Man, thank you so much for this video. I'm going to install a new $30 Chinese knockoff carburetor in my 2000 Yamaha Big Bear 400 until I can get the OEM rebuilt. This is the best, most detailed video I've seen so far on the subject.
I need help on mine, I know there is two breather lines but where does the third one connect to? Or is it another third breather like, is the one that connects to the top side of the carburetor right above the fuel line
i have one more Question which way does the little brass piece go before you put the main jet in does the wide end go in first or the skinny end i didnt see which way it fell out
Hey i hope you see this comment, i found a brand new OEM carburetor for a 2003 Yamaha Big Bear 400 but i have a 2001. Do you know if they are the same/interchangeable? Thank you for the video!
if the engines have same displacement then it will probably work. you need to compare the main end 2nd jet size and make sure they match. if not then you can use the jets from the old carb on the new carb. assuming they are clean. and dont buy knock off carbs unless you hate your self. a new mikuni is $200
A friend bought an aftermarket carb, he removed the old and started putting on the aftermarket and got stuck. I helped him out in that area but my question is, we don't know where some of the tubes go. The small nipple under the carb, you mentioned as the "overflow" that must be a single smaller tube simply going to drain if needed? Under the seat is two holes where two black hoses simply set there. The left hole goes to a "T" connector and I think attaches to the upper right of the carb on the choke side?? Does this simply go down through the frame as a drain or does the end hook to something? The right hole under the seat, where does this hose go to? I think we have too much "AIR" the machine will start but idling is way high! IF I put my fingers on the T tube the rpms goes down and then will stall. I wish I had taken it apart from the start. I think we could have cleaned the carb in the beginning. Originally it wouldn't start. He pulled the plug and looked for spark and fuel came pumping out the cylinder. Float stuck?? He is not very mechanical at all. Neither am i either but a tad more maybe. Great information, sincerely thank you so much!
I would suggest not using aftermarket carbs. They'll just make you pull your hair out. Buy an OEM carb or rebuild the original with quality parts. Those Amazon/ eBay China carbs aren't very good. It's been a while since I worked on that machine so I can't remember hose routing. The hose on the bowl is an overflow/ drain. The others should just be breathers.
@@jlspowersportshobbies4568 Thank you for the reply and the promptness. I am going to order a kit for the original. For some reason he took of the black cover on the top and now the spring is missing. His words, " I didn't see one" You can see what I am up against? I see kits , but no single kit with slide spring (missing now) and the diaphragm. Would you recommend a PN please? I do not have a clue on how you tube channels work, and if it helps to subscribe. Your videos are awesome, the reason I too subscribed. Thank You
@@davidpatterson5728 thanks for the subscription. 5DM-14933-00-00 is the part number for an 03 Yamaha big bear 400. Assuming the one you're working with is around the same year. You can find OEM parts on rockymountainatvmc.com
Depends how dirty the carbs are. Some can be cleaned with just carb cleaner spray. Others need to soak in a gunk carb cleaner. If the carb has corrosion I use a baking soda blaster.
Sorry I don't remember what exactly I used on this one. I do have 3 methods depending how bad the carb is. If they aren't too dirty it just get sprayed out with carb cleaner. If they have a decent coating of grime I soak them in a carb bath. Then lastly if they are terrible dirty I have a baking soda blaster to clean them.

It should only fit and insert one way. The rounded side goes towards the round side of the emulsion tube.

I would compare the oem part numbers on rock mountains website to be sure they match for the two different years. It's possible they'd be the same.
Ok thank you.
The site you recommended is showing the same carb, and rebuild kits for both years so i may go ahead and get that oem carb. Thank you again!

Shit, I never put the year, sorry!! Dahhhh. It’s a 2000 Yamaha big bear 400
@@davidpatterson5728 Same part number as the one I gave you 5DM-14933-00-00 Good luck with the rebuild.
What steps did you take to clean the carburetor?

So what is the two wires going to the bottom of that? Carburetor what is that sensor for?
That is the carburetor heater.
what carb kits do you recomend
I've had good luck with shindy kits. Sometimes I just buy individual OEM parts rather than getting a kit.

@@jlspowersportshobbies4568 nice thanks man
What are the 2 wires that connect to the Carb do?
Those are for the carburetor heater. Power and ground.
