Moved to Summerlin from the DC area and we LOVE IT! We're in our 60s and love everything Vegas has to offer and we don't gamble. The natural beauty of the surrounding areas are fantastic with short drives to the West Coast beaches, the Grand Canyon, ... No natural disasters, the weather is phenomenal (cooler outside of the city). And, we have the Golden Knights. Fix the school system (seriously) and you have the best city in the US to live in.
Love your channel. I lived out in Vegas for a couple of years. Left in 2011 because of personal circumstances. I could not enjoy it like I wanted to. Would love to live out there again. Las Vegas is a great place to live!!
I've learned a lot about Vegas just by watching the content from your RUclips videos and Love it all!!! I am moving out there in February and can't wait. I hope you have another meet up somewhere in the near future because I would love to meet you and thank you for what you do...you have helped make my decision to move from Southern California to Vegas!!
+Felish Glad to hear you're making the move soon! I'll have another meet up in the future; still getting settled in with my new work schedule, but I'll have more for sure.
Thanks Jacob, even though I've already watched all of your videos this one came at a good time for me. I get the funds that I will be using to move next week and now that it's coming down to the wire to make a decision between Vegas and someplace else I've definitely been stressing. I can't even imagine trying to do all of this decision making without the help of your channel so thank you for all of your hard work!
+ShibuHara You're welcome! You've been active on the channel for quite a while, and I appreciate your participation and support. Have you visited out here yet to see the area or look for work?
+JacobslifeinVegas so far I've only visited as a tourist and haven't been back since I've considered the move. From your videos though I know that that is a very important step for success! :)
Yes! If you can swing it, then I definitely suggest coming for at least a few days to see the area, even if you already have a job lined up. If you want to job hunt while out here and find a place to live then I would suggest staying closer to a week.
I tell people all the time, if you've been to Vegas and "gambling, drinking, and sex" is all you took from it, then you truly have NOT made the best use of your time there, As soon as you even walk into baggage claim at McCarran, there's hundreds of billboards and tv monitors for Drais, , Blue Man Group, Grand Canyon Tours, etc.... Now I'm not saying Vegas should be everyones cup of tea, but if you didnt do any research on the place before you came out, and thus had a bad time thats on you. OMG it's hot? It is the desert afterall, dont come in the middle of friggin July if its a problem for you
+Johnny Klebitz LOL. As a local you learn pretty quickly that the vast majority of people are incredibly ignorant about Vegas outside of the strip. When someone who only visits Vegas for the strip says "I love/hate Vegas" you really just take it with a grain of salt because their knowledge of anything outside of Las Vegas Blvd. is minimal at best
the people in Vegas are so friendly, helpful and nice....much more so than a casual tourist or "outsider" would think. Almost like a small town type of friendly in some areas! That may seem unbelievable to some people, but I've found it to be true!
So far, All the pros outweigh the con's. I landed a job over there and I'm happy that I can actually provide a better life for my family out there. thanks for the info.
Love Love this channel everytime I'm feeling a little doubtful about moving to Vegas you find an interesting topic to talk about that makes me say "go ahead and do this". I was there 2 days ago and knew that this is the place I would like to live.
I must admit that I am quite jealous of you right now. Outdoors with the sun shining and just a shirt. I'm here waiting for snow this weekend in CT. I'll be sure to watch your channel this weekend and think of my future move to Vegas (happy thoughts, happy thoughts) ... I agree, it seems there are more pro's than cons. Thank you Jacob for your channel. Very helpful.
+lisa canela You're welcome! I did this video in December. It was probably in the high 40s or low 50s when I shot this. I was able to do be out there for a couple videos, but that was it! lol
+JacobslifeinVegas see, I would have never known it was filmed in Dec. 🙈 I'll take 50° over 10° any day. The sun helps a lot. That's what I'm looking forward to the most in Vegas; the sun. Well actually there are other more important points but the sun is high up there. I just realized it's been 2 years since I last visited. No bueno!
I have a friend who lived in Vegas and had his own business, he and his brother decided to sell it and he moved back here to MN. He had his kids in private school there since the schools in the Vegas area apparently aren't that good. But after about 5 years here, he wishes he could go back to Vegas. Vegas seems to be built for the future, having healthy employment gain year to year and low crime.
+arodgefan589 This area is expected to add another million people in the next 10 years. The national population grows at about 1% per year, but the Vegas area is growing at about 2% annually. There is a lot more growth in the future.
thank you for these videos you have helped me convince my wife that moving to Vegas is a great move. We will be moving to Vegas in 3 weeks. we are too excited ... thanks again for your help
Used to live there as a kid.. Me and my wife stayed a few days on the strip a couple years ago, I couldn't believe how big the strip had gotten.. I used to live on the edge of town in an area called the lakes.. we had nothing but desert all the way to the mts. After looking at a satellite view of the neighborhood I couldn't believe they had developed all the way to the mountains, a little area called Summerline I think.. Living in Missouri we have alot of humidity but the heat of Vegas was worse.. Didn't brother me as a kid, loved the beatiful whether..
Jacob, thanks for doing these videos. There is a lack of Vegas related videos that do not mention the strip. I will be moving to Vegas from Charlotte North Carolina with my company. We have an office out there next to Galeria Sunset (warm springs and stephanie st) in Henderson. I look forward to the move as I have never been there but the videos definitely shed some light on my future home. Keep it up! Hopefully we can get lunch in Fall/Winter 2016.
+NICHOLAS LEMOINE Sounds good Nicholas! That's exactly how I felt when I was getting ready to move to Vegas. I was surprised at how little info there was online, particularly in video format. I'll keep them coming!
Indeed southern Nevada has a lot more good points than bad. Not only does NV have no state income tax but it also has very low property taxes. And yes its hot but its a nice dry heat, I have lived in Louisiana, Florida, and Rhode Island and the north east, the summers there are actually more uncomfortable due to the high humidity and heat. I like the desert landscape also, its very unique. Nebraska, Delaware, and Ohio are just a couple states that are hardly scenic. Great Basin National Park has some of the most beautiful forests and mountains in the nation. Mt. Charleston is also gorgeous and near by. And also as far as bodies of water you have Lake Meade Recreational area, Lake Las Vegas, and also not to far to the south you have Laughlin on the Colorado River. A nice new neighborhood I have found out about recently is Winchester Nevada, which is a neighborhood in Las Vegas.
+FunkMastaMegaFlex Yes sir! There are a lot of well kept secrets out here in Southern Nevada. I didn't realize how popular it was for people who love outdoor activities until I got here, and saw that the geography we have gives plenty of options.
+JacobslifeinVegas It does indeed, also one think that I noticed that hasn't been talked about much for living in Las Vegas/Nevada, is how is health insurance handled. I believe all 50 states now offer a government health insurance plan, and if you move to the state how is easy it to obtain and get enrolled? I know in some states like Massachusetts and Rhode Island its actually pretty easy process compared the awkward slow programs their governments sponsor. This would be handy information for those moving to the state and do not have employment. Cuz like the rest of the nation I assume most people in Las Vegas/Nevada get health insurance/benefits through their employment.
Good point. This is the first year since I've lived here that I have not had to switch health insurance for one reason or another. You're right that a lot of people have it through their employer. That is one of the attractive reasons people choose to work in the casinos and hotels on the strip. A lot of them are union jobs, which include health coverage. Thank you for the suggestion.
I would like to live in Las Vegas because it’s the driest metro area in the United States and as far as I’m concerned: One day of rain per year is one too many. I would really love the lack of rain. Nothing more depressing than the sound of windshield wipers!!
Good video! Thanks. My wife and I are considering moving to Las Vegas; I have been a couple of times and I like it. We are hispanic and have been living in US for about 4 years, we both are professionals and I work in the medical field. We live in Miami now, but we also lived in Orlando for six months. The company for what I work has office there in Vegas and I have been thinking to move there. So I can keep my job. The reasons to be thinking in doing that is that Miami is too expensive, there are tolls almost everywhere and the traffic is terrible. We rent a 2 bedrooms apt for 1600 and it's not that nice at all, but work for us because it's near my wife work. We have been thinking in buying a house but most of them cost more than 300 000 and in some areas like Doral may cost more than 500 000. We need something more affordable, that's why we are thinking in moving to Vegas. We also have an infant and we want to know more about daycares (costs and conditions) and also schools. Thanks again for the video.
we moved here 3 weeks ago and I watched your videos before we moved to Las Vegas and everything you said is totally true thanks for the heads-up about everything really was good information Vegas is the best moved from Birmingham Alabama
great video! my hubby and i love living out here in las vegas!!! We are from Chicago we got sick of the crime, winters & segregated neighborhoods! Here in vegas we enjoy our lives We have so many options for our date nights, eating, fun places to explore and culture!!! We dont drink, smoke, dont do strip clubs or rarley gamble so we wont ever get cuaght up in the pitfalls of the dark side of vegas! We mind our business so making friends is harder but were good , we have each other. People are not as friendly here unless they are tourist& the crime seems to be getting worst! Las vegas is great we just wish some family were here!
i lived in henderson from 2008 till 2014,6years ,lived in henderson by stephanie & wigwam, very nice area, small town feeling and u can drive to las vegas in 15 minutes, cost of living is much lower ,much lower than u can think, moved here with family, again i said earlier one of the cheapest places to live, school systems real good, i moved there as my finance company in dallas texas opened an office in henderson nv. after six months the company went through some major financial turmoil and decided to shut the office down one of my real close friend was working as a cab driver so he asked me if i would like to drive cab,i did it for a week and met a real nice host who was working at spearmint rhino in las vegas,he encouraged me to apply there,so i did got hired ,and i made almost 5 times more money than the cab or finance business, worked as a host in that club for like six months and then they promoted me as a assistant manager, made three times more money than working as a host but lot of stress so after one year ,one of the big poker player who became my friend as he use to visit the club frequently .and would drop more money in a night than i made in a week i went to wynn casino first time played poker, and got few lessons from him,and in a month i was making ten times more money playing poker rather than working as a assistant manager, so after 2 months i quit my jjob and start playing poker full time ,,,played for 4 years made lot of money, got tired of playing poker all the time, became independent host where i only deal with big spenders mainly poker players and take them to restaurants clubs, by the way that professional poker player that i mentioned who drops like 5 k in a night in a strip club,is a client of mine,i live in sandiego now, lajolla area.love it,as i can fly to vegas when ever i want or drive 5 hours be there, any questions pls ask
Thank you Jacob. Please keep posting informative videos about Vegas. I am planing to move to Vegas from L.A. I hope it will happen soon. Once i ll hit there and settle down. Lets have some beer.
I agree with this video I’ve live here my whole life heat is a factor though and it does take a toll on everything from A-Z ! Traffic sucks too! 😫 also water is a problem if you’ve never been here don’t drink the tap water it tastes horrible and takes some getting used to an may make you sick!
Hey I just recently moved to Las Vegas, and I mean like yesterday but for what I could afford I got a place off of industrial road. W Chicago road and man that’s a con of Vegas for sure. This next year is going to be rough but hopefully within this next year I’ll be able to save up and get something in a better area.
I plan to move there and soon. i came out 12 days Sept 2016 and fell in love with the place. I don't smoke, drink or gamble but there was tons of things to do. I loved it. I have new Tacoma my challenge now is a part time job. I don't need healthcare I have it I just want part time job and a place to live that is clean and comfortable. Give me some advise I watch all your videos.
Thanks so much, I am thinking about relocating to Vegas in the next year so so early 2019. Once I wrap my schooling and can find a job good then I am heading off, hopefully my mother will come with me.
How far is Summerlin from the strip? Are there any high rise apartments in Vegas? What is the weather like, the news says dangerous heatwave in effect right now. Is it dry heat or humid heat?
Allen Tapanes parts of the Las Vegas desert looks like the moon and parts look like Mars most of the science fiction movies are shot on location in our deserts... hahahaha
JacobslifeinVegas Hello. I’m 55, currently on disability, at this point it looks like it may just well be total disability. (City Inspector, 6 knee surgeries later, etc..) My wife is actually there as I write this, looking at 2 homes later this morning. 1 house in Henderson right off the end of Essex ave. Beautiful house, however the area leaves questions. Research say’s Henderson has a pretty low crime rate. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Hi John. Henderson is very well known for its low crime rate. Please use this link to send me a message on Facebook, and I can connect you with someone that knows that area better than I do, and can help you. facebook.com/JacobslifeinVegas-281682135353468
John R. Henderson is nice and all but the commute to Las Vegas and surrounding suburbs is pretty rough....the 215 95 etc..madhouse at peak travel hours..its a nightmare
Need to start doing some chart based info sessions to be included in either the description or in the video next you. This will help people decide what's best for them and give them reasons why they move or not move to Las Vegas/ Henderson area. I can do some of that work for ya if you need.
Californian moved to Oregon; rusted there so moved to Las Vegas for the sun; great opportunities; moved to Florida in 1999 for family reasons; retiring soon so playing with the idea of LV again. Enjoy your videos, wish that you would ID where you're filming from; sometimes you do but on this one you didn't. Thanks.
Off the top I know your never going to read this because I know you get thousands of these every day but I really want to thank you bro I’m 55and retired and moving to your city and I was scared as all get out but after seeing all of your video they made my day I’m truly excited now and I can’t wait to land in May anyway bro if I ever see you on streets I owe u a great cigar Eric
I have a question, if you don't mind. My partner and I are looking at Las Vegas to possibly move there in the near future. How is the area with getting produce? I don't mind if it is a little pricey, but is the quality good? Where we live now everything is shipped and either things are not ripe or are sold already rotten. I love fruit and veggies and worry with Las Vegas being in the desert it would be difficult to get them. I know farming areas are near by, but I want to make sure there is a decent selection & decent quality of foods.
I think you should have put a little more emphasis on how good our parks are in Las Vegas; incredibly well maintained tennis and basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields, and lots of open space. Also, another financial benefit is higher wages than surrounding areas such as California, Phoenix and Utah, all of which have high costs of living. To me, the only downside of Las Vegas is the heat. This year we hit triple digit days in may and still there in September! But hey, Mount Charleston is just 30 minutes away to cool down. Great channel. Love the positivity.
I recently visited Vegas with thoughts of buying a retirement home. There are things to like; you can buy a home for $219,000., incredibly beautiful mountains, clouds and sky, sunshine, uncrowded expressways around town, ethnic diversity. But I'm sooo not attracted to the jumble of casinos and amusement-park atmosphere of the strip but, that's just me. I don't know what it would be like to never see woods again. I went to Lake Las Vegas and even that appeared to be a gimmicky project, emulating something on the order of an Italian fishing village huddled around a harbor. I felt a little like I was at at DisneyLand. Also, It was 109 degrees and spending any kind of time in the sun was out of the question...and that lasts for five months or more. I found prices to be as high as Los Angeles for dining, gas, hotel, property tax. In fact, the tax burden I saw had Nevada in the middle, not at the top (wallethub.com/edu/states-with-highest-lowest-tax-burden/20494/). A lot of the service workers seemed jaded too. If all the shopping, entertainment and dining is on the strip, I'd never go. It's congested and parking costs $. South Summerlin and Spring Valley were nice. But, the city on the whole has no shortage of cookie-cutter, economical housing developments.. W Spring Mountain Rd was my foray off the strip and it was lined with cheapo-looking businesses . I think overall, the city is a good value due to affordable housing in descent neighborhoods and no harsh winter. Its growth is a confirmation of its desirability. It's just not for me.
Pros outweigh the cons by far. While it was below zero in Indiana earlier this week and with the massive snowstorm going on right now out east, it has been around 60 and sunny here. The 100 degree temps don't bother me either. There's no humidity here so the heat is not miserable at all. 85 in Indiana feels worse than 105 here because of the high humidity. Just thought I'd throw that out there since family and friends back east are in complete misery right now.
+Richard Muncy People from the east coast seem to really love the weather this time of year, when everyone they know back east is dealing with snow storms. I had a coworker from Connecticut tell me a story about a year ago of her dad posting on Facebook. It was around this time when a relative of theirs posted that they have busy shoveling snow because of the storms. Her dad responded "All we're shoveling is sunshine out here in Vegas!" LOL
Man Ive never been to a place with dry heat before and walking around hungover at noon had me feeling like death. I really like the cold because I live in the colorado mountains so Vegas is not for me in the day time at least
Hi Jacob. It is a random question. I just relocated to Henderson and I do not like the tap water out here. What kind of water do you drink and what water filter do you use? Do you use anything to convert hard water to soft? My skin gets itchy from hard water and my long hair gets out of control
+kimberly park You're welcome. I do use a water filter that I just bought at a grocery store. I know you can have a water filtration system installed in your home to soften the water you use to bathe, but I don't know what it would cost.
Going into 2nd retirement after federal civilian job in 3-5 years. Retired Military Officer. Selling house in the D.C. Suburbs of Northern Virginia and relocating to NW or West LV. How's the house prices there compared to Fairfax or Woodbridge, VA? Looking to have a pool and outside kitchen added to house there. Hope not too expensive. It'll be our resort type living w/o leaving the house. Enjoying your great videos. Thanks for sharing.
I'd like to move to Vegas. I need some advice first. 1. I don't have a job lined up there because I don't live there, I live in Montana right now. And I can't really get a place to live there because I don't have a job there. Do you have any ideas on what I could do? Just so you know, I could get the money to move to Vegas, I'd have to sell my place in Montana first. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you soon
+JacobslifeinVegas I never considered moving out of my home state of Cali, or that I would love another state/city I would love more, but I think Vegas is the place for me. And I definitely love the heat so that's an added bonus 😎😀
Jasymnne Ortiz I know that feeling of leaving California for the "unknown" feeling of living in another state. It took some courage, but I'm so glad I did it.
Moving to Las Vegas in about another year....Your video would be a lot more helpful if you could give more attention to SPECIFICS. So tell us WHERE the good neighborhoods are....and WHERE are the bad neighborhoods. Also, what about the North side....and the inexpensive mobile trailor homes......Wondering if low rent necessarily translates into bad neighborhood...or not? Thanks
Hi Jacob, long time subscriber here. Always a pleasure to check in on your videos! We lived in Las Vegas years ago and now live in Phoenix. We love Arizona, but we also love visiting So. Nevada. A couple of quick questions for you...How do you feel about the Raiders possibly moving to LV? Did you follow them when you lived in San Jose? Also, how have you adapted to the wind there? Im sure you've had experience with wind living in Northern Cal, but the Vegas wind seems to cut right through you! Does it bother you much or have you adapted to it? Thanks again for your great channel and all the best to you! Rick
Having moved to Vegas from the bay area, I can say that I'm more familiar with the Raiders and their fan base than most people. With that being said, I'm less than enthusiastic about the possibility of the Raiders moving to Vegas lol. The wind here is a bit aggravating, but it was brutal in the SF area. In the bay area it's already cool, so the wind makes it feel even colder. You get some of that in the winter and spring in Vegas, but the wind in the summer usually feels nice.
***** I love both Phoenix & Las Vegas, but for slightly different reasons. Phoenix is in the Sonoran Desert which IMO is the most beautiful desert in the world. It is also a very clean, well manicured and maintained city in general. The weather is great if you don't mind the heat and the winters are more mild than Las Vegas. Also, the wind in Phoenix is WAY less than Vegas. The Vegas winds are brutal! Lots of amenities in Phx, pro sports, a myriad of things to do and all of the big city features. Now, Las Vegas is great too! I love the casinos, sports betting, poker etc! Incredible fun there and also the UNLV Rebels (Im an Alumnus). You can't go wrong either way! We have a place in Las Vegas too and love it there. Take care!
Cyrus992 The heat between Phoenix and Vegas is about the same. The Sonoran desert is definitely way more beautiful than the Mojave desert, no question about it. Traffic in Las Vegas sucks, it's horrible in my opinion. I've only been to Phoenix once, but from what I experienced it wasn't that bad. You have to remember, Vegas is a huge tourist city, you have people on the roads that don't know the area and that are from all over the world/country. You don't have that problem in Phoenix because it's not a huge tourist attraction, the only traffic your getting is from the locals.
What about the water situation in LV? I hear there will soon be major problems and water rationing is inevitable. Please give your informed opinion. Thanks, Jacob.
I already sub, I've been looking for a channel like this,at this moment I'm in the Midwest but I would to move there in the near future...thank you sir for your channel
Heat is not that big of a draw back as long as your AC or central air works. lol You think Las Vegas has heat, try Texas heat. Dallas, Austin and Houston Texas has the type of heat that as soon as you step outside you start sweating. States like Georgia has that Southern hot humid heat. I rather deal with dry heat than humid heat any day. At least Las Vegas doesn't have Tornadoes, I was born in the South and Tornado season was just a way of life. I used to live next to some guys that used to chase Tornadoes. Plus let's not forget Hurricane season which if you live on the East coast you have to deal with too. Give me dry desert heat over tornado warnings. lol Before i left the East Coast, I had a friend visit me from Cali and he never experienced any natural disaster other than a Earth Quake. So he was freaking out seeing the words Tornado watch orTornado warning pop up on my TV 5 times in one month. lol
+MrGrownman455 Hahaha. The only "warnings" we get out here in Vegas are for the flash floods when we get into monsoon season in the summer. I'll still take that over hurricanes, tornadoes, sweltering humidity, and earthquakes any day!
I am so glad to have found your site :) Love all the things you have mentioned so far. However, how is the health care there? What type of health insurance plans are accepted there?
So I'm from PA, and I'm currently in my last semester of college. I have been interested in moving to Vegas for a teaching job since they are in need, plus I could use a different change in scenery. What are some of your recommended neighbors or parts in Vegas that are good?
is enterprise a good area to buy a home...between Bruce Woodbury and blue diamond. It looks like a lot of new neighborhoods in that area. what should we look for when buying a new home in that climate?
I've lived in Vegas since 1994 - the beginning of the growth period, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to Las Vegas. Forget what they say about the schools. They only rank low because of the Mexican's that drop out of HS by 10th grade. My kids went to LV public schools, not an issue at all, well educated. The main negative is the heat. I won't lie. 119 degrees is a bitch. I have a pool and it's so hot in the summer you don't even want to go outside at all, let alone hang out by the pool. And it lasts from May until well into September. This guy is correct, plenty of good neighborhoods in Las Vegas, especially in the Northwest and SouthWest. I will say that if you don't make a lot of money, you won't like Vegas - you won't have the money to play and see what the city has to offer. This is a great place for people WITH money. Concerts, restaurants, gambling - Las Vegas has it all.
I’m 15, been living in Vegas my whole life. The only thing that pisses me off here is how windy it really gets 🤧. If you’re an indoor person you don’t really gotta worry about it. But I’m a soccer player and I love being outdoor, wind reaching up to 20mph or higher really pisses me off
I'm a single mom currently living in Orlando Florida (aka expensive for no reason). I'm really thinking about moving to Vegas but I have a couple questions. I see that there are plenty decent looking apartments for a fraction of the price I'd pay in Florida but what about other expenses like utilities & cable? Also what about food grocery expenses? Also, what about the job market? Is there good opportunities available for the working class? & last but no least what are some of the best neighbors as far as safety? Like I said I'm a single mom raising a little girl so the safer the better lol. If anyone could answer these questions for me that would be awesome! Thank you
I’d like to move after college from North Carolina for a change in pace and I’d like to be closer to the west coast. Aside from what I hear about the shoddy job market, my other concern is energy sustainability in Las Vegas. I understand Vegas gets all its energy from the Hoover dam. Does this mean energy costs are high? In the event of a disaster, would there be blackouts? Or would there ever be a chance of the Hoover dam drying up? I might be overthinking it, but these seem like important questions to ask. Anyway Vegas seems like a great place overall.
Hey man thx for the vids, moving from colorado next year, just wondering how bad the scorpion issue really is? Would like to live on the outskirts and heard it is a problem..thx in advance for any info
Hello, I am to planning to go to UNLV, however, I am not sure where are the safest places to live around as a student. could you kindly recommend me what places that are safe and all round great environment?
I moved to Vegas about 5 months ago. So far I love it. Winter weather is so doable then most. No snow, just dry and cold. My biggest complaint is definitely the drivers here and The crime (mostly theft & auto related). If you are moving here from out of state. Don't expect to find a quick job at one of the resorts, they are prime Real estate.
+Eric Dubb That's true about the weather. It's really not that bad (referring to the summer heat). I don't think the driving here is too bad. I saw much was back in CA. The only annoying thing about the driving is if you get caught behind a tourist going 10 miles below the speed limit because they're busy staring at the sights. You're also right about getting a job at one of the big casino/hotel properties. Just getting processed for one of those positions takes a few weeks.
Great vid, Jacob! I just moved to Henderson from Southern California (Carson to be exact) and the cost of living out there has become so OUTRAGEOUS! We are paying for a 3 bed 2 bath 1500 sq ft home for $1175/mo and my brother got the cheapest apt out in Long Beach, CA and it’s a tiny 600 sq ft upstairs 1 bedroom apt no parking no amenities for a little over $1300/mo! A 3 bedroom house out there is upwards to 3k/mo!!! There’s also NO jobs out in Southern California it honestly feels like you hit the lottery when you do get one! There’s no where else to build there but up! There’s way too many people there 10 families living in one house no outside street parking and after being there for 10 years I NEVER want to go back. F*ck the 405 fwy, the traffic, the taxes, everything! I’m so happy to finally be out of the shithole California is becoming!!!
JacobslifeinVegas Love your videos!! What do you think of Paradise? My husband and I are looking to move after summer and Paradise seem to have the closeness of the Strip plus the prices are good. We like to walk and ride bicycles so do you think that area is safe for such activities?
For one thing, when it's hot here, it's a dry heat, which is (in my opinion) better than the humid heat. Somedays (not many) it can be humid when it rains here in the summer, but other than that, it's dry.
Brilliant Amazing , I'm 56 u.s.navy disabled veteran , I'm tired of California Prison and Shackles , Keep me informed , I Love the Heat , I'm Military , we adapt and Overcome in America
So with a lower cost of living, how do wages compare? I noticed nice appartment communities for $600 to $900. Milwaukee/Chicago land you're not touching a decent rental under 1 k
ANYTHING on the East side of the city is bad. Most of NORTH Las Vegas is bad, at least East of the 15. Avoid most things about 3-4 miles in any direction of the strip.
the vegas area only has two real issues and thats : no greenery since its a dessert which is depressing and i hear they have water shortages which will only get worse.
Great video Jacob! I'm 27 years old and potentially thinkin of moving from Calgary, Canada down to Vegas... do you know if there are any/many IT related jobs in beautiful Las Vegas? Thanks in advance.
+Shikhar Kalsi It's not Silicon Valley, but that is one thing that Vegas (and the state of Nevada) is pushing more for. They are trying to diversify this economy more so it's not so reliant on tourism. Part of that effort is working to attract people in the tech sector. Tony Hseih of Zappos is face of the Downtown Project to help support small businesses, particularly in the start up world. Northern Nevada just got the Tesla plant last year, and this year North Las Vegas just got Faraday Future to start construction on their plant. It's definitely worth taking a deeper look to see what's available.
I agree Rheta. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the tips! I'm getting ready for some good, hard work :)
+ShibuHara Anytime
Thanks, Jacobs, it good to hear it from someone who actually lived there. I thinking of living there someday.
You're welcome Noel!
Cyrus992 um no..lol..I live here and it's hot...not all the time but most the time..lol..it was a 102 degrees this morning at 8am..lol
lmao I was there in the middle of July and I loved it but wow...what a heat.
@@rainbowgoldenhoney767 try living in south florida humidity
@@adamd8060 i'm torn between moving to south florida, n. carolina or vegas. is the humidity bad where you are? what part iin south florida is that?
the people in Vegas are so friendly, helpful and nice....much more so than a casual tourist or "outsider" would think. Almost like a small town type of friendly in some areas! That may seem unbelievable to some people, but I've found it to be true!
I agree. The small town feel here is stronger than I thought it would be
I love the Las Vegas wash. It is such a beautiful part of the desert and the local area.
I'm sold I'm moving to Nevada from the Midwest 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
DJ Morgan Welcome DJ!
JacobslifeinVegas ... much appreciated! None of these cons will bother me, i am very excited!
My family and I are moving to Henderson in January 2017 and we are loving your videos! Very insightful! Thank you for what you do 😊
You're welcome Bananna! I'm glad you are enjoying them thus far!
So far, All the pros outweigh the con's. I landed a job over there and I'm happy that I can actually provide a better life for my family out there. thanks for the info.
+Carlos Gomez You're welcome Carlos. I'm glad that the move has worked out well for you and your family
Jacob you are wonderful!!! Thank you for taking the time to share!!!
You're welcome John!
Appreciate your time and patience.
Love Love this channel everytime I'm feeling a little doubtful about moving to Vegas you find an interesting topic to talk about that makes me say "go ahead and do this". I was there 2 days ago and knew that this is the place I would like to live.
Thanks Erica! I'm glad the videos are helpful
No bueno!
I agree that the sun is nice. I think there are only 2 other cities with more days of sunshine than Vegas, so we definitely get our fill lol
Jacob your videos are Golden. You always have cool and great things to say. Once again, thanks for an awesome channel.
+Juan Aviles Jr. You're welcome Juan. I'm glad they help!
I agree. It grew on me pretty quickly. Now I love it!
thank you for these videos you have helped me convince my wife that moving to Vegas is a great move. We will be moving to Vegas in 3 weeks. we are too excited ... thanks again for your help
+Rashid Rajah You're welcome Rashid! I'm glad I was able to help
Have you moved to Las Vegas yet?
Cons aren't much of a problem for me, as I'm from nearby St. George. I'm looking into Vegas once I finish my teaching degree.
St. George is definitely beautiful. I enjoy visiting there, but I really like living here.
I use to live there, Eastern and 215, its a 24hr city, I miss it, love the desert. lots to do besides casinos.
+Advantage Bug Screens " lots to do besides casinos." I agree 1,000,000%!!!
I'm planning to move there from Houston. I've never been anywhere in my life so I'm scared but pumped.
FunkMastaMegaFlex its easy...im on a state plan myself
dry heat? I was there 2x and it was 110 in the shade. I felt it. Who would not?
Thanks again for the video.
we moved here 3 weeks ago and I watched your videos before we moved to Las Vegas and everything you said is totally true thanks for the heads-up about everything really was good information Vegas is the best moved from Birmingham Alabama
my dad really wants us to move there from the east coast. still have mixed emotions but this video really helped.
Thanks for your videos. You are helping me with my decision, on if I should leave Los Angeles.
You're welcome!
great video! my hubby and i love living out here in las vegas!!! Las vegas is great we just wish some family were here!
i lived in henderson from 2008 till 2014,6years ,lived in henderson by stephanie & wigwam, very nice area, small town feeling
and u can drive to las vegas in 15 minutes,
cost of living is much lower ,much lower than u can think,
moved here with family, again i said earlier one of the cheapest places to live, school systems real good,
i moved there as my finance company in dallas texas opened an office in henderson nv.
after six months the company went through some major financial turmoil and decided to shut the office down
one of my real close friend was working as a cab driver so he asked me if i would like to drive cab,i did it for a week and met a real nice host who was working at spearmint rhino in las vegas,he encouraged me to apply there,so i did got hired ,and i made almost 5 times more money than the cab or finance business,
worked as a host in that club for like six months and then they promoted me as a assistant manager, made three times more money than working as a host but lot of stress so after one year ,one of the big poker player who became my friend as he use to visit the club frequently .and would drop more money in a night than i made in a week
i went to wynn casino first time played poker, and got few lessons from him,and in a month i was making ten times more money playing poker rather than working as a assistant manager,
so after 2 months i quit my jjob and start playing poker full time ,,,played for 4 years made lot of money, got tired of playing poker all the time,
became independent host where i only deal with big spenders mainly poker players and take them to restaurants clubs,
by the way that professional poker player that i mentioned who drops like 5 k in a night in a strip club,is a client of mine,i live in sandiego now, lajolla area.love it,as i can fly to vegas when ever i want or drive 5 hours be there, any questions pls ask
Thank you Jacob. Please keep posting informative videos about Vegas. I am planing to move to Vegas from L.A. I hope it will happen soon. Once i ll hit there and settle down. Lets have some beer.
I think the desert landscapes around Vegas are seriously underrated, like Red Rock Canyon.
1) the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
2 ) Shelby American
👍 definitely pro's
Yep! For all the racing lovers!
I love living in Vegas!!
+Stephon White You and me both man!
Thanks so much, I am thinking about relocating to Vegas in the next year so so early 2019. Once I wrap my schooling and can find a job good then I am heading off, hopefully my mother will come with me.
Sounds good!
How far is Summerlin from the strip? Are there any high rise apartments in Vegas? What is the weather like, the news says dangerous heatwave in effect right now. Is it dry heat or humid heat?
Las Vegas has beautiful weather year round...…...as long as you stay indoors !!!
i want to live on the MOON.
Allen Tapanes parts of the Las Vegas desert looks like the moon and parts look like Mars most of the science fiction movies are shot on location in our deserts... hahahaha
be patient! eventually we'll be neighbors lol
*Ducktales NES moon theme plays*
Thank you Jacob im moving to Vegas in Dec !
Welcome Tamika!
Tamika Schultz Did you ever move? If so, how do you like it?
Good stuff thnx
My wife are contemplating moving to Henderson, Lake Las Vegas area.
Sounds good. I take it you two are retiring soon?
John R. Summerlin is the best area to live in Las Vegas...all the west burbs are good..
Need to start doing some chart based info sessions to be included in either the description or in the video next you. This will help people decide what's best for them and give them reasons why they move or not move to Las Vegas/ Henderson area. I can do some of that work for ya if you need.
+Marco Sawyer Hmmmmm.....you may be on to something.
People get math and charts whether anyone admits it or not. I'll be in touch.
+Marco Sawyer Copy
Your supposed to say, Roger, even though no one knows who roger is, but that's another story.
LOL. I was about to say that. I rarely even hear
"10-4" used on the radio
Good video. I ve been in Vegas most of my life. There are many pros and cons. I love it, and I will never go back to Texas.
Summerlin is my favourite Area in Vegas
Coming from someone who grew up in California, and at times would eat produce directly from the farm, I'd say the produce is pretty good here.
Thank you!
It's ironic that you mention that because I've recently recorded some videos about parks in the area. I'll be releasing them in the near future :)
It's just not for me.
my son loved it there.
I know his spirit is there...my only son Andy. thanks
+JacobslifeinVegas lol that's great! I may need to use that one!
Such a beautiful state
Check out Reno. We don't have the heat as bad, and less crime.
I'm planning to move to Vegas in the fall fingers crossed 😙👍
Man Ive never been to a place with dry heat before and walking around hungover at noon had me feeling like death. I really like the cold because I live in the colorado mountains so Vegas is not for me in the day time at least
Hi Jacob. It is a random question. I just relocated to Henderson and I do not like the tap water out here. What kind of water do you drink and what water filter do you use? Do you use anything to convert hard water to soft? My skin gets itchy from hard water and my long hair gets out of control
by the way, Jacob. I have watched a few videos of yours before moving. Thanks for sharing all the tips
Hyde Park Middle School (magnet), Clark High School (A. M. SAT), A-Tech, Challenger, and Coral Academy of Science LV are all pretty good schools.
UNLV and CSN not so much
Nice Amanda! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Clark is an all black school, what are you talking about?
I'd like to move to Vegas. I need some advice first. 1. I don't have a job lined up there because I don't live there, I live in Montana right now. And I can't really get a place to live there because I don't have a job there. Do you have any ideas on what I could do? Just so you know, I could get the money to move to Vegas, I'd have to sell my place in Montana first. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you soon
I'm excited to move down to Las Vegas for college!!
It's a pretty awesome place to live!
+JacobslifeinVegas Do they have a good community college?
CSN Bro
geminidaprince84
+Cuetopia is that where I can get a 2 year degree and then transfer to the bigger college?
i lived out there for 6 months and i loved it. I am hoping to move back in the next couple of months and probably stay there for at least 4 years
+Jasymnne Ortiz It's a pretty amazing place to be :)
It took some courage, but I'm so glad I did it.
nice video, thank you
+Aamir Ali You're welcome Aamir!
just bought a place in Canyon Willow, off East Tropicana
Nice!
Thanks
Hey Leo. My last 2 videos are walk through tutorials on how to search for crime by area in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson
+Eric V there was grass on my lawn when I moved here so I had no choice but to mow it down. There are few others who have grass on their lawns too.
I already sub, I've been looking for a channel like this,at this moment I'm in the Midwest
but I would to move there in the near future...thank you sir for your channel
MrGrownman455, I don't start sweating right away even in 140 F, so not sure I believe you.
I am so glad to have found your site :) Love all the things you have mentioned so far.
However, how is the health care there? What type of health insurance plans are accepted there?
Hey might be silly but cost of Marlboros?....regular gas....food costs such as a restaurant you know ...if u can please

I just visited Vegas in June and loved it. Definitely plan on moving there this next spring. Coming from Omaha haha
Welcome to another world lol
Yes It'll definitely be a change but I'm excited
Jacob, you are certainly correct about the low state tax burdens, but that is just for residents.
Visitors get taxed like crazy! LOL
That's Arroyo Grande Park I live about 2 minutes away from there walking.i go to green valley highschool just down the street from there
Hi Jacob, thanks for this video. Can you please provide a list good living areas near the strip?
So I'm from PA, and I'm currently in my last semester of college. I have been interested in moving to Vegas for a teaching job since they are in need, plus I could use a different change in scenery. What are some of your recommended neighbors or parts in Vegas that are good?
Hey Edwin. I've actually done a few videos on good areas to live
another great video!
Thank you Tommy!
I'm moving to henderson!!!! thank you for your channel
+Daniel Erazo You're welcome Daniel!
is enterprise a good area to buy a home...between Bruce Woodbury and blue diamond.
But I’m a soccer player and I love being outdoor, wind reaching up to 20mph or higher really pisses me off
Other than that, I love this city ❤️
its a dog friendly city!
Advantage Bug Screens yep..many dog parks aswell
Advantage Bug Screens cats to
In the summer though the pavement can get over 150 degrees though so that’s one con of having a dog in Vegas if they need to go for a walk
+runninghighCO You're welcome man. I've done a couple videos about scorpions on the channel

Compared to Chicago, Las Vegas has a very low crime rate.
Hello,
I am to planning to go to UNLV, however, I am not sure where are the safest places to live around as a student. could you kindly recommend me what places that are safe and all round great environment?
Hey! I did a video on neighborhoods for UNLV students
Alright thanks!
@@JacobslifeinVegas jacob do you miss having greenery around you? also is water shortages an issue?
Welcome to Vegas Emily 😁
JacobslifeinVegas Love your videos!! What do you think of Paradise? My husband and I are looking to move after summer and Paradise seem to have the closeness of the Strip plus the prices are good. We like to walk and ride bicycles so do you think that area is safe for such activities?
Only thing holding me back, is "WATER" and lack of!
planing to move to las vegas next year ...im sure i would be better than here in miami fl ...
For one thing, when it's hot here, it's a dry heat, which is (in my opinion) better than the humid heat. Somedays (not many) it can be humid when it rains here in the summer, but other than that, it's dry.
tjstraw1 👍👍👍👍👍👍 good to know... Here is humid all the year
I'm north of Miami and I'm done with Florida weather and humidity. I hear there are good musician opportunities in Las Vegas!!
Milwaukee/Chicago land you're not touching a decent rental under 1 k
what are some of the neighborhoods to avoid when moving to las Vegas?
It's definitely worth taking a deeper look to see what's available.
thinking about moving from Reno NV to Vegas.
How I find out what are the bass neighborhoods? I am planning to buy but I have not idea how to find this information, thanks
Vegas in my opinion is the best place very nice especially In my neighboorhood but I love it here
+Ryan Roop I know how you feel!
Yeah that's where NigaHiga and BHD and RiceGum live. If you know who they are
VIC-TOUR Yep. I know who all 3 of them are! I've got a fairly good handle on the amount of RUclipsrs in Vegas
JacobslifeinVegas Nice, have you ever met them in person?
