      Because nobody has done a Robert mitchum impression for at least 30 year's, Apart from him vaugely looking like him and pulling off his facial mannerisms, he didn't impersonate his voice at all and Les Dennis sounded like Les Dennis in Every impression he did

    • @tombstoneharrystudios584
      @tombstoneharrystudios584 3 года назад +1

      @@alberttatlock5237 I think that was half the joke; Dustin knew he couldn’t do a good vocal of Mitchum and decided to embrace it as a punchline
      I’ve also noticed that everytime he did the look he always laughed hard after; I think that he had to stretch his face out after so much that when he was in the impression he couldn’t do anything but look like Moody Mitchum 😂

    I always remember what sad story it was that after working hard for years to be a success, Dustin Gee should die just as he had made it. I had forgotten though what a fantastic impressionist he was, many people can do voices, but he could change his looks to such an extent that it was hard to remember what he actually looked like,

    I cannot get all this Les Dennis bashing, a double act is exactly what is says on the tin (i know i have been in a few), For one to shine takes the chemistry of a partnership to bloom... They were both fantastic and had great love and affection for each other, you can feel it in the air when they perform together... I bet you Dustin loved working next to Les, its called teamwork, Les did his bit and set the bullets up for Dustin, and i actually think they were the best double act ever, only tragedy stopped them reaching fruition.... Dustin's Mitchum was the best impression in history... Fact.

    Further to some of the comments below - yes, this must be the episode where Tommy Cooper died. He was on shortly before Les and Dustin (possibly Howard Keel was on in between).
    According to Les, they were standing in the wings watching with Tommy's son when Tommy collapsed. A member of the production team asked Tommy Junior if this was part of the act, but he said his Dad had a chronic bad back and couldn't have sunk to the floor like that if he'd tried. At that point, the show frantically cut to a commercial break, and Les and Dustin assumed it would be cancelled. But to their horror, as paramedics worked on Tommy at the back of the stage, the commercial break ended and Les and Dustin were told to go on and do their act.
    Watching this with all that in mind puts a slightly different complexion on it all....

    Was this from 1984 'Live From Her Majestys' ...They'd had to cut to a commercial break and Jimmy Tarbuck had just filled in (for Tommy Cooper who had ,had a heart attack and passed away live on stage) before introducing this part of the show and they'd to go on knowing...that Tommy Cooper had died. Very sad....

    • @demon27dan
      @demon27dan 10 лет назад

      No, this isn't the night Tommy died at Her Majesty's. I have that unfortunate episode on an old VHS. Les and Dustin were indeed the next act on, and performed a similar routine to this one, but they did it in front of the safety tabs which were pulled down during the unplanned commercial break, leaving them with only two feet of stage to perform on. Jimmy introduces them after a minute or two of patter, then Les and Dustin come on, then Jimmy comes back on and throws a unplanned spot of a few minutes. There was then a planned commercial break, during which Tommy was taken from the stage. The show they returned for its final part, now with the main curtain able to be raised, starting again with Jimmy doing a few minutes of random gags before Howard Keel comes on and does a couple of numbers.

    Its no good looking back at the 80's with such nostalgia-Dennis was a bully in school and continues to be so. When I was 8 he set fire to my mums dog .
