I apologize for not having my usual cheerful disposition...
This song put a lot into perspective, and made me feel very somber about the state of the world at the moment. I appreciate so much what Sabaton did for us: finding moments of solidarity and brotherhood despite the violence and destruction that occurred in 1914. Sadly, this is still true in current day and is a reminder to love one another. I appreciate you all for recommending me this song. I am already a fan of Sabaton after listening to this. It really touched me in such a sad and beautiful way. Much love to you all!
❤❤❤
Aileen, I think you felt the way you did because anyone who sees humanity's potential knows that in the vast majority of cases, war is insufferable, and senseless.
Just look at Ukraine, and how they're now talking about the possibility of nuclear war -- something that was avoided during the Cold War. We never crossed that line. Yet, now, there is the talk that Putin could possibly launch nukes against NATO because of the war in Ukraine.
Yet, at the end of this video, the cross has etched and carved into it, "Lest We Forget." I believe this is a variation of, "Those who don't remember history, are condemned to repeat it."
It is why, for me, I say: Never forget. Never again.
You should not/never apologize for feeling what you feel.
@@Koekiej10 Yea! I was just about to say that. I agree fully. If the song puts you in a somber mood then that's the most honest reaction.
It shows that you are a person with feelings and not cold and inconsiderate. The lyrics of Null Positiv - Wo Rauch ist, ist auch Feuer goes in a similar direction.
Politicians start wars. Soldiers have to fight those wars. The guitar sounded like wails of anguish and pain. This is not just a Christmas song. In 2014, Sabaton began writing this song. They do not pick sides in the conflicts they put to music. They are factual and try to get it right. It took them 7 years before they were happy with the outcome, and I think Floor singing the outro was perfect.
"Wars are fought by men who don't know each other but kill each other and wanted by men who know each other but don't kill each other"
Pablo Neruda
☮️🇺🇦💪
They did, and it was a great complement to the more positive feeling moments of the song. And both of them need to be there. Since I mean, there's a reason we know about the truce despite all mention of it being officially suppressed: For a lot of soldiers, it was remembered far too fondly and powerfully for them to just forget about it.
One of the soldiers actually wrote in a letter home that he "wouldn't have missed the experience of yesterday for the most gorgeous Christmas dinner in England."
Considering most of the forces present were low on supplies (including food) and essentially existed in a constant state of wet misery, if even one of them said they wouldn't have left that hell to go home if it meant missing out on the truce that has to be a testament to just how special the whole experience must have been. He wrote that while still posted at the front, so it's not like it was a case of twenty-year hindsight while being interviewed in his own home. He was still out in the miserable hell that was the trench line in winter, freezing his ass off.
Randy you my thoughts exactly the way I was going to comment
@@flaviovergottini652 "There's nothing much I can tell you about this war. It's like all wars, I suppose. The undertakers are winning it. Oh, the politicians will talk a lot about the "glory" of it, and the old men 'll talk about the "need" of it-the soldiers, they just want to go home." - Charlie Anderson - Shenandoah (1965)
Countries fight by throwing sledgehammers of men and women at each other, uncaring of the damage inflict on each other or those who have to suffer the consequences
*Sabaton:* You know, after all this time, we're still missing something....
*Joakim:* What? What are we missing?
*Sabaton:* We need an operatic singer for the end of the song. But we don't know who to ask to do this...
*Hannes:* Let me phone my home. I might know an operatic singer who will sing for us...
to be fair, this isn't the first time they brought Floor in for a song... they also brought her in for- I think it was the future of warfare on the great war (though you have to get the right version, because they also did a version with Joakim)
Us: We want Floor.
Jannes: We have Floor at home.
Floor at home: FLOOR.
@@MercenaryPen They did have her come in for the future of warfare. You can't hear her too well in the mix unless you listen to the instrumental version.
Personally I love some of the live appearances she's done with them
@Alf Calzon there is some videos up on RUclips from when I think they did a show in Helsinki
Maybe Sabaton's most epic song. They worked on this literally for years before they got all the many elements just right. Epic reaction too!
The interesting part is the song he's playing on piano is "Carol of the Bells" aka the Ukrainian Bell Carol, and he plays it in a minor key so it sounds sad and mournful, then switches it to a major key to sound hopeful.
For more Sabaton, the "No Bullets Fly" animated story video, "Night Witches" animated story video, "Soldier of Heaven", and "Bismark", to start.
It’s not really carol of the bells. Similar progression but different notes.
Sadly, the last thing Ukrainians are hearing right now is any Bell Carol.
See there's a problem with Sabaton.
They're like a frozen lake. You start with 1 step (song), then you either decide to back off the ice or keep going. And if you keep going, there's no going back. Your falling in.
In WWII in the Black Forrest on Christmas Eve a short term cease fire between the 101st Airborne and the Nazis happened and together from across the battle field they sang Christmas songs together because in the end were all human. I spent 13 years in the military and although we fought an enemy we still showed respect.
You know the saddest thing I find about this song? If there had been no war and you had just grabbed these men from their homes and dropped them in some field in France or Belgium for Christmas 1914, they would have got along, they would have kicked balls around, cooked food at campfires, drunk anything they could find and generally had a good time even if they mostly could not understand each other. I think the same goes for any group of random men from anywhere on Earth. Instead they had the thought of returning to war very soon in their minds the whole time. Politicians start these wars, WW1 cost 15 to 20 million lives, half civilian. Those people who fought in the war did not need to be enemies.
Lest We Forget indeed.
Kinda over simplyfied tbh. WW1 was a confusing mess when it broke out. I presume you know what triggered it (The shots in Sarajevo), but all the build up is not only politics. Oppression, povertry and so on.
This is one of many Sabaton sung heroic poems, like medieval troubadour and Scandanavian skills. They honor a lot of warriors. The message should not empty you. It says that we are bright and strong, as well as Bestival and dark.
Powerful ( based on a true story ) Song by great band Sabaton....
When I first heard this song , it moved me so deeply , that when Floor started at the end , it was like punch in the gut ,... and I just cried , it was so beautiful end to that song !!!!
Nuff Said !!!!
It's not obvious whether you realised, but this song is about an event that actually happened. British and German troops spontaneously stopped fighting each other on Christmas Eve 1914. It only happened once. In December 1915, the British troops were told in no uncertain terms that anyone found fraternising with the enemy would be arrested and court-martialled. If a soldier was found guilty, the most likely outcome would have been the firing squad.
For more Sabaton, I'd recommend Night Witches (there's an animated video for this song that's super cool) or Uprising live in Warsaw (this song is about the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, and this performance in Warsaw was so special).
It happened also between Italians and Austrians on the Carso plateau
Some Britsh, German and French troops stopped fighting each other on the western front during Christmas eve*
@@nicolariva4982 Not in 1914.
Italy entered the war in 1915. My great grandfather was an Austrian officer.
@@WexMajor82 I know, I'm Italian! ;)
Events like that tell you all you really need to know about war...
And today we are Brothers, tonight we are Friends!
*ONE MOMENT OF PEACE IN A WAR THAT NEVER ENDS!*
Sabaton are quite possibly one of the greatest bands of all time. All their songs are based on true events from history.
For your next reaction, I'd recommend 'No Bullets Fly (animated story video)'m.ruclips.net/video/dslO-3GgenY/видео.html
Better then what I'd suggest in the final solution, because onions need cutting
@Lorenzo Smit perfectly acceptable reaction
I like "Bismarck". The videoclip is very well made and its also a really great song. Actually my favorite of Sabaton
Sabaton: We need someone doing the end credit!!
Hannes: Hold my beer....
His wife just Floored it.....!!
absolutely FLOORED
I think you meant Hannes said, "Let me hold my wife's beer."😄
Endcredits by Floor Jansen.
I immediately suspected it at the time. The confirmation came at the end of the credits.
At the end the beautiful voice of Floor Jansen🎶🎶🤟🏻🤟🏻
Christmas Truce is one of my favorite songs from Sabaton. I love this song because it is so powerful and it is very emotional. The history they put in their songs is so cool because I love history and learning about World War 1 and 2 ond other historical things.
Its also a event that really frames what Sabaton is trying to get across in there songs. War makes people do ugly shit, but even in the worst of times people have made the impossible possible and why we must never forget what heros of the past have done.
This hole event tears me up, for it is one event that gives me hope in humanity. its corny as it can be, but it dose not get more true.
Such a great song.
Sabaton is both historically enlightening, emotionally wrecking, and head-bangingly awesome all in one
Google the name of the song so as to get the story before going into it. The meaning is infinitely better than the melodious aspect. Mad respect to sabaton for making these tributes to better men than i
The sound is not really typical of Sabaton, they do have softer slower songs, but most of the time it's power metal. The themes however are always based on real events or people from war history, and they even have a separate channel with history lessons for many of their songs. This is not an exception, it actually took place during the first Christmas during WW1. This song is so emotional (and Floor Jansen at the end is just the final touch to tie it all together. Another reactor I saw mentioned that the chord progression of Carol of the bells are reversed from the classic Christmas Carol in the begining, that's why it feels a bit ominous and "wrong". Later during the short truce, they play the original. Many of the soldiers that took part of the real even this is based on had to be moved to different front lines since they apparently intentionally missed and refused to try and kill the people they drank, ate and sang Christmas carols with the day before. It's such a fascinating, surreal and and the same time hopeful events in history. The soldiers on both sides of the trenches just decided, with no official truce being called, for one day to stop the madness and experience some humanity, if only for a short time.
If you want another emotional song from them try the live version of En livstid i krig in Gothenburg (song is in Swedish but it has a translation in the subtitles.
This video makes me cry a bit every time. I recommend the animated story video for their song No Bullets Fly. It's fantastic
I really like your voice. It's so smooth and calming, goes perfect with the song.
Beautiful reaction. There are so many songs. My recommendation is though En livstid i krig (a lifetime at war) live in Gothenburg with English captions. It is about another war but so.. well it is impossible (for me at least) to think about what is going on in Europe right now. I am sure you will like it a lot 🇸🇪❤️🤘🏼
If you want more Sabaton, I would suggest "Bismarck:, "Unkillable Soldier", and "Seven Pillars of Wisdom"
Sabaton tells history through their music.
That cross at the end lest we forget still stands today I use the silence when Floor sings as a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers in the world War 1 during the Christmas truce they tried for a second Christmas truce on the Russian front but something happened where the Russian soldier was shot and killed this song was meant to do that this song showed the brutalness of wars even how brutal fighting in a war is a very great video of sabaton is Bismark
The Eastern front mishap for an easter truce failed because the Orthodox easter and the Protestant easter fell on different dates.
@@suntiger745 we are not talking about Ireland this was ww1 after the first truce a Russian soldier tried to achieve a second CHRISTMAS TRUCE but something happened where the Russian soldier got shot and killed
@@suntiger745 diary from a World War One soldier has come to light providing details of a Christmas Day truce in 1915. Pte Robert Keating's account explains how a ceasefire was held by some men despite orders from officers who did not want a repeat of a 1914 truce.Dec 26, 2015
@@tylerbuckley2092 Oh you were referring to december 1915?
I was referring to easter 1915.
After hearing about the xmas truce, the russian tenatively wanted to arrange a truce for easter on the eastern front.
But because the dates of easter fell on different dates in the different calendars, confused germans and austro-hungarians saw unarmed or demonstrable non-hostile russians come out of their defensive positions, and then they got shot or captured.
That there was another attempt at a cmas truce on the eastern front in 1915 was a surprise to me, since from what I knew the commanders there were just as adamant as those on the western front that they did not want a repeat of the truce from the previous year.
Sabaton have become my favorite story tellers, their songs are based on actual events that have happened. One of my favorites to Hell and Back.
Modern day Metal Bards.
The new album are all songs about WW1. They have some crazy videos and be shure to see to the very end. No bullets fly and make shure it is the animated STORY video. More emotions in that one 👌
yes that is a good follow up
I really enjoyed your reaction. Now that you are on the Sabaton Train, i suggest "No Bullets Fly" animated video and "Bismark" official video.
Oooof.. This song as your intro to Sabaton. I see you've chosen death by feels.
I hope you'll do more Sabaton, they have such an awesome list of songs. And if you really want to dive head first into the rabbit hole, they have the Sabaton History where they go into detail about the historical events behind the songs.
This event in history had everything line up perfectly in a way that could never happen again and in many cases started exactly as shown in the video. One started with a German Opera singer singing Stile Nacht as composed by Franz Grouber, and the Scottish bagpipes playing with him and they started singing together. It ended in exchanging gifts and a moment of peace to burry the dead and to honor their brothers.
Sabaton: We need a classical Singer for the End
Hannes: Mmh, i have one at home
You need to hear En Livstid i Krig (with subtitles), do the live version from The Great Tour in Gothenburg :) You'll really like it I think. Other than that I would suggest 40:1, or Uprising live from Woodstock in Poland in 2012. Great show!
They are even better in their native Swedish, in my opinion, so En Livstid i Krig is a really good choice.
Just in the first 5 months of the war up to the Truce, more than 350.000 French, 250.000 Germans, 20.000 British, 15.000 Belgians and 200.000 Russians were killed in battle.
Im not crying... nope.... nope..... awwwwww fuck.... im crying...
"Only the dead have seen the end of war." --Plato
This was the last desperate call of humanity to end this abominable war. RIP to all those who did not grow old...
There is no proof that Plato actually said that anywhere.
@@deptusmechanikus7362 Whether Plato is the originator of the phrase is academic and not the subject of this video.
Yeah this song chokes me up one of my favorite stories from any war ever as a kid I really latched onto it, this song meant so much to me the best Christmas present ever.
Full body chills when the piano starts and when Floor sings the outro.
Oh I can't wait! I really hope you venture deeper into Sabaton world. I already know this is gonna be awesome reaction since I've seen so many react to this song and everyone has loved the song and almost everyone got a bit teary eyes. Since you liked the rolled R's from Rammstein you will love Sabaton!
Best thing about Sabaton is that they make music of real war events of history so people won`t forget. Better than any history class. You should check sabaton history channel also. There they explain all of their songs. At live they are one of the most epic bands and music videos are always movie quality
This song, along with the superb video, is transcendent, for me it raises Sabaton onto a unique level. It, like most of their songs, reflects real historical events, and it does so with accuracy, emotion and thoughtfulness. By this point in WW1, Christmas 1914, hundreds of thousands had died or been maimed, huge armies were stalemated in terrible winter conditions and the realities of modern, industrialised war were just beginning to sink in, this is humanity at its lowest ebb, the selfish, violence our species is prone towards in stark detail. But for a few precious days soldiers on both sides of the trenches paused, an instant where basic compassion shone through and men on both sides took incredible risks to pause the fighting and reflect in shared companionship and brotherhood, this shows the best of humanity, the capacity to come together in the darkest of times and show compassion for our fellow beings, regardless of the hate and pain underlying everything. Then Sabaton demonstrates how humanity can rise to the highest level of artistic inspiration, capturing in composition a range of incredible emotions which transcend simple classification and become something truly memorable and beautiful.
Not only an epic metal song but that rare beast, an epic metal Christmas song. That was several orders above awesome !
Two of my personal favorite Sabaton. 82nd all the way - about Sgt York, Medal of Honor winner in WW1. Bismarck - about the German WW2 battleship sunk in the Battle of the Atlantic.

Pls react to Tommy Johansson Soldier of heaven (DISNEY VERSION) 🙂
But first a reaction to the original song.
i think what you feel is the feel of Christmas music same as sadness
I love Sabaton for bringing these to people who never new, this song was over 7 years in the making, they said they wanted to cover this when the band started. But were afraid that they could not do the event justice until now.
If someone wants to say these aren’t artists because it’s ‘metal’ then they have no clue what art is. This is much more art and craft than any five vapid pop songs you can mention.
based on a real incident in ww1 when on christmas day both sides put down t heir weapons and met in no mans land...sadly afterwards high command on both sides banned them from doing it again. and yes there was a football match.
DON'T LET THEM START WWIII. In spite of all the propaganda, don't let them do it.
Also, this one will not win the Grammy for best video. That tells you all you need to know about awards.
Don't apologize for real emotions. Every emotion is true, every time. And I just realized I look exactly the same like you (well, at least the facial expression :-D ). Beautifully sad is the best summary for this great song. Thank you for this reaction.
Hello, @AileenSenpai!
Christmas Truce...what a great introduction to Sabaton. It's not their typical sound, but so well done.
If you enjoyed them, I encourage you to look into Tommy Johannson here on RUclips. He's one of Sabaton's guitarists, and he's got quite the voice. Lately, I've been listening to his Gary Moore covers, but his "Disneyton" songs are fun, too.
Some Recommendations by Tommy:
-You Raise Me Up (One Octive Challenge)
-Swedish Pagans (Disneyton)
-Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore)
-Out In the Fields (Gary Moore)
To your point about metal not being just angry: I've never seen an artist smile as much as Tommy. He's a joy to watch.
Metal is for everyone!
Rock on, ma'am.
Edit: Correcting song titles.
Kudos for catching just who did the vocals at the end. Not every reactor recognizes her - let alone watches the credits.
With Sabaton, however, I strongly recommend to ALWAYS watch their music videos to the every end. They like hiding little easter-eggs in there.
Two recommendations from me: No Bullets Fly and Night Witches - the animated story videos specifically. Those were done in collaboration with yarnhub and provide a lot of additional context to the events behind these songs.
Apart from these, I recommend Bismarck, The Last Stand, Winged Hussars, Blood of Bannockburn, and Dreadnought.
The Bismark about the largest battleship of the kriegsmarine two ships were built the Bismark and the Tripitz both very large battle ships with very large guns

Till is a poet. "Zeit" is a masterpiece. Pure art. Their music video is really something. Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote that poetry was simply the best words in the best order. "Zeit" is pure poetry from the images, lyrics, facial expressions to the last note and breath. There is a lot of heart in this one, Aileen.
Oh wow, Zeit is a so powerful, sad beautiful Song. I love it
Every cinematic video needs end credits. Every single one.
One of the most epic and beautiful work of arts I have ever listened to and watched. Most Sabaton songs are based on actual military events. This song is about a miraculous event in WW1 where troops on Christmas Eve started singing Christmas carols to each other resulting in an unofficial truce and them meeting in no man's land to exchange presents, play football, and to share food. I really connect emotionally to this song, especially Floor's soaring vocals. This song really captures that brotherhood of arms that us veterans share with one another. That bittersweet feeling you get is the combination of the pride you feel for you and your comrades sacrifice on the behalf of others combined with the grief and sadness that comes with the loss of those closest to you in order to protect the innocent.
The best is at the end Floor 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks! Is so amazing to see young people enjoy and understand, not just music but other cultures tan their own. I hope to see more young people like you in this generation.
Wow thank you! 🙏🏼❤️
This epic song was filmed in my country in August 2021 🤗 btw Floor at the end sounds heavenly 😍🎩 greetings from Czech Republic 🇨🇿🙏
Keep one eye on the lights in the background. They're almost in time with the music.
First time I've come across your channel, thought it was a very thoughtful reaction, I've watched this video many times & still gives me goosebumps. As for Sabaton songs, there's so many but maybe 40/1 live, Bismarck, Attack of the Dead men live and To hell and back. All there songs are about historical events, battles, individual heroism etc. Each song is a history lesson....
It based on an true story at WW1. Its so sad. Thinking about my enemy, ist also an human too...
When I was in school, the ONLY class that ever brought up, or taught us about this event happening, was in Music Appreciation in 6th grade. Most of the schools in the country don't teach that subject, so I question whether or not most people learn about this event.
Floor's contribution is the 🍒 on top of a very special Christmas cake. 🤘
Another really beautiful and emotional video by Sabaton that I recommend you to react to is "En livstid I krig" live in Gothenburg. Plz remember to put caps on since it is in Swedish. I can guarantee that you will feel the emotion.

The Price Of A Mile is another brilliant track from these geniuses
btw, the cross they portrayed in the video is real and still there, on a field in France...
I would suggest from then Winged Hussars (Live - The Great Tour - Warsaw). They are an amazing live band and the best feel comes when they perform songs that are about the country they are in and Winged Hussars were from Poland. Also during these times in the world I know you're cautious like you should and do some research behind the songs you react to so that there's no unwanted praising towards certain invaders at the moment 🙂
Also the new album released early March is their most diverse album stylistically. While having the familiar sound for the band the songs vary from the "usual" Sabaton style wich is somewhat power metal(ish). For example the Christmas Truce is Waltz wich is kinda different from power metal 😅
Rise of evil and final solution are also much listens

Sabaton is an incredible band. They're my favorite metal band and they have a number of both somber and high energy songs. Some of their songs I would highly recommend listening to - as a reaction or on your own - are "No Bullets Fly", "Night Witches", "Resist and Bite", "40:1", "Screaming Eagles", "A Ghost In The Trenches". Some more somber songs of theirs that are more in line with this would be "Price Of A Mile", "Uprising", "The Final Solution", "A Lifetime of War", "Soldier of Heaven", "Great War", "Inmate 4859" and the "To Hell And Back" music video.
I'm sure you've already been told, but all their songs are about actual historical events, and they have a history channel, Sabaton History, that goes into the stories behind a lot of their songs.
This song is on every day. Since release to today. Such a good song. If they could stop the war if only for a day, why cant we do that today? Great reaction
Epic song, but not even close to one of their best (in my opinion of course). Check out Uprising, Screaming Eagles, Ghost Division, Night Witches, Cliffs of Gallipoli....ugh there are just so many great songs to list lol. Great band, welcome to the club \m/
The fact that you know about Transiberian Orchestra (this particular song really sounds like them) made your reaction more special, as well as (of course) all your emotional ride there.
And don't forget that Transiberian Orchestra was founded my members of metal band Savatage.
If you would have been cheerful during this reaction, i would have dismissed you.
This was genuine, and your emotion came through the screen.
Thank you!
Much Love to you and Ukraine 💙💛💙
That was Floor BTW
as with all Sabaton songs it is based on actual historical events, the best way to learn history listen to their songs and then go to their history channel and learn the story that the song was about
This kind of a thing really happened
Great Reaction, Sabaton is the best way to learn about history. also for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot. Sabaton has their very own "Sabaton History Channel" on youtube for this song ruclips.net/video/LJq64dF5ZfQ/видео.html also Paul McCarthy did a song on this topic "Pipe of Peace" (1983) - ruclips.net/video/TwyFTRGiIUU/видео.html
