Just terrible @ taxi driver! Sorry you experienced that. I also was scammed when I first arrived and didn't know any better. It does look like based on these Philippine vlogs you enjoyed which is awesome! Next time you come to Manila we definitely MUST hang out! I will take you around and we WON'T BE SCAMMED! Cheers, Mikey!

I am Indian. Philipinos no need to apolise every country has bad good people. No need to be embarssed be proud of your country. Love to 🇵🇭 from india 🇮🇳.
I'm so sorry that you got scammed. Another RUclipsr, Haley Dasovich, got scammed by a taxi driver at the airport too. The taxi driver was arrested, and hopefully the police will be able to stop these scammers. Ever since Grab and Uber entered the scene, it seems like only criminals are left driving taxis.
That's horrible. There is actually a free bus to go to another terminal in the airport. I also didn't know about it in the past, but now I always use the bus to go to a different terminal because it's safer.
This video made it to national news in the Philippines. Thanks for bringing it out and helping fellow travelers. Just like anywhere in the world, you got to be careful. Also knowing someone to show you around definitely helps, I can tell that you’re just scratching the surface of what the Philippines can give you, as of the other countries you have visited.
I got scammed by taxi drivers when I was in Manila. The taxi drivers there are just mostly scumbags I'm afraid. I have many stories regarding taxi drivers there. One incident I could not forget was when we were at Hotel H20 and when we got out it started to drizzle. When I approached a taxi driver to go somewhere the driver told me that I had to pay his price (not the meter) because he doesn't want to drive with that kind of weather because of the flood. I turned him down and approached the other taxi driver (there were a few of them lining up and just parking) and basically he turned me down as well. All of them wanted me to pay their set fare and not base it on the meter (I'm told that the place I wanted to go was just a short distance away). I was so pissed at this so I decided to just walk. Another incident was when I was at the airport (NAIA) and again the taxi drivers wanted me to add an additional fare on top of the metered fare. I knew this was illegal practice. I approached the airport concierge and they said they will try to look for a ride for me. One of the guys working there approached me and said he knows someone who can take me to the place I wanted to go. I listened to this guy thinking he would not be some sort of scammer because he was working at the airport. It turns out they have this group of drivers who were driving their own personal cars and they charged more than what the taxis were asking. I've never had any good experiences with taxi drivers there. It was a disgusting experience. I am glad that Grab and Uber are now available. You can get around much better and cheaper with them than with local taxis especially in Manila.
some taxi drivers in the philippines are trying to go home early when theres a flood due to their houses in the province being poorly built. and some are just scammers
They dont even choose, i remember back then when i was still new to manila (being a country boy from the philippines) a fare that would cost 140 became 500 and if i wasnt in a hurry i wouldve fought with him then and there.
Just take pictures of their plate number then give it to Raffy Tulfo of TV5, that all lined up scam taxi's will go down on their knees and ask your forgiveness because they will surely in Jail.
This things makes me ashamed of my country. Actually, those are the legit fare for those kind of taxis and they are related to our airport. Theyre called airport taxis. We avoid them. We dont really ride. I dont even know who rides them and why are they still there. Uber's your best choice here but they're going to be Grab which is a liitle worse than uber but still better than taxi.
if you have been scammed by taxis here, please report this so they will learn their lesson. This should change, we don't need drivers that victimize passengers and give bad reputation to Philippines. Please report them, I beg you.
Im so sorry Michael for that scam. They caught him and he will no longer be driving anyone. Also got 2 cabs impounded from the company by the government and the company will no longer be serving in that airport. Thanks for reporting it by doing the right thing even if it is very difficult to do.
I'm a Filipino and I was also scammed by Airport Taxi. 😑 Use Grab and Uber next time 😉 or tell directly to driver to use the meter first before getting inside. If he refused, find another taxi.

The Filipinos are kind, hospitable and respectful people. I hope people especially foreigners wont stereotype Filipinos for being thieves or scammers because those kinds Filipinos are just maybe 3% of the entire population.

A lot of Cab Drivers in the PH have scammed me already and Im filipino. If you're in a hurry they'll take advantage of that. I was charged more just cuz it was a little traffic. I think its really due to Uber and Grab being more popular and convenient.

Did you manage to take down the taxi driver's license plate and info? Another taxi driver was on the news recently for charging P500 for a ride which should have only cost P250 and got his taxi impounded. Your taxi driver is much, much worse!
Sorry you got scammed. I'm Filipino but prefer to use Uber/Grab instead. Prices are still horrendous on peak hours but at least you'll have options and can have an informed choice. Thank you for reporting the taxi to the police.

Its because of filipino attitude to say bahala na and just leave the problem without doing something about it. That trait is what I despise the most about pinoys. We should start complaining for the better and never accept this low level quality of life!
Beau Jamo this Indian influence to our world-view, the "bahala na" which came from an Indian word of the 12th century chronolect "Battara" which later became "Bat'hala" to which the word "Bahala" was derived, meaning "I resign this to the divine" is what the crooked ones use as a loophole for them to make those hullaballoo. The best question this situation elicits is: "Who are acting behind the scene in this systematic taxi scam at the airport?"
so glad you reported the taxi to the police! and i'm glad the police were courteous towards you guys. so sorry you got scammed, it's unfortunately very common, that's why most filipinos opt to use services like uber or grab. hope you enjoyed the trip and come back tho!
Never pay these scammers! You are not obligated at all. Just don’t pay. I prefer Grab Taxi which is based in the Philippines. Mikey, my uncle is a police captain at NAIA!
Good on you for reporting it Michael. Here in the Philippines, you gotta stand up to these scammers on a daily basis. Regrets for the experience but you did us a favor by helping with the effort to protest and expose these unscrupulous taxi drivers. Not all are cheats, but there remains that problem of more than a few rotten tomatoes that spoil the reputation of the whole lot. Salamat pa rin.
Man, I'm sorry for that scam.... Just take Uber or Grab.......... And From Terminal 3 to 4 is just a short travel. And, fare can be up to just $2 because T3 and T4 And there is a bus going throughout the entire airport, the bus at the back when you talk about the scam Again, from almost all 104 million Filipino WE ARE SORRY
Dude i am really happy that the scammer was found... and btw you were in the freaking news! That's so awesome! You are famous here in the Philippines... wish that i can meet you someday
hi mikey! filipino fan here!!! first of all i want to apologize because of that situation you were in to. i have to say a lot of tourist and locals are being scammed at the airport. reporting it to the police is a great idea, i salute you for that. i hope people watching this video learn something and do what you did. tolerating and ignoring this crime is like supporting/becoming their accomplice... btw, i always watch your vlogs and had so much fun. I'm aspiring RUclips errrr possibly but not now. you're my inspiration (not just you hihihi) also the mikey here from Canada too. thank you for coming here in the Philippines please come again, hope to meet in person someday.
Mr. Chen. For those of us who live here, taxi scams are common. Taxi drivers will either tell you they do not have money to give you change or they will scam you by grossly over charging you as the driver did to you. When that happens you should tell the driver to take you to the nearest police station to let them settle the scam for you. Take pictures of the driver, his taxi card and his licence plate. Make sure you get your baggage and you explain to the policeman first what has happened. I really enjoy your broadcasts. Keep them coming
I am a foreigner live in PH. Actually, there are 3 types of taxi at NAIA airport, coupon taxi (expensive, ignore them if they approach you), yellow meter taxi (start P70+ distance) and normal taxi (start with P40 + P13.50/KM). I used to take the later two. Once get on the taxi, ensure they use the meter, then shall be fine. If go to airport or any place in Metro Manila, can order taxi using Grab/Uber.
Ugh sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately, alot of taxi drivers are like that. I recommend either using uber or grabcar. Pricing is more streamlined, no surprises. And most drivers are decent human beings just trying to make a living. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in the Philippines! It truly is an amazing place
Gabrielle Jarmin lets nots over generalized. Right now there's maybe a 70:30 ratio. There are still honest and reliable taxi drivers. BUT if you mixed 70% bad "apples" to the good ones, everyone gets judged the same way. Too bad for the good ones coz they get stereotyped right off the bat.
Every time I watch your videos on your food reviews and a broccoli pops up it’s like a complete showdown! I laugh way to hard every time you find a broccoli in your food lol
How could a hotel or air b&b without hot water?? That's terrible. Also glad you reported that taxi driver to the police. He must have scammed many tourists already.
Thats not normal tho, i dont think thats also standard, i used to live in the philippines and i was just there couple months ago, our house still has and always had hot water
Philippines is a tropical country so we prefer to shower with cold water because of our humid weather. Hotels definitely have hot water so there’s nothing to worry about.
Im glad to see how much you were able to try here. I hope that taxi exp doesnt affect how you view the philippines. There are just a lot of people here trying to make a living to the point they have to take advantage of others to have enough. This does not of course justify their actions to be fair or right.
I feel ashamed about what happened man.. im really sorry. But hope you enjoyed ur stay and enjoyed ur food journey here in the ph.. theres a lot more. The one u experienced is just the tip of the iceberg!!! More power!!
Thanks to social media, there is social justice. Keep these kind of videos coming, this is a wake-up call to scammers to think twice before doing any scamming or they will regret later.
Mike in behalf of my countrymen we are really sorry for what happened. But mike that chic in your video is so cute 😍 i really hope you still had a great time here. Sa muling pagbabalik.
Aw man, I got scammed too when I was there a couple months ago. I paid 2,800 to get to Makati from the airport. My uber wasn't picking up any rides and the wifi didn't work when I landed, so I had to resort to a taxi. Ugh, sucks that this is happening to so many people. Glad you reported it.
I'm really sorry for the scam part of your travel. Thank God you've documented it! Nevertheless, I hope that the situation won't affect your overall perception of the Philippines and of us Pinoys. 😊 P.S. i've been binge-watching the vlogs for 2 days now. Lol!
Philip Xander Santos holdapers = muggers. And OP it's not just at night tbh The time and place don't matter. If you look loaded they're gonna go for it.
I'm really sorry that you had to experience that. It's situations like this that really put the Philippines down. I hope you still enjoyed your stay though!
That's kind of a silly reason to not travel. Just be super careful, use things that are familiar to you (uber, ect) don't go alone and remember you're not obligated to pay.
Don't be scared to travel. Travel in safe countries. The moment you arrive in those countries' airports and you clutch your stuff a little less, is an incredible feeling. I was overseas in an IKEA and I saw a family just leave their bags while they got food, I was like WOAH these people are so trusting and then I realised it's because decent people wouldn't have a reason to go through your bag in the first place. It's not that they're too trusting, it's just that the people around them aren't complete assholes.
Good travel advice in general Mikey. Airport taxi drivers are shady everywhere. It can be doubly tough to negotiate down when there's language barriers too. Always good to keep your head on a swivel about that stuff, and don't be afraid to involve police if they pull some crap like keeping your luggage hostage. Often the threat will be enough to set them straight.
Mike Chen, is intelligent.. He knows there are good and bad all over the world... And so he did the right thing, to report the taxi driver... But it will not stop him from coming back to the Philippines... That's for sure... He will visit Pampanga, Gen San, Bohol etc etc...
Mikey, you were on the TV patrol Philippines news program. They caught the guy who ripped you off! Good going Mikey and Haley for posting this. I hope this doesn't ruin your experience in the Philippines!
Im very sorry for the unfortunate event that you had experienced with a taxi driver, at every corner of the world there will always have rotten ones, hope that the bad experienced wouldn't hamper your desire to come back to our beloved country Philippines. Thank you!
OMG! Mikey, so glad you reported him. Philippine taxis are being exposed for their scams at the moment! Let's hope the next visitor to the country does not suffer the same fate.Haley Dasovich went viral with her taxi footage. Poor girl she used to get dropped off nowhere near where she needs to be whenever she refused the fair. There has been many horrific stories!
@@Schwertleite26don't misinterpret the comment....it is common for foreigners to get scammed in Asia especially when it's their forst time travelling there. Any avid traveller would tell you that.
Taxi drivers declined to take me to the airport when I was late for my departure flight. Got unlucky with one driver who charged me 3 times by making a verbal contract after I got in to his car. Tried to get a better deal but he only charged me P450 instead of P500 instead of a P100 fare to the airport. Main reason they declined and charged too much? Traffic. But we got to the airport in 20 minutes (eye roll) didn't have time and patience to dispute and get a lower fare charge but learned my lesson from that experience. As long as I continue to go early to the airport or get the bus from the airport I get the correct fare charge. Just make sure to tell them to start the meter and don't make any verbal contract with the driver or use Grab (i'm not sure if there is Uber in Manila/Luzon. As for cold showers, most of the Philippines bath cold. Unless your unit/bathroom has a shower heater, you need to boil your own water and mix it in with the cold water in a pail then shower that way. I suggest you take the normal hotel accommodation to get hot showers but for Airbnb I think you can ask them first if they have shower heater.
Hey my friend! I am glad you had a fab time in the Philippines! I am happy to say that since I came back as well, so many things have improved. With UBER taking over the market, the taxis you experienced are getting fewer and fewer. And yes, many of the service people are very nice and courteous. Good times, my man! Hope you come back soon. I will make time to meet up just to say hello, if possible.
Really sorry and if you have uploaded it sooner or the day you got scammed I'm sure you'll be on the news you are popular here in the PH too so definitely you'll get your justice
I'm a Filipino and I advise all the tourists to use Grab or Uber when you come to Philippines. Because drivers of regular taxi and "AIRPORT TAXI," tends to negotiate the price instead of using the taxi meter. If there's no option, get a cab that belongs to a taxi company like: MGE EMP Sturdy (color yellow with a horse sign) Dollar (color red with a dollar sign) Basic Avis
I’m sorry man, I hope it won’t be your last visiting our country. I sad I shared the same skin with that driver. More power man take care and ur crew too.
I was in the Philippines at the NAIA airport in the lounge for star alliance and the lady in the bathroom wouldn’t let me leave until I gave her money. she legit stood in front of the doorway telling me different stories and I was like this is getting awkward I’ll give her the money so I could leave!
I got 'scammed' too and I'm Filipino. I put quotes because it wasn't really called a scam back in the day. The taxi drivers will just tell you what the price you'll pay and that was normal when you're riding from the airport. Sad that those kind of scams still exists. But based on my experience, I think there's a small improvement. I think it's not as common as before.
Just terrible @ taxi driver! Sorry you experienced that. I also was scammed when I first arrived and didn't know any better. Never pay these scammers! You are not obligated at all. Just don’t pay. I prefer Grab Taxi which is based in the Philippines. Mikey, my uncle is a police captain at NAIA!
noone cares.
Zorayda Nevada good idea. But these peiple can have guns or knives.
juan def Wtf?
police captain? kaya pala madaming gago sa airport hahahah
Zorayda Nevada he didnt even know that your uncle was an officer here
Good on you for reporting it Michael.
OMG THOSE PRICES ARE INSANE! GLAD YOU ARE SAFE MIKEY!
Even filipinos get scammed here. Even if I live here I don't take taxis. Uber or grab only.
Man, I'm sorry for that scam....
Just take Uber or Grab..........
And From Terminal 3 to 4 is just a short travel.
And, fare can be up to just $2 because T3 and T4
And there is a bus going throughout the entire airport, the bus at the back when you talk about the scam
Again, from almost all 104 million Filipino
WE ARE SORRY
Dude i am really happy that the scammer was found... and btw you were in the freaking news! That's so awesome! You are famous here in the Philippines... wish that i can meet you someday
This was in the local news this morning
Yeah I saw it
That's why he looks so familiar
hi mikey! filipino fan here!!! first of all i want to apologize because of that situation you were in to. i have to say a lot of tourist and locals are being scammed at the airport. reporting it to the police is a great idea, i salute you for that. i hope people watching this video learn something and do what you did. tolerating and ignoring this crime is like supporting/becoming their accomplice... btw, i always watch your vlogs and had so much fun. I'm aspiring RUclips errrr possibly but not now. you're my inspiration (not just you hihihi) also the mikey here from Canada too. thank you for coming here in the Philippines please come again, hope to meet in person someday.
Haven’t been watching your videos due to me being on a diet, but I’m back 🤫
Mr.
1:57 She took a picture because she taught you were Jackie Chan
😸same here every time I watched your blog, you reminds me of Jackie Chan, with same sense of humor too! 😝😁
Not true. She knew it was Mikey Chen!😁😎
Sorry about that taxi man. Filipinos are really good people.
Pinoy Adventure Rider no
No they ain't!
Inspect Elephant fuckyou
Snap exoskeleton fuckyou
You sure about that?
Ugh sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately, alot of taxi drivers are like that. I recommend either using uber or grabcar. Pricing is more streamlined, no surprises. And most drivers are decent human beings just trying to make a living. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in the Philippines! It truly is an amazing place
6:49 dam that cab didnt even stop for the family in the crosswalk....
Cademan Caden sadly most signs are a more of a "suggestions" over there. Not all drivers abide by them.
Cademan Caden In the Philippines, drivers believe they have right of way and that pedestrians have to watch for them
Our cab drivers are assholes.
Also in Thailand
That scammer should be caught and publicly shamed. Good freakin grief, like seriously.
he did got busted
Your videos are amazing keep it up
Every time I watch your videos on your food reviews and a broccoli pops up it’s like a complete showdown! I laugh way to hard every time you find a broccoli in your food lol
Mike as a filipino im emberssed for myself im
Sorry for what happen uc filipinos do anything just to get money
Im sorry i feel bad for ya!
This blog was reported on a local network here in the phils, thanks mikey!
How could a hotel or air b&b without hot water?? That's terrible. Also glad you reported that taxi driver to the police. He must have scammed many tourists already.
Pretty normal. Hot water is not standard! Gotta keep an eye out for that under amenities when in the Philippines.
bart1meuz really? Normal there? I would never know. Thanks for the heads up.
The hotel had hot water the airbnb didnt
Thats not normal tho, i dont think thats also standard, i used to live in the philippines and i was just there couple months ago, our house still has and always had hot water
Philippines is a tropical country so we prefer to shower with cold water because of our humid weather. Hotels definitely have hot water so there’s nothing to worry about.
I’m shocked and felt sorry. i’m also a pinoy. i hope the bad experience that happend to you will not affect how you look at philippines in general..
BRO MIKEY CHAN, I saw u in TV patrol in the Philippines about the taxi scam :o
Im glad to see how much you were able to try here. I hope that taxi exp doesnt affect how you view the philippines. There are just a lot of people here trying to make a living to the point they have to take advantage of others to have enough. This does not of course justify their actions to be fair or right.
Feast Feast Feast! Most taxi drivers here are really scammers.
I feel ashamed about what happened man.. im really sorry. But hope you enjoyed ur stay and enjoyed ur food journey here in the ph.. theres a lot more. The one u experienced is just the tip of the iceberg!!! More power!!
looks like the Taxi car # is 8043 @ 7:24
anthony nguyen thats the conduction number, its helpful though as this track down the plate number
el padrino snitching applies if you are a lowlife criminal. Law abiding citizens call the police.
Boo!!!!
ive been victimized too once from terminal 3 with so much threat intimidation and coercion. its a good thing you were able to report this incident.
Good job reporting that crook.
Mikey Revolution! ❤Justice for Mikey! DON'T MESS WITH MIKEY!
Hey mike! You're on philippine tv just now, regarding on your report about the taxi scam, good job man!👏💪
Justice has been served bro, the taxi has been arrested including the driver. philippinesdaily.org/scammer-taxi-driver-arrested/
I'm really sorry for the scam part of your travel. Thank God you've documented it! Nevertheless, I hope that the situation won't affect your overall perception of the Philippines and of us Pinoys. 😊 P.S. i've been binge-watching the vlogs for 2 days now. Lol!
Be also careful of snatchers and holdapers at night.
what the heck is a "holdaper"?
Philip Xander Santos robbers lol
Philip Xander Santos - holdup man ^^
Philip Xander Santos holdapers = muggers. And OP it's not just at night tbh The time and place don't matter. If you look loaded they're gonna go for it.
What a shame. Even pinoys are warning you about holdupers, thieves etc etc. Classic greetings to a foreigner. Hahah shameful
Unfortunately taxi drivers even do this with their own fellow people. I feel sad that you have gone through it😔
We love you Jackie Chan! Just kidding haha. Keep up the good work man!
I'm really sorry that you had to experience that. It's situations like this that really put the Philippines down. I hope you still enjoyed your stay though!
This is why I don't travel. Fear of everyone trying to scam me.
That's kind of a silly reason to not travel. Just be super careful, use things that are familiar to you (uber, ect) don't go alone and remember you're not obligated to pay.
Do your homework before you travel & take all precautions. All countries have their downsides, you just need to be wary.
ziljin Just bring a friend who is familiar and knows the country well. Especially the scams
But your profile picture seems fearless.lmao
BRO,YOU'RE ON PH NEWS!!
CarloisSs oo nga haha
I feel you. Im sorry you experienced that in the philippines its soooo shameful. Those people are ruining your vacation.
Jasmina is so cute, LF a GF like her
Mike Chen, is intelligent.. He knows there are good and bad all over the world... And so he did the right thing, to report the taxi driver...
But it will not stop him from coming back to the Philippines...
That's for sure... He will visit Pampanga, Gen San, Bohol etc etc...
Mike@are you ok? You look really sick!
sorry about ur taxi scam experience, im glad u upload that and u get justice on that, hope it didnt put u off coming back to my country
Sry that ain't a cab, that's a tricycle (I think that's what it's called I can't remember but it ain't a cab)
Djcatmilk Nikki yes it tricycle
Mikey, you were on the TV patrol Philippines news program. They caught the guy who ripped you off! Good going Mikey and Haley for posting this. I hope this doesn't ruin your experience in the Philippines!
Have you seen Haley Dasovich's taxi scam video?
Im very sorry for the unfortunate event that you had experienced with a taxi driver, at every corner of the world there will always have rotten ones, hope that the bad experienced wouldn't hamper your desire to come back to our beloved country Philippines. Thank you!
One of the reasons why I don't want to go back to the Philippines lol...
you couldn't pay me to go to that country
Yea I get you bro... My experience wasn't so bad, except for the scammers and afterwards when I got a bunch of mosquito bites on my legs
jeremy Thank God for that! Only nice people there, thank you!! 😄
Got scammed? Normal everywhere in Asian countries. Obviously the driver didn't think you looked like Jackie Chan.. LMAO 😁
Larry Song so you saying america is safe
Also never leave your personal belongings unattended anywhere in metro manila another thing to take extra caution of pickpockets
If there's no option, get a cab that belongs to a taxi company like:
MGE
EMP
Sturdy (color yellow with a horse sign)
Dollar (color red with a dollar sign)
Basic
Avis
I’m sorry man, I hope it won’t be your last visiting our country. I sad I shared the same skin with that driver. More power man take care and ur crew too.
I was in the Philippines at the NAIA airport in the lounge for star alliance and the lady in the bathroom wouldn’t let me leave until I gave her money. she legit stood in front of the doorway telling me different stories and I was like this is getting awkward I’ll give her the money so I could leave!
We are so sorry that you experienced that...please be careful.
Never take the airport taxis and the regular taxis also. Make sure you have the Grab App on your phone when you want to roam around the metro.
