They drag this melody for like 2 mins without any extra development and the solo after it really doesn't fix anything like in fade to black where the solo after the harmony is absolutely amazing. Maybe if introduced a new melody during the harmony or idk kept harmonising the fuck out of the tracks, it would've been better. Maybe as a main riff, it could work but not as an "epic" war pigs outro wannabe. Take spit out the bone for example, the reason why it's so great is because A) the build up is actually good B) the melody is fucking epic as hell, C) it doesn't drag on endlessly d) the stop breathing part after that makes it even sweeter. Take suicide and redemption as well. It doesn't repeat the same melody over and over again(the really major sounding one), it develops into a new melodic harmony. That's the difference. Also we have dream no more which although not thaaat great but still has a decent build up at least and melody is good.

2 Huge misses for me....Leper Messiah. After the solo, wow, that is so groovy, great harmony with Lars double-kick in the background. And then Ride the Lightning, right after Kirk's epic solo is a pretty sweet harmony section. It's pretty basic, but fast as hell and sounds awesome in the context of the song.
I feel like maybe you don't know what harmony means. The two specific spots you mentioned don't have a harmonized section. Harmony is when there is a lead guitar melody and two or more layered parts playing in major thirds or minor thirds or whatever the interval might be. The parts "harmonize" with each other. You're just talking about a couple riffs.

Blackened Intro is #1 for me. It was the first song I ever really heard from Metallica after I bought AJFA from Rasputins in 7th grade. I vividly remember sitting at my dining room table for whatever reason and putting my cd in and just getting blown away.

But, there's so much shit written about good and bad metal, esp about Metallica, without any insights, analysis or original thought offered (just copy and paste 'I stopped listening after the black album'). Some that I disagree(mainly just no.45 and no.41) but Lords of Summer, there's a reason why I love the garage demo a whole lot more and it's because they really extend that melody and harmony to the max, and it sounds beefier. Overall great list man.

Spit Out the Bone is my top contender for best Metallica song. Fast, INSANE instrumentals and vocals, really good message, and the best part: that harmony. Hardwired might have been just okay in some aspects, but Spit Out the Bone is the shining star of that album.
