i've noticed that when playing solos, kirk tends to use the bridge pickup while james likes using the neck pickup (at least on recordings), and i like how this gives both of them their own distinct sound.
I'm a neck pickup guy myself. I feel like the neck pickup just blends better with what's going on around it, and that works for James's solos which are generally more melodic. With Kirk you can tell he really wants his solos to cut through the accompaniment a bit more. It works.
@@DeanOMiite I agree, the neck pickup does sound more melodic. I think To Live is to Die is a great example of when the neck pickup works really well within the context of a song. I usually prefer the bridge pickup as I think you can get more personality out of your guitar when it comes to tone. That's one of the things that makes Kirk's solos great, is the amount of personality they have, and the unique range of sounds.
You missed an “Orion” solo, all the solos in “Whiskey in the Jar”, and though it’s unconfirmed, he’s definitely playing the harmony solo on “Inamorata”.
the harmony was written by james, and is played by both of them. do y'all not understand how a harmony works? it takes two instruments to make one harmony.

I know you wouldn't wanna make another remake but he also played the solo on their cover of ecstasy of gold (at least he did live) and the unused solo from wasting my hate demo
I dont understand the hate for load and reload. You take metallica. Make them a blues, rock and roll, jazz, alternative, metal band. You get laod and reload. I personally really like thse albums
The problem of load and reload is a lot of filler songs. Some songs like poor twisted me or slither can be deleted and no one would cry. Also there is material for 3 albums of 9 songs in 2 albums. I love load and reload but that is the biggest problem in my opinion.
Theyre too long with a lot of unnecessary tracks. Also it can be a drag listening to an album like Load where the first half is 10x better than the back half
I agree both those albums have a lot of bangers. Thorn within, bleeding me, house that Jack built, outlaw torn, better than you, low man’s lyric, and so many others
I don't think they have more feeling, James just doesn't get to do them as much so when he does it's special. Kirk has plenty of solos with "feeling" he just also has plenty of shredding solos too.
I’m a really big fan of Load and Reload. But if I had to rank the solos from those two albums by James it’d be 4. Thorn Within 3. 2x4 2. Carpe Diem Baby 1. The Outlaw Torn Well, all the solos by James are always nice because he knows how to lay down a good controlled solo
Yeah it is and Kirk did not right the solo. Are you fuckin high? Where are you getting your info. Why would he write the solo and James play it live everytime. Come on!!
You can tell which are his. He always has had a Bluesy influence in his solos. Kirks are good and all, but you can tell he's just trying to make it sound Metal, James doesn't care about his solos sonically, just as long as it has a soul and emotion in it.
Me van a querer matar por esto pero me gustan más los solos de Hetfield, son cantables y expresan un montón con poco y se le nota la influencia del NWBHM en la forma de armonizar. Gran banda Metallica
The 2 guitars jamming together after the chorus. Is yet again a product of Cliff writing and teachings. They work SO great and brings such dynamic. Nowadays i don't hear that. Haven't listened to M since St: Anger. So much shitty song and bad playing. Who are they trying to be out do? Reaching out to pop music? Grasping for a least breath as lying in last struggle before death?😅
I regret to inform that you are just completely wrong. Load/Reload are hard tracked, the solo in THTJB is tracked to the left ear which james chose up until death magnetic, It was James.
It would be interesting to see what would happen if Dave was back in the band and both he and James traded lead and rhythm guitar roles and singing roles. I think it’d be awesome.
Calling something lame because of being not a super heavy song. Yeah, we saw you "metalhead", we already know you don't like Load, no need to make us remember each 5 minutes about your bad taste.

My Friend of Misery was a combination of James's guitar solo and Bob Rock's (I guess) Synthesizer before Kirk's part .
No. Kirk used a volume pedal

I still think James had the best solos. They're so rich and feel so emotional.
Wish James would do more solos
He has (or at least had) a great musical talent. The guy learned piano as a kid, that helps a lot to understand music theory, etc.
His solos are so melodic
Are you sure about 2x4? That's awesome if true. Always thought it sounded very bluesy but just assumed it was Kirk.
The first part is James, the other part starting with a wah its Kirk
