There is a Facebook group for those wanting to be involved. Hampshire & IOW Speak their name suicide memorial quilt.
The Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt for Hampshire & IOW inspired by Greater Manchester in 2020 and Yorkshire in 2023.
The memorial quilt is made up of 36 unique squares in each panel, each one created by someone bereaved by suicide.
There are 2 panels that will be unveiled at “Let’s get talking about suicide” in Victoria Park in Portsmouth on Saturday 7th September at 10.30am
There are few workshops where we invited people to come along to create a material square to honour their loved ones. Help was on hand, but the idea was that the work be completed by the person bereaved.
Organisers have spoken at length to Anna and Roger Scott who were both heavily involved in the Yorkshire project and tour and were able to use their ideas, designs, and promotional material. This has been an incredible help and we have had the benefit of learning from their experiences!
