    2:18 Chapter One, Gameplay Start
3:50 Oh hey, Mark Hadley, the creator of Slender: The Eight Pages. What could that mean?
4:11 There's the boys! The main cast and creators of Marble Hornets. (Also Librarian getting paranoid at some footsteps in the woods)
5:22 Oh cool, I'm not the only one who remembers that game.

8:55 Looks Like Alex Was Here
9:41 Well, both actually. In Marble Hornets, it was attracted to a single individual working on the student film, which eventually spread its attention to the rest of them. In EverymanHYBRID, the exercise group were pulling multiple fake Slenderman pranks, inadvertently summoning the real thing.

It's a pleasant surprise seeing you play this. I really do miss the Slender craze and the Slender Man character, it was a very cool concept back in the day and even still it is neat, but through a combination of overexposure, dwidnling popularity and real life incidents, I don't think Slender Man could ever truly return to their former glory. There's a lot you can do with this character, and I've had several ideas if I were to make my own movie adaptation (that movie was just disappointing, definitely the final straw)

The dev studio that made this, Blue Isle Studios, would use what they learned from this game and, three years later in 2016, make the far superior "Valley". Although it's not Slender and not exactly horror, you could classify it as diet horror. As you do have ways to defend yourself quite effectively. It relies largely on the story and atmosphere to be scary. There is... perhaps, maybe one jumpscare in the entire game and it's not a cheap one, either.
It's an extremely beautiful game with a decently good story and the movement is very fun. Imagine a... clunkier, prototype Titanfall, if you will, in regards to the movement.
You really should take a look at, Librarian. It's definitely right up your alley and I think you would love it.

There are many different interpretations of the Slenderman "lore", depending on where you look. Victor Surge, the original creator, left details somewhat threadbare when it came to the original images he posted on the Something Awful forums; leaving things up to the viewer to imagine. The majority of interpretations were based on these few details in the early days, until the release and success of the _Marble Hornets_ series. Technically, while _Marble Hornets'_ antagonizing entity "The Operator" was based on Slenderman, it was not a direct copy as it dropped some details while introducing new ones. Many other series would follow with their own interpretations, such as EverymanHYBRID or DarkHarvest00. _Slender: The Eight Pages_ , and subsequently _Slender: The Arrival_ , take inspiration more from these series than they do the original version of the Slenderman mythos.
Generally, the most common understanding of Slenderman is thus:
    * Slenderman is a supernatural or preternatural entity with the ability to appear or disappear at will with seemingly few restrictions, if any.
    * Slenderman seemingly has the ability to control who can and cannot perceive his presence. Sometimes this is depicted as most adults being unaware of his existence as he stalks their children, other times it's people forgetting he's there after witnessing him (selective amnesia).
    * Slenderman is occasionally depicted as being able to sprout tentacles or spidery legs from his back and control them at will.
    * Slenderman has some sort of attachment to the woods, and will usually be found there.
    * Slenderman is often, but not always, depicted as having some level of influence or control over his victims. This control sometimes manifests as "proxies", people who have fallen under his influence and attempt to assist Slenderman in carrying out his objectives. Other times, it's the ability to subtly influence children in order to draw them closer and leave them vulnerable.
    * Slenderman will stalk his victims for days, weeks, months, or sometimes even years before acting upon them, with or without the victim noticing his presence (the latter few being far more common in latter tales).
    * Slenderman appears to have an affect on the world around him. Electronic recording equipment are commonly show to malfunction in his presence, and people exposed to him sometimes report headaches, paranoia, insomnia, various forms of amnesia, false memories, occasionally hacking coughs and the spitting up of blood. This is sometimes implied or stated to be a form of "radiation" he emanates.
    * What Slenderman actually is, or what his true motives are, are vague at best or a complete unknown at worse. It's usually implied that he wishes violence on people, but the form of this violence or purpose for it changes from source to source. It was more common to directly imply or even state that he kills people (mainly children) early on in the formation of his mythos, but that direction has changed over the years to be more complex and nuanced.

One great thing about Slenderman is that he had no single entity who could decide what the lore was. He technically had a rights holder, but functionally, it was like how it was before modern copyright law. Everyone told their own, overlapping stories. Some were meant to share a universe, some just shared themes. Slenderman is less of something you can wikify, and more a tag cloud of possible powers and behaviors. If you want more lore to fill out what you saw in the game, several versions are available.

  • @JustDiptych

If you see someone that looks like Slender Man but is a bit bulkier, that's his cousin, Portly Gent. He had his own game - PORTLY - where you had to find eight pages around a municipal baths. The pages were all receipts for English mustard, carbolic soap and spermicidal jelly. Somehow, through every window in the building, you could see a parked Oxford Farina. And, if you took too long, Portly Gent would jumpscare you and offer you a gasper and a sardine sandwich.

    • @JustDiptych
      @JustDiptych Год назад +4

Portly Gent sightings (mostly from teens messing about in the woods) suggest that his approach was heralded by radios beginning to play 'Pretty Polly Perkins of Paddington Green'. One teen (who was messing about in the woods) said that 'his hands just grew longer and longer... but somehow, he kept on smoking that gasper.' Others reported that, the morning after a Portly Gent visitation, all their snuffboxes were mysteriously emptied, and their heirloom tomatoes were unusually plump and juicy.

The game in general changed so much since it released you can describe it as a glowup
In the original release the way you interacted with doors was a lot more jankier, you had to click on them and then drag the mouse to either open them or close them
The extra areas like the backyard of Kate's house which leads to the park didn't existed either, once you left her house Chapter 2 would start in the park already, same as the CR investigating the farm tape, that was later added on a future update.
And the graphics used to look a lot worse too since after all it's a 10 year old indie game, but after a couple of updates they made it look so beautiful
Loved it when it first came out, still love it to this day and I'm happy you got the chance of playing it, hope you come back to it since you missed quite a few things!!!

For clarification, yes that was Kate in the hoodie at the end. The emaciated boy in the basement that chases CR is Charlie, and the body beside the fire with all the words around him is CR, who burnt himself and tried to get Kate to do the same. The voice saying "I can't do it" from the camera is her. There's more story in the secret level.

Hey m8 I just to say thanks for playing this and bringing back some spooky memories. There was this grace period for Slender Man where it had just left the Something Awful forums and the content for it was great. I think what made the horror of Slender Man so great in the beginning was that powerless feeling that the stories told, the same kind of powerlessness that UFO and Alien abduction stories have: There is this being that intends to do you harm, you know it's out there, but there's nothing you can do stop what may come. In particular I loved the whole "You noticed it, now it's noticed you." trope.
I'd also like to give a shoutout to the Morley Grove series; it's a pretty new Slender Man series but it captures that same apprehension and dread feeling I had all those years ago when I first discovered those Slender Man creepypastas.

Such a pleasant surprise indeed! This game was one of the first horrors that I encountered and was probably the most scary one. Coming to your missing friend's house and seeing all this mess in her home and then finding out that these's some weird creature lurking around who is responsible for her disappearance. Just the atmosphere of walking around the house in a complete dark, knowing that it was abandoned in a hurry and knowing that the owner was stalked by something and now you are it's target - I still remember the feeling of total vulnerability. This small game really hits all the right buttons and I think it's perfect for your channel. Thank you for playing it!

So, Slenderman Lore is often more tied to the individual project than the entity himself, but generally it’ll go something like this: an early life event will involve seeing/interacting with/being traumatized by either Slendy or one of his Proxies (I’ll explain that soon) and then during young adulthood they will start seeing him and being haunted by him.
Whether or not Slendy is antagonistic or just a force in the world changes, but usually if he’s around two things happen: electronics freak out (either not working entirely or getting glitches, especially on playback of video), and people start to be effected. Being effected can range from more hallucinations to showing signs of physical illness (such as the tell-tale cough in Marble Hornets). People effected by Slendy then either slowly die, or become proxies.
Again, depending on Slendy’s role in the series, proxies can either be actively controlled pawns of Slenderman, or they might just be messed up and more hostile versions of who they normally are. Proxies either try to expose more people to Slendy, try to kill those already exposed/infected, or just do rampant killings in the area, becoming spin-off entities of sorts.
Something I forgot to add: locations
Often in any given Slendy related project, there will be locations (a park, an old building, just some plot of land) that are intrinsically tied to Slendy or the other entities. People who are there will be more heavily affected, and often people who are already affected/infected will be drawn to the place. Can sometimes be the location of the initial encounter, sometimes is a place the characters are drawn to for the first time.
