Not going to happen. The 1% have decided they aren't going to pay any more tax and they have the press and the political parties all put together so that even the idea won't be examined. Labour came in and need to desperately find money after 15 years of Tory mismanagement. Who has lots of money after billionaires and corporations have been scoring record profits since the pandemic? It's of course, pensioners and those on sickness benefit!!! Neither party will even mention taxing the rich. The entire system is rigged and bought.

In the US , from World War Two until 1964, the tax rate on the wealthy was 91% of every dollar earned above $400,000. The Republicans and Democrats lowered the tax rate to 77% and by 1980 the top tax rate was 70%. Then Ronald Reagan and the Democrat majorities in the US Senate and US House of Representatives cut the top tax rate from 70% to 35%. A 50% tax cut on the rich. Under the Presidency of George H. W. Bush between 1989 and 1993 the top rate was 28.5% which is what the tax rate was in the 1920's during the days of the "Rober Barons." it was only after the Great Depression that President Franklin D. Roosevelt that the top tax was raised to 91% in order to pay for World War II and under President Dwight Eisenhower the high tax rate helped pay for all the Interstate highways that were constructed during the 1950's. With Reagan and the deregulations, especially the financial markets (Wall Street) the middle class wages remained stagnant while the rich got richer and richer. That's how most of the voting public in the USA have voted to keep the tax rates on the rich very low, if not paying NO taxes!

The old idea was that if you worked hard you could make something of your life. Buy a house and build a family. It was hard but achievable. Now companies use time and motion studies or kpi's are known these days to squeeze every bit of blood from their employees. Gone are overtime rates of triple or double time. 8 hour shifts are gone replaced with 10 and 12 hour shifts which are more suited for employers but which make it more difficult to have a decent personal or family life. Its a complex process with many moving parts but its all going in favour of the rich with capital which is the only way to increase wealth now and increasingly in the future.

Within two weeks massive bank accounts had been locked up, trade stopped, Russia in shock despite having prepared for it to happen eventually. No it wasn't perfect, but it was a massive economic strike and at a frightening speed and scale.

The tighter integration of large money transfers and world markets has made this sort of threat have real and tangible meaning.
