Thanks for the tip with stabilizer, added some today. I had to replace the needle and seat cleaned all jets and she runs like a top. Keep up the good work, love the videos.
Did it still leak gas out of the overflow after the rebuild? I have had mine rebuilt at the dealership with a new carb kit 2 times and it still leaks. I took mine apart by watching your video. I am gonna try a new float in hopes that helps. Thank you for doing such a good job with these videos.
Great video. I have a 1988 yamaha moto 4 350. My pilot jet does not have a hole all the way thru. The end appears to be solid brass. All videos I have seen shows the hole all the way thru?????
Hi there, great videos. I was cleaning my 1987 Big Bear 4X4 and now I have a small spring, rubber o ring and a flat washer. I'm pretty sure it goes with the what you call the "adjustment screw" which you didn't take apart in your part 2 video. Wondering in what order the parts go on the screw. Pretty it's the spring first, then the washer and then the o-ring. It was 2 turns out, does that sound right? Thanks a bunch.
This is a different carb then the one removed in first video #1. The original carb did not have rust and that isn't the same e intake.. original was still on engine???
hi these videos u posted are great helped me alot ! but recently i drowned my quad in a river ! i have drained all the fluids and replaced them but the quad turns over but wont start so i took the carb out draind and cleaned it as per your videos should i try to put in back in now or do u have any other suggestions??? sincerly 91 big bear 350...
i have the same carburetor on my yamaha warrior. You dont need to replace the needle, the metal part on the needle bends down and needs to get adjusted periodically
have you ever done a compression test on that bad boy sounds like it runs healthly, do yo still do work on this atv would love to see more vids on it mine is in getting a new top end at our local shop I"m using aftermarket parts tho
I have a Kodiak 400, and the probrem is that it makes noise as is accelerated and I've tried adjusting the valves and such but I've yet taken out the carb, do you think I'm goinna have to take it apart and clean it?
Have a 93 Kodiak 400 same carb. Cleaned it but didn't have a kit. So I put everything back nice and clean. Running great other then a real high idle. Any suggestions?
I have a 2007 Grizzly that sounds like its poping threw the carb. It also dies at idle. Only will idle with the choke closed a little,i tried to adjust the idle speed and its eather to fast or to slow and inconsistant.
Hey I have a problem with my yamaha 04 beartracker. When I start it, it will idle but when I rev it to about half throttle it'll start dying out, but once warmed up it'll work better and better. I'm pretty sure it's getting too much/too little air, any suggestions?
I have a 2000 Yamaha Warrior and I keep having to replace the needle and seat, it gets wicked gummed up with a brown resin that hardens like concrete. Do you have any recommendations? I'm not sure if it's due to bad gas or what but it's getting really annoying especially when the needle and seat is close to $60.00 at my Yamaha dealer.
hi do you know what the air mixture screw should be set at ? mine is a 95 yfm400fw Kodiak looks like the same carb not much info on the net 2-1/2 turns seems like the screw is out to far just as a baseline thanks
Good vid! I have a 1985 bigbear 350 that i'm having a bugger of a time with. Will start... and run pretty good at higher rpm's, but during idle and/or take off once warmed up.... keeps quitting on me. After that, no matter how much I adjust carb, it keeps quitting, making starting it again harder each time. Not too familiar with the in's and out's of small engines..... so any suggestions?? Thanks in advance to whoever has a solution!!
hi i drowned my 99 big bear in a pond and lots of water came in the exhaust i let it dry out for a wile and it will start but it takes a wile for it too and when i try to drive it it goes like 2mph on all the gears with the throttle all the way down... its like its topping out or some thing... any suggestions?
Thank you for the video good job. I have a 350 Big Bear and while I was trying to start the engine it would only run for a few seconds. The small of gas was very strong. I removed the seat and the air filter housing and ¼ of the housing was filled with gas/oily mixture of some sort. I keep the machine in the shop so there was no water in the system but it would not run very well at all. After removing the gas and cleaning up the machine I removed the crank case breather hose and while starting the engine it was running a lot better, but the hose was blowing gas and oil out of the breather hose. The longer I let it run the more gas came out until after 30 minutes it slow down and stopped. After 1 hour there was only a drop every two seconds coming out of the breather hose. The question is what caused it and what do I need to do to make it work better? I did let it run for about 2 to 3 hours. Any help would be great. Thank you for your videos.
Your Crankcase Breather tube filling up with excessive oil is probably due to, too much Blow By from the piston rings allowing air to pass by them (worn rings or damaged cylinder walls, most likely) You could try to re-ring but be ready to overhaul.
The only thing I saw that I would have done was remove the adjustment screw and cleaned it out... I know that it was running ok but gum builds up, and even if it is running ok at the time it doesn't mean there isn't some buildup.. Simple process... just note the position of the slot , mark it, countue number of 1/2 turns to lightly bottom it out , then return it to the original position the same number of 1/2 turns , stopping on your mark ... If it doesn't run the same , it's because there was gunk in the needle or seat ...but it will only be a slight adjustment left or right to correct it...
Hey I have a question about a [yamaha bear tracker 230cc 1999 2wd] it does not have a carburetor and i can't find some where to buy one , so do you know where i can get one for cheap???????
oh and the drowned quad here again when i turn over fuel comes out the drain hose and the overflow and air will not pass through when the float is up or down???
hi im working on a 80s yamaha big bear and i cant figure out how the air intake goes back on please write me back or send me a link to a video that would show me how to do it please and thank you
I have a 1989 YFM 200 DXW MOTO4 that I removed the carb to clean it after 5 years of inside storage. Unfortunately, I had left some fuel in the carb which turned into turpentine. My problem is that when I inadvertently removed the air mixture screw I forgot to flatten it out to determine how many 1/2 turns counter-clockwise out it should be. In the video at the 4:17 mark you decided not to remove it but could you tell me what the stock specs or "half turns" are for the mixture screw. Thanks for any advice you might have!
This is the best how-to video I have ever watched. Thanks!!
Thanks for the tip with stabilizer, added some today. I had to replace the needle and seat cleaned all jets and she runs like a top. Keep up the good work, love the videos.
Good advice on the float and jet test
@donyboy73 Got mine apart waiting on new carb kit and ordered a new float. Thank you again your awsome.
This video 10 years old but has good information.
@todd88100 you could use fuel stabilizer and also drain the carb by loosening the bottom plug, first turn off the fuel tank valve.
this is a great service you provide here man, i have subscribed you and realy appreciate you doing this!

@chevyownz123 u might try adjusting the idle screw
On my 03 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 i replaced the needle/seat and Main jet along with the diagram and needle set. Bowl gasket as well.
@corvetteboy123 also check the throttle cable
Great vid, Don! Real informative.

let the carb dry good in the sun maybe, as long as everything has been drained and turn the engine over with the plug out firt to spray out any water

you should open up the carb and let it dry thoroughly
i recommend getting an original kit at your local Yamaha dealer

If you clean a lot of carbs, a torch cleaning kit would be a good investment for the jets.
That could get you into trouble if you aren't careful... you can accidentally open up a jet that way ..
I bought a new carburetor today for my atv 4wheeler moto4 Yamaha an I put it on an its flooding out what to do

I just bought a 95 Yamaha moto 4 350. It has the exact same carb. Runs great, but won't idle no matter what 😒

Hi friend. Welcome to my neighborhood. I like sweaters........do you like sweaters......??? See you next time.
That's a little more involved than a lawnmower carburetor.
