    For fuck sake man... The way you're talking about Notion makes me want to go nuts (in a good way). You know what it reminds me of ? I was in a video call today with a polish director to invite him to join our creatives collective, of our production company, and he told me this :
    "When I'm hired to direct cars commercials, I'm not just thinking in terms of an "object to be filmed", I want to attach emotion to it, feelings, a story."
    When looking at his work, you can indeed sense that the way these cars are filmed isn't just normal, there's a passion, a drive, a curiosity, an almost unreal feeling, something deeper than just seeing an object moving...
    And well August, when I hear you speak about Notion, I get the same feeling. I see that you got the same feeling. You understood and sensed that Notion is much more than "just a software". I've actually started using it thanks to you, discovering your videos a few years ago. I've never really stopped, though I've had months where I didn't use it.
    I agree with you that the community has somehow "left" Notion down. Some people saw that it was gaining traction and momentum, being a "high views and engagement" type-of-content. So they jumped in. But it wasn't really for the deeper reasons... The passion... The curiosity... Or maybe it was, but just a tiny bit, and then, as you said, it quickly faded away.
    Even today, when I search for new Notion videos on RUclips, I see that majority of what is recommended is from 1-3 years ago. Only a few recent videos pop up but they are far from what you did with the PPV system.
    I'm happy that individuals such as you exist and take the time and effort to put so much value out there regarding a software.
    You don't "just" make me want to use Notion. You make me want to use it as part of a general improvement of my life. It's not just about Notion, it's a lifestyle, it's a momentum, a way of thinking, of organizing one's life, thoughts, etc...
    Thank you August.

      Adrien, your message is so beautifully written - thank you for sharing that. It really means a lot to me the way you've articulated all those ideas. And I love the way that the film director with your collective views his work as well. I'm not sure if you know, but I used to be a TV commercial director myself. So I can relate to that.
      New videos coming soon, then next ones will be a bit more technical and hands-on. Then we'll get to some big concepts after that. I have so many ideas I'm excited to share, lots more to come. I'm really excited that you're on board with all this and I greatly appreciate your support. Thank you!

Fortunately Im looking for progress, not perfection and I learned from you to be patient with my self and to understand the the long term goal, the identity level, the systemic thinking and the PPV LifeOS approach... Kudos for you and you new @createandbuild channel...

It takes time, and it takes forgiveness of yourself along the way to get there. I can tell you already have a great perspective and framework. Keep up the awesome work!

    Do you think personal user satisfaction might be why the community might be less engaged? I wasn't extremely active in the community before, but I'm really not at all (except for your videos) since I finished my life OS. I'm constantly refining it as life circumstances change, but because I'm a highly satisfied user, I don't feel a significant need to be digging into the community to find ideas and fixes.
    The idea of an AI assistant that can simulate past and future selves would be a lifechanger, though -- I'm neurodivergent and have very little longterm memory, and often struggle to remember what I used to think or feel, or to envision the future, and that kind of AI could be everything.

    • @augustbradley

      Interesting thoughts. Perhaps many of us just became busy and effective with the systems we built for our lives, and we're occupied with building our lives rather than discussing the tools. Fair enough! To the extent that this is the case, I think it's great. That would be the ideal scenario.
      And I agree, this new era could be particularly beneficial for neurodivergent people. Thanks for sharing these thoughts!

    I've always searched for the path towards organizing my life in a way that is efficient and constantly self optimizing, So much luck came into running into one of Thomas Franks' notion videos helping see some of the potential of notion and teaching how to work with it and its functions, But on this day Mr. Bradley you have brought tears to my eyes and rekindle much spark as I am losing momentum as I complete more and more of my system, trying to make it align well. What you talk about now if just a little of what I saw out of what could be accomplished. Your channel is a godsend for me. thank you for doing what you do, much respect and don't stop.

    This script took you years August. The level of your deep dive into the past and seeing all possibilities for Notion and the evolution of software and our (new) ways of thinking, only shows how much you've invested in the past. Collecting knowledge, working in so many different fields, it seems like you always see a level deeper than the .. rest of us, well in any case deeper than myself. Your thoughts in this video are so inspiring but also revealing the current state of the Notion community. Whoever goes to the X - Community/Notion, will see an endless flow of similar posts offering templates, templates, free for "Like, Follow and Retweet" in any combination, I'm so tired of it. Yes, this comes from someone who's been supporting template creators in the beginning and I don't dare checking my Gumroad Dashboard ... just to see the number of things I paid for and never used. I did get some inspiration for my own builds but ended up doing .. my own stuff anyway.
    Looking forward to your continuing videos/posts about Notion!

    What would you say on the speed of Notion and the complex switching between accounts regarding the common objections I hear and have faced too.

    • @augustbradley
      @augustbradley  2 месяца назад +1

      I find that the slower loading time or slower access to something in my Notion workspace is more than compensated by the benefits of its interconnectivity to the rest of the workspace or system, and the deep structured organization of each element to each other. So while it might take a few more seconds to open something and get to the page I want, or to link it to my Knowledge Vault, every time I open a topic in my Knowledge Vault or a project or a habit I'm designing, or something that I'm creating - everything else in the system relevant to it is right there waiting for me. Moreover, reminding me of its existence. In many cases, I otherwise would have forgotten. This all makes my creation process, thinking process, and efforts in life move faster in the end and turn out better.
      I don't find switching between accounts to be difficult. You just go to the upper left, pick a different workspace. If you mean switching to a different account with a different email, then if you log in with both and you'll remain logged in with both - only on rare occasions have to log in again. So I personally don't see a problem there. However, I may not be understanding the specific issue you're pointing out.

    August, is there a way to purchase PPV for teams? My team is desperate for a solution and I have been telling them 'soon' since November, hoping to have the chance to purchase your courses but they haven't been available.

    • @augustbradley
      @augustbradley  Месяц назад

      The plan is to first release a basics course, followed by two new variations/levels of the PPV program over the next few months - and then the Teams program by the end of the year (building a Teams system takes a massive amount of testing, which we have been doing for years now). The priority is on quality and thoughtful, intentional design rather than rushing things. It will be well worth the wait, I'm incredibly excited about they shape they are all taking. Nothing like this has existed in the Notion ecosystem or anywhere else that I'm aware of.
      Sorry for the delays, but this is deep work that just takes time to get right.

    As an answer to your question in the beginning of the video, kindly note that, somewhere along the line, Notion executives decided to prioritize the corporate customers and features to be able to get the money that the investors put in and left the passionate individuals alone without ever listening to them. I am an average Notion user myself for about two years and can see all these discussions on Reddit; none of the simple requests of sincere Notion loving users have been met but money has been poured on long time Cron integration and business oriented Slack like integrations or the popular AI integration, of course with extra subscription fee; a Notion offline request is waiting in the air for ages, like Obsidian; or better and richer import / export settings; a faster UI etc. For most of us now, Notion is just like Microsoft, Google or Apple, another big software company with their own agenda.

    • @augustbradley
      @augustbradley  2 месяца назад +1

      I hear your frustrations on many of those items. Though I do think that Notion has done a lot for individual users, they've implemented a lot of our requests. The problem with Notion feature-progress is it's such a broad platform with just a crazy wide range of use cases that the range of feature requests they get is broader and more varied than any other software platform. As a result, it's very hard to serve everybody.
      The calendar integration itself is just as valuable for individual users as for teams or businesses, perhaps even better. So it really is a mixed bag. But on some accounts, you're certainly right. The offline mode issue is just a particularly difficult one from a technical standpoint. Because there's so much functionality that's dependent on the cloud servers and cloud access, that to provide this functionality, offline is just a daunting technological challenge.
      Notion's price is shockingly low for what it offers. The free plan alone is just unparalleled in the value offered for free. The paid plans start at very low rates but provide a ton of capability. I don't know any other software that offers this much value at free or low prices - aside from Google, which then mines your data and violates your privacy at every turn. Notion does not do this.
      I'm optimistic that some of these apps in the broader ecosystem they're rolling out will solve offline access for the most important functionality with our systems. But I really don't think that Notion has abandoned the individual user. I think they're just balancing across the wide range of users. But that definitely leaves some of our most important requests still needing to be addressed. Thanks for your feedback. Good thoughts!

    Hi August. Welcome back. We missed you.
    I’ve been building my practice on the PPV ideas you outlined previously and it’s been a great organising principle in my life.
    I’m still struggling with Notion though. So many small bugs make it less than perfect in many ways, and would only need small tweaks at their end to resolve. I’m wondering how we can get their attention to resolve these in a productive way.
    I’m also keen to establish a community around PPV. I had presumed that you were developing the new versions and ideas with your paid clients solely, and had private discussion groups only. There was an attempt to create a PPV reddit group separate from the r/Notion group - but it’s not received much interest it seems. I’m keen on finding somewhere and contributing in support of your work. It would be good to know what your support for that would be.

    • @augustbradley
      @augustbradley  Месяц назад

      Thank you Josef, I greatly appreciate your support. There are bugs, but Notion is hard at work on them and has a big team tightening and improving constantly. So I do feel when we identify bugs, they do get resolved, though sometimes it takes longer than we wish.
      Our programs and communities are being re-imagined and will relaunch in a very different form at more accessible price points. So we are working on a solution to this. At this point, we're a few months away. Thanks for your interest! Onward 🚀

    The community disappeared? No, you disappeared in order to monetize. I get it of course! I used to watch every video that you put out, and indeed Notion changed my life. You priced me out of your audience, but I’m here for the new series. Much respect to you August.

      I was quiet for health reasons as I explained in a previous video. I haven't released a product in a year and a half. Haven't had anything for sale for a long time. But monetization is necessary to continue doing what I do here on RUclips. The vast majority of my work has always been free, nobody was ever priced out of my work.
      I don't see strong central gathering places now. When I ask others, they say the same. Where do you see strong central community spaces?

      @@augustbradley Nobody was ever priced out of your work? There's multiple people including myself that were. We appreciate your work but people WERE and REMAIN priced out.

      @@jackinthebox6876 Over 90% of my work is free on RUclips, Newsletter, X, Linkedin, etc... Nobody was priced out of the vast majority of my work (because there is no price charged for the vast majority of my work). The paid program is an extended exploration of the same concepts. And without the paid programs, I would not have been able to continue these free channels so long and to be able to return to it now.

      @@augustbradley What you've said just backs up my point further. 90% of your work was free. 10% wasn't. So 10% of your work or whatever figure you want to come up with is then hid behind a paywall which means people were priced out of your work. Doesn't matter if it's a small proportion of the people, it's simply the concept that people WERE and REMAIN priced out. It's a fact.

    notion is buggy and it interferes/interupts with daily workflow. Notion AI questions totally ignores tags and misses the mark on incorporating the PPV system.

    In my opinion, Notion is trying to integrate the aesthetic appeal of Apple with the functionality of microsoft, and is looking to be a real competitor. They slowly roll out features, so that people can catch up and understand customization and systems. It’s a powerful brand.

      That's an interesting analogy, but I can see aspects of both of those tools in different ways in Notion. Good thought. What they're trying to do is difficult, but they seem to be succeeding in a lot of ways. Very interesting to see how this will evolve over time!

    The more money Notion wants for new features the less need in using it I feel

      Though it's amazing how much they offer for free. And the lower-priced plans are very low-priced. It's really the best value in SaaS software I've ever seen.
