I just ordered one of these GS. I’ve never had an oled. I got a cheap 4k tv and been using a like vg27aq monitor for a few years. Little gift to myself for Xmas
I own BOTH the GR and GS models. Your review is SPOT ON! I also used a neighbor's ASUS version. The differences are considerably noticeable. The GS looks MUCH better than both aforementioned offers...
@@soulsmouls as far as "that much better" goes, it's the brightness.. SDR mode is awesome on SR model. Don't get me totally wrong here , I have the GR, and it's pretty good, it's the dimming effect, and total brightness that should have been what the SR offers..
Out of the gs and asus which would you say was better/liked more in the end? I’m stuck between the two but I’m able to get the gs for $650 CAD (about $480 USD), or can get the asus on sale for $900 CAD (about $666 USD). So I’m wondering if it’s worth saving the $250 for the gs
Just discovered your channel, love all the information and well made comparisons with every monitor, even down to the software updates some of us may miss. Keep at this man!!!
Plus, from what I've seen the gs doesn't have ABL. GS is basically the replacement sku that perfects everything. Only hard thing is whether or not to go qd oled 360hz for the same price.
I like that your picky when it comes to monitors and don't follow the crowd and the buzzwords. Your simply stating the truth and that is why I am subscribed. I look forward to you comparing the MSI URX to the GS good sir.
II'm really considering getting a GS as my first Oled monitor. But I'm scared it would be too dim... How does it feel in term of brightness without comparing it to something else ?
Its not dim. The GR of last yr was Dim. This is great with peak High. Destiny 2 looks awesome. If you need or want brighter the Asus XG27ACDMG which is on sale right now (brightest woled right now at 240hz) or the Koorui GN10 for PC is crazy brighter and more 3deeish...
RUclipsrs: “W-OLED Sucks now! QD-OLED is the new king!” LG: “And I took that personally” Really looking forward to the 34inch Ultrawide W-OLED! Hopefully it’s on par (or even better) than the latest Gen QD-OLEDs
I’m more surprised this man doesn’t have the PG32UCDM already. The Asus looks great, I’m just worried about their customer support and how they have handled software updates in the past. For example, Asus says DV will come later via update. So basically HOPE like hell Asus will follow through

Did they fix the ghosting issue that the GR had at 60Hz refresh rate? I'm a console gamer, so I still play some 60Hz games. Just wanted to know because no one seems to be officially testing this monitor.
Need help with LG 27gs95qe I just picked up this 27 inch 1440p OLED. Out of the box settings are not it, but I can’t seem to change them? I can only select preset modes and can only edit the brightness. All other settings are greyed out as well as the reader preset. I’m on ps5 and I am using the hdmi cord that came with the monitor and it’s plugged into hdmi 1. Thanks in advance for help.
I bought the GS version from Amazon last month and had returned it because when I would have anything remotely bright note is not black the 4 corners of the monitor would dim and the only way yo get it back to the same brightness as the middle was to have some really dark or black in the corners but then it would just repeat the dimming process again, I spoke to LG and they told me that it could be an issue since it doesn’t say that, that model has something like that but I wanted to know from your own experience if it’s true

I have this LG27GS95QE too. I returned the GR and made a swap. I agree that it's so much better in the brightness. Just curious why you chose Gamer 2 instead of Gamer 1? Based on factory settings, Gamer 2 is running a cooler tone. Probably that's what you preferred.
Reason is gamer 2 looked to have higher brightness as like if it uncapped a bit in hdr mode on armored core 6. I think I have a video on that. Its the armored core 6 hdr test video. Lol i forgot. But congrats on the GS🎉 it is a safer bet as that brightness is nice to have if needed..

No.. only Samsung monitors that are smart have it due to game mode. The G60B, G70B, 34" G8 OLED, OLED G9 (G95SC) and new 32" OLED G8 AND G95D will have them. The framemotion or added frames from 30fps to 60 or 60 to 120fps - I hope thats what you mean..

I am releasing an HDR Test as someone wanted to see Armored Core 6 and some MW3 gameplay. But I'll keep a lookout on the newer mla tech if used here. Info is still coming out. LG should have really made bigger noise on this monitor it's that good.
Thanks for the comparison. A couple questions. Have you used the ASUS with the latest MCM106 firmware and noticed any ABL or brightness difference, and if so, how does it compare to the LG? How is the fan noise on the LG?
Your luminance reader says 1185 nits. Does that show up as its peak brightness according to the windows 11 peak brightness readout in advanced display settings? I'm only asking because if windows doesn't read it that way then it won't really help real world hdr performance in games if windows thinks it a has a much lower peak brightness.
Rtings and my sm208 light display meter show over 1000nits. I get what you mean. Windows while weird still shows 603 nits. Some work arounds on reddit but I really dont have a problem. Lately nvidia has unlocked nits on certain monitors. 45gs95qb and asus variants of qd oled. But LG themselves have not fixed or looked into this of windows reading it wrond. Asus pg32ucdm had this same issue (see reddit) and a update fixed it to 1000nits.

The GS is using an improved Gen 2 or Gen 3 but reduced in nits. I say this because thats what I have heard. Until someone opens it Ill bring that to everyone. I know what you mean lol on which qd oled to buy msi or asus. Both will be great. Msi has them for 949 plus you get 100 back on a steam gift card. So the msi is way cheaper and I cant wait to test. Also going to matte screen. Not sure what to do. This is the only video I can find good info on it though
Hey, The 27GS95QE is different vs the AW. Glossy vs Matte can be seen side by side. Do you or have you had any other monitor before? If you give me the model or monitor name I can try to better explain the coating on the GS. I have mostly all LG premium monitors and the matte is different on a couple of them.
@@DisplayReality Thanks for the reply. I have the AW2725DF and now the 27GS95QE testing them. The LG is easier on my eyes but I don't like the matte coating for white screens and lighter colors. Can you tell me if the coating on the 27GS is less grainy than on the 27GR? I am seeing reports that the 32GS is much improved in terms of grain than the 27GR so if the 27GS is just as grainy with the coating as the 27GR then I'm tempted to go with the 32GS even though it's much bigger and 4k because my eyes are agreeing more with WOLED for some reason. I love the image on the Alienware but it is tiring out my eyes and has worse VRR flicker too.
@@rickystafford7433 I just got the 32GS95UE in. I will unbox it soon for a side by side especially on the coating. The 27GS is the same as the 27GR. Tho I know what you mean on the matte look. I play alot of panning games (civ v) so I see that grainy peal sheen.

Sorry to ask but if I am not mistaken, in this video you personally think this monitor, 27GS95QE is even better than the new qd oled 32 inch Alienware? I got my hands on 27 inch new alienware on the launch day but returned it due to low brightness and not great hdr performance. If it is true I am considering buying this one haha, thanks~
I have both the aw3225qf and 27gs95qe side by side. Sdr the LG wins easy. But in hdr there are 2 modes. Peak 1000 the alienware looks awesome and better but in true black 400 the LG is more vibrant and overall brighter even the highlights. Crazy i know. Either the Alienware has messed up mides (Which I dont think so) or the LG this yr is really bright. That new peak brightness high option on the LG is what saves it. Glossy or matte the LG which is matte looks better on impact and no image wash. I will have a vs video after the alienware vs neo g8 next couple days.
@@DisplayReality yeah I tried the hdr 1000 mode on AW2725DF but it is not bright enough in windows or other app but hdr400 mode is much brighter. Thank you for your reply and looking forward to your next great review video ~
@@xbt2459 I believe digital trends (not really sure) said the Alienware 27" hdr peak was under 950nits. Thats why I decided to not get that version and wait for the MSI. My Alienwsre can hit 1089nits in peak hdr 1000 but it does dim the surrounding scene. But Im ok with that if the peak is that high so I totally understand why you returned your 27" that hdr impact was not there. Same can be said on the new 32" pg32ucdm I am hearing many say they expected more brightness. This LG true black 400 is better vs my Alienware qd oled so that was really interesting to see. I hope the MSI is just as bright or brighter.. I know believe the Samsung version will be good in hdr as that will have the peak brightness option also but its matte. Lots of options but lots of issues or shall I say missed or lower picture modes. We shall see..
Do you know when the GS releases worldwide? Im in the UK and I cant find these anywhere. Im thinking of going with the GR just because of the price drop its had and I play console too so maybe its better to go with LG than asus.
Try to wait for the GS. The GR is too low in brightness even for console. If it is $500 then maybe but $550+ dont do it. You will regret it. Wait until this GS is on sale if you need it cheaper. This is worth it.
Full screen hdr I was able to get a little under that. When I vs the alienware I will redo the sdr and hdr test on both. I know its 32" vs 27" but until I get a 27" qd oled (msi probably) this will have to do..
While I have never had an issue with text many who work or use it in that sense may want to wait for the newer pixel layout. The new 27" 480hz and 32" 4k dual mode will include the New pixel layout. This 27" 1440p still has the same as before.
@@injured_lion the LG would be brighter than both of those in SDR. But HDR the G60 and Alienware would be best. If you decide onnthe later 2 then its matte vs glossy which the Alienware would looks a small bit clearer but the G6 looks amazing in design.

MPG OLED overall is best. But in sdr mode while I have a side by side the w-oled looks to have higher peaks. I'll have a video out soon. I just finished remodeling my area hence why I haven't released a video.. it's coming.
Pixels at 1440 on a 27" is clearly noticeable. I have an ips UltraGear same format, and it's something I can't ignore. That's why my next monitor will be 4K 32" ( as I can't find 4K 27" ), but not bigger. Being TN, IPS or Oled doesn't make any difference in the size of pixels. It's a matter of proportions between surface and density (PPI).
Just give it a try. Whats your current monitor? Mostly every monitor on the planet had matte screens before qd oled started coming out on Ultrawide monitors last yr and now on 32" and 27" this yr.
LG is great. Ppl say this because samsung sells alot more. They are 18th in a row on tvs and monitors the number 1 seller. I think since they sell more they also recieve more issues. I Am getting everything samsung this yr also. Well i will try too. Lol your qn90b will be great..

I'd be interested to see the perceptual difference of qd-oled vs w-oled, although I guess for it to be 100% fair they'd have to be calibrated? Idk. Just purely science-wise, tftcentral confirmed qd-oleds have a 30-50% higher luminance than woled in all colors other than white.
QD OLED has always been brighter in color brightness. Thats just how the panel is made. No need for testing as thats just obvious and we have known that since 1st gen. Now its up to the monitor makers to get these modes working as even on the new asus the picture modes are wonky. Couple of news outlets reporting that. I have seen other calibrated monitors and other than rgb in different numbers (by small amount single digits changed) all my monitors are calibrated by eye and idisplay pro and sm208 brightness meter to verify. I cannot give actual calibration numbers as that is their info but my monitors are the same. Besides the hype so far on QD OLED it does not destroy w-OLED. Ill be the first to not go with the trend and present video evidence of how close these come.
If you dont need 100% brightness or are happy with 200nits for gaming then its a nice choice. I personally cannot fully use any monitor under 300nits. The GS which is brighter can be found for $699 on a sale. Wait for next or this week for sales to begin.
Hi Victor, I've tried to set peak brightness at High and calibrate HDR (setting peak brightness as 1000) by Windows HDR Calibration tool. But it seems like overexposed on highlights such as sun. I've tested it in Cyberpunk2077, MWIII, Elden Ring(these were all set to 1000 peak brightness in game), and it became normal when I set the peak brightness to around 600. Should I just calibrate the peak brightness back to 600? Or it's an issue from LG? Thanks for you further explanation!
Right now the windows calibration tool is off. Asus on the PG32UCDM just had an update. Ill double check the LG. But whatever look best is what you should set it at.

Hey Viktor! Just picked up GS95 today and this thing has been great beyond belief. You were right when you said this was truly an amazing monitor and the lack of ABL is truly a game changer! I just have a couple questions about how to calibrate this monitor. Firstly, I noticed that when calibrating HDR on the PS5 that it was significantly brighter than my 27AQDM although they should be around the same range which was confusing to me. However, I found out that compared to my 27AQDM which had a console mode that had HGIG, this monitor does not have HGIG at all. Instead, I found out this monitor forces you to use DTM (which goes to around 4000 nits) and can extremely blow out highlights. So how exactly am I (or how did you) supposed to calibrate this monitor on PS5 to get the best HDR experience? Secondly, when using the Windows HDR Calibration tool on Gamer 1 and Peak Brightness on High, this monitor only went to around 570-600 nits. Another helpful commenter told me to just put the max at around 1000 nits for smoother gradients, and I read that you were able to achieve around 1100 peak brightness in a 2% window. So is this the best calibration or should I stick to my 570 nits calibration? Also, which basis should I use when calibrating the PS5? Thanks in advance.
Hey... Im so happy the video was helpful. I actually am trying HDR400 vs Gamer 2. I think Gamer 2 enables better peaks and Gamer1 is true black 400 which caps everytjing around 400-450ish max. No abl so far in testing. For ps5 (16 clicks) is 1,000nits so maybe try 16-18 clicks. See whats better. So you know 25 clicks is 4000nits on ps5.
@@DisplayReality Thanks for the feedback! After trying both Gamer 1 and 2, personally I think Gamer 2 looks much better than Gamer 1 in my opinion (it’s a tad bit over saturated though). @XxLethel I also like Gamer 2 more. The peaks are higher. On PS5 I believe we should put it a small bit more like 17 or 18 clicks as the monitor may reach a small bit more. But just try it. If you are happy at 16 good to go. Just played some unbound and am totally happy with the highlights

Gamer 1 is substantially less bright but more in line with intended HDR presentation. More color is not always better color. More brightness is not always better if it messes up the presentation in other ways. Hopefully saturation levels & brightness are more in line with intended presentation. I will be getting the new GS version tomorrow.
I am guessing, but if this is a new panel, they may be using the new blue PH-OLEDs. If so, this would possibly allow them to make the panel less expensive as I have read somewhere that they were using 2 florescent OLED diodes per subpixel. PH-OLED is 3x more efficient allowing them to use a single diode per subpixel, reducing the amount of the used by half while still allowing an increase in brightness & to do so at slightly lower power usage. Blue PH-OLEDs are likely more expensive, but since they can use only half of them, they can be made less exppensive.
Hi there, I got the LG 27GS95QE-B tonight. While there doesn't appear to be any ABL, that is a little deceiving as while it doesn't seem to dim in any odd way, the SDR modes when opening & closing a dark window in front, high peak brightness has no affect on a largely white window but does have an effect on a largely dark window. So some dimming is happening in SDR modes when high Peak Brightness is selected. Low peak brightness seems unaffected this way. I will say even on low peak brightness it is still quite a bit brighter than the GR version. As to the possible efficiency improvement if power supply is any indication that appears to be absent or minimal as the new power supply is rated for 140 watts where the old one was rated for 110 watts. New power supply is slightly larger. This may be the same panel with beefed up driver circuit. On the other hand colors look very good. About the same as the old GR version. In the high peak brightness mode though in HDR there is a slight increase of posterization otherwise gradients are good considering brightness increase. Much better than on the brighter modes on the GR version. Vignetting is still alive & well though. Center is still slightly brighter than edges as on the GR. Center of the back cover seems to run a bit warmer than the GR version. Not real hot but definately warmer to the touch. Gamer 1 is the best most natural presentation for HDR content consumption. I can see where gamer 2 might be better in some cases for gaming.
@@ronaldbrandt8037 Hey, I was thinking about picking up the GS because the ABL on the AQDM is driving me insane in HDR. I have a couple of questions about the GS that I'm curious about before I fully return the AQDM and grab the GS. (This is my first OLED so I'm trying to figure out what's the best for me currently.) Firstly, how is the ABL with HDR enabled on the GS? Currently, everytime a bright white image appears the screen greatly dims (albeit only for a moment) this is a major annoyance of mine with the AQDM. If this is non-existent on the GS that would be a major selling point for me. Secondly, what is the max nits in HDR on the GS? I've seen a report on reddit that it only goes to around 550-600 nits (in Windows HDR Calibration) and begins to clip. Apparently this happens on both the high and low peak brightness setting within the OSD. This would be in comparison to my AQDM which goes all the way to 900 nits. Thanks.
I can't measure HDR brightness with my colorimeter but I can measure SDR brightness when calibrating sRGB. There I got 326 nits in LGs calibration program using the Spyder X colorimeter. In Victor's other video of this monitor he shows it getting over 1100 nits in 2-3% window size. This is brighter😮 than the Asus model & has better HDR color than the Asus. In practice full white screen brightness is bright enough to put the GR version to shame & I would imagine it to be at least slightly brighter than the Asus but with much better HDR color overall. As with the GR version I found that setting Windows HDR calibration to 1000 actually gives better result with smoother gradients & no loss of peak brightness.
240Hz vs 360Hz is hardly something majority of people will pay attention to. 120-180Hz range is enough tbh. I could barely tell the difference between 180Hz and 240Hz .. And when I tried the 360Hz it felt very similar to the other 2.
For matte screen users, there is no real other matte options coming out in 2024, and not for cheap, and nothing really in WOLED and matte, it's mostly QDOLED in 2024, and mostly glossy, and mostly not in 27 inch. Since the GR is on sale for $599 right now, it's almost no contest, especially since it has the least offensive body design. At that point the question becomes whether the GS is worth paying almost $300 more for....and even with the upgrades, it's not enough, even if it was 360hz, which it's not, it would still be a tough call at $300 price difference.

@@soulsmouls as far as "that much better" goes, it's the brightness.. SDR mode is awesome on SR model. Don't get me totally wrong here , I have the GR, and it's pretty good, it's the dimming effect, and total brightness that should have been what the SR offers..

Rtings got their hand on the 27gs95qe and their results are quite interesting. Basically, in HDR, you're not missing anything if you got the 27GR95qe.
The performance for gaming is way better on the S. It was way too many inconsistencies on the GR

No.. only Samsung monitors that are smart have it due to game mode. The G60B, G70B, 34" G8 OLED, OLED G9 (G95SC) and new 32" OLED G8 AND G95D will have them. The framemotion or added frames from 30fps to 60 or 60 to 120fps - I hope thats what you mean..

What if the 27gr95qe is available for like $599 ? Should I still not get it ?

Should I just calibrate the peak brightness back to 600? Or it's an issue from LG? Thanks for you further explanation!

Waiting for the LG GS version vs the new asus XG27AQDMG :D
I just put it at 1000 nits (16 clicks) and will report back how I like it.
What do you think is the best Peak Brightness setting to use for Gamer 2?
@XxLethel I also like Gamer 2 more. The peaks are higher. On PS5 I believe we should put it a small bit more like 17 or 18 clicks as the monitor may reach a small bit more. But just try it. If you are happy at 16 good to go. Just played some unbound and am totally happy with the highlights

Yo Vik😊
Hey Mikey!! Lol goonies
Most likely better cooling on the lg so they can make it brighter
On the GR version, the gamer2 setting looks horrible in HDR. Way oversaturated. Vivid mode in HDR is even worse with bright scenes undersaturated & dim scenes way oversaturated even compared to gamer2 setting. At least gamer2 is consistent in its presentation.
HDR is much improved especially in HDR true black 400 mode. Pls let me know what you think of the GS..
(This is my first OLED so I'm trying to figure out what's the best for me currently.)
Firstly, how is the ABL with HDR enabled on the GS?
It's dumb LG did not give this panel a competitive 360hz like the QD-OLED.
I agree. The 2020s are gonna be about pushing frames. 240hz 1440p oleds in 2024 doesn't feel like an upgrade
1080p 360hz is not great at all.
@@J_Brian Then it's good we are talking about 1440p 360hz.
