"They didn't build this place on winners" what a quote.
Louis is a legend.
He's damn right about that.
that conversation had quite a dark undertone
rajus0 from the looks of it there’sA lot of losers
the answer is even better: 'I think in a lifetime everybody's a loser...'
“Why didn’t they give you the big room?”
Whoosh, the British humour sails him by....
can u please explain that to me?
@@ArthurKnight1899 It is the biggest room. The joke is that there is no bigger room and everyone knows it.
@@ArthurKnight1899 a normal British response would then be to mock oneself:
“Why didn’t they give you the big room?”
“Oh, they don’t like me that much” or similar.
It makes the joke way funnier when someone doesn't get it
"They don't have any bigger"
It is so lovely to be British and have grown up with satire.
That was such a brilliant line that would have had any British person laughing but the Yank missed it.
Louis was probable pissed off that his best line of the week was wasted.
i think it's sad that the gambler thinks that the guy actually is his friend. dude, the moment you don't have the money to spend, he won't be your friend no more.
Yes sir!!!
I can see why you said that. But note, the gambler is the godfather of that guys daughter. I don't think you would make such a decision so lightly
Why is that sad? Do you think the gambler thinks the escorts are in love with him too?
What friendship isn't shallow? The only thing solid as rock is family.
Face Off family certainly isn't solid as rock. the strength of a family unit is only as strong as their morals, and I'd say the same about any relationship
jesus christ bbc clean your lens
so much smut in the air at Vegas
Ah yes, before the concept of cleaning even existed.....
Luke Martin it’s aircon
I'm with you, clean the lens and it's not the fault of Vegas or the aircon. It's the camera guy's fault.
Rich = Moe Greene
Surely a 'top gambler' from the casino's perspective is one who loses large amounts of money?
or one who encourages the most people that they too can 'win big'
If you watch the full thing, he does lose a large amount of money. Louis keeps asking and he settles on 'a lot more' than 500k. Almost laughing it off like it was an order of magnitude wrong.
Simon Coulthard he's now an uber driver. Seriously.
They want you to turnover a lot of bets. Winning or losing it doesn’t matter because they know if you turnover a lot- they then know you can lose big in any trip.
No. It can mean a gambler that has won a large amount and the casino invites them complimentary to gamble, meaning lose.
It can also mean the most ''craziest'' wild money monkey, meaning, they splash loads of money. Casino's want them close, so when they do go ''crazy'', it's in their own casino. ;)
I see an addict saying his pimp is a good friend.
Exactly. I'm sure he also caters parties and comped women to him as well. Notice how he kept hesitating and studdering when BBC asked why Hilton and why Rich and what does Rich set up????
MRTN13 the guy went broke and he’s an Uber driver now. I doubt that this guy is still his friend
Why would a gambling addict have a pimp?
I also see a cocaine addiction in the whole episode
@@QuasiELVIS to send him out to lose his money and more importantly to make the pimp more money, and in this case the make the pimp's employer richer.
Louis shines a brilliant light on the crazy, silly extravagance of stuff like this.
He would be a nightmare to hang out with though.
“Why didn’t they give you the big room?”
“There is no bigger room.”
Error 404: Sarcasm not found
British humour goes over Americans heads like MAGA hats
Shh go eat a cheese burger
Where’s the bad dental hygiene jokes at?
He certainly didn't seem like the happy go lucky type.
However, he was on camera and if that's something you're not used to it can be very intimidating.
For the hotel to view him as a 'top gambler', he must lose a lot of money.
scott12at they’re flying him out there and giving him a suite....on his own??? Regularly?? Then dumping him on a table. It’s morally corrupt but u have to be a fool to gamble this way
Theres a scene where the dudes just feeding 100's into 3 diffrent machines, not even paying attention to anything.
Dudes a degenerate gambler in the truest sense of the word.
He lost 300 000 dollar you can watch the docu
A gambler in denial just like speaking to a crack addict and he's telling you his dealer is his best friend, what a sad lonely life he must have.
lol you would NEVER find a crack addict who thinks his dealer is his best friend.
I did the math my flat can fit into that hotel room 73 times!
More or less
Maths not math.
Holy crap
Uhh that would be math, moron. Maths? LOL.
God damn you live in only 205 sqft? I'll never complain about my 700sqft apartment again. My kitchen is 150sqft alone 😂
If you've had 1 argument in ten years your not friends
Ryan Sweeney yeah, that person is just a yes-man
In this specific case, it doesn't apply, but your best friends will tend to clash with you when it's required.
"Rich will look after me... not only as a friend but as a client". Okee-dokee.., you've got it worked out. Should you go bust, I think you'd find out very quickly that yes, you are a client first.
What do you mean. Do you know what Alan does now? He must still be wealthy off his matress business.
Great documentary.
From what people have gathered, he's now an Uber driver in Toronto. Check the link: www.reddit.com/r/LouisTheroux/comments/4b7up7/update_louis_theroux_gambling_in_vegas_doc_rich/
Most people, if not all are situational. Don't pretend you are otherwise.
Don’t expect too much from the human race then you won’t be disappointed
Basically rich sorts out his women and drugs alongside the suite
"I think we've had one argument in ten years"
Hearing that made me sad - you argue with your mates because you care about them.
If one of my friends was spending this much money on gambling, it would be an argument bc that's not healthy at all.
This isn't a friendship at all, in the same way that corporations don't care about you.
Yeah 100% have a friend who blew heaps on sports betting. A bunch of us sat him down and told him to pull his head in
@@patwaddington mad late response but you're good mates. You've probably saved him a lot of heartache and trouble with that. Nice one
They really need to do a part 2 or an update on the characters in this.
I had forgotten about this one and how sad it is. Louis at his best.
That ‘friend’ no doubt got a raise after this
Saw Alan working the front door as a concierge at the North York Marriott in 2018, I recognized him and asked if he was Alan from the BBC documentary, as he looked the same and he had an "Alan" name tag. He wasn't thrilled, but he admitted it was so. Talk about a fall from grace. Feel sorry for the guy. Need and obsession took his fortune.
He's been driving an Uber more recently apparently. His wife divorced him also. Sad.
So sad.
Why is it sad? He’s knowingly gambled his life away
They don't make winners in Las Vegas, people come to reality quicker than others knowing how much money they loss in the casinos.
@@user-dq6se6er8j People knowingly drink their lives away too. Doesn't mean it isn't sad
"We are friends first, business later.. also he works at the casino" 😅
When I was a kid a friend of mines father gave him a mini slot machine that took actual money, and left some money in it, with the keys.
We used to play on it and it was fun, but we kept having to use the keys to carry on.
Learning the gambler always loses and the casino always wins at such a young age was a very valuable lesson.
I'll always be grateful.
"It's all complimentary"
Biggest scam going...he paid $400,000 for that room.
stephen stewart what are you basing that figure on?
I don't know what his bets are. Let's say he played a 1000 hands of $5000 blackjack, using optimal strategy vs. lowest house edge. That's $5,000,000 turn over and a loss of 0.5% long term. So that's about 25k that he handed over long term. Not that bad.
@@Paretozen These kind of gamblers are all over the place though, they don't play with a methodical strategy.
@@Paretozen in the documentary he was betting several tousand a spin on roulette and losing big. He spent the rest of the time feeding 100 dollar bills into a slot machine. Aparently the guy went bankrupt and works as an uber driver now.
@@skylinecams7851 your kidding right? What's the guys name?
Louis is awesome in these documentaries.
Can’t wait to see Louis Theroux’ new documentaries.
this dude ended up losing around 400k in 3 days
no, not lost, he had a good time
but he still lost the money
+gearsofawesome476 no he bought a nice time
For 400,000? That's more than you'd spend for a nice time.
that's almost the value of my home. jesus christ that is an absurd amount of money to lose in 3 days.
Give us some of that zany British irony Louis. And watch it fall unnoticed into oblivion.
It definitely didn't go unnoticed, and it is hardly subtle.
@@markus7166 Gosh. Well that's me told 😂😂
That room isn’t free and those guys aren’t friends.
With friends like that, who needs enemies, applies here 100%
For all the people saying (1) Allan went broke and (2) started driving Uber. Only the (2) is true. If you look for an interview with Richard Wilk from earlier this year you’ll hear that Allan retired and started occasionally driving Uber because he likes talking to people.
He didn’t lose his fortune. Sadly, however, he did suffer a family tragedy.
Thats interesting im going to watch that now. Thanks for mentioning it :)
Then what happened
I find that hard to believe. He can't join any clubs as a multimillonaire? He has to be a cabbie and deal with some of the worst people ever?
@@MrAdriandipsf look at the original comment and look how you just changed everything they said occasionally does uber and you’re saying he has to be a cabbie i would love to see u talk in real life for 5 minutes just so i can see how genuinely delusional you are id let you pick the topic
So, Allan still has no real friends.
ha..the big room. Right over his head.
I love how this guy is insanely rich but unable to understand basic sarcasm.
alfamonk American
A lot of British humour would fly a mile over most American's heads.
the big room? I don't get it lmao
i dont get it too can u explain?
Clean your filters, mr cameraman.
I don't feel 'sorry' for him, he's clearly in a great financial position considering he was willing to lose almost half a mil but it's so evident that he's lonely and spending money through frivolous means is a way to hinder that feeling.
So rich yet so poor.
That's a great point actually. This might explain why so many rich people, or people that worship money, act so desperate for things.
He's driving for uber now. No joke.
alZiiHardstylez he won't be in a 'great financial position' for long
Just because he's a massive gambling addict, doesn't mean he has to be lonely.
Not now he’s a Uber driver. For real. Look it up.
Thanks for your expertise, by the way.
love to see a catch up with this fella
Even though its his money it does make you feel a bit sick knowing he throws what would be life changing money for most people around like a toy
I wonder if the suite's 'comps' included some top-of-the-range Vegas bootay
+David H im sure they have hook ups for that.
It does, that is why he hesitated when the BBC guy kept prying into his relationship with the Hilton and Rich. Rich obviously has connections and can set parties up at the suite if necessary.
Of course 😂
I know a host in Vegas, officially no but behind closed doors with management and clients they do lmao.
I mean it's legal there right?
“Vegas , they didn’t build these places on winners”
LOVE LOUIS .........all day everyday....thanks bro...........stay safe....... PEACE
3:30 "Everybody's a looser..." that is some nice perspective
King for a day, fool for a lifetime
"It's a lot of money" 😅 and now that guy is without any money.
I just got sad when he said 'I'm his friend first'... 'cause. Nope. 'We've had ONE argument'. Thing is, with my (real) friends, I can have the worst fights, because they tell me everything. It's not the less you fight, but the more...
He staying there for 3 days and it's honestly scary how much you can lose in 2 minutes. Gambling addiction is the worst of the worst
There is a story going around that this dude now drives for Uber. look it up
@@KristianH1986 What would I look up? That's not surprising at all lol
@@KristianH1986 I found what you were talking about. I wish there was more information
Alan drives for UBER now.. no joke, look it up!!!!
Your simply the best guy in Vegas
“This is the largest suite in North America...that I know of”
I mean, I doubt there are too many 15,000 sq ft hotel rooms in the US
Alan is right about the short term ups and downs but any gambler is very aware of big picture losses over time.
They don’t charge him for the room but he loses 500 thousand dollars in the casino and the rooms free
Why does this interaction feel like something out of a movie
This guy drives an uber for a living now, legit.
"We've had one argument in ten years." Buddy - you aren't friends if that is true.
0:14
Akward hug 😆
I remember RIchard Wilk and Alan from Fox's show in 2004 The Casino when Wilk was at Golden Nugget. Years prior to this being filmed.
I just came back from Las Vegas, nothing "comp" for me! Except for two watery drinks and a beer..
Louis is just sensational. Incredible documentaries. Where can I find the whole stuff?
yandex search
Rich makes my skin crawl.
"I think it's the..."
I DON'T THINK YOU DO THINK!!!
Love how the BBC shot a documentary with a dirty camera lens. :D
nice room wow
“Compted”
There’s no way this guy has been in the industry more than a week. If not a complete imposter.
Rich is not his friend he is his enabler/dealer, Allan is selling him the rush/adrenalin.
This is the largest suite in north America
that I know of
Ballin
I'm so glad that gambling bores me.
Me too - also, I go to church so I have God and don't need to waste my money gambling.
Butler isn't that good, he served the bottle of water with no glass!
At first like aight it's nice then saw the long hall and private courtyard w/pool like hot damn that's nice
Wheres the entire documentary? It used to be on RUclips
some people are easily impressed
lmao dude working at the casino "this is the largest suite in America ok..... that I know of...."
I’d just hang out and do cartwheels in the room instead
The casinos in Los Vega always look super tacky to me.
Christ that lens is filthy
Just saw another youtube video of LT and Allen the high roller is now an Uber driver.
Jeeez. A 30 second ad before the vid. Is this what RUclips is becoming??????
For a moment I thought they're about to start kissing....
JoLee Hoo
A bit weird all that "hey buddy" stuff wasn't it? A bit too much. The arms around each other lingered for just a second longer than they should have.
Actually I suspect that Louis is using a line from the American sitcom Seinfeld where Jerry goes 'Why didn't you get the big one?' in response to George getting a ridiculous huge fur hat.
Legend has it that Alan is now an Uber driver🤦🏻♂️ what a mess
Never mix business with pleasure. Rich is taking this joker for a ride.
0:25 your paying my salary this year buddy.
Alan did make an interesting point at the end there.
Everyone's taking a risk and gambles every day just by stepping outside, getting in your car to work or whatever.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
"Best butler in Vegas"
Proceeds to dump a plastic water bottle to the guest instead of pouring it into a glass
Finally someone who sees it to
He probably assumed they were going to be walking somewhere right after he gave him the water, which he guessed correctly. He did the right thing.
At least he could offered a glass with some ice.
I love how rich says that his credit line is a lot, yet later in the actual episode they struggle to get him $5,000 in credit and settle for $3,000 despite him losing over $100k on average per trip.
I was thinking about that, lmao
I was in Vegas last year during Super Bowl and these two High Rollers gamble big at the Circa in Downtown Fremont. A brother is kicked out over a disagreement on large comps. They loss about $500k in high roller gambling and the high roller thought about the principle of promising the comp.
So he is paying for the suite...! And then some.
Any one seen the whole show I would love to know the Big Band Song played 5 mins before the end of the Documentary
The car salesman I bought my car from was is a great “friend” of mine too. He put his arm around me like that too. I regret giving that “friend” a cent
what really says a lot is when Louis leaves room for silence and they immediately start to get insecure and defensive
that old sub button at the end of the video... damn old times
Before RUclips was a cesshole of unskippable adverts stacked atop more adverts and other whoreshit
Hard to believe how he has so much money, seems like he's actually a nice guy lol.
He owns a huge mattress company and warehouse.
There’s definitely such a thing as too much space. I don’t wanna walk for minutes everyday just to get to my kitchen or bathroom, bedroom…
"This is the largest suite in North America...that I know of...but I have to say...I don't know much things."
Clean the lens !
Clean my nuts
the way he pronounces his vowels is much more in line with the American accent, like "not" pronounced more like "nAt" as opposed to "naught" (the latter being canadian; much the same way Americans say "sawrry" and canadians say "sorry"). So while he may be from Toronto, I'd say he has either spent a number of years in the States or was born there.
It makes me laugh when they say “ everything is compt” 😂 no it’s not buddy
As an ex gambler so happy not to go through these "thrills" When ure up it's never enough, when ure down it's the
💩est feeling ever. Cant sleep, worrying about bills. Gambling's a mugs game.
Congratulations on kicking the habit Robin
god damn why is the lens so dirty? LOL
"how you doing? I'm louie"
The house always wins!
"Vanity is the legacy the British left behind."
To be fair, there are no clocks in casinos.
Probably he lost track of time, and ended up spending a couple of decades there.
That Alan guy must not have any real friends. LOL.
And that suite is sooooo tacky. IKEA is more classy than that crap.
I've seen worse. Google "Trump Home" or "Biff Tannen Casino Hotel Suite"
I agree
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Richard Wilk in Vegas for my channel. We spoke about him, the casino business...and the Louis Theroux documentary obviously! The interview is in two parts, with the bulk of the Louis talk in the second episode (including a definitive update on Allan's story)
