@KnightOfColumbus Well, yeah CC can be good to rat out awful people (Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, John K., the Subway guy etc.) but nowadays it's gotten out of control where one little mistake can ruin a life for stupid reasons, like in Family Guy when Brain made a racist joke (unintentionally of course) that made everyone explode, Brain even called them out for getting all worked up over one stupid joke.

Objectively speaking comedy is entirely subjective and cant be analised objectively or the entire concept is invalid.
It can't be experienced objectively, only subjectively.
And subjectively, I've seen many great jokes about murder, discrimination, and sexual assault, many of which had real impact and made me think, similar to Carlin's famous 7 words bit and its commentary on social propriety and societal censorship.
Comedy has alwase been a 'safe' way to discus touchy subjects, and for that to work comedians must be out of step with most people in what they say, weather that is pointing out how the king fucked up a war or pointing out that Bill Cosby was just plain fucked up
So, yes, comedians should *absolutely* get a pass specifically because they make people laugh.

Quagmire saying to his parent Ida, "Oh please just be gay" ... An adult son finding out his beloved father is transgender isn't going to take it so easily at first, plus he came around to the idea near the end.
It was _not_ the show writers telling their POV about transg. people and telling the viewers to think exactly the same way.
That's the only reason I could come up with to why people were angry at Quagmire for saying that back in the day. Sometimes something is just based on the character, not an outlet for the writers or a lesson for the viewers.

I think it was very disrespectful to all of the Vietnam veterans who died on the battlefield and to those who didn’t get a proper welcome home! I met an Australian veteran at my local RSL club who served in Vietnam and I found it very difficult that his generation didn’t get a proper welcoming home like my late grandfathers generation who served in Ww2!

@@richardabela2090 and yet, the CARTOON JOKE was still funny! The brilliance of the joke is in pointing out a wall full of names of dead soldiers, seen from the other (and yes, the winning) side. Better yet, it takes a jab at the very American way we act when we are the victors. Of course, the irony is you would likely never see this happen in real life. That’s why the joke works. Anyone who can’t laugh at humor is too hung up on their own issues.

As a transgender woman, I will definitely say that it was offensive as hell. We're not monsters, we're just people trying to live our lives. We do face a daily struggle that cis people will never understand. We were simply born in the wrong body. Also there's something cis people need to think about:
Imagine that tomorrow you wake up in the body of the opposite sex, but absolutely nothing else about you had changed. Wouldn't you desperately want to get back into the correct body? Now imagine facing that your entire life.

If you had a brain you would know that I was referring to Brian vomiting for a full minute. That part was what I personally found offensive. I never said it wasn't okay. What I said in fact was that we're not monsters. I gave you a scenario to imagine. you chose to ignore that, then decided to put words in my mouth to make a bigoted comment. Learn to read. Also quit telling people how they feel about certain things.

I don't feel that it was....They make fun of everyone and everything...I'm black...Do you how many times they've been offensive to black people? I don't really feel that they were pushing their own views, it's from the standpoint of an adult male who finds out that their elderly father is trans....that would be hard for anyone to come to terms with and accept in their mid-forties about one of their parents. Or anyone at any point of their lives. It's an individuals comfort level and how they interpret and understand and react to outside stimuli. This is your manly military father who was incredibly cool to you that they idolized and loved by the way. I think the initial reactions are appropriate to society whether it's right or not, that is how the general public reacts. And She's accepted by the end and very much beloved, and even though Brian "Gets sick" realizing he slept with Ida, he continues to do it multiple times. I'm not sure where the offense was. They offend everyone equally? Maybe i don't know what i'm talking about 🤷🏽‍♂
