Good video. Great timing. I'm just getting things together to (hopefully) try this type of hunting this season. Thanks to all you guys and to the Tethrd boys, too.
I am a tree climber by trade and my impression of this equipment as well as technique is that it is sketchy at best. For example, the leg straps on the saddle the just slide into the loops without any closure would absolutely never be used by an arborist. At 5:12 you are describing what we call spur climbing a tree, in which we use a flipline/lanyard like you have, and spurs on our feet to spike up the tree. I would love to see you use this technique without spurs. Also, the Prusik knot that you guys all agree "sucks" (okay sure mechanical ascension is easier) is just one type of friction hitch to serve that purpose, and is often not the best solution. Don't get me wrong, if this system works for you and the security of the equipment doesn't scare you, more power to you. All I can say is that no arborist I know would feel comfortable with this gear.
I noticed that also and thought, that's not safe! I work for the power company and am familiar with safe fall protection. Maybe I'm wrong but I think the leg straps need to be better connected than just slide into a slot! At least, for me to use it!
I'm a tree climber as well and do alot of tree work as a side business! I 100@% agree with everything you said, The use of a Ropeman 1 that a lot of saddle hunters are using as a main life support attachment makes me shake my head!

I always thought the saddle was a self climbing system like a climber stand. If you have to put up pegs or a ladder of some sort anyways I guess I struggle to see what the big benefit would be over a climber or even just a hanging stand with a good safety harness.
I'm no expert but I believe the big advantage is the system is compact and light weight to get in the deep in the woods without carrying a bunch of extra weight. Plus there is versatility to hop from depot to spot each day with minimal hassel.

No more expensive then a quality mobile tree stand setup. I am not traditionally a mobile setup guy. I tend to have multiple preying stands on private land, however, they wear out and need replacing which can cost hundreds every several years. Just switched to the saddle and it now replaces all of those tree stands.
I understand the concept, especially if hunting on public land. But I can have my hang on setup in 20 minutes prior to when I actually want to hunt and climb up in it within 1 min.
Yeah, how many treestands do you want to buy? One saddle Or 10 stands (depending on how many places you have to hunt) Still can’t sit a crooked tree in a hang on easily or efficiently 😉
Biased Harold it’s hunting season, so if they value their fans they’ll get the schedule rolling. You miss the point that they’ve had a schedule each year then this year two 1/2 hearted hunts and then throw a month old gear video at us. Meanwhile Shane Simpson and diy are getting it done.
Working on videos nonstop. We had this edited and decided to post it because we have had a lot of questions about tree saddles. New video will be up tonight!
3,000? You could have this whole set up for the three of you for 1500. I think it’s like 450 if you get the entire set up with the platform. Say 600 each if you throw in climbing sticks in you’re at 1800.
Some of you guys need to give them a break!!! The struggle is real sometimes in the real hunting world 🤷♂️ Great saddle video. I only wish I knew someone that had one so I can try it.
Damon Garrett come try that in Texas. I knocked on doors, called, and sent letters to a total of more than 300 property owners for a grand total of 0 permission. Texas is a pay to play state, because landowners understand someone in the state would be willing to pay for the access you asked for for free.
Tim Miller yep, $1500 is a VERY low priced lease here in Texas. That’s why I only hunt public. I’d rather hunt all over than share 100 acres with 3 other guys for $1000 a piece!
Working on videos nonstop. We had this edited and decided to post it because we have had a lot of questions about tree saddles. New video will be up tonight!
Very good video. I can appreciate the advantage of "the spin and lock in" move to get that shot which would normally be really tough from the weak side. Tougher to do from my Lone Wolf Alpha 2....especially if at an uncomfortably high shooting position.
If you get a micro pully your capture hitch will work just as the mechanical devices and you have less to worry about breaking because it's all rope and you can inspect them every time you climb
Really appreciate the saddle hunting info. A person like me would end up having something wrong and end up on the ground quicker than shit through a goose! My climber stand is great for me because it’s super simple! And I suck when it comes to change. I’m 41 and have old injuries that are starting to haunt me. Love the content I made a comment earlier didn’t want it to be negative just hoping you all are safe and happy.
I love the mobility of a climber. I prep certain trees before the season. Trim all branches all the way up. Then I put trail eyes all the way back to my entrance.
@@vinnygrass7 I kinda feel like if I was going to go the route of the Aero I would just use my old tree climbing saddle. The Tethered system seems to be a much lighter and easier system to deploy. Everyone has their preferences. I have spent many hours researching through videos and articles. Tethered seems like the way I want try.
I’ve been saddle hunting for quite a while. There are some huge benefits. One thing not mentioned here is that the tree is always hiding you from the coming deer. I use 2 sticks at the hunting height so I can slide around and hide from the deer no matter the direction. These movements can be done so quiet it’s crazy. I would recommend the JX3 if you are worried about all day comfort. You can nap in that thing
Going up the tree is the same process as anything other than a self climb you have a lineman’s belt use it appropriately. The set up once your there is the only thing that changes
Several friends of mine had already switched to a saddle. You won't have to settle for just that one stand that you hung in pre season nor spend time and sweat equity doing so. 2020 I'll be in the saddle. A side note, there are more suppliers of a saddle. Research them and find what fits your style and budget. For me simplicity and efficiency works best.
I agree, as a tree climber myself it is obvious these guys don't know shit about climbing. They have a very most basic understanding about techniques but their information is solid enough. Not any sort of super elite technique but the kind of information that could probably get anyone into a tree without killing themselves.
Looks like a huge pain. I slip in with a small camo stool, Primos monopod shooting stick and hunt from the ground. Super quiet, mobile and effective. Good luck dangling from a tree!

Sorry to hear you're not healthy. Maybe you can saddle hunt like this. I hope so, you didn't say how unhealthy you were. I hope you get better. I hope this will help.ruclips.net/video/gwRQDcez63Y/видео.html
Just purchased the phantom and hawk helium sticks....how do you transport sticks to the field? Carry? Best pack recommendation?
Leave them all home except one and use this method ruclips.net/video/gwRQDcez63Y/видео.html
This is a really cool piece of gear but i think it should be alot more affordable!! It's just way too exspensive
I agree way expensive, and quality same as a drop away , whisker bisq can still do job yeah
No more expensive then a quality mobile tree stand setup. I am not traditionally a mobile setup guy. I tend to have multiple preying stands on private land, however, they wear out and need replacing which can cost hundreds every several years. Just switched to the saddle and it now replaces all of those tree stands.
Yes it is more pricy but u buy this and u will never have to buy another stand again
Cut that pony tail off lol
Trophyline is the least expensive for a tight budget. Comes with a Web bridge, if you want a rope bridge it is a mod you can do.
This was a very helpful video as i am trying Mantis this year. Thanks very much.
I understand the concept, especially if hunting on public land. But I can have my hang on setup in 20 minutes prior to when I actually want to hunt and climb up in it within 1 min.
G and T Outdoors then you’re stuck hunting that spot...
Yeah, how many treestands do you want to buy?
One saddle
Or 10 stands (depending on how many places you have to hunt)
Still can’t sit a crooked tree in a hang on easily or efficiently 😉
That's just one tree. It's about mobility.
Finally a tree saddle video! I’m contemplating getting one!
If you want to order 1 its gonna take 6-10 weeks
Allot of "get to the hunting videos" I like the suspense of a video to drop where you get something. Shoot true, hunting public!
@@shawnhagen6871 by their track record they value their fans lol they wouldn't put up a how to video if no one asked for it. Chill out sport
Okay old man
@@shawnhagen6871 I'm 25 bud
After watching >50
I agree. Im interested but want to try it.
Damon Garrett I only hunt private during prime time. Public is very tough hunting and challenging.
Damon Garrett come try that in Texas. I knocked on doors, called, and sent letters to a total of more than 300 property owners for a grand total of 0 permission. Texas is a pay to play state, because landowners understand someone in the state would be willing to pay for the access you asked for for free.
Isaac Barnett Kansas is just as bad... $1500 is average and up !
Tim Miller yep, $1500 is a VERY low priced lease here in Texas. That’s why I only hunt public. I’d rather hunt all over than share 100 acres with 3 other guys for $1000 a piece!
Just ordered my Tethrd Friday! Can’t wait.
Dang it......I thought this was some ND footage!!!!
Same here man!haha
Me too😭
Same 😂
NC Guy me too. I was so hyped but maybe this means that they shot one
When is Tethrd going to give you guys a discount code? Id like one!
If you get a micro pully your capture hitch will work just as the mechanical devices and you have less to worry about breaking because it's all rope and you can inspect them every time you climb
Thanks for the demo! I can’t wait to get my hands on one! Along with some beast sticks
Mr. Skeptical I love em I’ve taken many naps in mine 😂
I'm 53 overweight and beat up as well. I saddle hunt because it is easier and safer the way I do it. ruclips.net/video/gwRQDcez63Y/видео.html
I would just never see my self wearing all the straps and stuff seems like a big mess
Seriously your loss. Try it... it really is way better.. lighter, more comfortable, more versatile
I can't see myself going back to a climber or lok on.....
Versus having a full harness in a normal stand? It's way less crap hanging off you.
Justin Stauffer I don’t have a harness
@@minkmink410 Well there is your first mistake not wearing some type of harness.
Amazing videos! I just spent $1300 on a full Tethrd setup. I have never been in a tree before in any way.
Thanks for the video! Been looking at Tethered for a couple of weeks. Any way you guys can convince them to do a coupon code?
Do yourself a favor, Go Aero hunter. much much better. And wayyyyy b4 tethrd
grizzle777 with a 10 week lead time...
Tethrd is much better and lighter
@@vinnygrass7 what makes it better?
Show him going up a tree?? Not 3ft off the ground this didn't show anything
Mikhail Kimbel
IMO it showed a lot. But I do agree getting up the tree is the biggest question with this style.
Going up the tree is the same process as anything other than a self climb you have a lineman’s belt use it appropriately. The set up once your there is the only thing that changes
This is the perfect setup to trespass on property and not leave any trace. I'm sold.
I am almost convinced to sell all my stands and hunt this way. Seems a lot quieter than banging a stand around.
Oh it is
This is when I started to want a saddle still trying to get one two + years later.
I’m so impressed with this!
When is the pack and that tree strap going to be for sale on their site?
rich allbritten they said it should be launched this week.
It’s up on the site now
@@johnkastner9224 already ordered this afternoon. Both are gonna come in handy. Hope to get them before next weekend.
Awesome tutorial guys!! Good tips and tricks for those who might be considering the saddle waters.
The DIY guys already have 2 bucks on the ground in ND! You guys better get into the game!
They prob already did they are a business they want max views..they want to keep us wanting more...I guarantee they already got a bruiser. Be patient they'll show it eventually... meanwhile enjoy the content
Damn son get your ass back over to DIY channel before you miss something!
@@dublelung1 I follow diy as well
@Non Typical Used a saddle
Nice article in Game and Fish Midwest you guys did a good job making it in the magazine
What was the name of that gear hanger?
You HYS Hanger. (available from Tethrd or they have posted a DIY video on how to make it for yourself). You read that correct, Tethrd teaching it’s followers how to make a product they sell.
These guys love hunters!!’
I'm not a fan of heights myself but this looks very convenient for going in getting a good tree going straight up and hunting
Any discount codes for Tethrd saddles? Trying to justify..
It’s worth it discount or not. I to the leap last year halfway through season and I sold my climber stand about 2 weeks after… it’s great
@@stuntcsra2252 it's been 4yrs.. 🤣 I got a phantom and used for 2yr but hip pinch was bad, now using a Cruzer XC and it's so much better
Everyone chill they made this from previous questions and bc they are going to be using this a lot, the season just started give them a second it takes a lot to shoot out videos and hunt at the same time!
Any info on diy predator pack straps
Got us! My brother appreciates this particular footage though. Good timing as he is switching to a saddle. Good luck in ND!
I hope this is not a reflection of how things are going on the tour! Hope you guys are safe and hunting
Great video I’m looking forward to saddle hunting most of the time this year
Awesome to finally see these selling in local outdoors stores. $350 base + essential accessories will keep 90% of ppl from trying them though. Seems a bit excessive for what these things are imo
It's a good price. That's super cheap for saddle hunting.
@@JohnDoe-xq8sk "Good price" is a relative term. Youll be around $400 for a comfortable setup....Good for the current saddle market? Debatable. "Good" considering the entire setup consists of about $40-$50 worth of materials? Not in my opinion.
@@NbMW81 then buy the materials and build it yourself. If you wait till black friday even better. That's what I did. Where there's a will theres a way. The Eberhart saddle is unbeatable for price.
@@JohnDoe-xq8sk I did build one, but not everyone has the skill and/or time to do so. My only point was that the greedy pricing by saddle manufacturers keeps prob 90% of people out of them who would otherwise like to give them a try
@@NbMW81 I don't have the spending money for one but I made it work because I made sacrifices. I don't mind the price and it's not a bad thing that it keeps people away. Any nice hang on stand with sticks ect is still going to run a pretty penny but you have the option to buy a cheap one. Supply and demand. Now gas is too expensive and cell phone service, internet. I really don't see the price being bad when all saddle companies tend to have week long back orders ect every fall.
Excellent info. Got my saddle and ready to go
I don't see how this could be any easier then a climber my summit I have it set up to were when I get to the tree I undo a rope put the cables around the tree an climb few minutes I'm set up an ready an it's light to carry
How do you carry the platform, sticks and your camera gear when you are self filming?
I’m looking to get into saddle hunting and want to get a pack that will hold the platform and camera gear (G30 camera, arm & gopros).
When is Part 2 coming out?
Excellent video! Love keeping up with the channel and get excited when new videos pop up.
Duuuudes. Episode 3 come onnnnnnnnnn
Thank you guys for these videos. Answered a ton of questions I had and made me even more excited to start the saddle adventure!!
I'm more confused now than before I started the video. Climber and hang on stands for me
Can you imagine trying to do this in the dark?
@@brianstevens8068 no shit!
Yup Im in a tree in my climber in 3 minutes lol and climbers seem more comfortable to me
I like to hang my pack on basically another tether. I keep a prusik on it with a small carabiner and leave my pack down below my feet. Gives me 360 degree maneuverability.
This video is a month too late! We want hunting videos! Give the people what they want!
Too much redbull?
Shut up
Why don't you make one instead of demanding other people to entertain you
Think of it as 11 months early. Lots of time to practice for next year. Plus, you want hunting videos, I'm very happy watching this stuff.
My Tethrd saddle is showing up this week! Great timing guys!
1 season later how do you like it?
Those tress in the background, I can use a lock-on and be way less visible
I got my Tethrd Mantis ordered last week. Literally cannot wait for it to get here!!! Really hoping it shows before the rut!
