I bought it the CD in 1999 and still have it. I like the studio albums especially 1983 and Abacab.
Awesome!!
I still remember the day I bought 'Turn It On Again - The Hits' on CD. It was Monday, October 25, 1999 - the day it came out - when I cycled to my record store at 9 a.m. to pick it up. That album wasn't my introduction to the Genesis/Phil Collins cosmos, which happened to me about five years earlier when no real compilation had been released. That meant I had to purchase both catalogues album by album. So, I learned to appreciate their music pretty slowly and therefore, rather organically. That was why that compilation didn't mean something special to me that time, except "CC99", which I liked (and still like) more than the '74 original version. Now I've put both PC's '...Hits' (plus "You'll Be In My Heart" as bonus track) and 'TIOA - The Hits' into a self-made double CD set, because to me, both compilations are back-to-back/sibling albums.
From the marketing point of view I think the main reason they re-released 'TIOA - The Hits' was, because their previous compilation's ('The Last Domino?') sales had practically gone to zero. And their record company now hopes to keep a permanent Genesis compilation on the market. Regarding to '...Hits' I assume there is no need to re-release it, as long as the recent compilation 'The Singles' still sells.
Good review! Of course I have the CD from back in the day. I’ll get the LP because I’m a lot like you - just a decade older.
ha! Amazing!
My grandparents have this album on CD, the track listing is really good and that clear vinyl looks really cool!! 😁👍
This album was special for me as well, it was the first Genesis album I bought (along with Invisible Touch), in about 2006. Love your channel btw mate glad you've kept it going!
Amazing and thank you!!
I have both editions of this record on cd turn it on again and the turn it on again tour edition saw them once and Phil 3 times
Excellent my friend!!
I've said this before on one of your videos and I'll say it again the mid 2000 box sets need to be reissued but on bluray audio i have all the original sets but it would be nice to have them on bluray
Great idea!
I ordered this LP immediately when my local record shop got it in. Genesis is my fav band. Only got to see them live once. Saw Phil live once. ❤❤❤
Glad you got a copy!
I Also Want to Suggest : The John Martyn "Glorious Fool" Album. Phil Collins is All Over this album, Producing, and Writing. You'll Recognize him Right Away.
Yes...
YESSSS!!!!!
Always loved this compilation. Overjoyed to finally see this album on vinyl!
Me too!!
Ark 2/Flaming Youth was on the UNI label.
Cool!!
I'd like to see a boxed set on vinyl of singles and b-sides.
Great idea!!
That would cost a fortune. All that vinyl.
Am I missing something about the beginning of this episode about the comments made about buying from Amazon on this video made by this person?
The joke is that I shouldn't have bought it on Amazon, as I did, instead I should support my local record store. But I was impatient. Thanks for watching!
Another Great Video. Congratulations.
Thank you!!
Got mine today, it keeps skipping at we can't dance ☹️
Oh mate that is for me 100%
Amazing!!
I still can't find it in my country 😢😢😢😢😢
Dang!
I collect vinyl, so I can actually own something and not be screwed by endless corporate enshittefying. Thanks for the review Scott!
My pleasure friend!!
Which version of the songs did they use? The 2007 remixes? The original version of the Hits had the 1994 remastered versions.
This was the one question I wanted answered, I don't think it was addressed.
I hope it’s not the 2007 remixes, because they sound terrible.
Great question, I suspect pre-2007. Can't confirm.
Thanks, It's interesting to hear a younger fan's perspective on The Hits. When it came out in '99, I kind of sighed and bought it, a CD full of songs I already had with another minimalist white album cover (I love the Bill Smith covers, but the band went a little too far with the theme, imo). When I received it from Amazon back then, I suspect I skipped straight to Carpet Crawlers 1999, which I loved. (It was produced by Trevor Horn, btw.) It great to hear Steve Hackett on a modern Genesis track. Like you, I went ahead and bought the clear vinyl. Listening to it now, it's sort of cool to have all the radio edits in one place.
what did you think of the platinum collection
Great! Could be cool on vinyl too!
Does this set include anything from the Gabriel era, or just the Collins/Banks/Rutherford era?
IKWIL(IYW) and Carpet Crawlers.
A couple of omissions they should have included on this one - No Reply At All, Paperlate, Man On the Corner, Home By the Sea, and Illegal Alien. I understand why they didn’t include the last track, because it really is politically incorrect.
Great points. Home by the Sea and Man on the Corner for sure.
I did not buy this 25 years ago nor will I buy it on vinyl now.
I am a longtime Genesis fan and there are only 5 tracks on this record that I like and the rest does not do anything for me.
I did buy the Genesis @ live BBC on cd instead of the record due to there were more songs that I wanted to hear on the cd boxset version than the record .
I will instead wait for the records that I pre-ordered the 75th Anniversary of Atlantic Records of the TOTT,Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot
I do agree that the greatest hits record is a starting point to discover the music of Genesis and to work through their back catalogue .
It would have been nice if they put it in a gatefold.
I was surprised by that too.
but I like Creed...I can't help it😢
I won't judge you. lol
