SPOT WHAT BBC HASN'T DONE: Turn Big Finish audios into animations? No. Turn Big Finish audio series into live action series? No. Capitalised on the popularity of characters like the 8th Doctor, War Doctor, UNIT or others being given audio series at Big Finish? No. Engaging fan creators, like good ole Josh Snares, to employ them to create what they have proven can be popular with fellow fans? No and Yes. And YET fans do the above? Am I the only one who sees SO MUCH potential spin off or utilizing of the Doctor Who mythos being wasted? There's more than the 10th Doctor... just saying.
Superbly done Josh! And great to see this getting some well deserved recognition in an official capacity. If I myself were ever so bold as to undertake an animation, I’d definitely go for one of the ninth Doctor adventures, as those usually have small casts and limited locations. It would be a toss up between either ‘Monsters in Metropolis’ or ‘Fond Farewell.’
"The Brink of Death" is a good choice. I have seen a number animations of 6's regeneration scene on RUclips and it would be fun to see fully animated version of that adventure.
In answer to your question of "what would YOU animate?": the first thing that jumped to mind was Storm Warning, the first 8th Doctor audio from Big Finish. Heck, all of McGann's audios, why not.
A story I'd like to see animated (maybe even animated myself a few years down the line if I get a bit of free time / become a competent animator) is The Elite, a fifth doctor audio. I've recently got into Big Finish, and the Elite is one of my favorite stories I've listened to so far.
I, Davros is the stody I'd most want to see animated. Its a fantastic exploration of Davros' character, an amazing lead up to Genesis of the Daleks, and could be enjoyed by everyone given that the audiodrama is free on Spotify.
I have to say that your animation was what made me decide to buy a Big Finish audio to experience it. I'm grateful that you've spent this time and energy to create something and share it with the fans.
This is so cool! I’ll have to check it out here soon. If I could animate an episode I wouldn’t mind taking a stab at a missing episode. Maybe space pirates to try and up the budget from the tv production, but that’s the charm of it of course. Either that or a 6th Doctor big finish because other than 2, 6 is a favorite of mine.
I watched it (in sync with the BF audio),and absolutely loved it :) I also drew attention to your animation via posting on several fan forums. It was excellent work, and I can't commend you enough! I actually drew an intake of breath just now when you announced the title of your next project. A landmark BigFinish release deserves a landmark animation from you :) (Have you contacted Colin Baker? He's bound to offer support!)
I’d 100% animate Big Finish. Whilst I’m not too keen on Out of Time 1, it’s the perfect choice for a first animation. I think maybe something from the Tenth Doctor Adventures would be good (Vol 3 preferably)
And yet if he up loads with with sound he'd get a copyright strike by the same company that has FAILED to create animation/live action versions of Big Finish. This is promoting Doctor Who to not only fans but viewers completely new to Doctor Who. It also demonstrates how successful this would be if done by the BBC and Big Finish.

The Big Finish audios I’d love to see fan animated are The Sontaran’s (the First Doctor’s encounter with title monster’s alongside Steven and Sara Kingdom (it was right after their terrible Christmas adventure in Silent Film Era Hollywood, so their were no cliffhangers that set in stone what would happen next)), and Home Truths (also a Doctor, Steven and Sara Kingdom adventure, this time in an old seemingly haunted house in an indeterminate future).
Really interesting to hear about the behind the scenes for this. I’ve been thinking of trying to learn Adobe character animator myself (not for anything as big as this just an animated avatar in my videos) but, like you, don’t consider myself able to draw so haven’t gotten around to it.
Great video Josh! In my opinion you look way better on camera without the bright colored key light behind you. Keep up the great content on RUclips. I'm glad you are following your passions.

Amazing! I animated a couple of particular scenes from Big Finish stories last year in Blender, but not done a full story yet. People have been asking me to, though, and your animation just gives me the motivation to want to do it even more! Just imagine how cool it would be if we had animated versions of each story. I really do need to learn how to model characters, though, I can only do Daleks as characters so far. But I'm gonna try anyway. 😅
For someone who barely passed Introduction to CGI, you've certainly done far better than I ever could have. Best of luck with The Brink of Death animation! And yes, The Web of Fear Episode 3 deserves to be ragged on. I mean, those Yeti look awful!
I'd love to see some of Big Finish's stories get this treatment. 'Jubilee', 'Storm Warning', '...ish', 'Night Thoughts', 'Spare Parts' the list goes on.

Youn know what I like about you, you're those people who say they're rubbish at something and can't do something(whether you were joking about it) but when they actually do it they're actually good at it. Unlike those, 'look at me! I'm a popular RUclipsr with 20k, pride, pride, boast, boast, I can do anything." It does make you seem humble and modest.
I'm considering animating The Scorchies since I recently bought that in a sale and have listened to it about 5 times because its such a fun small scale story. One set, 90% of the characters are puppets and not even humanoids and one is literally called Cool Cat and says the line "Oh that's cool as milk that is." A fun romp with musicals. The only reason I want to animate it is because of you and everyone else who does fan animations on RUclips. It's inspiring stuff so Thank You once more for the wonderful release of Out of Time Animated.
@@JoshSnares It's one of those episodes that makes me really wish for a Doctor Who episode that is just a musical episode. It's an interesting challenge; if I had the means and the freedom, what would I make? Probably a massive Master story, with Roger Delgado's Master along with a lesser used badie like the Rutans, Fendahlians or Great Vampires. Not sure which Doctor I would use. Pertwee seem obvious.
Well if you can do that Josh then surely the BBC can animate the entire missing episodes in a similar way on a cheap budget? I think some of McCoy's audios deserve animating because I think they need visuals to get more out of McCoy's Doctor. I don't believe he got the best Big Finish stories anyway, but his Doctor does suffer from not being seen. "Spare Parts" would be cool too.
Hello Josh Wasn’t sure on how to reach you, so I hope you don’t mind me messaging you on Instagram, I saw your documentary on the ‘out of time’ animated film you made. At the end of the video you mention about doing ‘the brink of death’, and I would like to help you. During the animation of ‘The invasion’ they had a stand for Patrick Troughton in some shots to help them animate. I am an actor and Sixth Doctor cosplayer, I have studied how Colin Baker moves and emotes, if you need help with how Colin would move in specific shots (I.e. the Regeneration or being brought into the matrix) I would like to try a few recording of those scenes, then send them to you, to help you animate. This is so you can get an idea on how it could be shot. If you want some evidence on some of my previous sixth Doctor work I can send you some of my live action Big Finish recreations I have been doing since lockdown. If you don’t need any standings that’s fine too. All the best on your next project. - Henry.
This vid has inspired me to try and get my Doctor Who story animated. Hopefully I can because I’m like you and can’t draw. Writing however like having a sonic. I would love to see my story of the 15th Doctor animated. If I could see animated the missing ep of Marco Polo that would be Fantastic!
I am not sure on an episode, although The Pescatons comes to mind....but I am an Action Figure guy. I would love to see animations done in a stop motion- Robot Chicken way with Character Options Action Figures and Accessories. Doing it myself is far out of my wheel house, but to see these efforts would be great. Thank you for all you do!
Enjoyed the video, although all the different animation software programmes mean mince to me. Animated episode looks good too and interesting to see how you get on with the sixth Doctor's costume. If I had the ability and patience I would animate the 13th Doctor episodes, I do think Adele would have given a better portrayal and there are some very good female impressionists out there that could redo the dialogue
'I can't and I won't animate 100s of Doctor Who stories, it's a lot of work for one person.' Have faith in yourself, Josh, don't sell yourself short. ;)
If I ever decide to animate one of Doctor Who's audios I would rather animate one of the audios where they explain how did Sylvester McCoy's Doctor let Ace go.
Oh, did you see those Marco Polo scenes I animated? It was meant to be a full animation, but I just kinda dropped it And yeah animation software is real tricky. I basically tried to just skip it for that I admit I haven't watched the Out of Time animation yet, but I intend to see it soon
G'day from Australia Josh, I loved your animation and watched it with my big finish audio playing. Superb quality and obvious love for your craft . Bravo kid , keep em coming .....
Excellent video
I am not sure on an episode, although The Pescatons comes to mind....but I am an Action Figure guy. I would love to see animations done in a stop motion- Robot Chicken way with Character Options Action Figures and Accessories. Doing it myself is far out of my wheel house, but to see these efforts would be great. Thank you for all you do!
If I had to animate any doctor who episode it would big finishes patient zero
Enjoyed the video, although all the different animation software programmes mean mince to me. Animated episode looks good too and interesting to see how you get on with the sixth Doctor's costume.
If I had the ability and patience I would animate the 13th Doctor episodes, I do think Adele would have given a better portrayal and there are some very good female impressionists out there that could redo the dialogue
this is so cool, the animation style is awesome. are you going to comic-con this weekend?
'I can't and I won't animate 100s of Doctor Who stories, it's a lot of work for one person.' Have faith in yourself, Josh, don't sell yourself short. ;)
Very well done on this one, though, and thanks for making a video like this.
You're great.
If I ever decide to animate one of Doctor Who's audios I would rather animate one of the audios where they explain how did Sylvester McCoy's Doctor let Ace go.
Oh, did you see those Marco Polo scenes I animated? It was meant to be a full animation, but I just kinda dropped it
And yeah animation software is real tricky. I basically tried to just skip it for that
I admit I haven't watched the Out of Time animation yet, but I intend to see it soon
G'day from Australia Josh, I loved your animation and watched it with my big finish audio playing. Superb quality and obvious love for your craft . Bravo kid , keep em coming ..... I was thinking 'Masterful' as an option if you are taking requests 😂
Id love to see you do an entirely original animation.
I write myself , should you ever consider a collaboration with anybody, please HMU for chat. I have got literally hundreds of original story's, ideas, concepts for the Doctor Who universe I'd be happy to share with you .
Don't worry about rigging, even in Macra Terror, the best quality animation, they couldn't animate the dancers in one of the first shots
Hey Josh would you ever an doctor who animated project for the audiobooks or some of the books
Probably not, the audio books can go up to 10 hours!
This is a great walk through. Did you edit each scene in its own sequence or did you do the whole hour in one massive sequence?
One massive sequence!
Beautiful work.
Just the Savages to do..... 😀
It was a great anninmation you did a great job
Will you ever release the making off galaxy 4 video
It's a guilty pleasure of mine
Maybe one day!
@@JoshSnares shame you wasn't a fan of the anninmation
