      @user-il4ul5js3v  8 месяцев назад +16

      @@dataman95 I wouldn't say it's crappy, it's just not as good metallica treats it. They drag this melody for like 2 mins without any extra development and the solo after it really doesn't fix anything like in fade to black where the solo after the harmony is absolutely amazing. Maybe if introduced a new melody during the harmony or idk kept harmonising the fuck out of the tracks, it would've been better. Maybe as a main riff, it could work but not as an "epic" war pigs outro wannabe. Take spit out the bone for example, the reason why it's so great is because A) the build up is actually good B) the melody is fucking epic as hell, C) it doesn't drag on endlessly d) the stop breathing part after that makes it even sweeter. Take suicide and redemption as well. It doesn't repeat the same melody over and over again(the really major sounding one), it develops into a new melodic harmony. That's the difference. Also we have dream no more which although not thaaat great but still has a decent build up at least and melody is good.

    • @rubemortenson1724
      @rubemortenson1724 7 месяцев назад +4

      I feel like maybe you don't know what harmony means. The two specific spots you mentioned don't have a harmonized section. Harmony is when there is a lead guitar melody and two or more layered parts playing in major thirds or minor thirds or whatever the interval might be. The parts "harmonize" with each other. You're just talking about a couple riffs.

    • @ktgo4424
      @ktgo4424 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@rubemortenson1724 perhaps not. I took harmony to be when both guitars are playing the same melody, but not a riff. I'm not a music guy, so I'm just going off of what I have picked up. So, what would you call those sections, then? They aren't riffs, they aren't solos. I mean, in MOP, it's pretty obvious, but they are doing essentially the same thing, playing the same melody with each other, as they do on RTL section I mentioned, just not as fast.

We can all argue over what should be number 1 or what's missing from the top 10 (and I think you're a bit harsh on the last 2 albums, esp Hardwired). But, there's so much shit written about good and bad metal, esp about Metallica, without any insights, analysis or original thought offered (just copy and paste 'I stopped listening after the black album'). You've done the work, pulled this together and put your considered thoughts about the merits or otherwise of a stack of awesome music. Chapeau!

    Some that I disagree(mainly just no.45 and no.41) but Lords of Summer, there's a reason why I love the garage demo a whole lot more and it's because they really extend that melody and harmony to the max, and it sounds beefier. Overall great list man.

    I love the credit you give to cliff because it’s exactly what he deserves. The things I and many other people think to like about metallica‘s music, we actually like about Cliff‘s music. And that’s no shame to metallica‘s music. I hear no band more than them but cliff was just above anybody else

    Spit Out the Bone is my top contender for best Metallica song. Fast, INSANE instrumentals and vocals, really good message, and the best part: that harmony. Hardwired might have been just okay in some aspects, but Spit Out the Bone is the shining star of that album.

    Great video! Maybe you could try and find some Metallica like font and also place your text (not the song title) in the center (and make it a little bigger). It's a valid list imo
