I nearly went into this fight as a Black Mage until I mentally was like "I have no idea what it might be like so lets go with SMN instead" and I am... so grateful for past me. Also the fact the random group had 2 RDMs and 2 SMNs as well as healers so there were *6* raises available.
@@cam1000123 A single decent RDM with full MP (or at least, good means of recovering MP quickly) is, in my experience, worth about *5* Raises just by themselves, and this is coming from a RDM main! There was a moment during a run of Orbonne when we were fighting Ultima and we had just gotten through the gauntlet of simultaneous Belias, Hashmal, & Famfrit chaos. Alliances B & C were pretty much fine at that point, with each having at most one person down (who were promptly revived). Alliance A (my Alliance) on the other hand? Alliance A got absolutely *DECIMATED* with only *two* of us surviving: myself (as our only RDM) and our BRD....we'd lost our Tank, both Healers, and 3 of our 5 DPS! And add to that the fact that we now had only about 15-20 seconds to get into the barrier for "Ruination" to begin. During that brief window of time, I was able to revive our Tank, both Healers, and two of the three DPS (only one I couldn't revive in time was our NIN both because they were well out of range on the other side of the map and I was totally spent on MP) all in time for us to all be in place to help during Ruination. And then about halfway through Ruination I also managed to revive our NIN. Once Ruination was over, I saw my Alliance chat begin lighting up with comments like "Red Mage Best Job" and "i think you mean rez mage". After the run was over I also got a whopping 5 Commendations for it. Getting that kind of praise and recognition felt so damn good that I had a big ol' grin plastered on my face for a good while afterwards. It's moments like that which make me love being a RDM main. Another moment that I remember (more for amusement factor than anything else) was during a Light Party instance (I forget the name atm, but it's the one where you fight the Griffon at the end), and during the final fight at around the halfway point, our Healer goes down, but I almost immediately was able to get the Healer back on their feet (I was the only RDM present again, as our other DPS I *think* was either a DRG or SAM, it was so long ago that I can't remember for certain), and that was enough to save the entire run. And then I got a good laugh when the other DPS remarked how he figured it was a wipe when our Healer went down, only for him to suddenly be very confused when the Healer was suddenly alive again....before he realized *"Oh, right! We have a Red Mage!"* :P I'm currently taking a break from the game, but I will most likely get back into it sooner or later (I play on the Diabolos server).

Her real name might be tied to the statue at her domain which might be Cecile (since she's a woman).
@@IaconDawnshire maybe he wants to do both, invade source, get aether and fix his world/kill Zeromus with source aether empowering him/his army. Big dude has a big agenda I'd be really disappointed if he's just a Cloud of darkness 2.0 so to speak. He was really motivated when CoD was knocked down a few pegs in the hirarchy so he can enact his plans and she just wanted to destroy the source so I think he has a bigger picture in mind even if he wants/needs to invade to make his goal reachable.
if zero is zeromus, then golbez is the wols 13th shard, and to end zeromus we must fuse together like we did with ardy to contain and use the light as a weapon
Zero never lost her memory. She died moments before the Flood hit, which is why she escaped being transformed, but her soul was cut off from the lifestream due to the Flood and eventually returned to the Thirteenth. I'm more inclined to believe her original name was Rosa :P My speculation is that Zeromus is more likely a sundered ascian that got erased when the shard fell, just like how we dealth with Emet-Selch on the First. Golbez however, correctly assumed the Source is the base of operations of the Ascians and seeks to invade and destroy them to restore the Thirteenth. But to throw open the gates to the Source, he needs a lot of aether in an aether-starved world, and an army to unleash upon the Source.

Her real name might be tied to the statue at her domain which might be Cecile (since she's a woman).
Would be intriguing if Golbez was trying to end Zeromus but I think he's trying to invade the Source
I'm more inclined to believe her original name was Rosa :P
My speculation is that Zeromus is more likely a sundered ascian that got erased when the shard fell, just like how we dealth with Emet-Selch on the First.
Golbez however, correctly assumed the Source is the base of operations of the Ascians and seeks to invade and destroy them to restore the Thirteenth. But to throw open the gates to the Source, he needs a lot of aether in an aether-starved world, and an army to unleash upon the Source.
@@1jidion Consider how Golbez is related to Cecil, and our WoL is going full Cecil in EW, so yea
The whole 6.2 update has given me an itch to play the first 6 final fantasy games.
. . . "LOVIN' GIRLS, LOVIN' GIRLS, INTEREST IN GUYS IS A NO - NO !"
A hair-raising masterpiece!
"You've been here five minutes and you already took down two of my four best servants?! Who the fuck are you?!"
"My last bbeg was an universal threat. You're a downgrade at best."
Golbez may not have any great feats like other FF baddies but he is actually really strong.
"these your best? Dude... I just killed a god that's destroyed planets last Tuesday"
Golbez: .... Oh hell naw....
This has to be one of the most fast paced fights in the entire game, extreme included
Healing this was shocking but it’s one of my fights now
@@calypsodiora7890 Yeah I absolutely loved this as a healer! I felt busy, but thankfully i was on sage so moving around wasn’t hard.
I just spent 5 or so hours blind progging the extreme, this song is stuck in my head ;_;
Worth every sec
Pretty sure you regret nothing.
it took my static 7 hours of blind prog
worth it
when she started talking about her hair i was expecting her to be like rapunzel, and was confused when her hair wasn't that long, then i get to her lair and i understand where all the hair went o_o
This fight can absolutely be described as “brain go brrrrrrrr”. Everytime i play it i stress during the fight but then come out of the fight super chill. cause after everything the second phase throws at you it still feels fair. 😅
I can not WAIT to see what Soken does to Zeromus' theme. That is going to absolutely slap.
TBH by the title I wouldn't be surprised if the same theme will play every time-
@@Carsu12 Even if that is the theme they use for the last two Fiends, I'd wager that won't be the case if Zeromus shows up.
I would be absolutely shocked and appalled if Soken didn't put hands on Zero's theme.
I don't think Zeromus will be in the game tbh. Endsinger was Zeromus.
@@KaitoN25 Yeah they did pretty much part him out for this whole story arc, with Emet-Selch's motivations similar to Zemus, and Endsinger is obviously inspired by Zeromus. But they could easily find a way to weave him into the story with no problem. He's pretty inextricably linked to Golbez.
That said, he doesn't NEED to be back for all this to work. Ultimately whether they use him or not is immaterial; I trust this is going to be well done regardless.
BUT... they can't do the FF4 throwback without that theme. They just can't!! 🥴 Soken must bring it back! He brought every other FF4 theme back, why would he leave that one, right? Right?!? That'd be crazy😵💫.... He must bring it back...
😖
*screaming at the sky* YOU HEAR ME SOKEN!!!!
*breaks down sobbing*
...you must...
@@KaitoN25 in all seriousness, I wouldn't be surprised if they used it for Golbez; as a first phase theme, or something to that effect.
This was a reallu fun fight! It was well done with all those AoEs dance
I wonder how blms played in it lol
@@mlemlemmlemmlem surprisingly well, theres a lot of aoe but rarely ones where you have to move a long distance
@@mlemlemmlemmlem It looks pretty friendly for slide-casting
@@jacobkern2060 I love slide casting, I'm gonna try it! Especially with that new caster gear, ooooo shit I'm gonna be a demon
@@mlemlemmlemmlem on normal it wasn't too bad, yeah
extreme on the other hand is a nightmare of a fight
I wonder if they will do the 4 at once rematch or if they will save that for an ultimate.
Oh.
Now I just realized.
We might get different versions of this song, due to it being suffixed with Buried Memory patch name?
Wow, now I can hardly wait for 6.3
this aged well
the extra name was because this soundtrack was originally from FFIV but makes sense why you'd say that
Rubicante once said that our rage is a weakness. But the moment when his fight comes, I will be looking forward to prove *HOW* *WRONG* *HE* *IS!!* (go full Ninja)
"You are an interested one indeed.
Such powers, unleashed by anger alone.
But they will not avail you! The frozen winds of Hell's Ninth Circle could not penetrate this cloak of flame i wear.
Come, I will heal your wounds.
Face me at full strength!"
well this fight certianly got us into some hairy situations
(played ff4 twice, has Cecils paladin armor equipped, mains paladin and dark knight)
*I was ready for this.*
Phase 2 of her fight was easily the most fun I've had in normal content.
Yes even more fun that Susano's sword phase.
We are going to fight all four of them at the same time and I am
Looking forward to it
God I had to babysit my poor healer during phase 2 as a tank.
The sheer amount of chaos, trying to keep them as protected as I could so they can revive the party.
This is easily one of the most fun trials I've experienced.
4:52 She went from Tangled to Female Titan.
"You want muscle mommies? Okay, have Female Titan from AoT"
I need more of this Barbariccia.
What a hair-raiser!
Interesting how they give the Four Fields swords. Cagnazo probably won't have one but I wonder if Rubicante does. Problably a fire sword like a badass. Maybe Golbez can have the Ebony Sword he uses in The After Years.
Cagnazzo has a weird swirly red thing in his Amano art that could be interpreted as a sword or dagger. Rubicante doesn't though.
The shift to retro tho
Are people really ready for her extreme fight?? I mean look at that mechanics even in normal mode hahaha damn i can't wait
Wasn't too bad honestly, took 2 hours with a savage experienced group. Was pretty cool to blind prog though.
huh? this fight (at least on normal, havn't done extrem) was incredibly basic. phase 1 had some things to watch out, but phase 2 is basicaly just "dodge AOE". and it is not that hard. when you can dodge all of it without problems as a blackmage, then it really isn't that hard
@@Dr.AvenVon Normal was a 1 shot, doesn't have anything special. Extreme is significantly harder, which is the one I was refencing as requiring around 2h of prog if blind.
@@idc6655 and I was not talking to you. They said that even on Normal it was hard which it clearly wasnt
Me queueing for this the first time as Scholar, poor babby me not even knowing what I was getting into on day 1 I just had a healer geared for the time being.
...I lived? But I don't remember how. I think survival instincts brought on by the music did it.
I wasn't expecting any of this fight to pop off as hard as it did, including barbariccia becoming short haired bayonetta in phase 2 and gomu gomu no bazookaing the stage
holy crap, don't know what I was expecting when I qued into this fight the first time, but I was NOT ready for this fight. Although that being said, I wanted to jump right back in and run it again as soon as I got out because hot damn that was fun
As an avid Final Fantasy IV fan I have Vietnam flashbacks listening to this and as soon as I reach Endwalker I know I'll have Vietnam flashbacks of XIV as well
I did this fight, for the first time, blind, AS BLACK MAGE!!!
My condolences.
This theme is such a certified classic.
I love this fight so much. 2nd phase feels like a real challenge dodging everything she throws at you. Hate when you need to memorize a fight, it becomes boring.
The part starting at 0:49 just because of 6.3's version I can't unhear lyrics
I know for a fact that there's going to be an Ultimate where you're gonna have to fight all four fiends at once... or something to that effect.
I think in one of the rereleases of FF4, the four fiends actually combine into one. Maybe they could put that nod in there too.
@@painrelief3441 geryon who follows the name scheme of the fiends. Geryon is another demon from the divine comedy. In FF4 Geryon is the Malice of the four fiends.
I swear to God these guys just throw 3/4 where ever they want.
i remember i was laughing like an idiot fighting this boss for the amount of AoE it drops XD
Barbariccia’s arrival gave me the greatest feeling of “holy shit, we are fucked” from a FF14 boss in recent memory
Such a great remix.
You thought this was barbariccia the archfiend but It was me, dio!!!!
This song is too bloody addicting. After hearing this absolute banger for the first time I can no longer get that little part at 4:26 to 4:34 out of my head too. Feels absolutely nostalgic.
As someone that hasn't played much of FF14 but did grow up on FF games (with 4 and 6 being my favorites).. trust me when I say, this song hits so hard no matter the version of it it's got a permanent spot in my gym playlist. Battle with the Four Fiends hits everything perfectly. You KNOW it's about to get rough when you start hearing it and your blood just starts rushing, heart practically matches the beat.
I honestly prefer it over Dancing Mad as my favorite single track from any FF game.
This was the first EX I ever did properly and in all the hours working on this fight, I never got sick of this tune. It always felt awesome during the fight.
Talk about a blast from the past.
This is the She-Hulk I prefer ❤️
This OST slaps hard. If you listen close, there are references to the GBA version of the song scattered throughout.
E.G. 1:36
Gawd...I love this song so much...I remember playing OG Final Fantasy II on SNES before it was corrected in the US. That first "fiend" transforming and then the epic boss music transitioned to this song and my expectations of "boss music" were changed forever.
I do enjoy how challenging EX is but I'm glad I don't have to do it anymore. It was very hard to find decent players who knew the fight.
Dodging all of the AoEs as a SAM on my first time here made me feel like a badass.
Unfortunately, the Main Tank Disconnected, and since I was No. 2 on emnity that Tankbuster smashed my head, hard
Too bad there's no merciful eyes
you are going to emnity jail
*bonk*
Just disconnect as well so you avoid the tankbuster
I do appreciate her take on carbon fiber muscle weave.
I expected a fight like the original game with a jump to break the tornado form. Instead, l've got a Jojo's fight full of Ora!ora!ora! and Muda!muda!muda!
IT WAS SO GREAT
Did this fight today, so many of her attacks are so telegraphed that reaper’s crest of time becomes guaranteed healing
Barbariccia's seiyuu check:
Did you hire Yuko Kaida (CV for Rosa) to voice as Barbie?
To prove to myself I could still heal in content after swapping to DPS for over two years, I did this fight. I had 5 newbies and we didn’t wipe. Felt great.
“Your scouring winds only seek to feed my flames! I’ll send you back to where you belong, Empress of Gales!”
My Dumbass DPS self running into the red stack marker >.>
this is how i always imagined this song would be modernized. I LOVE the tubular bell hits.
There are far too many versions of this that don't have the supporting elements that make this tick, I'm glad it got the treatment it deserved
This is the most fun extreme content I've ever done
Had a BLM week one trying to get a clear, managed to get it down after a lot of trial and error and they went "You know what, I got my clear, I'll see ya'll later."
Btw she says "oraoraora" in japanese after transformation lol
Havent played FFXIV, mechanics of this seems different. But...um....do you still need Kain to make a jump and break the Whirlwind thingie?
play and find out 💪
i think this might be my favorite *official* version of this theme, Soken did a really good job with the re-orchestration
tbh this is afaik the only track i couldnt listen to while progging, my brain just fries after the 4th loop. I especially dont like the damped/radio bit of this. This should have been her Dodge-phase theme as i found the "normal" phase very slow and just dosnt fit to whats happening
Judging by the sound and mix it seems more like Daiki Ishikawa (listen to Finality, it is very similar). But nonetheless, an amazing work
@@nikitapigusov2849 Soken is the lead of the music team so hes involved with every music made for the game regardless of who else participates xD
@@nikitapigusov2849 It's indeed Ishikawa.
@@GiorgosAigio96 The original comment credits Soken for the "reorchestration" which turns out to be false. Soken is the sound director but it doesn't necessarily mean that he's directly involved with the creation of the music unless he's explicitly credited for the arrangement officially. He may be the one giving tasks/instructions to other composers/arrangers and perhaps giving approval to their work. But when crediting a person's direct work for the rearrangement, it's not necessarily Soken. In this case, it's Daiki ishikawa. This is simply giving due credit to the right person(s).
Her second form gives me Alexia Ashford vibes.
tbh i didn't expect for her to turn into bayonetta mode instead of the classic hair tornado that engulfs her own body. but nonetheless it was really nice
Reminder that this is the SECOND hair-themed boss fight in this game.
And they're both voidsent-related.
I don’t think anyone expected her to use her hair as fucking battle armor but you know what, I dig it
