    By reading the comments below I see that some people consider Stauffenberg a traitor. He tried to kill the man he was supposed to follow and worship but he had enough sense to know that the man he believed in at one point was nothing more than a psychopath murderer who needed to be stopped. Call him whatever you want to call him, Stauffenberg and the men that died with him will FOREVER be remembered as some of the bravest men in history for having the guts to stand for what they believed was wrong. May God bless their souls.

The war was lost long before they tried to assassinate Hitler and it was only a matter of time before their eventual defeat. All old Hitler did was just clinging on to his delutional fantasy that they could somehow, through sheer force if will or whatever, pull through and still win, thus killing many man and even boys in a desperate, already lost war.

    there are several things that could have ended the war early. some of those being if the briefcase wasnt moved, if the meeting was in the reinforced concrete bunker and if the plotters actually went on with the coup and not waited until Stauffenberg walked in saying he was dead. those 3 extra hours could have made all the difference in the war.

    • @robinstewart6510
      @robinstewart6510 3 года назад +5

      And how do you know any of that would have ended the war? The military, Claus von Stauffenberg, wanted control of Germany, not simply surrender to the allies. The allies would have never agreed to their terms for peace, so the war would have continued under more direct military rule.

    • @teacher555555
      @teacher555555 3 года назад

      @@robinstewart6510 there are so many points in which i can prove you wrong that i dont know where to start. i guess the best place is to tell you that the plot to assassinate hitler was just that a plot to kill him. it wasnt a plan to arrest him because the people around him would have overpowered and possibly killed the one who arrested hitler before anything could be done. the plotters knew that in order to take control, hitler had to be dead. its why the plan was for a bomb inside of hitler's steel reinforced concrete bunker. the blast wave would have been contained and multiplied the force of the explosion guaranteeing that everyone inside would have been killed. the briefcase being moved away from hitler, the fact that the meeting was moved to a wood built building and that when the news of the attempt to kill hitler at the wolfs lair reached the conspirators, instead of advancing the plot, they waited 3+ hours for Claus von Stauffenberg to walk into the plotters HQ to start the plot to take over germany. it wasnt 1 of these things. it was a combination of all of them that caused the plot to fail.
      the main reason why people plotted against hitler is that they knew that germany was going to lose the war. so they wanted him out of the way so they could at least have a chance of ending the war early on better terms than what they got when they had no choice but to surrender as they were surrounded with only a handful of military members left.

    The plotters were deluding themselves if they thought killing Hitler would end the war. It would not. Roosevelt and Churchill made it very plain that surrender was to be 'unconditional' regardless of who was in power - the Hitler government or a government of conspirators. The 'allies' were not interested in 'saving lives'. If they were, they would have encouraged the plotters. Oddly enough, only Stalin may have been willing to negotiate with a successor government and I say 'may have' since Operation Bagration, launched on the 22nd of June, 1944 was working out very well, German Army Group Centre being all but destroyed with a loss of about 300,000 men.

    The plot I think was naive in many ways, although honorable. Stauffenburg was young. If I were Staufenburg, I would've moved my family out of Europe into the U.S. or South America to some secret safe place and then flown straight out of Europe after the plot to where my family is just in case things didn't work out as they didn't. Come back after the war. Poor planning made him loose his life. And to be a father of 5. I know all about that. It was all too botched.
