    If they make a more powerful version of this clamshell I'll buy it might have to skip for now

    I won't be surprised if Retroid were to release the plus variant of Pocket Flip with Dimensity 930 or 1080 chipset. Thus, I would rather wait for the better version.

      @elephantshelf3617 Год назад +1

      That’s the only thing I’m waiting on. But man, I love clamshell designs. I usually throw my devices in my backpack before commuting.
      That added protection of the screen and buttons is super appealing to me.
      Ive heard that the fan in the Flip is completely unnecessary for performance and I assume it’s there for an updated variant in the near future.

    I hope this sells well enough for them to make a + model; I love the design but I really want slightly better GameCube performance.

    I think the flip is better for D pad gaming and the 3+ is perfect games that use joy sticks (of course if you like the sliders then the flip is for you)

    I really hope they do another clamshell like this next year with slightly more powerful hardware. If it could play more GCN and PS2 games without big issues, more like the Steam Deck, I'd pick one up in an instant.

      @@ryecatcher25 Yeah, I don't mind having a long "one-time set-up" but I do agree, it's probably going to be 2-3 years before the chips I'd want would be at a price I'd be willing to pay for a "cheap, pocketable portable."

    • @jayjayhooksch1
      @jayjayhooksch1 Год назад

      @@ryecatcher25 no one is saying you can play most ps2 games but as far as GameCube goes, you can watch the reviews and see the games running fine at ~30fps, without these massive slowdowns you mention. Yes, you have to do some tweaking, but it's not 20 minutes per game as you suggest. It's more like 20 minutes one time in the global settings and then 2 minutes per game.
      I think the next generation of handhelds will be able to play GameCube without tweaks and ps2 similar to how GC runs on this generation, which is to say most of the library with a decent amount of tweaking.

    • @jayjayhooksch1
      @jayjayhooksch1 Год назад

      @@ryecatcher25 what do you define as full speed? 60 fps? Then yes, it's true, limited amount of the library runs at that speed. But more than half of the library runs at 30+, which is playable to most people and is close to what the original console ran at.
      Aside from the rp3+, nothing else delivers GC at these frames for this price, so yes, it's worth it to a lot of people. Especially people who are just buying into handhelds for the first time. If you want to wait 2-3 years for it to run at 60fps 95% of the library for GC and PS2 that's fine too. Most people don't have the patience to wait 3 years. Especially considering by then you'll want to wait for ps3 emulation compatibility.

    11:30 - Haha... ingenious! It reminds me of a time back around 2006, when I left "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" running with my right-mouse button taped down, whilst I went to school, to grind the "Block" skill on my character whilst an enemy kept attacking me haha...

    I ordered mine last week, the same SNES-inspired color, in addition to an 8Bitdo controller and HDMI out cable. One of the biggest features I'm looking forward to is being able to play it on TV! Can't wait for it to arrive so I can play some classic Dreamcast generation games as well as PSP, DS, and some of the timeless PS2 titles! By the way you're very handsome! Lol!

    • @sdlock83
      @sdlock83 Год назад

      @@MjolnirStone I'm just hoping that it'll also run PS2's Street Fighter Alpha Anthology. Other RUclipsrs have demo'd the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus running PS2's Hyper Street Fighter II, Street Fighter III Third Strike, Capcom vs. SNK 2 without issues. I was never able to get the 2D fighting games running choppy sound on the PCSX2 on the PC, which is exponentially more powerful than these retro handheld devices. So I'm hoping that being that this is a DEDICATED emulation device, and the fact that it's an Android-based PS2 emulator, I would have a little better luck. Anyway I ordered my Retroid Pocket Flip 04/20/2023. No sign that it's been shipped yet. But I'm hoping it'll arrive at the latest by the end of May!

    Just wondering, does the flip run emulation as smooth as the 3+ you said in the video you prefer the 3+ as a stay home device. And in this video u were saying the flip maxes out at ps2, can the flip not play WII emulation? The 3+ you had the wii emulator working somewhat fine.

    • @zake64

      They are running the exact same chipset, so performance really should not differ much between the two. I would not really consider either to be a Wii-capable machine, save for maybe a few less demanding titles.
