I especially loved Rubicante in the DS/Steam version. "It was Lugae who made chimerae of your parents. I shared no hand in his perversities. They shame me, as they grieve you."
I still remember the pure terror I felt when hearing this for the first time. I was but a young child and had just breathed a sigh of relief after a difficult battle against Milon. I proceeded immediately across the bridge only to be surprised with a back attack by a fiend of a monster and this dreadful tune. My mages stood no chance in front and fell quickly, soon followed by Cecil. I can not think of a more fitting theme for this fight. btw, probably the best rendition of it I have ever heard throughout the years.
+battheman777 Thanks! I'm really glad they added these special boss battle themes in the SNES FF games. It really does help emphasize the intensity of the battle. I guess that's why I also covered the Atma Weapon theme from FF6 and Boss Battle 2 from Chrono Trigger.
+battheman777 Yes and in a first playthrough when you dont know how Milon works hes hard as fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Yet still easier than barbariccia who still somewhat kicks my ass today still even by knowing the game pretty well...
I remember being poisoned and running out of antidotes and my party dropping like flies one by one. Cecil barely managed a killing blow before falling to poison too. I was a kid and it was the biggest sense of accomplishment winning that fight. I fell in love with this tune as well.
@@magnadongalo5067 Believe it or not, I got lucky my first time. I accidentally flipped the rows while sorting out my party formations (don't remember why, just that I was) and when he hit me for the second time I was wondering why I was facing the right way in a back attack lol. FF4DS was the first Final Fantasy game I ever played too... also my second favorite, just after 12.
Thank you, finally someone who has some proper emphasis on the drums. Lots of other versions seem to ignore them or diminish them greatly, but they really help set the dire tone.
This seems to be a common issue among people who make remixes and arrangements, they neglect the drums, the bass, or both. It usually makes me click away from the video instantly because many songs become souless without them...
Same here. They've got some good ones, especially in the SNES era - Battle on the Big Bridge and Dancing Mad (fourth segment) are both really good, as is Golbez, Clad in Dark from this very game - but Dreadful Fight/Battle with the Four Fiends blows them all away.
BACK ATTACK!! Being a kid and not knowing how to do a row-switch when resurrected zombie Milon attacks you from behind is terrifying! And you're confronted with a brand-new boss theme making it ten times more epic! One of the reasons why FFIV was an early masterpiece for SNES. Malcolm Robinson is by far the best arranger of SNES music I've encountered. He seems to have little ego, lets all the original notes speak for themselves while using his powers to enhance the piece with high end orchestral libraries and creative subtlety in all the right areas. It's like what the original composer WOULD have done if they had full access to a complete modern orchestra at the time. Simply marvelous.
*Rubicante enters the scene* Edge: Rubicante.... For this.... For this!... YOU WILL PAY! Rubicante: It was Lugae, who made chimerae, of your parents. I shared no hand, in his perversities. They shame me, as they grieve you. Edge: Don't speak of shame! Rubicante: I respect men like you. Men with.... Courage. But you are a slave to your emotions, and so, will never know true strength. Such, is the curse of men. Edge: You think our rage.... A WEAK-NESS?! Then let me show you!... HOW WRONG YOU ARE! *Edge's anger awakened his latent powers. Edge learned Flood and Blitz!* Rubicante: You, are an interesting one, indeed. Such powers, unleashed by anger alone. But they will not avail you! The frozen winds of Hell's ninth circle, could not penetrate this cloak of flame, I wear. Come, I will heal your wounds! *HP and MP restored!* Rubicante: Face me at FULL STRENGTH! *Battle commences*
He's definitely up there. Rubicante is equivalent to Gogandantess from Onimusha 2. Out of all the iterations of the original Final Fantasy IV, the Nintendo DS version uses the best script, as evidenced by my initial comment.
@@DJBSharpMusic Gaius and Zenos in XIV are also very honorable....though Gaius is much more so, as Zenos has no qualms about "weaklings" being slaughtered, while Gaius abhors senseless slaughter and actually cares about the people he conquers, but both of them are still willing to openly acknowledge the strength and skill of an worthy opponent (you), with Gaius going even one step further by trying to persuade you to join him (without any dishonorable tactics like using a hostage, he simply offers you a place by his side as his ally and friend while acknowledging your strength and skill) and both refuse to face a worthy opponent with help, instead choosing to fight you entirely on their own (Gaius only resorts to Ultima Weapon when he realizes that he can't actually defeat you without it, and yet he still shows you respect through it all).
+Joseph Carroll Thanks! I know what you mean. Sometimes when I listen to these I can see the original battle scenes in my mind and hear the sound effects too!
Great job, probably the best orchestration of this song I've heard so far! Battle with the Four Fiends is one of my favorite FF battle themes, and your arrangement really captures the intensity of the song.
ChrystalChameleon Thank you! I couldn't find any high quality versions other than the official live orchestral one, but that one, while very beautifully done, has a lot of changes which make it more appropriate for a concert and less appropriate for in-game music. I wanted my version to sound like it could be used in the game, so I didn't mess with the tempo and only added extra layers and instruments that aren't too noticeable (woodwinds, snare drums, orchestral chimes, etc.). The majority of my time was spent adjusting the dynamics of the brass and strings. This track took forever to do, so I think it's time for me to take a "break" and work on a bunch of simpler pieces.
Malcolm Robinson Music * Eyes open wide and jar drops * This shit is FUCKING magnificent. It's on par with the SFC/SNES original (For different and similar reasons) and MUCH better than the Nintendo DS rendition in every regard. * Claps hands gently a few times * Bravo!
JonathanFerGold I appreciate the positive feedback! :) I also thought the DS version was disappointing, but I'm glad you think mine is on par with the best version.
Final Fantasy IV was the first FF game I ever played. I don't usually prefer music remakes over the originals, but that's not the case here. This remake is awesome! I'd love to hear you remake Zeromus's theme. :D

I just discovered these awesome orchestral arrangements of some of my favorite music in the world from my favorite games in the world, and I just have to say THANK YOU for making this stuff. It's so good.
Oh god, this is SO good!, seriously, I love it! This track still gives me goosebumps, and your version is so vibrant and full of depth and nuance. I can't wait to hear you do the final battle (Zeromus theme)

CampForChamp Thanks for the kind comment! I'm certainly doing my best with these arrangements, but I still have a lot to learn. I'm sure I'll get a significant amount of subscribers eventually if I just keep making content consistently.
Final Fantasy had a way of making the boss fights feel like they really were for all the marbles through the music. The first notes of this song hit, and you knew you were in for it.
Well, I have something to congratulate you on once again. Why this remix has always been great, it now seems Soken has taken passing inspiration into the same direction with his remix for Final Fantasy XIV's newest patch. Only thing missing is a very slightly sped up tempo and electric bass and a guitar.
+kain the dragoon It's false of course, because it's relative to the quality of the many as well as the one. But ultimately The GodHand is greater than The Dragon's Claw...& only one person need clench.
As soon as I start listening to this, I can hear the sounds of Rosa and Rydia frantically casting spells in my head and it gives me goosebumps. This is such a great remix and very true to the original.
Outstanding! Seriously, this is quite possibly the _best_ version I have heard. This is what the younger me playing through the Advance versions (SNES was a _long_ time ago, okay?) was hearing...
This theme is used in several other battles besides the Elemental Fiends. Several of the more epic weapons in the game are guarded by monsters that use this theme in their battles. Awesome rendition!
I forgot the epicosity ( I think I just made up a word) of this theme!!! This might sound odd, but how you transitioned from all the power of the song into 1:03 and then the timpani rolls in 🤩 I dare say it's better than the original. It's like taking a deep breath before rolling back into the epic fight. Spectacular sir!
Thank god for this, honestly. Finally, a reorchestration that doesn't use the shitty default trumpets that comes with programs. They kill me! This is wonderful.
liz farron Thanks! I also have a very low tolerance for cheap brass. It's possible to get away with cheap synth strings in some situations, but cheap brass tends to be more noticeable. I did my best with this one using professional software, but I made a few minor mixing mistakes, so there's still room for improvement.
