@@TheProgCorner Now that I think about it, JCSS may have been my very first exposure to "prog." My oldest sister had it, but I wore it out. I was only like 11 or 12 years old and I didn't even know what a "Broadway" or "West End" show was. At that time as a kid, it was just an album, but I remember thinking, "Why is this record so different than most records?" I didn't understand it was a soundtrack to a show, I just remember loving it. Since that time I've seen over 100 broadway shows, so it stuck! There are some parts in that album that are so melodically perfect. I should play Heaven On Their Minds on Prog Radio. Queensrÿche even covered it.
One of my favourites is Known/Learned by Arcane, a band that had Jim Grey of Caligula's Horse on lead vocals! Arguably one of the greatest prog metal albums ever, two hours of some of the best music out there
My top prog double lps growing up was GG Playing the Fool, Camel A Live Record, VDGG Vital and of course The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (what does that stand for Lamb on LSD on Broadway?
Almost forgot. A brand new double album (on vinyl) from The Church. Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars. An album definitely worthy of consideration. Outstanding!
Kudos Scot, for giving major props to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “ JCS. “ I was 10 years old when I first heard that wild, rock opera back in ‘71, and it blew me away instantly. I will gladly hold it responsible for getting me into both rock and classical music at the same time. And I didn’t even know who Ian Gillan was yet 😆. But it’s a treasure of a double album and should be there with all elites.
Man ! I really admire you choosing "London Calling". I love it too & you can make a case for it being progressive as it is such a progression from their punk roots.
I think you've named all my favourites, I can't think of any others. BTW I just saw a new video by Rosalie Cunningham - Return Of The Ellington, very promising.

Left out Humble Pie Performance Rockin' The Fillmore. The Stones and Zep can only dream of improvising live like this. Also, critically acclaimed as being one of the best capturing of the live sound and the hall ambience.
Johnny Winter released a 3 sided album that was outstanding. He was IMO very under rated. Leaving The Beatles White Album of any double album list denigrates the entire list. The Beatles invented progressive before progressive was a thing. I am 75. I lived thru all of this in person.
Double CD+ releases that come to mind; I guess in terms of vinyl, all of these would be triple, quadruple, plus albums: - British prog band Gandalf's Fist released a triple CD, The Clockwork Fable, and a double CD, The Clockwork Prologue. - Spock's Beard released a double album, Snow. And, I think they may have 1 or 2 more after Neal Morse left. On that subject, Neal has released quite a few double disc albums. - Half the releases from The Flower Kings, I think, are double discs. - Dream Theater has released two double disc albums, The Astonishing, and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. - Iced Earth released The Glorious Burden, and the deluxe edition was a 2 disc set.
I didn't realize that Soft Machine Third was a double. I only got into them a few years ago so only digital version. It's a really good album. Chicago II is a great album, sort of proggy how all the songs medley together as suites, so each side was a song, sort of (I was writing this while watching and had to change my comment when you popped it up! TYVM). Kind of like how the Moody Blues Threshold of a Dream has no song breaks, they all flow into each other (so if you got it CD, it inserts breaks where there really aren't any and it sucks). Oh, yeah, the Total Eclipse was great.
Nice list as usual. However I do miss Subterranea, The Road Of Bones and Resistance by IQ, Stardust We Are and FlowerPower By The Flower Kings and Snow by Spock's Beard in that list ! Into The Electric Castle and some other albums by Ayreon ; Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater ; She by Caamora ; The Inconsolable Secret by GlassHammer ; Al Bandaluz by Cast ; From Land To Ocean by Galleon and last but not least, Grace for Drowning by Mr Steven Wilson could have found a place there. I guess there are lots of other titles that could have been in this list too. Great job anyway Scot !
ELO's Out Of The Blue has to be in there, otherwise, superb list, forgot about the XTC one. Agree with Quadrophenia for The Who instead of Tommy, Tommy is a soundtrack instead of an album(yes, I'm nitpicking) Yes and Genesis are one and two?! Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile. PIL - Metal Box (2nd Edition). Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasure Dome (featuring some guy called Steve Howe on guitar. Wonder what happened to him🤔)

I would have thrown in Zen Arcade and Zaireeka as well but prog purists would have thrown stuff at me! Oh and I believe the offical name is Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds. But I just love that album and story
Zen Arcade!!!! Oops!!!! Should have at least been mentioned!!!!! I love Hüsker Dü!!!
Kudos to you, Mr. Scot, for including The Clash’s ~ London Calling on your list! I’m a big prog - AND Prog - fan, but l like a large swath of punk stuff as well. I also spent over a decade singing in a Ramones Tribute Act, too. It pays to keep an open mind when it comes to multiple milieus in music.
It’s good to have wide and varied taste, so l admire your honesty and integrity when it comes to music. Not many cats on the internet can do a ranking show on “Tay Tay;” wax poetic about Tales from Topographic Oceans; and keep up on Bob Pollard’s massive musical musings and outrageous output & oeuvre as well!
Keep up the stellar - and interstellar - work, matey!
Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍎
Rock Out, Prog On AND Pogo!

@@daveycretin664 Gabba Gabba What The F*** I love Ramones!!!
@@TheProgCorner ~ If I wasn’t currently cramming for a Silmarillion ranking in a few hours, I’d be watching your debut on the Curlessmania RUclips channel! I’m doing another Prog album battle with him very soon. And, after that, a ranking show on The Bruddahs from Forest Hills, Queens, Noo Yawk! (With a different cat you’re about to do a show with.)
Third is so amazing I’ve had it for 40 years and yes the sound quality ain’t grand but love it just the same…
Tomorrow's In The Prog Seat - hope we see you there!!
I’m always lurking…
Nice! I'd also have: All Things Must Pass (George Harrison), Yes Songs, The Allman Brothers Band Live At Fillmour East, Similitude of a Dream (NMB), Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (DT). My fav's from your list: 20 Something Anything. 18 Yellow Brick Road. 17 White Album. 13 Physical Graffiti. 11 Works. 10 The Wall. 9 Jesus Christ Superstar (got me into musicals). 8 War of the Worlds. 7 Living in the Past. 5 Chicago II. 3. Quadrophina & Tommy. 2. Lamb. As well as several of your HM's. Nothing like a double album to keep a kid busy in the 70's!.
I love show tunes so JCSS is right in my wheelhouse!!!
Ooooooooooooooooooklahoma where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain…don’t get me started.
One of my favourites is Known/Learned by Arcane, a band that had Jim Grey of Caligula's Horse on lead vocals! Arguably one of the greatest prog metal albums ever, two hours of some of the best music out there
I like Arcane way more than Caligula’s Horse!!!
I love Caligula's Horse - I'll certainly give Known/Learned a try. Thanks for the recommendation.
Yes! Focus 3! Holy shit, what a masterpiece. That is a desert island record for me. Side 2 is an absolute must listen for any Guitar head.
Jan Akkerman. Guitar God.
Absolutely. I saw them in concert for 40p so about 50cents. Fantastic concert. The week after I saw Home for the same. Another belter.
Genesis and Yes my 2 loved bands ever. Thanks.
Mine too!!!
My top prog double lps growing up was GG Playing the Fool, Camel A Live Record, VDGG Vital and of course The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (what does that stand for Lamb on LSD on Broadway?
Playing The Fool is my favorite live album!!!
Almost forgot. A brand new double album (on vinyl) from The Church. Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars. An album definitely worthy of consideration. Outstanding!
The Church!!!!!
Impressive album cover.
Awesome 👏
Thank you, Jacob!!!!!
The 39 Lashes kept me awake at night…
Man ! I really admire you choosing "London Calling". I love it too & you can make a case for it being progressive as it is such a progression from their punk roots.
A good observation!!!
I think you've named all my favourites, I can't think of any others. BTW I just saw a new video by Rosalie Cunningham - Return Of The Ellington, very promising.
You know I love her!!!!
I'm a fan of hers. I've been paying attention. I'm hoping she releases a full length some time soon and then goes out on tour.
And then reforms Purson!!!!!
@@TheProgCornerFingers crossed!
Nice list. Remember listening to Jesus Christ Superstar during Sunday school. Maybe the only thing i can recall. Listened to Myth of Logic yesterday. Good stuff. Thanks
Awesome!!!!
Looking forward to the Strawbs!
Me too!!!
Good stuff, Scott!
My top ten (not necessarily ranked):
Tales from Topographic Oceans
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Physical Graffiti
Bitches Brew
Encore (Tangerine Dream)
Incantations
The Wall
Quadrophenia
The White Album
Works Volume 1
Perfect.
I love the Hello Kitty stuff! My wife until she passed 4 years ago loved Hello Kitty. Seeing HK makes me smile!
Tales from Toporraphic Oceans my fav (non-miles) double album! or Dance of the Lemmings by Amon Duul 2
Amon Düül 2!!! Yeah!!!! Sorry to hear about your wife. She was obviously pretty awesome.
@@TheProgCorner Oh yeah/// 4 years almost and I still grieve. Music can help at times.. love your channel you are not as dogmatic and boring like other proggish site.. (SoT)!
@@SD9xcp311x i appreciate that!!!!
Left out Humble Pie Performance Rockin' The Fillmore.
The Stones and Zep can only dream of improvising live like this.
Also, critically acclaimed as being one of the best capturing of the live sound and the hall ambience.
Humble Pie!!! Nice!!!!👍
Johnny Winter released a 3 sided album that was outstanding. He was IMO very under rated. Leaving The Beatles White Album of any double album list denigrates the entire list. The Beatles invented progressive before progressive was a thing. I am 75. I lived thru all of this in person.
So you know why The White Album had to be on my list!!! You get it.
This might be left field....
Wishbone Ash's double live album - early seventy-ish.
Love you cat.
Keep on keeping on.
Peace on earth.
Love Wishbone Ash!!!
Double CD+ releases that come to mind; I guess in terms of vinyl, all of these would be triple, quadruple, plus albums:
- British prog band Gandalf's Fist released a triple CD, The Clockwork Fable, and a double CD, The Clockwork Prologue.
Excellent!!!!
Tales From Topographic Oceans
Yes!!!
@@TheProgCorner A bonafide Masterpiece
I didn't realize that Soft Machine Third was a double. I only got into them a few years ago so only digital version. It's a really good album. Chicago II is a great album, sort of proggy how all the songs medley together as suites, so each side was a song, sort of (I was writing this while watching and had to change my comment when you popped it up! TYVM). Kind of like how the Moody Blues Threshold of a Dream has no song breaks, they all flow into each other (so if you got it CD, it inserts breaks where there really aren't any and it sucks). Oh, yeah, the Total Eclipse was great.
That was so AWESOME!!!!
if you catch your foreskin in you kip after a pee..is it better to pull the kip up or down...any advice
suppose you could listen to pain of salvation
James. You already know the answer…
Way to go Jesus Christ Superstar!! I mentioned it in some episode, as one of my earliest prog memories. Broadway Prog!
For sure!!!
Always had a soft spot for Works vol 1 and top 2 pick themselves. How was the eclipse?
Oh man!!! The eclipse was stellar.
@@TheProgCorner once in a lifetime. It pi**ed down here all day #typical
Nice. Hope you wore the special glasses.
I did!!! It was spectacular!!!
Love the energy, keep up the great work!!
Thank you! Will do!
In the "is a crappy movie" department: FM (1978). Nice soundtrack and compilation of songs. ;-)
Also great: The Band - The Last Waltz
Great song. Bad movie...
Modern Prog took a backseat here. In the CD era almost every album was a “double” album so I focused on the classic era…
Are there other albums like War of the Worlds?
Not that I’ve ever heard!!!!
ELO's Out Of The Blue has to be in there, otherwise, superb list, forgot about the XTC one. Agree with Quadrophenia for The Who instead of Tommy, Tommy is a soundtrack instead of an album(yes, I'm nitpicking)
Yes and Genesis are one and two?! In other news, bees buzz, grass is green, and birds fly...
Exactly!!!!
@@TheProgCornerShe has a new album coming out this month. Would be a nice short to place it in your rankings of TS albums. That way, you don't have to do a whole rankings show. Just a 30 second update, please.
There is a guitarist I know that did a decent double album
Jimi Who??!! Electric What??!!
Awesome! Exciting at least up to 3rd rank 😂 Love the inclusion of Jesus Christ Superstar and War of the worlds :) Suggest the inclusion of IQ Subterranea :)
I almost included it!!! So good!!!
Went back and listened to Jesus Christ Superstar because of this video. Used to really not like it (probably because a VERY MEAN music teacher made us watch the movie in elementary school) but after diving deep into prog for the past few years I can totally appreciate it now!😁
Yes!!!! It is a Prog album at its core!!!
I listed 26 double albums off the top of my head which I considered as possible candidates for my top ten. You gave all but 4 a shout out in this video so I can't really argue with any of your choices Scot. My 4 outliers are Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile. PIL - Metal Box (2nd Edition). Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasure Dome (featuring some guy called Steve Howe on guitar. Wonder what happened to him🤔)
Metal Box!!! So good. Oddly enough, my wife even likes PiL.
Good idea for a program!
Odd that I hadn’t done this yet…
I love all songs in Physical Grafitti, my favorite double album
Hey Scot, what about Snow by Spock's Beard?
I kinda excluded the Modern releases but Snow qualifies and probably should have been there!!!
@@TheProgCornerChicago Transit Authority has more better deep cuts than Chicago 2. The only track on CTA that I could do without is Free Form Guitar. But Chicago 2 is great too.
I know its not remotely prog, but I think it would be really cool if you highlighted (or reviewed) Vampire Weekend's new album on your channel. For some reason, it think it would totally fit.
I agree!!! Been listening to it nonstop for a week!!! The band is back together again. Sort of.
He certainly saw the light!
I did!!!!
I shall concur with 19. 'London's Burning', but no Dave Greenslade's 'The Pentateuch' ? Missed a trick there bro. However, kudos for the shirt..
I forgot that was a double album!!! Fantastic!!!
