@@CarmenPerez-kz6rw That's accurate. I have never been able to understand his lifelong obsession with manufacturing a reason for the United States to invade Iran.
We individual humans who have sought to take responsibility for our part in the building of a constructive society have felt so sabotaged by his disruptive and malignant presence on the national scene. Some of us chose to see this era as deserving a backlash of collective efforts for correction of his malevolence. Our focal point became November 3rd, which now looks more like November 23rd. What president Trump did with drugs and vaccines with his project warp speed may be what finally ends this pandemic plus he did a tremendous job with ventilators and ppe, here in Europe we got the use of some of those ventilators instead of waiting and begging China.

I wish John Bolton would have stood up for America and testify in Congress - now he is lining his pocket and granting interviews - I would say unpatriotic if you asked me.
In other words, to paraphrase for Bolton, the current president is just not up for the job. He's just not smart enough. "He's very uneducated in world history." "... Donald Trump never seemed very interested in learning."
Being able to truly listen is such an under appreciated skill. You have to listen to, and trust, your advisors, especially at that level. Even if the idea is not so good, at least they will own it and take the time to make it work or turn it into a positive. Sometimes leadership is more about empowering and supporting your team, than trying to do everything yourself or making the focus about you (or your ideas) in a sermon-like fashion.

Yes, Donald Trump cannot read -- his family paid someone to take his SAT entrance exams to get into college, and then they paid for other "tutors" to help him with his homework and take other tests so that he could graduate. But no, Donald Trump cannot, for all intents, read. That is why he squints at the teleprompter and makes odd mistakes -- says things that make no sense, because he has been guessing what was printed on the teleprompter for him. And of course, he doesn't do a lot of his own "thinking" about his role as our leader. He just makes stuff up as he goes along...the very definition of an incompetent leader!
If my memory serves me, Trump got rid of Bolton during the Ukraine Fiasco because he didn't want to black-mail a foreign country to interfere in a US election.
40:48 Thank you for coming out and being so candid with us about your time on his staff. It is very important that the public be educated about this, that we might be an informed electorate. I think that there is only one minor yet detrimental flaw in your analysis Mr. Bolton, He does have a very simple and dangerous philosophy. And that is to be the "winner" in the zero sum game of life, to gain and maintain money and power at all costs, with no compunction about destroying anything in the process, including our democracy and our very lives. And like every other narcissistic dictator, every decision he makes is literally based on that underlying philosophy. I think you meant, and in fact you did say, that he has no complex analytical abilities as it applies to a foreign strategy, but I believe that you might agree that that is quite different from having no philosophy. Sorry for seeming pedantic, but that does change our understanding of just how dangerous this man is. Sorry to piss on your "one silver lining". However, the more I hear you talk, the more faith I have that our country was on the right track before Trump.
I don't really like Bolton but always find him interesting to listen to. I like that he was honest at 42:16 in saying he would have probably gone along on the march then regretted it.

@GunslingerXXI I seriously doubt Bolton "want's back in." In these cases, I try and triangulate sources. Rex Tillerson called Trump "... a f87k1ng moron." Almost all of his previous chiefs of staff have come out saying, basically, he's incompetent. I think Trump is an idiot. He's a bully and a criminal. I think the evidence is pretty overwhelming after the past 4 years. I'm not here to change your mind. It's not a stretch for me to believe Bolton is telling the truth. Trump is fat, lazy, impulsive, thin skinned, and poorly prepared. The White House is no place for a guy like that. Also, you really are a fool, if you think Trump is smarter than his intelligence experts. That is seriously dangerous rhetoric.
@GunslingerXXI Where would you like to start?
@GunslingerXXI I'm doing some research on the 4 "accomplishments" you listed. But I found this posted as I was looking...
"“ElroyMcDuff”
""The "billionaire" who hides his taxes.
The "genius" who hides his college grades.
The "business man" who bankrupted a casino.

The "patriot" who dodged the draft.
The "innocent man" who refuses to testify and fires people who are investigating him.

Just unfit for the job, period. So dangerous.
So careless, so wasteful, so expensive.
His only legacy will be the massive contribution to the national debt.
Here's the good news: if it's illegal to take emoluments, it's probably illegal to keep them. Trump may go on the history books for the largest fine ever paid.

How is he a war criminal?
It never mattered. The republican majority senate didn't even want to hear witnesses. They had already decided to do nothing.
All I see when John Bolton speaks is a man who could have saved America from The Donald a few times by actually testifying and speaking out before his book was released. If he felt so strongly about Trump's incompetence, he should have spoken up when it mattered. He's a self-serving opportunist - period.

I'm guessing the reason we got "Giggles the intern" as the interviewer is because no one else at PBS could stand speaking to John Bolton for more than a few moments

His policies or ambitions dont discredit his information regarding Trump.
John Bolton basically described Trump as insane within the first couple of minutes.
“Sort of like a one-note piano concert”, lmao!
Profound honesty-thank you, sir. Can we have another!
Even condemnation comes off as too soft. "Monstrous anti-human" is really the most succinct, non-sweary description.
If possible, we need to strengthen our own courage to get through this.

It's funny how Bolton without any hesitation states the policy of overthrowing a foreign government.
It's absolutely fair game in war. No such thing as morality in state to state conflicts.
No war has been declared. What Bolton did right there is considered a crime. But then the US has been a rogue nation for years breaking every international law on the books. But you don't care about international laws do you?
@@christopherdennis4280 I have no respect for international law. It's an artificial reality set up by the American/British Empire after WW2. And wars do not necessarily start by formal declarations; look at the economic and informational war between US vs China or Russia.
@@VermHat well, the victors of WW2 established the laws you disparage...the US is a signatory to those laws it helped draft at the Nuremberg trials...but yes, a hegemonic power has no need to heed even it's own laws...remember what you say if there comes a time the US picks a war against an adversary it likely could lose
@@christopherdennis4280 There's no need, especially when other hostile state actors won't as well for their advantage, that's the problem. Look at the South China Sea conflict.
Also, the US currently has such an economic, military, geographic advantage, it won't be conquered militarily by any state for the foreseeable decades; even if we have an incompetent government.

I wish John Bolton would have stood up for America and testify in Congress - now he is lining his pocket and granting interviews - I would say unpatriotic if you asked me.
@Thomas Headley didnt look to hard did Bolton?
In other words, to paraphrase for Bolton, the current president is just not up for the job. He's just not smart enough. "He's very uneducated in world history." "... Donald Trump never seemed very interested in learning."
Being able to truly listen is such an under appreciated skill. You have to listen to, and trust, your advisors, especially at that level. Even if the idea is not so good, at least they will own it and take the time to make it work or turn it into a positive. Sometimes leadership is more about empowering and supporting your team, than trying to do everything yourself or making the focus about you (or your ideas) in a sermon-like fashion.
Why in the hell are we listening to "John I need a war Bolton"?
Hope youre not a trump supporter. Cause if so you shouldnt be making this statement

I'm no fan of Bolton either, but he was in the room and has direct knowledge.
Well in this case we liberals apply the age old wisdom "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". It's led to us associating with Neo Cons, Neo Nazis, hell even genocidal dictators. If we get that orange man out of office, it'll definitely be worth it. I'll shut my mouth about Uyghur Muslim internment in an instant if I can hang with my favorite comrade Xi JinPing and work on overthrowing Trump and that racist, sexist, capitalist system that's oppressing us all. Maybe then we can get ourselves some of that sweet sweet Communism with Chinese Characteristics and get a basic mask order enforced. In China these anti-maskers would probably have had their organs harvested by now, we can't even get them arrested.

My god, this is illuminating. His comments about Trumps view on relationships (32:00) with foreign leaders is so troubling. He sees no value in allegiance to the democratic ideas and values we represent, he only sees value in himself doing well. Wow, that’s a terrible place for us to be.
Where was his frank assessment and no-nonsense candor when it mattered? When he could have testified after Lt. Col. Vindman and supported the truth of what really happened.

What happened Bolton? Trump didn’t want to pay for your war? 🙄
I don't think you understand what a dictator is... Ask some Cubans or Saudis or African expats.
