Something people don't often realize is freezer burn usually is avoided by have a "real" freezer that needs to be defrosted every year or two. The freezer in your combo fridge/freezer has a fan it it and it takes the temp up a bit periodically. That process dehydrates the meat surface, which is freezer burn. That is why you never have to defrost your fridge freezer. My small upright freezer keeps all my meat burn free and the tiny ice build up is because I only open it once a week or less to transfer meat to the fridge freezer.

Get paid to be a member: executive membership + the costco credit card for all daily purchases and paid off monthly.
We spend about 40k a year on the card and between the return on the executive membership and the cash rewards from the card we get paid about 1k a year to be a member and shop with the card.
Unlike other card reward programs it is literally a yearly check you can cash or deposit back into your checking account. It's wild and I love it.

Love Costco. If y'all have local cattle farms nearby....look into buying from them. We buy a half a cow a year and it lasts for a long time. If you want to save a little more money, skip the steaks and get a whole loin / roast and cut your own steaks. The pork loins are also really good value, we can usually take down 2 whole loins every 2 weeks ( house of 5, two of us carnivore). Oh and the Kirkland salted butter ( green foil wrapper) is really good and worth the cost. We like it better than Kerry Gold.

yes, walmart meat is horrific & Costco's meat is excellent. 🥩
For the large bulk of meat that you buy freezer paper ($5) and use this with just some masking tape mark the date, type of meat & price per pound on the paper before wrapping. This will keep your meat freezer burn free for 6+ months (much longer most likely but I usually eat up the meat with 6 months). Much cheaper then plastic freezer baggies.

I had the same experience as you with Walmart meat, was spoiled when we got it, yuck. You may want to look into buying a 1/4 or 1/2 cow from a local farmer. We found one with a great reputation just searching online, about an hour and a half from us. We just picked ours up a couple of days ago and with all processing fees, butchered a week before pickup, all meat came out to $4.70/lb for 171.13 lb hanging weight, which includes all types of steaks, roasts, brisket, short ribs and of course, a lot of ground beef. This was grass fed-grain finished hormone-free, antibiotic free Angus beef. It didn't take up as much room in our upright freezer as we thought it would- We could have put a whole cow in there if we'd ordered one. Pork loin, also antibiotic/hormone free natural stuff, was $1.99/lb and bacon was $4.89/lb as well in their in-house cooler when we picked up the order we'd made so we bought a pork loin and if the farm had not been sold out of pork when we ordered the cow, we'd have added some of that to the order, but I have my eye on a very close-by farm that sells pork. We've started eating this very fresh beef and it is mouthwatering melt-in-your-mouth beef! We have our own chickens so we rarely have to buy eggs, only during their molts when they slow or stop laying. We all have to save money where we can, but of course, we also need our health to be optimal so this way of eating is the way to go. Next time, we'll get at least 1/2 cow ~Cynthia

    • @rootsrocksfeathers1975
      @rootsrocksfeathers1975 Год назад

@@carnivorecouple That is not a bad price at all for a superior product. It would cost that much here, depending on the hanging weight. The farm here charges at current moment $3.65/lb for the hanging weight plus the current feed surcharge for whatever increased cost of feed at the time and a very small processing fee, which amounts to between $1350 and $1640 total. it's a lot at once, yes, but over the long haul, saves a ton. If you're in Nebraska, you have a wealth of beef around you, for sure! Happy eating!

Cutting out dairy I feel so so much better (again just find what works for you and test and test over time)
I was in shape most my life then got out and lost 100 lbs and back to my prime weight of my 20s 30s am 59yr old back to 175 lbs @ 5’11”
One thing I like to do is get the thin cut chuck steaks they have then grill them nicely and throw in a instant pot for about 7-12 min kinda prefer the lower times these days has much more steak like flavor texture over the more long cook flavor ?
The other way with whole ones is cut into cubes about 1 inch and seer in bacon grease and then again instant pot for about 8-10 min and nice bite size pieces with a bit of chew
Kirkland grass fed butter is also great deal and super good !
Also for steaks or the chuck roast or any meat :) look into dry brining ! OH MAN for me its a game changer big time basically just salting the steak and putting on rack and over a sheet pan in the fridge for a day or two and dries out some gets an amazing crust that way and IMHO ads a lot to the flavor (sorry if you already knew this :) hahahaha
Ditto some others saying comparing sams club is closer in price to compare !
they have angus beef also but its often the same price but they have a few other things like oxtail at mine if you like that stuff also they have beef short ribs all the time at my sams I kinda like sams chuck better and they do not charge more for the thin cut like costco and a nice thing is sams club has it on sale early mornings sometimes and you can save about %25 !
My costco executive membership had $140 back last year so yeah it pays the sams about $80 back but we shop a lot more stuff at costco
Ditto the guy who said buy the whole rib eye loin if its not out front you just ask for it you can get choice also nice thing you get more fat with it :)
Good luck keep at it for sure life changing :)

Really liked your content, well put together!
As I think you will find out, a blend of CostCo and Walmart shopping is probably the lowest cost. The biggest challenge with CostCo is the bulk sizes and (depending on location) how busy the warehouses can be. Kirkland product is consistently good quality. Most of this stems from the fact that CostCo (and to a lesser extent Walmart, believe it or not) has a business model that focuses on NOT gouging their customers to anything like the extent most other grocery retailers do. Others actively look for opportunities to raise prices without pushback. I can't comment on Aldi (not close enough) or Sams Club (should be comparable to CostCo but you wouldn't have two memberships so pick the more convenient one as a rule).

  • @stevenberliner7964

Your membership paid for itself for the year in just your FIRST TRIP. Think how much you'll save going once per month (which, buying in those quantities, should be all that's necessary, LOL). And that's not counting the savings you can achieve by using the Costco gas station, which is usually the cheapest fuel around by a significant margin. On a related note, did you consider the hot fresh rotisserie chicken? At $4.99 each, it's generally cheaper than buying a whole raw bird!

After that I had a membership to BJ's same thing it was $30 but I don't shop the big bulk stores anymore because it's just me as much as I would like to I can't see myself just buying a membership to these places.
