    I must say, this interviewer is excellent. Thoughtful questions, and he also allowed Michael Moore to completely answer them. You don't always see this today, at least not on American TV where interruptions are constant.

      I listen to the BBC news (Rocky Jones is one presenter) and the reporters on the News Hour do in fact talk over the interviewee in order to bring the interviewee back to the subject. Interruptions are plentiful. On both sides of the Pond.

      @Darth Pepe the people that focus only on WWII are myopic. the lesson from WWII for most Americans is that we are the good guys and that we can control the rest of the world through warfare. WWII was almost the only instance in history where the defeated nations surrendered unconditionally an we went in and wrote their constitutions. WWI is the far better lesson when it comes to how war actually works: all of the countries after slaughtering a generation of the their children went home beating their chests about how great they were, raised up another generation of kids and then went back to war again... that is normally how it works. We cannot control other nations through violence.
      In terms of Michael Moore and his assessment of Trump and his leadership being akin to Hitler and the propaganda etc of the Nazi regime: I don't think there is anyone with a good understanding of it that does not see the connection. I would highly suggest that everyone read Hannah Arendt's On totalitarianism (Holocaust survivor and leading scholar on the Nazi regime..)

Is because you are embedded in it. you've been surrounded by people whispering in your ear pointing the finger at somebody else telling you look how bad those people are until eventually you naturally had a very negative feeling towards the other side. I was a liberal and a very far left one at that. So I witnessed the ideological manipulations that the liberal party was subjected to. Mostly in college but settling in school as well. It was very shocking to see the radical changes of the left and the things they started to call for he'll eventually turning the liberal Party 180 degrees from where it once was and not many of them noticed.

    This is great👍🏽
    Mike's analysis of the numbers IS important.
    In NZ, we citizens took a look at the numbers a couple of decades ago.
    Not good.
    So we changed our entire system of voting!
    We went from a Westminister-style democracy that had elections using the first-past-the-post (FPP) vote counting method; to a democracy that now has elections using the mixed-member-proportional (MMP) vote counting method.
    We still have a Parliament. One House. (Kiwis call it 'our house')
    Each political party still picks their own leaders. Now every candidate goes on a party-list. They are ranked. Political parties still pick candidates to run in every local electorate seat. Now candidates can compete for a seat in the House, OR they can rely on their own party list-ranking.
    Now, when we vote we get two lists to choose from and two votes:
    The list of people wanting to represent your electorate seat.
    The list of political parties.
    So, like many Kiwis ..... my opinions and views aren't reflected in just one political party.
    Not many 'two ticks blue/two ticks red' kiwis exist. We're kinda weary of that tribalism to be honest - though we are having a dose of "the trump effect" - sigh.
    I 'split my vote'. My candidate choice doesn't get my party choice.
    And let the dice lay where they fall.
    The results are always coalitions governments. No ONE winner. Compromise and negotiation.
    I'm okay with that.

    • @peterkotara
      @peterkotara 6 лет назад +4

      @Angela Greenkiwi
      Yep. It took a little getting used to (I was initially reluctant to split my vote) but I think we've settled into it (I actually voted for STV in the first referendum)
      The insane tribalism in the U.S political system is hard baked and scary, it's become like a sport where "my team can do no wrong" is the driving principle.
      Unfortunately I don't see it changing in my lifetime.

      @Kake Incorrect.
      We have had a 30-year economic experiment that has produced the biggest gap between rich and poor since The Treaty of Waitangi was signed.
      Brian Bruce has some excellent docos available here on RUclips, if you're interested. (E.g. Who owns New Zealand now?)
      It outlines our egalitarian principles within the socialised framework that built our society ... and the forces that destroyed it.
      Thing is .... I'm okay. I'm mortgage free, university educated, worked abroad, well travelled and I live a comfortable lifestyle here back home. But it hasn't worked out that way for a growing number of my fellow Kiwis. And I KNOW it's not because they're lazy or lack ambition.
      I don't need or want a damn tax cut.
      I want a well funded health and education system. I want decent infrastructure and clean drinking water. I want a financial security net for those who life has thrown a curveball at. I want our environment to be preserved for the generations that will follow me.
      I want a society that cares for and about every citizen according to their needs.
      Because we're ALL connected, and a society is only as strong as it's weakest link.
      The Tangata Whenua of my land have a saying: He Waka Eke Noa (there's only one canoe so we're all in this together)
      I want to be able to walk down the street and know the people I pass by are okay. Not have to stop and buy the homeless man a packet of cigarettes like I did yesterday.
      Peace Out 💗

      @bhudson39 6 лет назад

      @Kake NZ got rid of subsidies and tariffs, simplified sales taxes, created trade agreements and strengthened universal healthcare by introducing Pharmac, a drug buying and distribution scheme.
      So it's a mix.
      NZ also changed immigration policies, which resulted in Auckland becoming one of the ethnically diverse cities in the world.
      NZ has the 4th strongest democracy in the world (according to the EIU), has free speech and communications rated ahead of the US (by the Cato institute, who has consistently ranked NZ in the top 5 for human freedom for years).
      NZ is not problem free, has a housing crisis in Auckland, and some social challenges.
      As a kiwi who has travelled quite a bit, and spent significant time in the US and UK, comparisons make me grateful that NZ has a very good and relatively corruption free political system.

    When the United States constitution was created ALL of the states allowed slavery not just the Southern states.
    The electoral college was created to insure the majority did not run roughshod over the minority. When you read what the attendees to the constitutional convention were concerned about (in their own words) was that the politicians would placate the most populous state (at the time it was Virginia) to the disadvantage of the less populous states.
    Today that is still a problem. Without the electoral college the politicians would use the federal government to the advantage of a half dozen states and to the disadvantage of the other 44 states.
    But then Mr. Moore is a professional at saying things that he knows are incorrect, but sound better for his political agenda than the truth.

    I dont think trump voters as a whole needs to be redeemed, they just voted what they believed was in thier best interest, and ignored the rest.

    • @David_Bower
      @David_Bower 6 лет назад

      Exactly! if candidates want people to vote for them then it's up to the candidate to give people a good reason to vote for them.

    • @angelperez3750
      @angelperez3750 6 лет назад

      @benjovi55 i actaully do know why republican voted for trump during republican primaries , it's because of his campaighn slogans like "build that wall, " " the muslim band he promised," and drain the swamp . There is no complex political history revolving trump or prior policy wich would sway votes, the bigger question is why didn't jeb bush win, and that could be answered from rising conflict inbetween classic moderate conservative such as george bush senior. With post regan era Republican during ( 90-00s), the last point being no matter how great hillary was hardcore republican weren't gonna change thier mind since they disagree at a fundamental level, and some trump vote weren't vote for trump, but vote in protest of hillary and the actions of the previous president. And also the odds weren't in there favor, a singular party tends hold power for about 8 years max, this unstated rule has been true since 1986, i believe

    Moore is right about a lot. We Californians believe in the same things he stands for. That’s why California is thriving. We are a state who governs with a
    libertarian perspective. That’s why we are set apart from the rest of the U. S. It is safe for people to live here. We have people running California who fight for all of us. Our community college and state colleges are affordable. I am happy to live here so long as we continue to differentiate from the rest of the country.

    "It gives more votes to the former slave states" is misleading. That could have been a motivating factor but a better way to explain it would be that it follows congressional representation, which favors smaller population states since all states have 2 senators.

    I love how he compares USA today to Germany in the 1930s, it's really very accurate, and it also applies to some other countries today. Ppl back then voted for Hitler, not because they were born murdering monsters, but because they were angry and desperate because they were fearing for their jobs and livelihoods, they were naive because they hoped that the guy who so eloquently said he'd solve all their problems would actually do what he promised, they were afraid to admit that they could be wrong, also because they believed that the alternative would be worse. All these things apply to USA today.

      Just like US has no respect for the stupidity he spouts about Trump. Trump rallies had thousands while hillarys had dozens. Hillary had to pay people and even pay for fake dossiers to smear trump and he still won. He refused the presidential salary. I could go on but no amount of logic resonates with the unhinged left.

    • @michaelrch
      @michaelrch 6 лет назад +2

      Jessica Caruso
      Just to correct a couple of facts, the story about Hillary paying her supporters was not actually true. However Trump did hire a casting agency to put 'supporters' at the event where he launched his presidential campaign in 2015. But he then didn't pay the agency the agreed price for four months, so maybe that means it doesn't count?
      www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/01/20/even-the-firm-that-hired-actors-to-cheer-trumps-campaign-launch-had-to-wait-to-be-paid/?.0e318d3a5a7d
      Also, the Steele Dossier was actually initially commissioned but the Republicans if you remember.

    • @michaelrch
      @michaelrch 6 лет назад +3

      Jessica Caruso
      Sorry, just to add, when considering Trump not taking a salary as President, remember that his company charge the US government (ie US taxpayers) every time he visits one of his own properties. So for example, when he visited Turnberry in Scotland, Trump charged US taxpayers $60,000 for visiting his own property for 2 days. These charges are collected every time he visits Bedminster, Mar-a-Lago etc so the thousands he is losing by not taking a salary, he is more than making up for by charging the US taxpayer millions every year for visiting his own properties.
