- Hi this is my 6 months old belgian malinois pup Max. Enjoy the video ;).
I've decided to put some information about Max:
Max is born on 5th of January 2014. so more than a year before the release of the movie about military working dog also named Max. So I named him before the movie.
I still did not watch that movie and I doubt I will.
Max real name is Max II or Max Jr., he is named in honor of my first belgian mal I adopted before and made me fall in love with this breed.
He is not neutered, despite this he does not flee and his obedience is exemplary for young male dog (he was raised with two also not spayed females).
His favorite toy is tug rope and favorite food is anything that he is permitted to eat.
He never trained with e-collar.
Main training method: toy play award, throwing and running
Additional methods: food treats and clicker

6 months old. that's incredible. we're just about to get a malinois cross and this gives me relief that a 6 month old could be handled. just need to put the time in.
my malinois is barely three months and is already well trained ☺ believe me , they learn fast ! 😉

Having one collie and one mal, i think their intelligence is the same, although the collie somewhat feels more into it, cant quite put my finger on it

They are a extremely workable family dog, you just need to ring around breeders and not go with breeders that orientate towards aggressive training, mine is 3 months and is doing all this expect roll over ( personal choice) if you get hold of a good experienced breeder they will be able to match a sire and dam, that suites the temperament you are looking for. Though they are a hyperactive breed regardless. FYI so cardboard boxes are rubber toys are great for when your out and about as fabric toys won't last long when they get here bite strength up :).

How is his obedience now? I see a few things that could use improving, but overall, hes a good lookin dog. Did he end up getting feathers on his rear legs like most mals?

we have a Groenendael - what a Dog, smart, loving very easy to train - so much so we will get another one
I have a question. I work night shift 12 hour shifts 3 days a week. We live in a home with a 4000 sq ft backyard maybe even bigger, its huge, perfect for a big dog. I guess my question is if my night time schedule would work with this breed. I've read plenty on their energy levels, and I would be able to spend 4 days a week with the dog. I also jog plenty so the dog wouldn't be deprived of exercise. With this night time schedule how would I need to approach this on the days I work? Do we kennle them, or leave them outside to explore? My Fiance works a regular 9-5 during the week. I also would be able to take them on a run right after work before I sleep prior to my next scheduled work day.

What commands i should teach my puppy first as i get him at 8 weeks old? And do you had any experience in dog training before you got Max? Would apreciate if you answer... 🙂
Sit is the first and the basic command to learn a puppy. After that you can learn your puppy to lay down. Small puppies are playful but quick learners so it shouldn't be a problem to learn them that few basic commands in a session or two. Yes I had some experience before Max. I always had a dog but first dog I trained was a rescued, traumatized and quite feral Malinois (also called Max) few years back. In fact Max in this video is named in honour of Malinois I had before. It was though but I managed to connect with him. Unfortunately he passed away in car accident.

1 hour minimum mandatory interaction is needed however he is part of my everyday life so in practice it is much more.

Even if the "pack leader" thing was true it wouldn't automatically teach them manners lol that's ridiculous
Hey so i recently adopted a malinois and I exercise her for about 2 hr+ everyday but I can't seem to hold her attention when I'm training new commands for her. She knows the basic sit, down, stay, loose lease but after 3 mins into learning a new command she just lies down and shows her belly lol. Got any tips?
Alright, I'll try that cause she's always trying to get some petting attention lol. And she's 2 yrs. I wish I was starting earlier
Keep sessions short and sweet like 2-3 minutes, only ask for the correct behavior 3-5 times and then move on. Less is more

Hey I'm a student, and I live in a studio apartment. Growing up, in the family we've had a German Shepard and 2 Dobermans, the Dobermans being my favorite. Things are getting crazy at school, do you think I could rescue a local malinois? What would you suggest for a daily routine, I think I can do what it takes to keep him or her stimulated
Yeah I was planning on rescuing a local pup, 8 months old, and yeah I might have to wait until I can give her the activity she needs every day

Max works without treats now. We started working with no treats shortly after we uploaded this video.
