I can't enter if i live in Aus right?
I love how they're casting normal-looking people as normal-looking people.
A Kansas farmer who actually looks like a Kansas farmer
They complain if he was black now he's not handsome enough when he's an old man?
This guy is a great underrated actor.
I think it’s hilarious that the internet freaks out whenever Tom Holland or Chris Pratt gets cast in something but then gets mad when Pa Kent isn’t hot enough.
Facts
The man is a great actor love his work in Tru Blood especially good
As a parent, I love what your Mom said, Tommy. IF you see this, give her a hug and tell her thanks for verbalizing something I knew but never put it into words so elegantly.
I, too, can’t stop thinking about that and it’s making me teary
Oh this is wild, I saw the thumbnail and was like "oh that makes sense". Didn't expect there were people unhappy but not surprised. lol
I loved Pa and Martha Kent from Lois & Clark. They were perfect. Great casting, well written, brilliantly acted. I trust James Gunn.
I know I'd feel better if he was still at marvel especially if he was doing Secret Wars.
agree, I loved the Kents on Lois and Clark. Such a great charisma and gravitas.
I still remember when Ma showed up on Lois’s doorstep to chat, and eventually said “this is So Nice. You’re the first woman I’ve ever been able to talk to about my son.” 😍😭😭😭
Man I loved this guy in the mentalist
Everyone on Screen Crush is Awesome. I love you all, keep fighting the good fight ❤
This is why the movie isn’t called “The Kents”
Im really interested to see how they'll use Pa and Ma Kent in this movie. James Gunn said he based this film in honour of his own father so I can very much see Pa Kent in this movie really be a positive and loving father for Clark and hopefully this time they don't kill him off, or at least they don't kill him in such a dumb way like a tornado in Man of Steel
He bases a well known character on his father instead of, you know, the literature available. He chooses Damian, certainly not because he’s fan favorite, but because it’s his favorite. The superman logo looks like a worm being strangled.
Great.
@@darkzq NO! Look at it again it's an S but it's not an S it stands for Hope Duh. It needs to tie in with the movie. 🍿🎥
@@darkzqwho cares no one has ever cared about his earth parents until they became part of the cast. His dad is just supposed to raise him right that's all the character calls for
The best Jonathan Kent was John Schneider on Smallville.
HARD Agree!
I don't get the backlash, he's the phenomenal actor. And I think he'll nail that role.
The backlash is from Snyder "fans". That's literally it. All the normal fans, at least the wide majority of them, like the casting just fine. Anytime you see a "backlash" online after a DCU announcement it is 99% of the time from the Snyder bros.
It's backlash from fake DC fans AKA Snyder Cultists. Just ignore them they are just escaped Arkham Asylum patients.
Wait till you see the movie - it’s all about the writing.
😂😂😂😂😂
We all know fans hate average looking relatable characters in their superhero movies lol
Personally, I think John Schnider was the perfect Johnathan Kent in Smallville. He was there for Clark when he got the majority of his powers and constantly re-assured him that he was loved and that when it was Clark's time to shine that he was going to do great things. I know James Gunn is as great with writing emotional dialogue as he is with comedic, so I trust that he'll write Clark and Johnathan's dynamic as grounded as possible. The whole reason why James Gunn is writing and directing the film is to serve as a tribute to his father as he said on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast.
How his dad looks has never been important just the values he instilled in him smh people complain too much i wonder if he was a handsome black dad of Clark how'd they feel lol
I think that it’s telling that these two didn’t mention John Schneider as it goes against the narrative they want to paint and the personal bias they have in relation to the casting couch
I liked Man of Steel, but Pa Kent was one of the worst parts of that movie.
The reason Clark was so happy after he "met" Jor El was because Jor El was the one who told Clark to use his gifts, to be a beacon of hope and change and goodness. This was such a stark contrast to Pa because Pa kept holding him back.
Also, Pa kept telling Clark to hide his powers, not to demonstrate how special he was, because he was afraid of how the world would react, but Pa was the one who showed some of the Keyptonian tech to a scientist! That was a HUGE risk to expose what was going on in that household!
And let's not even get started on Pa's death scene, or the fact that he inexplicably had a weird southern accent in that dream sequence in Justice League.
Snyder should've never been involved with DC his films were terrible. Why couldn't DC hire Brad Bird to direct Man of Steel? That would've been a fantastic movie.
Snyder cultists are bad faith actors and should be ignored.
Gunn and his team have always been great at casting and these roles are no different. I just hope Jonathan Kent has a little gray hair on his head like on Superman for all Seasons and Superman TAS. His actor is bald but he can wear a wig and/or a hat.
Wigs are hit or miss. They should just leave him bald.
I dont think they are hit or miss. You only notice a small number of bad ones. Its like GCI. Most people don't realize what they are watching is CGI in alot of things. Same could be applied here wig plus CGI. They aren't hit or muss. It's like 90/10.
@miniwolfsbane2407
I like Snyder, I like Gunn, and I especially like the Gunn/Snyder team (Dawn of the Dead).
Who cares as long as he has salt and pepper in his beard no wig necessary. Superman looks like Superman that's what matters the most what his earth dad looks like isn't all that important as long as he's not black all of a sudden & I'm black lol.
@@michaelschaub4267 Comic books just aren't Zack Snyder's thing. He should stick to zombie flicks.
"Snyder fans revolt" Good. Then we are moving in the right direction.
FACTS 😂
Yeah, why do things that the fans like…much more important to lose billions to push The Message to normal people who spend money
@@davedisanti1298 Fans of Snyder are not the only fans! His movies are not all bad, just gloomy, and it's time to try something different for Clark imo. 🦸♀️
@@irmese06 That’s not my point
@@irmese06 They are all bad because he doesn't understand the characters. The only good thing about the Snyderverse is the casting, visuals, and fight scenes that's it. The overall films are garbage. Henry, Ben, and Gal deserved better than Zack Snyder.
One of my favorite character actors! I think he'll do great and bring something new to the character.
I really like this actor and wish we saw him more.
I would like to see more of those intimate character-building moments for Clark Kent / Superman in a film or animation. A scene where, as a young person, he accidentally harms someone or kills a pet because he briefly became impatient. His father listening as Clark realizes in his regret that he can never let his passions rule him. A pillow-talk scene where he explains to Lois that she has the same weight as a feather, that he must embrace her as gently as handling a delicate bird, where she breaks the gloom by joking, “So I’m your chick?” A scene where young Superman meets a President for the first time and they hash out an understanding and build some mutual trust. So, basically, a movie with dialogue like Oppenheimer but with Clark Kent as the protagonist.
Always love tommys input in these videos!😅
Snyder wrote that his PA Kent basically committed suicide. Nah.....
By tornado 🌪️
@@Dru2037☹️✋🏿
That scene was meh
Also Snyder's Pa Kent thought a bus full of children should drown. Snyder just doesn't get comic books. I'm so glad he's gone. Keep that dude away from DC.
@@callmejacob3234But he aesthetically NAILED Batman. The Aesthetics of all the Snyderverse just looked fucking FLAWLESS. But some of that story like Jonathan Kent killing himself by Tornado was pretty stupid.
The new Pa Kent casting is great!
The same people saying they don’t look like each other are the ones who said, “mermaids aren’t a black” 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
That part 😂
I lol’d
Yes… this DEI bullshit is costing Hollyweird billions…how did that Snow White test screening go
Yes! Lol
People complained about Ariel’s casting because it was inaccurate to the original cartoon.
I liked John Schneider as Pa Kent in the Smallville series
I don't exactly see it, but In Gunn I trust.
Snyderverse fans need to watch Rebel Moon Parts 1 & 2. That'll cure their blind devotion...
Stinky Womack is always who I see/think of when I hear Pruitt Taylor Vince’s name…. My favorite role of his. “We got apps!”
I have to say that Gunn gets characters, he’ll hit the mark here. I also watched the “Adventures of Lois and Clark” growing up. That Pa Kent was a great fit and felt completely natural.
Wow that's the dude who kept breaking bottles of liquor in Constantine and I won't be able to not see that 😅
Honestly I think the only reason I didn't vibe with the casting is he doesn't look like what I would think Pa Kent would look like. That being said I've never seen this guy in anything and I'm excited for Gunn's DCU so screw it as long as he delivers good character moments I'm on board.
I love these casting choices. It feels like a cross between the Kents castings from Superman The Movie and Lois & Clark The New Adventures Of Superman. I hope James Gunn keeps both Ma And Pa Kent alive so that Clark has someone to confide in.
You lost me when you said you were a fan of man of steel and Henry caville portrayal. Like... wat...
My dream Pa Kent casting is Australian actor Robert Taylor. Watch Longmire. He's literally the guy. I have no doubt Taylor Vince will kill it though.
No not at all. He looks like pa kent if pa kent owned a ranch in yellowstone
@@akshayde AHahAhaHAhahAHh!

WE NEED MORE DOUG 🎉
People just need to remember to trust James Gunn's vision. The man is a genius and he hasn't let us down
The amount of puns in the video is inversely proportional to Ryan's presence
I do kinda wish we'd all quit giving these Snyder "fans" what they want. They want attention, and anytime a semi-major YT outlet like this one so heavily focuses on their internet hate campaigns, I feel like, in a way, you're just giving them more reason to keep behaving the way they behave. I'm rooting so hard for this Superman movie to he great, that would go a long way in hushing them up.
The casting for Ma Kent is amazing
That movie with Jon Cusack he played in as a Psychotic guy with Multiple personalities was by far the best acting I ever seen ina suspense movie.
Thank you guys for your contrast of perspective. As a Snyderverse fan everything you’ve said makes sense and gives me a little more “hope” James Gunn will create something ALL fans will love. Most toxic DCEU/DCU fans aren’t even real Snyderverse fans btw….
❤
The only way you get Kal through now… Ma and Pa Kent had a child… was about same age… got sick… taking him to hospital… dies in truck… parents crying on way to hospital… ship crashes… they have him replace their Clark and bury their real son on the farm… now has birth certificate, social and no fingerprints on file with hospital
WB-Discovery have been courting a very specific demographic for years, I am not the least bit surprised that there is such toxicity over appearance.
My opinion, or my view of this man as Johnathan Kent is not TOXIC....I just don't like the casting, and I don't think he fits the Mold as Johnathan Kent. There's nothing toxic about that. Now, if I were to try and push my opinion on you and try to make you have the same opinion and view as me, THEN that would be toxic.
I LOVE SOCIAL Media!! I love the HATERS, Haters make you Stronger. The more haters the more Bullets James Gunn has for this MOVIE 😊😊. Meaning he can tweek it change a little here aliitle there, the haters are making it worse for themselves I love it 😂🤣
he will be amazing.... dude is such a great actor and definitely comes across as a Pa Kent type guy
Tommy move that wire from under the tv and the on air sign a little more to the left. Nice setup
This guy is an excellent actor. Definitely underrated!
Snyder’s pa Kent was cheeks.
Definitely
When I look at the actors cast as the Kent's. All I think about is how much they must have crushed the auditions for these characters. The Snyder cultists are some of the most toxic folks on the Internet. So I'm not surprised about the comparisons. To them Man of Steel is the greatest movie ever to exist and Snyder invented filmmaking.
The dude is an underrated actor
Honestly I'm just not excited about any of Gunn's stuff. I mean, I can't make a judgement until I see it so it might work. I do feel sad that "fandome" is just so all or nothing. I love MoS, it is my favorite Superman movie. If I say that I get people attacking me for being a "Snyderbot" and not being able to "let go". When all I said was I loved MoS. lol I also find it hilarious that in the same message they will tell me to "let go of Cavill as Superman" but then say how no one can be as good as Reeve. The hypocrisy. It's like why can't things be a range. I liked most Superman stuff. Just because I think MoS is the best doesn't mean I don't like Reeve or Routh.
That being said, it is a double edge sword for sure. Those that love Cavill and can't be open minded for the new stuff is just as close minded.
I agree with Tommy's take almost entirely. We don't need a sexy pa kent.
That being said, Colton and Tommy, you both need to exercise more. being overweight is hard on your health and I would like to see you both get into better physical shape. Not as a dig, but out of caring.
BIG Facts.
You know, I had never thought about it until he mentioned it, BUT, even if he was super thin, I'd love to see Tommy as Mojo, for his energy alone. I think he'd be able to do Mojo perfectly. He just gets bonus points for happening to be able to visually represent him also
Huge Kal- El fan, and I think that different takes on films calls for different casting choices. This movie is going to be interesting from David to Nicholas to now Pruitt.
Love this casting can’t wait to see what they bring to the rolls … also Tommy for Bibo Bibowski🎉
This is a GREAT discussion and as a big guy myself…. I hope we can talk about the toxic stuff more and not take it in silence, honestly…..i really appreciate the discussion….also I applied for the sweepstakes, thanks!!!!!
This is very good casting, I’m so excited for Superman
Snyder fans have made a monster of that man. Rebel moon 2 has no excuse for being as terrible as it is.
oh dang really? I've been too nervous to watch the Rebel Moon movies.
How does Zack Snyder of all people have a cult following? People must really love terrible movies.
That Pa Kent casting is spot on! I'm finally looking forward to a Superman film. All the DC films have just been so.... ugh.
I worked with Pruitt before. He's a top notch guy.
I like that actor. He usually plays a creep, so him playing Pa Kent will be great. Not only Lois and Clark, I think the Jonathan kent from Superboy was regular looking guy too.
Tommy is my new choice for casting Scott Summers!!! Lets go!!!
Remember when Craig was picking for bond and the outcry that caused
He's blonde and he doesn't look right
And then casino royale came out and everyone couldn't praise him enough
So I say wait and see and give Pruitt a chance
It's a modern rural conservative self image thing, but hollywood's historical glam shares much of the blame. Thanks to Bro-Country with its vast array of JCrew models who make careers putting out cookie cutter anthems patronizing and romanticizing midwest/southern life, rural folk enjoy the flattery and have a problem with hollywood portraying them as they actually are. Especially when there's pretty good odds that they'll cast some Pierce Brosnan level dude as Thomas Wayne. We'll see how it goes, but if they're going to portray the Kent household more realistically(which I'm ALL IN on), then let's see them do that with the rest of the supporting cast.
Great casting for Ma and Pa. And Lois. I was being crotchety before but I’m on board
I feel like the venn diagram of people bitching about this casting and the people bitching about the female Adeptus Custodes would be a perfect circle.
Nope.
Great to see "average" looking people cast in these parts - way more relatable!
Colton, yes, some fans were upset with the casting of Keaton. Adam West came on to talk about it on a couple of the radio stations in Columbus, Ohio, when I was a freshman at Ohio State. The Internet, in 1989, probably not so much. Though there probably were some folks dialing into a BBS somewhere to complain. I heard it more at the comic book shop than anywhere else. I'm old. :)
There was no INTERNET in 1989 like what we have now. Sure there were computers, but there were no social media sites like facebook or twitter, there was no RUclips. It was all basic computer stuff back then. And it was all dial up slow poke crap that took forever to do anything.
I loved this guy's performance as LaRoche from The Mentalist. Excellent performer and sure will do justice for his role.
I think James Gunn doesn't intend on doing the origin story in his superman movie. We've seen that too many times and none of the other characters announced fit into an origin movie. This'll be just another superman adventure.
He was really good in Deadwood. Character progression out the wazoo in that role.
I think the casting is great, have loved his performances in many things like Justified, Constantine, House M.D. etc
Wait are we calling Kevin Costner hott?
He looks heroic which makes Superman seem a little less super. Similarly, if you cast a short Lois it naturally makes Superman seem taller and more super.
As An old fart (I saw the Reeves movies at the theater) I am excited with this casting. I am looking forward to this movie because James Gunn is handling it.
Tommy B would make a great Anti- Monitor
Lets b honest here. Snyder's version of Pa Kent committed suicide by nature cuz he felt Clark's secret was more important. That was not something no father would do. Now, Yondu sacrificed himself to sav his his adopted son Peter. That was emotional & relatable cuz parents will sacrifice themselves to sav their children. You can not really compare these two deaths as equal. Thats crazy talk. The only true real death of Pa Kent is Richard Donner's version. Clark having that last conversation with Pa bout why Clark was sent to earth for a reason. Then Clark was feeling better until Clark wanted to race with his dad not knowing that would cause a stroke & Pa Kent dropped dead of natural causes. That was as real as it gets. Ill never lose that scene
He played Otis from the walking dead omg 😱
Tommy is like salt or beef bacon. He makes everything better!
I trust James Gunn🤔
Hurry up and make more vids before Uncle Ryan comes back from the bathroom...I love the tones of Ryan's videos of course, and at the same time it's cool to have this 2nd avenue where Colton and Tommy do their takes (plus a sometimes guest)...you guys are real, and don't hate or start drama for the clicks nor lolz and I respect your honest opinions over all...also very funny and whether you liked it or not I'm all around interested in what you all have to say about each topic...keep bringing Tommy on bc he really makes Colton and himself into a great team and when Ryan is there too it's my favorite vids on the RUclipss atm...best part of my day is driving home from work watching the daily vid while in traffic
James Gunn is going to get this right and the new DC films will be excellent, I predict
Ryan's not in the rest room...he's been dusted!
So far my favorite Jonathan Kent has been Eddie Jones in Lois & Clark. I don’t know this new actor’s work well enough to have an educated opinion on his casting. This movie will succeed or fail based on how it’s advertised first and script second. I’m choosing to stay positive and hope for the best. As long as James Gunn doesn’t go down hill the same way Joss Whedon did after the first Avengers we should be okay. I want to love this movie when it comes out, and I want everyone else to love it too.
My problem with this casting versus Snyder’s, is that I question whether this Pa Kent will be willing enough to let innocent children perish? Snyder’s shown us that’s an important part of the character 😅
in some DC animated shows, there are different representations of Jonathan Kent, old and a bit fat and wrinkly... so i don't mind if they casted him...he is good a good actor playing most as villain, now it would seem nice playing on the good side...
Exactly. Good to see a decent actor play against type. Plus, I like how they're challenging the whole 'fat, homely Southern man of a certain age must be an evil redneck' stereotype, and instead casting the guy as one of the most upstanding characters in comic-book lore.
Was hoping you guys were going to mention Smallville the really started the "hot" ma and pa Kent
I'm glad they went with an actor. A good character actor. It means they value the acting over the look. That's good.
Great conversation, really appreciate your thoughts and opinions.
1:04 Great casting and yeah, these fans shouldn’t be attacking others because they’ve decided to move away the DCEU rebooting. That’s kinda toxic. Some of these fans are even sending actors death threats. Now they’re just taking things way too far over a movie franchise. Like oh god, I can’t remember how many times I’ve been attacked for self defense. Because now they’re just making it seem like we’re harassing them. Like it is sad that Henry won’t get to play Superman, but there’s no need to attack others who aren’t supporting what you want.
Great casting choices! I can’t wait to see Ma n Pa Kent have a fried chicken dinner with Supes :D PS: also a huge fan of Tommy’s takes, love seeing the dude on here ❤
Well said guys. I think that you had some very valid points.
I grew up with John Schneider as Pa Kent. Can't wait to see what the new guy brings to the role.
Jon bernthal should play Jor-el as joke for walking dead fans
I've been watching that actor act for decades now.. he is truly amazing and he has a wide range and depth..
Also, those going on about his 'looks'.. two simple facts, one practical, one lore related..
It's a Hollywood big budget film with access to all the latest film makeup and CGI in the world..
And secondly, Pa Kent is NOT Superman's BIOLOGICAL DAD. Lol.. why would he look exactly like him? Also, people age and change, sometimes dramatically.
People will bitch about ANY casting that doesn't fit their own ideas.. I was mistaken about Keaton (tho in honesty he makes for a better Bruce Wayne than Batman really but still brings it to Batman as well) and fully realized how wrong it was to make assumptions when I found out Ledger was The Joker AFTER THE FACT.. I'd missed he was in the role and was like, man, whomever played him was AMAZING. Only to find out it was Ledger and have my Jaw Drop.. I knew exactly who he was and what he looked like, yet while watching The Dark Knight never once did I realize or recognize that I was seeing Heath Ledger of RomCom and a Knights Tale pretty boy fame.. I was SO bowled over and impressed, I vowed to do my best to not make an assumption before seeing the actual goods.. as obviously, you really can't tell ahead of time..
And that was true of Pattinson's The Batman as well. He killed it for that film, tho I had already seen much of his acting range beforehand in the Indy films he did.. (and I despise Twilight to this day, but it wasn't made for me..)
Affleck made sense, but it did seem a bit lazy a choice. Also while I respect Snyder's attempts and saw what he was going for... Snyder got a lot wrong, in my opinion, he's like one step or so from actually being a truly great director.. he often always misses out on certain aspects.. Batman is an avatar of both Fear and Will power. He specifically doesn't use guns as a choice.. he should not kill, though it is an interesting choice to have him go cynical and tired after the death of Todd. We have a bit of a broken Bat (for Superman to Re-inspire). just needs its own focused storyline, not as a side character trait without a real arc. I think that both the watchmen and Snyder's DC stuff suffered due to Snyder's 'vision' but I do respect that he had one..
That's the thing about these characters and all the different amazing runs/stories we got from them over the modern years.. all the variations on them. I respect that Snyder has his own version and vision.. and that it was less him and more the chaos at the film studio and real life tragedy that derailed his epic.. he took swings that were too large. I got the reasoning behind 'Martha' but the execution was just so bad.. no one calls their parent by their first name in an emotional plea.. it's 'Mom' or 'Mother'.. he also threw way too many stories at once at the wall in Dawn of Justice.. not enough world building..
But again, I do not lay this all at Snyder's feet.. the studio did so much wrong and tried to take shortcuts to their own MCU.. we should have maybe gotten man of steel 2 and a Batman focused film plus wonder woman first.. then maybe a BvS.. and then a three part epic for the Justice League.. with Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg films released alongside maybe. (Or alternating years). I dunno, but they definitely rushed it and Snyder.. who has always been better at visuals and individual scenes than anything else.
I will say, the Snyder cut, while still inherently flawed, is vastly superior to the theatrical cut of Justice League..
And I will add this about Snyder's the Watchmen.. while it is almost as a faithful panel to screen adaptation as one can visually get, it really misses the overall point of the source material in some fundamental ways.. I don't even at all mind the Manhattan/Squid changeup in any way. In fact, I thought that was very clever and might of even be something improved over the original story..
I'm no purist by any means.. and these are just my opinions.. Snyder is not a great filmmaker.. but I do appreciate that he cares for the source material, I'm just not a huge fan.. if you are, that's great. My opinion shouldn't matter to you then.
Gunn has a great track record, tho he lost me a little in championing 'The Flash's with his hyperbolically positive review.. he deserves leeway. It may or may not ultimately work as a casting, but based on Gunn and the actors abilities alone. It's sure worthy of giving it a shot. but we won't know till we actually see it..
I have hopes that he will set DC back on track.. but only if the studio gets it's shit together.. Marvel is floundering post Endgame.. so there isn't a ton of competition at least.. a perfect time to come out swinging.. just learn the lessons to take your time a bit.. do not play catch-up. Have a vision in place, stick to it and let the visionaries do their thing..
Perfect casting
Gunn's casting has a solid track record.
I'd cast Tommy as Toyman. I think he'd be fun to watch with giant mechs and exploding dolls
I'm so interested to see this take on ma and pa kent AND perry white. These are some awesome character actors in supportive roles. James gunna has screen time, dialog, arcs and story for his actors. Zack is superficial and visual. I like Zacks eye for film but he's like a michael bay for comic books. Not bad just not good for superman. Zack was born for Mortal Kombat and the likes.
Pruitt Taylor Vince is way sexier than Costner.
Kevin Costner was not my cup of tea. At the end of the day, people are going to hate regardless. It's kind of boring to see them complain over every little detail.
