It's better to be specific when talking about Indonesian cultures, because Indonesia is very diverse, probably like Euro Union. Every region has their own language, food, dances etc. Nasi tumpeng is part of Javanese cultures, in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi is hard to find nasi tumpeng, because it's not part of their cultures. Enjoy your vacation Mike, if you are still in Central Java/Yogyakarta don't forget to visit Prambanan Temple (a beautiful hindus temple). Keep up the good work!

Strewth! That's my idea of the perfect birthday cake! Also wanted to say thank you for being the catalyst and inspiration for my round the world foodie vlogging adventure. If not for your videos, I might not have taken the big leap into the unknown. Still learning to travel and struggling a wee bit with filming solo but am gaining great tips from your content. Thank you ever so much!

Nasi Tumpeng is celebration or ceremonial food, so is not specific for only birthday. If that said as birthday cake there is no objection on that as per celebration mean. Even though is rice not cake. Lol. Peace

Was there last year. Great place to visit. We hired a tour guide and got the full story about the temple. We stayed at a hotel in town that had an awesome breakfast buffet with Western and Indonesian dishes. We went to the summer palace too. That was really neat to see and we walked in Mark Zuckerberg's footsteps in the cyber community there. Stopped and purchased bamboo t-shirts from a shop there that handed out cold bottles of fresh mangosteen juice with your purchase. We had very tasty chicken bao from a cart outside where we parked.

Your definitely a typical man when you only dedicate 0.25 seconds to show the "greens" portion of the dish. It didn't even get a full second of video time. Which I find very entertaining because thats what I would have done myself. Mike Chen IS the best food reviewer on youtube. Happy birthday buddy!

  • @Gighi208

Hi Mike, hope you enjoy your trip in my country. Cant wait to watch it on Strictly Dumpling channel.
By the way, about souvenir shops, it's the government who tidied up all the sellers into a souvenirs shopping complex so the seller won't disturb you when you're enjoying the site. In the past, they roamed around the site and offered (and forced you to buy) their goods and it was really disturbing. Now, it's far more better. You may find that again around central and east Java's traveling sites (and all around Indonesia of course) in case you visit them in the future.
You'll also find sweeter side of food in central Java. That's the authentic flavor.
Another thing, if you visit Bali, be careful of scams, even local like me can be scammed. Having official tour agent or local friends are the best thing when you are in Bali.
Enjoy Indonesia, Mike and team ❤️❤️❤️

So we here use "mosquito spray" for room or lotion for our skin like - let me tell you the brands such as- "soffel" or "autan" etc to protect our skin from mosquito bites during sleep. Hopefully it'll help you
