How to Set Up With A Tree Saddle: Everything you need to know to set up at hunting height

  • In this video I go over how to set up and use a tree saddle at hunting height. I go over the gear that I choose and why. I answer questions like "why do I sit instead of lean?", "how do I shoot 360 degrees?", "why do I use kneepads instead of a cushion?", "why do I use 3 bow hangers", and "how do I shoot a rifle from a saddle?".

    I used this blind for deer hunting this season ruclips.net/user/postUgkxvlQxmcZQzSQSYbJsEgAGvG2DaduKTV99 and will use it again for turkey this coming April 19'. The only common sense thing I recommend is wear all black to cover your upper body considering the inside of the blind is black and dont open unnecessary windows to silhouette yourself. Other then that, spray some water proof spray on the seams and roof. Dont forget your comfy chair, happy hunting.

    I hear ya Bro. due to my weight and leg fatigue, I spent about 80% of the time in the seated position this last year season. Got my hands on a Beast Stand and will be saddle hunting out of a stand. Should be able to stay in the woods longer this year using the stand to sit for a longer time. Pretty excited about this year. Thanks for the videos.

    Hey man, really appreciate the in depth reviews you have done thus far with this channel. The detail of the content you are creating is awesome to say the least, and has helped me a ton with getting my saddle set up this season. First season with the saddle, running H2 slingshot, trophyline mission platform, skeletors and at the moment using the trophyline knee pads. I was curious to know what you think are the most comfortable knee pads for a sitter like myself. The trophyline are pretty money but wanted to know if you have tried others. Would greatly appreciate the feedback and thanks again for putting this content on the web to help inform people joining the saddle gang!!! Never going back to another hunting style, the shooting position the saddle allows you to have is unmatched.

    I made several setups last March in different spots where I get up in a very busy 🌳 that is about the opposite of that pine u demonstrated on. As an analogy I use 🌳 like Bill Belichick uses the NFL rules book to get an advantage. I leave 1 WEI Stepp up in the preset tree with some paracord. The paracord is so I don't need to use sticks to climb. These r the types of trees that aren't friendly to a ladder, hang on or climbing stand. In fact it wouldn't be worth the effort. Usually have 2 large branches to go along with the WEI Stepp. Sometimes I bring the WEI Embattlement with me to put up in the right setup but I can see why u do use all the bow & tree attachments. To get the same advantage as Belichick.

    I have watched and enjoyed many of your videos in the past year and a half (during which I got interested in and have been saddle hunting). I am surprised to see you reverting to a harness and a saddle (two separate attachment methods). This (harness separate from tree saddle) is what people used to do when they were converting sit drags into tree saddle. I have three different manufactures saddles (that I alternate between) and all of them provide both the saddle and the harness functionality. Why do you use both a harness and a saddle?

    • @SaddleHunter
      @SaddleHunter  Год назад +4

      I’ve appreciated your support Cary. So the Drey doesn’t have built in life support (ie straps). So it needs to be paired with a load rated harness to be totally safe and to have lineman loop functionality. You are right that in function it’s exactly like the old sit drag/RCH days. I’ve owned 34 saddles and the comfort of the Drey is so much better than everything else that I make that sacrifice. It’s very similar to the DIY fleece saddles.

  • @natecarter5

    Just wondering if the mini drey would work well for one sticking and rappelling down out of the tree. I also sit 75% of the time and would love to give the mini drey a try. Cant give up the one stick method though. I hate carrying anything more than my catalyst ion one stick in the woods. No interest in returning to lugging a bunch of sticks around to climb up trees.

  • @pbbananas

    How does the hammock /fleece style like the mini Dre compare in sitting comfort to a two panel like the ESS? I’m wanting to pair one of these two types of saddles with a ring of steps for long sits during the rut… I prefer a Lwcg .5 for shorter sits, so comfort over a long stretch of time is the goal.

      @@SaddleHunter I wish the elastic strap keepers weren't sewn to the bottom straps. I was thinking of cutting the strap keepers so I could take off the buckles. Then I'd add triglides and put the buckles back on. The triglides could butt up against the buckles so they couldn't move. I haven't thought of anything for the platform yet but my predator xl doesn't really move, the straps just aren't very tight. I can probably live with it, really. But I imagine the regular predator is much looser fitting. I'm sure there's a simple fix. I'll let you know if I run across anything worth sharing. Good luck!

I’ve mobile hunted for years and this is by far the fastest and lightest way to mobile hunt. I carried a millennium ultra light lock on for years and at only 8 pounds, then another 6 for sticks it gets heavy quick. I’m so much faster with a saddle and my weight is total around 4 lbs now once you practice it a few times it can’t be beat.
