it depends on the use case and personal preference. looking at 1:10 the matte looks less distracting with reflections if they are dimm, but I see how some people prefer the glossy with more reflections to give that depth look. Under normal circumstances, raising the minimum VRR frequency simply means that LFC kicks in when below that frequency, it doesn't mean VRR stops working completely. But I'm not exactly sure how this would work with 160 or 200 Hz on a 240 Hz monitor - typically LFC needs the monitor to be able to do the next multiple of the frequency, as in the lowest VRR range minimum you can do on a 240 Hz monitor would be lower than 120 Hz and often it needs a bit of additional headroom.

What baffles me is how you could have missed such an obvious issue with near-black gradients on this monitor, which is mentioned multiple times on ASUS ROG forums, Reddit, or even Rtings. It's not just 24Hz content; all near-black gradients are completely off because of a sharp drop in brightness on the grey gradient, which causes terrible vignetting in some cases. Also you should actually test the ULMB mode sometimes. It's not just a button that just works, we need more detail, see how it look in motion, and know about the ranges of framerates the ULMB works at. I know you're not a gamer but please at least try.
Vincent, Windows modern apps like Settings don't use subpixel antialiasing, so they're a bad example to demonstrate fuzzy text due to WRGB subpixel layout. Showing an app that uses ClearType subpixel rendering would be a better demonstration of the effects of nonstandard subpixel layouts on text rendering.

Guys I gotta be honest. I own the PG27AQDM and bout the aw2725df because I wanted the glossy screen. But looking at the two side by side and testing in-game, the alienware's abl kind've ruins the monitor for me. It does look a bit better in very dark scenes with small highlights, but in bright scenes, the ASUS gets way brighter and looks better. All that being said, the alienware has a clear advantage in terms of clarity due to the glossy screen. It's really unfortunate that the Asus shipped with a matte coating in the first place. Guess the one I'm really looking for is this new updated Asus model, but I don't want to spend the money on that lol.

@@ghibliavigo1983 They are both great, would argue in a living room with windows the s95d is nicer, but with curtains or in the evening with a light source behind you the G4 is the winner. Honestly ive tested both and although i do prefer glossy. I went with the qd oled samsung odyssey g6 just for the simple fact they were selling a open box one at best buy for $480
I read a lot about it and went to the store to compare the two before my purchase. Honestly, the difference is not zero, but to me it is not worth the hassle with raised blacks in a bright room. maybe the yellow, red (gold for instance) feels slightly more saturated. Went with the LG G series due to build quality (metal heatsink/frame), menu software being better in my opinion and Dolby Vision (for movies). They are all great, so either way, have fun!
My Alienware monitor looks much more vibrant and accurate than my C2 and colours don't exist on the C2 that do on my monitor. The raised blacks aren't a big issue, I play with windows open and lights turned on. It has a huge difference in reds and yellows, and the colour depth is much better and the image looks more 3d.

more important than the glossy vs matte debate is the super aggressive ABL of the QD-OLEDs, only the new Asus monitor seems to have acceptable HDR brightness for most scenarios. Hope Samsung can do something better next year OR brands could provide heatsinks.
Gorilla glas armor reduces reflections A LOT without being matte, but it might be expensive and is developed by samsung electronics + corning, so will remain samsung exclusive for some time, I guess.

And despite the lie everyone is led to believe, glossy actually handles reflections better than matte.
You cannot change the laws of physics.
Thank you so much for covering this topic!
I use my LG OLED in a dedicated dark home theatre so I prefer glossy for movies/gaming. Shopping for MLA replacement this year...
In dark home theatre it's literally irrelevant.
@@Tarets matte or glossy anything works right ?
I went from a full on matte 32" to a LG C4 42" and holy crap the different is night and day. Just like you said sir, it feels like a window that you could just open up and crawl into the game world. Glossy just has this clean, clear, clarity that matte will never ever have.
Matte all the way. I don't want to see any glare or spots in my screen no matter whatever else is in the room. I don't want to be aware or to manage the lights in any way.
You have glare from the shit matt filter... not from glossy :))
Why are there so few of us? We are a persecuted minority.
@@macgameshistory Well I prefer matte from all of the current OLED monitors coating. But what I want is the same level of glossy coating as on a LG OLED C3 TV. Why can't they give is this?
This, it's a monitor you sit close to. No matter the light there will be reflections, I don't want a black mirror.
i am so excited to get this monitor :D cant wait anymore
Get it while it's on sale
Thanks, your technical acumen is without peer!
does this mean that ALSO G-sync does NOT turn off if frames drop beneath VRR range? That is how it USED to be at least. were you using Nvidia and G-sync we can assume?
I very pleased with my Gigabyte FO27Q3 , glossy are great and it have not so much reflection for this model QD-OLED !👌
Gloss is boss!
Thanks Vinnie!
Thank you Vincent! this is the type of content we want!!
I went with AW3225QF and I've never had a better monitor. It's stunning
really good video ! as always ! please ! can you test the Eve ( Dough ) spectrum OLED 32" 4K ( glossy with gorilla glass ) it should use the same pannel as this ASUS XG27AQDMG but with better brighness and more ! thank you a lot !
I think Asus is up to something with this choice.
I have no idea what are the statistics and whether people prefer matte or glossy.
But being one glossy oled among so many matt, it would definitely make this display a definite choice.
Glossy FOR LIFE.
6:49 Inglourious Basterds key moment
Glossy for me that's why i chose a G4 rather a s95d
Io ho acquistato un 77S95D e sono molto soddisfatto.
@@ghibliavigo1983
They are both great, would argue in a living room with windows the s95d is nicer, but with curtains or in the evening with a light source behind you the G4 is the winner.
I go with LG due to the latter use case, I prefer the build quality (more metal, feels sturdy) and because the menu software is better in my opinion.
both excellent , Colour volume vs 3D look, processing more codecs and 5 years of updates .Plus G4 can be 83"
The AQDMG looks cool, but we got maybe 3 mins of glossy vs matte? Must be a pretty quick and straight forward decision, glossy is king
When are you gonna review Sony Bravia 9..? I'm eagerly waiting for your review of Bravia 9 and comparisons with A95L..
Having just gotten glossy oled, I will never switch back. Matte can die in a fire
Great vid as usual. The glossy slick back was a nice touch.
Mr. Teoh, it seems reviews are coming very slowly this year. Anything is coming soon?
Hey mate, please do a QN90D review
Most of the gamers still live in their parents' basement. No sunlight in the basement.
Honestly ive tested both and although i do prefer glossy. I went with the qd oled samsung odyssey g6 just for the simple fact they were selling a open box one at best buy for $480
Do you review the Sony Bravia 9 in the near future?
You mentioned it shortly at the beginning, but can you expand on the topic of colour volume? Is the difference noticable between QD-OLED and WOLED?
@@ast534 i was actually comparing the S90C, Sony (expensive one), S95B, C3 and G2. As I said, to me it was close to zero difference, all of these are great, but I preferred the build quality of LG (own these two models above now) and the settings menu. I have an old Samsung, the menu is not bad, but preferences.
Alienware is Dell and unfortunately, in my opinion, AW is thus trash (design - colour, material, form - I don't like active heatsinks because it's another point of failure)
@@NearynHub no I have a G3 in the living room and it is mogged by the s90cs I've seen
@@ast534 well, that's where taste differs. Still all good. Best to just go and see the differences in a store and read about them online. Would Sony lower their prices and actually give 4 full bandwidth HDMI ports, they would be easily the first choice.
My Gigabyte FO48U was the first ever glossy WOLED monitor tyvm
Which do you recommend for photo editing?
Will you be testing portable monitor from asus, aoc, JSAUX?
more important than the glossy vs matte debate is the super aggressive ABL of the QD-OLEDs, only the new Asus monitor seems to have acceptable HDR brightness for most scenarios. Hope Samsung can do something better next year OR brands could provide heatsinks.
Why is nobody using gorilla glas on monitors
Yes why not
It would be really expensive and pointless because you don’t rub your monitor in your pocket 1000 times a day for years.
@@BillyONeal also true.
Gorilla glas armor reduces reflections A LOT without being matte, but it might be expensive and is developed by samsung electronics + corning, so will remain samsung exclusive for some time, I guess.
Why are you doing barely any Panasonic reviews nowadays?
I hate matte. Been waiting 5 years for glossy oled monitors to hit the market to change out my lcd 3 screen setup. Finally today is that day. Was able to pick up 3 of these bad boyz from Best buy's black Friday sale. To say I'm excited is an understatement.
watching this on my 10 years old ROG Swift PG278Q .. while waiting for my, already shipped, xg27aqdmg to arrive
Megaman 2 music goes hard af
Dear Vintect. Please do the same thing but with TVs
To what point?
@@Tarets to show glossy vs matte duh. Monitors are not the same as tv. Moreover these are different manufacturers which can lead to different coating different soft and everything else.
@@kristof46 How are they not the same? You didn't ask for any specific models to compare, so what differences do you expect to see? There's no such thing as "TV coating" or "monitor coating".
@@Tarets first thing first. I said that coating is only one factor. Vincent showed much more than just coating. Monitors work differently comparing to TV. We should know how good or bad is s95d comparing to g4 etc.
I think the GLOSSY screen and your GLOSSY LOOK is very cool :)
i’ve seen glossy screens that aren’t oled how do i find those online and know they aren’t matte screens or antiglare screens is there something i search to find glossy screens only?
Eye love this #channel 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
10:17 this explains why you cant watch HDR movies on the XG27AQDMG or PG27 models. I wasnt able to see anything in dark scenes on this monitor on my unit.
i can confirm that there is no issues with new samsung oleds with matte coating (no raising blacks at all)
Ya no, the blacks still raise, but to a lesser extent.
GLOSSY! I have the FO32U2P right now. I had the LG matte oled monitor before. The matte is terrible! Matte also lowers colour depth.
So there was no color advantage on QD-OLED even on dark scene with neon-like lights (e.g: car red taillights)? on games like GT7, qd-oled has particularly striking colors, even if the rest of the picture brightness is rather dull
Not sure I believe it's not noticeable. This to me was more of an ad for the Asus than a panel coating shootout. If he talks about any of the pluses of the other 2 monitors vs the new Asus it wouldn't be as good of an ad would it? For example, he never talks about WOLEDs weak text rendering for example, while not perfect on a 3rd gen QD-OLEDs it is better than current WOLEDS.
@@theripper121 that makes sense, plus he tested the dimmest qd-oled panel according to rtings (i have that same alienware model) the gigabyte/msi panels are a better display of QD-OLED with higher brightness and better EOTF
@@adrianomart I have the aw2725 as well. Brightness to me in a vacuum, not sat next to another monitor, is fine in my opinion. My only major gripe with it is the handling of gamma 2.2 in creator mode. Interesting how he doesn't mention at all the superior color calibration out of the box of the Alienware either.
@@adrianomart The gigabyte and MSI panels are exactly the same as the Alienwares. The only difference are minor adjustments each manufacturer has made. Their overall brightness is basically identical.
@@theripper121 they are slightly brighter according to rtings and have better EOTF tracking on the 1000 peak mode, the alienware is rather dark, doesn't bother me all that much but yeah.
yeah the lack of color comparison is weird, especially considering that it reaches rec2020 80% whereas woled is in the 70% range, know a guy who bought a asus 1440p 240hz monitor and said the brightness is good but colors are muted...
