuring plackets and binding… I really enjoyed making it. Looking forward to seeing yours too 😍🥰
Thank you Mandy. That was my 3rd Anthea too. The Nephaline has some similarities but has some very different elements & detailing, I’d recommend giving it a go 👍👌🥰
Wow! Your blouses are stunning 😍. That fabric is amazing. I've made both patterns and after seeing your blouses I want to make them again. I feel like our weather is about the same as yours at the moment. We are supposed to be heading to winter but we still are having some beautiful warm days however the breeze is chilly. I do love this time of year. I could look at your blouse all day. I'm going to go see if I'm following you on insta. I hope you have a lovely weekend ❤ 💗
Ah thank you so much 😊 Ido love having several blouses from the same pattern as they always look so different but it makes the patterns more affordable, less tracing to do and something familiar which does either speed up the process or give me confidence to hack. Thank you so much for your support 🙏😍
Lots of great makes there Julie! I have the Tokyo Nightlife fabric also - your thumbnail of the Anthea blouse drew me in - I’m always inspired by what others make with the same prints that I have. I had a hip replacement just over 6 weeks ago and I started a few projects before surgery that still haven’t been finished. They are a Jenna shirt and Jenna dress and the Fran pyjamas both by Closet Core patterns. I have managed to progress with them but I’ve had to put them aside to make way for faster projects - my nine year old desperately needs new winter clothes and the basics in my wardrobe for the cooler months have been lacking. So I’ve been making track pants and yoga style pants plus t shirts and the Marine top which is a pattern from the closet Core Crew. Surgery has caused me to change size so my jeans now no long fit so I’ve decided I have to make new Dawn jeans and a pair of Jude jeans aswell as a pair of jeans for my daughter whilst I’m at it - I like doing things in groups - that is meant to be for the weekend. Then because there is the school cross country on Friday, I need something red (her faction/ house colour) and so I’m thinking I’ll be getting the current Jenna dress and shirt made along with a red Jenna shirt up to sewing on the buttons when she’s at her dance class on Wednesday. That will leave Thursday and Friday to crack on with kid sewing and some lounge wear for myself. I’m feeling more with it and so I need to get sewing now that hubby has returned to work. I’m yet to go back - have to wait a bit.
I do hope you are recovering well from your op. Your projects and plans list is pretty extensive. I haven’t made the Dawn jeans but I do have the pattern & it’s on my list for autumn makes. I hope you get your essentials done so you can get back to your pre op sewing. Have a great week ❤️🥰
Your blouses are SO good! I love both patterns and as you know have made them both. Haven’t had chance to wear my Nephaline yet but can’t wait. I admire your productivity and use of the early hours. I too am up early but having moved house last year and brought my sewing room into the house cannot now sew at the crack of dawn for fear of waking hubby. I want the Sewing Therapy tie dress too but bought the Puff and Pencil one so struggling to justify the spend. Can’t wait to see yours. Off now to plough on with my extensive make list too😂😂😂. Happy Sewing Julie. 😊 Lynne
I totally get what you mean, the Puff & Pencil is a similar style. I think I’ll be wearing my Nephaline on my next lunch outing. Enjoy wearing yours when you find the right venue 🙏💕😍
Hi Julie, I love your blouses, you have so many great plans. I’m making an Indigo mini makes dress for my Granddaughter (she’s 2) at the moment, next will be the Pattern Emporium Be Mine blouse and I have also ordered the tie dress pattern after seeing Sarah’s vlog (it’s a beautiful dress). ❤❤
Thank you Janet 😍 those T&TB mini makes are just the cutest a! I’m sure your granddaughter will be delighted with her very own Indigo dress 🤩 oh yes, the Be Mine is a good choice! How gorgeous are Sarah’s Tie dresses! I was already interested in the Tie Dress but she hooked me right in with her tester versions. Can’t wait to get that finished ❤️🥰
@@Julie_sews_her_own_clothes Julie I haven't posted on Instagram for about a year as I have been unwell andj didn't take pictures but I am definitely hoping it's a nice day tomorrow so that I can post my Tie Dress toile. It is such a lovely sew. I'm just hoping I have made it long enough as I'd like to take it on holiday in two weeks time!❤
@libbykilpatrick1578 sorry to hear you’ve had to deal with ill health. Fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow then! I will be following the tie dress hashtag with interest 🧐👊👌
I enjoyed your vlog 😊 lovely makes..your blouses are beautiful...I was taken by the tie dress also on Sarah's vlog ...I am looking forward to see what you do with the pattern 😊 I was so tempted to purchase the pattern and I have a strong feeling that your make will push me over the edge and I will just need to buy it 😂🤣
Julie do you know of a pattern that can be used for woven and knit ..I recently bought the Naya t shirt by Tammy Handmade and thought I could use double gauze but I just realised it is only knit fabric I was sure I had seen a pattern similar that you could use knit or woven but for the life of me I can't remember what it was 🥴🥴
@@sewchilled22 I have used the Assembly Line high cuff sweater with woven then used knit ribbing for cuffs and hems. Is that the one you mean? I also think the LB pullover could be used with either
Hi Julie you are right it's the LB pullover ..I had ordered both patterns from the fold line at the same time ..I think I mixed myself up🥴🥴 I will get my size traced out now👍
Great inspiration on the blouse front! I have made several Remy Raglan tops, with all the different sleeves etc but feel ready (??!!🙄) to try a placket and maybe a simple collar....have the Peppermint Samford Set Top pattern at the ready and a remnant from our last destash market (Mt Gravatt, Brisbane). Wish me luck!! Thanks for your inspiration, hints and tricks. 🤩
Don’t let a placket scare you. It’s just folds and stitches. Go as slow as you need to. Use the side of your sewing foot to guide a strait line of stitches and you’ll be fine. I use a slightly longer stitch length which also makes it easier to stop unpick and start again. Same with collars, just take it slow. Happy sewing 😍👌
Julie, I have just bought the Ellie and Mac Ashley Hourglass Swimsuit pattern because I wanted ruching and even for me it is so easy. I had already purchased the Cottesloe, but haven't attempted it. I think the E+M will be the one I wear the most on holiday. I am also just finishing off my Tie Dress. Love your blouses X
Oh, I’ll have to check out the hourglass , isn’t it so satisfying to find that pattern that you know you will get so much wear from?! That Tie dress, I really can’t wait to see instagram light up with that dress! 😍❤️
@@Julie_sews_her_own_clothes Julie just finished my Tie dress.....and OMG I love it. I am already rummaging in my stash of fabrics I didn't want to use because they are too good. I'll get hubby to take a pic when he comes in from his cycle. Can't wait to see yours!!! ❤
Oh my word that blouse is gorgeous I’ve never thought to make that Anthea blouse I think the stick out. Sleeves put me off but I suppose it depends what fabric you use ? I’ve made the Zalia dress and that has interesting sleeves I think you’d like ,the v neck is too low for me so I’ve made the round neck this time ?
Thank you Eileen. I do gave an Anthea blouse made of a very soft viscose and the sleeve gathers just fall and drape from my shoulders but create a lovely shape. My new one is much fuller and holds its shape much more so quite poofy. I think I’d like to make the dress version next time. It’s great to get your money’s worth out of a pattern as they can work out very expensive to just make 1 garment from them. The Zaria is lovely, I can see why you chose that as all the sleeve drama is at the cuff rather than the shoulder. 👌😍
Just love that Anthea blouse. How do you find the set of the sleeve into the armhole? I had problems with it and had to do quite a bit of work to get it to fit properly. Yours looks beautiful on.
Thanks Jacqui, I find the sleeve fitting ok I sew the sleeve side seam then pull the gather stitches at the head of the sleeve.i pin the centre top of the sleeve to the shoulder seam and adjust the gathers to fit arm hole using lots of pins.

Hi Claire, going by the body measurements I’d be size 12, finished garment size is an additional 8” which is too much for me. I sized down to size 6 and I have enough ease to be comfortable.
