@@ongbruhlol Cool! I bought a 1803 6 months ago, bark center links and bezel I love the rich yellow Gold presence, this is the quintessential Gold watch.
My favorite watch of all watches. It was my grail from the time I was a teenager. Proud to own a 18238 and a 18239 - they get more wear than anything else in my collection. Thanks for the video!
Teddy, as mentioned on the comments here, your research, content and presentation is unmatched. I saw the 1803 on my dad’s wrist decades ago. It fit his dress & style. This timepiece has been handed down to me as my dad’s mental & physical abilities have diminished. Although the shiny-ness is nowhere near my taste, I wear this precious metal 18K gold piece on occasions for Dad just to keep it running mechanically and in my memory. I will pass it on to my son upon his maturity. Teddy, thank you for featuring this sentimental piece on your channel.
I love the Rolex Day-Date. My boyfriend bought one with his first big signing bonus in the late 80s. He now owns over 40 watches, from Rolex GMT Master II to vintage Omegas and an old Patek Philippe.
Teddy Baldassarre For you, and for other people, sure, for some of us with over 8-inch wrists, big beards and 7ft tall, a 36mm watch looks like a toy from a cereal box. Nice video.
My dad always wore the gold Rolex Day-Date "president" with a champagne dial. But, he was a flashy, Cadillac Eldorado driving, custom leather jacket wearing, cigar smoking gambler, so it fit him perfectly. I'm a Brietling and Tudor guy myself, couldn't pull off wearing that gold monster.
My late grandfather owned a 18038 Day-Date since the mid 80s and he switched the fluted bezel with an aftermarket diamond one, as well as applied aftermarket diamonds to the center links of the bracelet (which unfortunately made it tough to service but I’ll get to that in a bit). That watch was eventually gifted to my dad when he and my mom got married in 1990. After my grandfather died of lung cancer in 2014, my dad gave the watch to my mom as a remembrance piece where she kept it and wore it until she eventually died of complications from pancreatic cancer in 2020. Fast forward to now, my dad and I finally sent the watch over to the Rolex service center in Belgium since it hasn’t been given a proper service since then, and because my family has had a strong relationship with that specific service center. The hands, dial and crystal were replaced with modern versions, the movement was also modernized, and the original fluted bezel we kept for the watch was reinstalled. A replacement factory bracelet was also installed, and the entire piece was polished to perfection. Now the watch is working perfectly again and it’s in my own possession. Never selling it.
I own a 1803 just when they introduced the hidden clasp, and I absolutely love the watch. I purchased it thirty years ago and serviced it only once and it still is as accurate as the day I purchased it. The watch looks very blingy being all gold but don't let that fool you the watch is very robust and built like a tank and can take a beating. I wear it all the time even when wearing shorts and a tee and can care less what other people think, the bracelet is as comfortable as it gets and just feels good on the wrist.
A year ago I hated Rolex and swore I'd never fall for what I perceived to be their garish designs at the time. Nowadays I trawl instagram and RUclips in an attempt to satiate the way I covet a DD36mm. Truly truly truly a grail piece.
Heard a guy say once that when he was growing up he remembers seeing the guys that really out there doing something had a yellow gold president. I would have to agree with him on that.

I love both of them since I have both of them. Both Vintage 1978 models 18038 & 1807. I love my bark one most coz the bark just too unique & rare. Great vid.
For those of us who are not Presidents of anything. Bulova makes a quartz very, very similar model as the Rolex President. Full top day, side date, it keeps perfect time. I purchased mine on Ebay for 5 bucks no joke, and a nominal shipping fee. It came filthy the seller found it in a box he bought in a state sale, I guess all the crud scared him off. I cleaned it, took me about an hour, put a battery in it, I am wearing it right now. I love watches this one fits me best, it looks great.
The ultimate Polarizing watch. You either need to be 100% comfortable in your skin and wear it as an afterthought or a UNIVERSAL DOUCHE! Another great video, thank you for all of your hard work!!
it is an awesome watch. I was a dream watch for me for many years and finally I bought one two years ago. 40mm Blue dial 18K white gold. It is a perfect watch as all Rolex are. Also very heavy at 220 grams. Since I got 18K white gold, it is not as flash as yellow or rose gold. So I wear it often when I am home, but when I am traveling (I am traveling sales person), of course, I travel with some of my favorite micro brands. currently, I am in Guatemala with Monta Oceanking, Tisell Submersible and my work out watch, Amazfit. Again, Rolex President is flawless!!!!!
Hi ,nice video ,here my question,is it Bob watches recomendable? ,I being looking for some pieces there ,but had read different opinions, thank you and best Dar
I recently purchased the solid 18k yellow gold with the black diagonal dial. 40mm. It weighs my wrist down. My spouse said my eyes lit up like Gollum seeing the one ring for the first time when the dealer opened the box.
I'm looking to buy a used one. I think it's a gorgeous watch, phenomenal and iconic. It's simplicity is what makes it brilliant. Mines would be a yellow gold or if I want to be fancy a rose gold
I have the 1803 circa 1973. Mine is a bit more bling as it has a diamond dial. I love wearing the watch, and I will wear it with just about any type of clothing. The watch draws attention usually with quick glances. Setting the day and date is a PIA so I keep it on a winder. I love the pan pie dial. I love how unique it looks. The one change that I would make aesthetically would change the plexi to a sapphire crystal. My understanding is that it can be done, but I have yet to do so as I don't want to ruin the originality and spirit of the model.
I own one (burl dial, bark links) (and a number of other vintage solid-gold and 2-tone watches. It really does not catch that much attention at ~36mm - you can for sure wear it all the time and not be uncomfortable! Rather, it contributes to your overall appearance a little bit, if you dress appropriately. A 41mm with a gold dial might be more ostentatious if you wear it with t-shirts etc.
This is the comment I was looking for! Most of these comments are people who don't own one and wish they did so they say it's too flashy, I also own a 36mm 1803 with Bark finish, the bark finish is less flashy more classy and modern looking, not to mention has around 4 more Grams of Gold.
@@brucelee9941 For sure! In my experience, my two-tone Datejust thunderbird with gold tapestry is the most "bling", and attracts the most commentary - something about the steel/gold offset. Bark Day Date is quite stealthy (for a gold bracelet) because of the center link design.
@@DapperProf This is great I did so much watch movies but honestly all week your communication about watches was much more enjoyable, I had to look up the 2 tone thunderbird It is very beautiful especially in 2 tone with the gorgeous bezel, I own a 16233 Datejust 2 tone 18/SS Black dial factory diamonds, they do have quite a beautiful presence. I also just bought a Omega constellation 396.1069 in Solid 18k Gold I had the SS model and had to get it in Gold, plus it was half the price of the Rolex. My grand father gave me this 1803 a few years ago. Yes it does get noticed and I'm getting weird looks from people time to time, but who cares it's about you enjoying it.
You look like the type of guy that would be classy and if I saw you wearing one I would be like this guy is classy and be drawn to you. You deserve one my friend
I own Ref # 18078, which has the bark finish, a silver dial, but has only a single quick-set function for the date. Since I wear it daily, the day of the week is always correct. I do agree that having to reset the day of the week can be a pain, but a watch maker told me that winding the time back to around 7 pm and then going forward will change the day of the week. Not as convenient as a quick-set, but better than winding it over and over. The champagne dial isn't to my taste so the silver is my choice. White would also be good. The bark finish keeps it from being too flashy and when the light catches it just right, it's spectacular. Photos don't do it justice so it has to be seen in person to be appreciated. Also, my wrist is 7", so the 36 mm size looks just right.
I guess I feel the same way about this as you do. It’s a cool watch...and a significant one, but it is just too flashy...too attention-grabbing for my liking. In fact, I actually had one of these back in the 90’s, but sold it for that very reason. I replaced it with a TT Datejust on a jubilee bracelet that still fits in well with my normal rotation, and doesn’t demand nearly as much attention. But that’s just me...
I bought mine in 2008 in Rose Gold with the domed bezel. I had the correct 'Waves' dial installed at Rolex (they were popular for a while) in Amsterdam, when on a biz trip. I just had it serviced for the first time!
Teddy, I Love the watch! I own a 1803 as well, circu-1967. Ive had it serviced, bracelet is worn, but keeps excellent time, love the pie pan, champagne dial, really is an attention getter, but I just love the watch for itself, and all the history behind it. Matt 👍👍😜😜
There have been 3 sizes, 36,40, & 41mm. The 41mm or Day-Date II, stopped production several years ago. .There is no other Rolex or brand that has the distinction and looks of the Day-Date. Nice !
Like the size and design of the champagne dial but would only wear it for black tie events (ie once a year!) way to flashy for casual wear and also a muggers magnet.
These are Rolex Day-Date’s, the president is the name of the bracelet type. Maybe you mean President as the nickname used for these models in the States. They’re not called that outside of it.
I really enjoyed the comments you included in this video. You: "Everybody loves shiny things." Kennedy, "Just get rid of it." I really love the dial and date complication of the 18248, but I'm just not a fan of bracelets. On the other hand, I saw what you did there, 4:56 ~ So, if I ever own one of these watches, I'll change out its bracelet to that brown strap. Of course, I'd keep the presidential bracelet in the unlikely event that I'd ever sell it or for an heir, should they want to restore it.
Once I didn't like them. But they grew on me. I bought a 18238, gold faced, bar hour markers. I like it a lot, less flash than I thought and all the better for it. I usually wear a 40mm or 40mm+ watch, but it wears great at 36mm. I like it a little loose on the wrist, I don't like that normally. But this suits it and it fits well, it doesn't fall off around the outside of the wrist. I don't wear it all the time, it's not that kind of watch. But I'm very pleased with it, more so than I thought I would be. PS I'm not a Rolex fan boy at all.
A friend of mine has one with diamonds. He is a very wealthy Cleveland real estate developer and philanthropist. That Rolex model goes for $49,250 new.
If i was ever going to buy a Rolex it would be this one. Just one Rolex to rule them all.

Matt 👍👍😜😜
Audio needs a level up. Lapel mic with a ZOOM or on-cam Shure VP83 etc
There have been 3 sizes, 36,40, & 41mm. The 41mm or Day-Date II, stopped production several years ago. .There is no other Rolex or brand that has the distinction and looks of the Day-Date. Nice !
Beautiful but...It is the Daydate. The president is the bracelet only, honestly.
How heavy is the watch? If too heavy, it may not be suitable for everyday wear.
Perfect watch. But prefer the white gold ones. Another nice video, Mr. Baldassarre.
Classical Beauty 🔥
How much should i pay for one these days?
I just purchased a Rolex day date 41 mm yellow gold and I absolutely LOVE it !!!!!
Thanks for the video.... definitely going vintage 18238 / 118238
Great video! More of these up-close reviews please!!
Like the size and design of the champagne dial but would only wear it for black tie events (ie once a year!) way to flashy for casual wear and also a muggers magnet.
Great looking watch, love it! Nice video.
Day date is my favorite. Most practical for me.
These are Rolex Day-Date’s, the president is the name of the bracelet type. Maybe you mean President as the nickname used for these models in the States. They’re not called that outside of it.
Why are there some examples of 18238 with non lumed hands on lumed/tritium dials? Are they after market hands?
I really enjoyed the comments you included in this video. You: "Everybody loves shiny things."
Kennedy, "Just get rid of it."
I really love the dial and date complication of the 18248, but I'm just not a fan of bracelets. On the other hand, I saw what you did there, 4:56 ~ So, if I ever own one of these watches, I'll change out its bracelet to that brown strap. Of course, I'd keep the presidential bracelet in the unlikely event that I'd ever sell it or for an heir, should they want to restore it.
I love it. The white or chocolate dial would be a dream watch.
My favorite watch!
A friend of mine has one with diamonds. He is a very wealthy Cleveland real estate developer and philanthropist. That Rolex model goes for $49,250 new.
I love it !
Love it in White Gold.. Still comes with the heft but a little more subtle rather than yellow gold. If not WG, then the everrose is my backup.
I really don’t wear my 41mm presidential, they seem to come in and out of favor, but when they do pop their heads up the watch goes ballistic
I love the 36mm Day-Date with the black Onyx dial w/no sticks
