This is a great stand, period! It's lightweight, climbs easy ruclips.net/user/postUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs and feels solid while in the tree. The seat is easy to fold up for climbing and sits comfortably for long days in the woods. The only downside I have is that it might be too comfortable, but I like napping in the tree anyway. This is the second Summit Viper I have owned. The old one is steel making it heavier, but this aluminum version is about 9-10 lbs lighter. I recommend buying a better fall harness as the one included is clunky and not super comfortable. I think it will work fine if you NEED to use it, but there are lots of other more comfortable options out there.
Three seasons ago, at the age of 73, I made a commitment to hunt an entire season from a saddle. My primary reason was for the safety factor. I had been hunting from a hang on stand since 1973 (before they were commercially available). After all of those years, I had that method fine tuned to be as light and efficient as possible. But, at my age I knew falling couldn't be an option even when using a harness. I also knew using a saddle correctly that falling wasn't an option. During that first season I realized that not only was I safer, I also enjoyed all of many benefits that the saddle offers over a traditional stand.

I’m no spring chicken- but I just got a saddle this week - took it 35 feet up with a chainsaw and took the bulk out of an oak tree before I dropped it parallel to my friends house. Never felt safer in my life doing tree work. Super excited to take it on a leisurely hunt.
@@goober698 If you can set a hang on stand you can use a saddle. Im 44 and have been saddle hunting for a few years. I can't hardly stand sitting a traditional stand anymore. I look at the safety while getting up the tree as the biggest benefit. I'm really afraid of heights but I go up 20' in this and feel safe. I looked at them in the early 90s and they were terrible. The phantom is awesome!
Out of all the bow/hunting shows, I tip my hat to y'all. U make the best with what U have. No feed plots involving thousands of dollars, just guys in the woods. Keep up the great work.
For those who don’t see the practicality in a saddle, try one. You might be very surprised. 50 years old and converted to one saddle from about 15 treestands, the safety factor being the driving force. Having used it for a season, I’ve found it far more comfortable due to the ease of shifting to different pressure points and simply love the fact that from any direction, I can put the tree between me and eyes. Blew it last year when captain hat rack appeared on my weak side and picked me off while bringing my bow over the tether to accommodate the shot. I’ll be practicing that dance move all summer long.
I'm about the same age and switched to a saddle last year also. Another plus I experienced was getting into trees that would be impossible with a climber and a huge PITA for a hang-on. Shot angle and controlling movement does require some practice, but this is a new style and like anything new will definitely give it another year!
I'm 51 this year and a making the switch, i just don't see how you can go wrong, easier to pack, lighter to pack, faster to set up, and no doubt it is going to be way more comfortable...
You guys really do make the best hunting content on RUclips. You guys have taught me so much about versatility! I was a set a stand and hunt it guy until I discovered you and learned all new tactics. My success rates and sightings have gone through the roof! You experience the same frustrations I do some times and it’s great to see that it’s just not me! Watching this channel over the years has given me confidence and knowledge that I can apply to my current situation and become easily adaptable! For that, thank you so much!

Great video! Switched over to saddle this January. So far it’s a game changer. Another great tool in the tool box. Can be rather expensive but honestly I like the best of the best gear so it’s always expensive no matter what your buying.
So crazy that last season I was against this system and was so closed minded due to the amount of ropes and adjustments. Now it’s all I want I’m literally ordering from these guys and selling my ladder stands.
Also crazy that thp is in tight with ranch fairy who is literally my go to arrow tuning guy!

I hunt public land only and thanks to you guys I shot a Huge buck on a small piece of public land that I have hunted for over fifteen years and never killed a buck on ever! Watching all your videos and how you guys evolved from treestand hunting to saddle hunting peaked my interest in saddle hunting. I asked for a Tethered Saddle this year for Christmas and I am anticipating getting it so I am looking forward to joining the Tethered Nation. My hunting buddies were telling me when I first mentioned my interest back before our Hunting Trip to Black Kettle National Grasslands in Oklahoma that I was crazy cause "those things look so uncomfortable" but I sure wish I had one while we were there as much as I moved my stand to try and get into range... I might have been more successful had I had the ability to move around a little easier. Needless to say, I am excited to add hunting from a saddle in my hunting bag.
I used a Tethrd saddle last season a half dozen times before it got stollen out of my truck. I went to a JX3 Hybrid and I love it. I had two new ropeman 2's on it. Made me want to PUKE!! WAY more comfortable and it allows me to hang everything that was in my pack around the perimeter and eliminate my pack. The best thing about it is you don't need a perfect three to hang comfortably. I found I was frequently trying to get comfortable in the Tethrd rig. Another great thing about the JX3 is you can completely remove the back support and shoulder straps once you are secure in the tree.
I got my saddle last year and hunted in it all last season and I have loved it!!! I hunt public land in Oklahoma and have lease land in Lousisana and it’s super light to pack in ! this is by far the best investment I have ever bought!
I got a phantom in march and have been practicing climbing and hanging and shooting from it. Tree stands are history for me now. The light weight of my whole setup allows me to bounce around and go wherever i want to. It is not cheap to get set up if you need a climbing system as well,but the buy once cry once saying is true.
One of the best if not the best info video I've ever seen describing saddle hunting. I really want to give this a try since I mostly hunt public land and I like to be mobile. My only hang up is trying to make my decision on which climbing method to use and which saddle to get. I really like the one in the video. It's probably the most expensive but that usually means it comes with everything you need and it's the best 👌
Who says you cant teach an old dog new tricks. I turn 65 this year. Ive always used climbers and lock-on's but I can definitely see the advantage of saddle hunting. I have heard a lot of advice out there concerning comfort and cutting weight from your setup. I find the saddle to be very comfortable and this will be my 1st season using a saddle. I cut 47 pounds of weight from my setup, when I started working out three years ago and lost weight. I would encourage the older guys out there, to get in shape and try a saddle. I plan to retire this year and look forward to mobile hunting, travel, retirement and yes saddle hunting as well. Great content on your channel and looking forward to embracing saddle hunting.
The amount of times I’ve watched this vídeo wanting to try a saddle out would blow minds. I ran into a whole saddle set up for a price I couldn’t pass up, hours of practice in the back yard and on my second saddle sit ever I shot my first saddle deer last night. Thanks THP for opening my eyes to this. It’ll be hard for me to hang lock one again.

I'm gonna get me a set up Just because of the mobility and stealth of the system. I hunt a small tract with stands already out and set up and yes there nice but like Aaron said Your Stuck right there in that spot. And I know we have deer moving on this property that is maybe a few hundred yards away that you never even see.... I want to get in their house
What a great design, simplicity will always sell. I really think these folks have simplified tree work an all around comfort while hunting.
They didn’t simplify the price that’s for damn sure. If you don’t have a platform or sticks you’re dropping $600 for this system. That’s a steep price tag and that doesn’t even include half the accessories he included in his setup. It looks like a great option though but I’ll likely be shopping around for a more budget friendly option. The quality looks great. I’m all for paying for quality but that price tag is pretty steep.
Great video. There's a saddle in my future, just not right this second. 4 climbers, 6 lock on's (with sticks and steps), 2 ladders and 2 ground blinds, I got to thin the herd a little. The mere fact that Mr. Warren Womack endorses them means a lot. I'm pushing 60 and he's already in his 70's. I've been following his adventures for a long time and I assure he is as legit as he is humble. What I like about the saddle more than anything else is you can get in that tree that no other stand will fit and basically hunt in a duck blind 10-12 feet off the ground. That alone for me is enough to warrant a future purchase.
Age 57 6’2” 240 Healthy respect for gravity. I tried it and Iove it. Absolutely no fear of falling using it. Just inspect you gear as if your life depends on it, because it does!

The Hunting Public is an accomplished group of hunters and videographers. I really enjoy when I hear experts like them say 'to each their own'. This shows confidence in their own systems and a realization that some systems work better in certain situations. That is experience talking.

Scored my first bow kill the first year switching to saddle hunting (actually added saddle hunting to my repertoire). 4 years unsuccessfully bow hunting from a treestand, I decided to try saddle hunting for mobility and slipped up into a tree / got into the hot zone of deer activity which I was always just out of range for while in treestand. Ground hunting the area is very difficult, I’m more confident with being above eye level. In addition, I’m super fidgety and saddle hunting was/is ideal. Also, I stayed warmer during the hunt. Plus, able to move into the shade throughout the day while sun shifted over the sky. Takes a bit of practice to be comfortable and to have a method but so worth it. Full disclosure; I rigged up a DIY saddle. Would love to invest in a Tethrd soon tho. I’m interested in climbing methods and possible low baggage/ weight options for those longer hikes in...perhaps there’s already a video on this with THP.
I'm ordering my saddle very soon. I own a climber that is too comfortable. People wonder what that means until you accidentally fall asleep in a prime spot and waste your evening. I think this is gonna give me that balance of comfort and usability. I'm excited for next fall boys.

Just sold me I hate being stuck in one stand or the idea of spending thousands of dollars on multiple stands to hang and maybe have stolen at least the saddle I can climb down and move locations quickly. Thanks this video really helped me make up my mind

I’ve used a saddle for 20 years this year. I love them and I will never use a tree stand again. Any tree you can put a stand in you can put a saddle in plus a million more!!! Last year I was fat as hell and I still had no problem using my saddle. 6’4 320 with my gear. 360 degree of movement says it all....
What saddle and platform do you use? I'm a bigger guy too and am worried about weight capacities, comfort, etc. I really like the idea of a saddle but want something that I know will work for me and not have to worry
I use a trophyline tree saddle. I have two, ones a assault saddle 2.4 lbs and the other is Neoprene style that's 4.6 lbs. Both have a very thick green cargo strap for the linemen belt and Tether strap! Even at over 320 lbs last year with gear and my 6’4frame that I've got up to 300 lbs these days still feel extremely safe at all times climbing up to 30 feet in wet or dry conditions! Btw the platform they are promoting is a waste of time four tree pegs or strap steps allows you to move up to 360 degrees depending on tree size. What I always love about saddle hunting the last 20 plus years is you can use any tree and your always locked in. I've fallow at least 4 times over the year muddy or wet tree step and the linemen belt always saved me!!!

I am sold on the saddle!! Have used it for 2yrs.. I will not use another system.. My climbing system may change as I still experiment with different options.. But it always boils down to.. What is the best way to get in a tree with my tree saddle.. Climbing systems would be a great informative video. Lightest and still safe.

I'm a ground hunter I like going in with my water container binos and weapon. Maybe a stool. Depends if I setup early in the year prior or not. Definitely been thinking about a saddle or sit and climb.
I feel like i can really relate with most of the things you guys have stated. I live in Louisiana and saddle hunt almost exclusively. I am already a little down because we only have 4 weeks left to hunt this year. I hunt public land more than private because of the challenges one faces makes it more rewarding when you do get that buck you have put in so much time to get. I took a while for me to learn the details but I was saddle hunting my first trip out after practicing a couple times in the yard. I was a little apprehensive about the height and just a rope between you and the ground but I got used to it the more i learned to trust my tethrd system. Now i hunt at 20-25 feet with no worries where 2 years ago I would not get above 10 feet because i just wasnt comfortable at first. Now I have a Rambo ebike, phantom tetherd saddle, and skeletor climbing sticks. I load my pull cart to my bike and even 3 or 4 miles away, i can be in a tree hunting in less than an hour. This system is absolutely unbeatable. I know you guys will disagree with this, but i am kinda glad saddle hunting is not as popular because I feel like it is such an advantage that I would not get as many opportunities as i do now if everyone were saddle hunting, haha. This has really and truly changed my hunting entirely. I feel like a kid after Christmas everytime i get my saddle out of my pack. Thanks again Tethrd, for making it easy to find everything i need in one place and top notch quality.
Question for you from a fellow Louisianian from Lafayette. Can you sit in that saddle comfortably for an all day sit? I'm worried about that.. hesitating to try something other than my climber. Hated my lock on.
Zack is the master of spot and stalk. The only other person I have ever seen as good as him on video was a guy named Alan Altizer... He was one of the original guys to do videos. on VHS of course.. saddle is awesome I'm 61 been doing it for a while, and will never change . Keep it up fellas .>>>------->
If anybody here is considering trying out a saddle, and doesn’t know whether or not to pull the trigger, I’m telling you that you need to do it. I understand cost is a factor for some, but think about the fact that you probably own multiple stands and want to buy more and you’ll understand you’re saving money in the long run. I got into a full saddle set up for less than $500 easily, including the whole system, climbing sticks, and a ring of steps. As a public land hunter, it has completely changed the way I am able to hunt, and I can honestly say with 100% certainty that unless I win the lotto and can buy some private land, I will never go back to treestands.
I've only used a Tethrd saddle for one season, I really like it- had lots of fun. Hope I don't piss anyone off, but as a middle aged (55) guy, the movement in a saddle can be something I need to learn to manage better, deer often pick you off even over 20 feet high in pressured areas due to movement required in a saddle. There are situations or tree's that only can be hunted with a saddle, and I love it for that. At heights over 20 feet, its still scary leaning back with that thin amsteel bridge, I found myself keeping the linemans rope around the tree. I still like my lone wolf climber, & prefer to use it. Still this is just one guys opinion, but I feel I'm a pretty average guy & being honest. I plan to still use the saddle, bowhunting legend John Eberhart's book got me to use one, & he's a short athletic guy, I think it's better suited for the smaller hunter. (again, I know some bigger older guys love the saddle). I do recommend anyone who hasn't saddle hunted to add it to their toolbox, it definitely expands opportunities.

So many times on the way to preset stand sites you find hot sign and look around and say “that would be a great spot for a set” with the saddle- you’re wearing your set. Hunt that spot!
I’m a lineman so it’s all very familiar to me. Sometimes we have to use ladders on towers and if you put your safety in the middle it pulls in and will kill your hips. But if you go around the outside of the ladder (in line with hips) it is way more comfortable. Maybe you could use some type of aluminum spreader bar or something
Hey Chris, I was a lineman for Duke for 35 years and did trees as a sideline, then after retiring from Duke do trees only. I use my arborist saddle a lot deer hunting and climb SRT with no sticks or hooks and it's the only way to fly. Plus it's fun rappelling down after the hunt's over.
I like the saddles but I don’t want to lose sight of how awesome the ghillie suits are. Please keep it an even mix

@@TheInvisibleOne1026 not at all, haven't hunted out of a tree stand once this year, definitely enjoy the saddle. I haven't killed anything yet but that is just because I'm a bow hunting novice. The saddle is very versatile, and surprisingly comfortable in my opinion

Love my summit climber but I can't go up a tree with branches.
It doesn't want to bite into hard barked trees. It's big and not comfortable to carry for a few miles.
Now I can throw my saddle, sticks, platform and hunting suit into my Kifaru pack and comfortably go in miles if necessary. Now I have so many more tree options allowing me to get exactly where I want.
With all the the things you have to do, for me a summit or cougar claw or trophey hunter is the way to go. Idk. Thanks for the info

Seeing a lot of comments regarding prices. There are are many options on the market now from all price ranges. A lot of guys I know started out with the DIY sit drag set up to see if it is worth while but like anything, once you commit to doing it right there is a little bit of up front cost. In comparison, you can get most of you set up for the same price as most climbing stands. A trophyline tree saddle and Out on a limb platform can be attained for less than 300 easily. Used market can be much cheaper. Tethrd Makes great stuff and if you can get them, do it but there are many other options out there and once you try it once, you're hooked.
Would like to see a quick video on shooting a bow from a saddle. Curious if all the ropes, straps get in the way of shooting?
I have a saddle but lately Ive been using the .5 more then anything its just as lightweight and mobile ..the saddle is nice early season once it starts getting cold they suck when you gotta add and remove layers also for me theres so much more movement involved with saddle hunting opposed to a stand ...if you can afford both a saddle and a lockon setup its worth it for the rare instances where its better but if you could only have one the .5 cant be beat...when setup correctly you can shoot the same circumferences with less movement
If they don't already, Tethrd should make a dedicated safety harness. That lower saddle portion looks better that any of the harnesses I've worn. Just needs shoulder straps and a rear tether hook.
When I'm not hunting public, I have several "permanent" ladders that are in tried & true locations...safety harness is all i need for those sits.
As a climber who has gotten into hunting this is interesting, also have ideas to make the system better. Edit: I looked at the price tag, smh, that's ridiculous expensive
Awesome idea, been around a long time. Now that it's the "cool kid" thing to do, price point has become ridiculous. Wait for other companies to catch up. HAWK makes a saddle now (not great), but hopefully others follow suit and drive down the cost.
Last week was the first time ever using a saddle for me, when going off of the side of the platform, my right foot hit the buckle and release the platform. All I did was fall a little bit and my tether caught me just fine. I was able to use my foot to get the platform back up Enough to lower myself down to my climbing sticks and then I re-installed my platform
How about a quick video of climbing the tree and setting up and see how long it takes.
I always did run and gun with sticks and stands. Once you practice a few times, it’s way faster. Not packing a stand up at the end saves a lot of time.
only takes a couple minutes to get 20'. putting all your nick nacks in place once you get on the platform is what takes a little more time . especially if you have camera equipment

Love the idea, love yalls content, biggest problem i have is the cost of their saddles. I make 6 figures and there is still no way i could bring myself to pay almost $300 on some fabric and ropes. Their profit margin is too massive. Id need it to be more reasonable. Unfortunately I will be sticking to the ground and tree stands until then.
I always get a laugh from the “too much margin” comments. Mostly because you have no idea what their margin is. Any manufacturer will tell you 40% gross margin is what you need to cover all the associated costs plus raw materials to have a healthy business. The Rule of Retail is 2x the cost (or more).
lahokc59 You assume that “doubling the cost” is all profit, typically far from the truth. Material, labor, equipment, all the costs associated with running a business (overhead /fully burdened costs), let alone unforeseen issues of manufacturing like scrap, material variences, equipment breakdown, etc. don’t forget people like to get paid, raises, benefits, etc.
While you believe things you buy should be cheaper, are you offering up a pay cut to your employer to reduce costs? Bet not.
In the end it is called capitalism. Fact is capitalism, unfettered, is a disaster for the consumer. All products have a market price...too high and competition comes in...too low and out of business.
No company can build bulk product on a minimum margin without a massive chain of distribution. IE a company that will buy everything that it has produced to distribute that product for the client.
It always makes me roll my eyes when people pretend to understand what profit margin actually means. This kind of company has to produce most of their product up front to be sold by themselves and smaller distributors throughout the year. If they operated on a minimum profit margin and had even 25% to 15% of their inventory unsold at the end of the year... They would go bankrupt every single time.
Furthermore, a company cannot pay a good livable wage to any of its employees on minimum profit margin alone. It's always interesting to see so many people complain about the average wage and then wish they could get cheaper products. You can't have it both ways. Profit margin and profitability are two totally different things. So our quality control and cost offset.
My assumption about this company is that it likely makes the highest quality item of its kind in the safest on the market. It probably also pays its employees a very fair wage. I would rather pay more to a company like that that we use premium grade materials then pay less to some foreign-made brand that could care less about the end user .

My question is changing saddle sets , let's say moving 60-100yds how much time approximately would you think it might take?
that's it, I'm hunting Tethrd One sticks and a Predator saddle system next year !!! Tired of lugging four 4 pound stagger steps and a 10 pound hang on plus my bow.....
I wish I could get my summit climber into any tree. Unlike any other stand, you can sit in it all day without adjusting. Unfortunately it's limiting characteristic is you need the right tree and that's not always in the right spot. I would carry a 90lb stand if I had to to be comfortable so weight isnt an issue for me. I wish I could try a saddle somewhere for a couple minutes. Can't justify the cost without trying it first. Would fit my mobile hunting style for sure if I liked it.
I'll be 70 years old in a few months and I am learning to climb trees with ropes so that I can saddle hunt next fall. Being old and out of shape makes pulling my butt up the rope a lot of work, but at the same time it is the most fun I have had in years. It is like being a kid again. In addition to just being great fun, it is also great exercise, so for all you older folks thinking about hunting from a saddle, you are not too old. Go have fun! You do not need to use ropes to get up the trees. You can use climbing sticks or other methods. The choice is yours. As to being in a saddle; I haven't spent a long period in the saddle yet, but I have been comfortable while there. I suspect it will be comfortable for long periods. Just be safe. Follow the rules and use common sense. You will have fun for sure. Bring a book with you.
I love that!! I'm 44 and wondering how many years I have left in the saddle..at least 26 years if I can keep up with you! I'm trying to get my Dad into it but he's not quite sold yet.
@@billydwilson8017 If I could talk to him I would tell him to sit in a harness and play like a kid on a swing for a few minutes. Work up enough nerve to lift yourself a couple of feet off the ground and turn yourself so you are suspended upside down in the air. Give yourself about five minutes to play on that rope like a child and you will see that it is just as much fun today as it was then. Don't let yourself believe all that childhood joy is gone from your life. Just go out and play. It is good for your mind, heart, and soul. Go outside and play. Freak out your wife and kids. You will be glad you did. Just be safe. Follow the rules.

I've been saddle hunting for over 25 years. Why all the hate? Hunt how YOU like. If it ain't for you, move along. There are more choices of manufactured saddles on the market now than ever. You can get started with a DIY minimalist set up for less than $100. We should all practice with our set up until it becomes 2nd nature, regardless of what method we use.
Look interesting. Light and portable. Ideal for scout and hunt situations. Nobody will be able to steal your stand either.

Who u kidding Zach u hunt 90% spot n stock ghillie suit on the ground bro but yes it’s another tool in the tool box the saddle is low profile but u guys have a great tree stand proven system but it’s nice 👍 to see new tools

I had a 22’ ladder stand come off the tree because of a broken strap. I crushed my L2 and fractured two more vertebrae along with 7 ruptured disc. I’m still recovering from the surgery. I bought a saddle and will be using it this fall. Nothing will get me back in a tree stand. The safety of a saddle is the best thing about it.
Why exactly is the saddle for safe? I m a total newbe in this field. All the best for your recovery. Cheers

Question / statement. Just because I have a problem falling asleep while I hunt . This is why I chose to hunt from the ground , but I would like to get back into a tree . Also standing in one place makes it worse for me. What is your thoughts ? October 2021

great videos here is my question i have fallen out of a tree shattered my foot from a normal hang on tree stand is this method truly safe it looks very cool but i am really nervous about trying it cause im telling you falling like that really hurts but i like being a versatile hunter and keeping options open to change where and how i hunt

I hunt northern Wisconsin and the U.P.. So later in the season you bulk up with clothing to stay warm. Sometimes a lot of clothes (lol). How is the saddle with the bulk from clothing? I am always willing to try new things that will make my hunt more comfortable especially the all day hunts during the rut.
Have you guys tried lone wolf climber stands? I hunt on fort Campbell Tennessee and I’m always going different places and it’s been the easiest way for me to get up in a tree.
14:11. I agree it’s not one or the other as far as a stand or a saddle. But after sitting in your stand watching deer go past a 60 yards away. Climb down and move. That is maximum efficiency.
Greatest system ever for more than 5 reasons. The people complaining about the cost, i was there. Super expensive, right? Well if you have 3 hang ons, a climber, and 2 sets of climbing sticks you spent more. Now you have to get cable locks and full body harnesses. Worry about theft all the time or hang it in the dark. With a saddle you need 1 rig, that's it. Nobody is stealing my gear anymore I promise you that. Its an investment for sure. But its way safer, and you access trees and areas that you couldn't in the past. When it comes to my life and my safety, I don't think about what it costs.
