    I live not even 15 minutes away from the EMG factory, as well as the Mesa/Boogie factory, in Petaluma, CA.

    I have the same setup on 4 of my guitars and I gotta say its the most versatile pickups set I have ever played. You can literally play pretty much any style of music on this combo and nail the sound your going for, absolutely amazing pickups.

    the placement of pickup in relation to the strings and guitar is also an important factor on what sound u get out of it even though if they are the same pickup.
    the closer the pickup is to the bridge, more treble and attack u get.
    go search EMG81x! it has been out for agggges.

    @7amsays Funny thing is, EMG is located in Northern California.

    @jamesallan87 I used to have 60 on the neck, but I found it sounds better, with an 81 as well in the neck.
    sounds brighter, and less bassy, but still has the warm rhythm feels on clean, and has even more attack on lead.
    EMG 81 for life.
    looking forward to EMG 81x tho.

    ok i read up on the 81x and it sounds like it wouldnt be worth replacing an original 81 with it. but i have yet to hear one. as for pickup placement, sounds legit. but im quite content with my 85 at the neck x)

  • @TangeClown
    @TangeClown 12 лет назад

    two questions. 1. if you had the same pickup in both spots, wouldnt it sound the same going from bridge to neck? 2. what is the 81x? ive not heard of it yet

    the 18v mod isn't for the advantage of battery changing, and if it is. you wired it wrong. it's supposed to be wired in series I believe and if you wire it in parallel all you're doing is giving each pickup it's own battery and that won't effect your tone. btw change the battery on your damn guitar. after like a year you should dude.

  • @guitartec
    @guitartec 15 лет назад

    My customers aren't tech people, they're simply players, and they sometimes forget to change batteries, so they get battery failure. Regardless of why, they're still let down by their actives.
    Forget the 18V mod, I suggest installing a battery strength meter on the guitar.

    im familiar with bareknuckle. i like them, but i gotta put them at 3rd best. right after duncan. bareknuckles are very nice, but they dont seem to put out the power i like. or maybe i just never see anyone run it through the settings. im also extremely partial to active pickups. so i naturally like emg the best. duncan is my top favorite for passive. and to be honest i want metallica to just stop...

  • @TangeClown
    @TangeClown 11 лет назад

    well last few live performances i saw it didnt seem like they were very good anymore.. but new albums have been terrible. and i guess some bareknuckles would sound pretty good, considering i use schecters through a tripple rectifier half stack

    I don't know wether metallica are as good as they used to be but live they are fairly good. Provided kirk isn't sloppy, lars isn't being a bit..... Different and James' voice is decent on the night. Try Warpigs or nail bombs. Honestly to me more gain than emgs. Even with the 18v mod. Then again my kh-2 with emgs sucks so maybe that's why I'm not too keen

    I FIX GUITARS ALL DAY LONG. Every time actives appear on my bench, the customer ALWAYS has a story of how the pickups went dead (battery) just before or during a gig or some other important event. Just because your pups never die doesn't mean others who gig nightly don't have problems with them. I just say what I see.

    the EMG 81 active humbucker. the greatest pickup known to the guitar world. arguable the 89 because it literally is the 81 with the coil tap.. still i find no use for the coil tap with my rig.

  • @1959twa
    @1959twa 11 лет назад

    No no no.... The greatest active pickup. Check out a company called Bareknuckle Pickups. Particularly the Warpig. It has a higher output than an emg. And it's passive! In 10 years I bet bands as big as metallica are using them.

    also you can do the 18v mod , takes about 2 minutes and you will NEVER change the battery

    you tech people who gig and they dont change there battery? There asking for trouble ,it takes even less time than doing the 18 volt mod . 5 bucks every 6 months? If you gig nightly and you dont change your battery you FAIL
