FYI I have worked in the Auto industry in BC Canada for 30 years and never seen that style line that was installed without the safety clip. The plastic clip is very important as the metal clip is prone to getting stretched out of spec which could allow the line to disconnect under transmission line pressure. The safety clip will not fit over the metal clip if it is bent enough to not hold the line, the line can not disconnect from the metal clip if the safety clip is sitting properly against the fitting. Good presentation .

Always use the safety clip. I had a snap ring fail even through you could hear and see it clip in. Not fun with fluid all over the ground and a transmission that wouldn't shift or engage out several miles from town.

Hey brotha got a tech question hope you can steer me in the right direction. Got a 15 ram 1500 hemi 8spd , had to replace the lines" 52014804AI " my question is on the transmission heater the 2 holes for the lines which is which ? Does the farthest hole on the heater does that line connect to the top or bottom line at the radiator?
I can't find a clear diagram and not sure if I mixed them up. Basically which line is supply and return at both connection points, radiator and transmission heater. Any help would be amazing. Love your videos.

I just replaced the radiator in my 05 Silverado yesterday and had a run in with those damn clips. What should have been a 45 minute job or less took me over 3 hours because of them. I cussed more than I did when I was in the Marine Corps. I literally wanted to break the lines and throw a damn fit! I knew about using picks but I didn’t have any. Had no clue about the special collet tool.

Finally, Finally, Finally, somebody reveals the mystery, of the "Mystery Clip", the one that's Clipping the public with it's mystery. This is the only video I've found that shows up close what this and how to work it off/on.
When something like this comes along and so many people won't explain it and there are no instructions on it's box, the reason for it is to Clip the Public for $$$$$. If nothing else then it's good for the transmission specialist when it leaks out all your transmission fluid on a freeway which also is a shot in the arm for the wrecker business.
    Thanks so much ! ! !

Deleted and replaced with flex line and not clips . Used 2 hose clamps and flex hose . Ran that to the Drivers door floor underneath the jeep. and Installed a External cooling unit with a 12 v dc fan. Ran to output to the Radiator and then back to the trans again replacing the quick disconnect with a Flex house fitting . Now the jeep Runs 15 degrees cooler and no hard lines to crush. I hate Chrysler for these.

  • @carpediem4413
    @carpediem4413 Год назад

Just did this on a 2011 JL Wrangler to replace rusted/leaking lines with new ones. Couple things I learned:
    1) Old rusted lines at press in fittings don’t allow a quick disconnect tool to work (had to use two picks).
    2) To get clips out manually, had to soak clips/fittings in PB blaster and work them to loosen the clips.
    3) Scraped out the fitting edges for a while around the line press fit to get rust out and PB blasted again.
    4) used one pick to press between line & clip bump out to push it outward so I could hook clip from outside with other pick. Longhandled needle nose pliers are a must for grabbing clips, etc on this job.
Here’s where it got even harder…😢
    5) after clip removal Fittings at radiator were rusted in place and would NOT come out… Kept at them with PB blaster and grabbing metal line with Longnose pliers and cranking back and forth to eventually pull the lines free. Was tough and took at least 10 mins of wiggling forcefully while pressing outward on the line… PITA. I heard some people recommend cutting lines and using a deep so it to remove fitting body… my fitting body just spun near radiator as it seems like a compression fit at radiator tube… I didn’t want to mess it up so left it… spinning that fitting nut without cutting lines might help to break the rust free from the stuck line … but I just kept using the long handle needle nose and wiggling and pressing til it eventually popped out. Removing lines at trans much easier.
    6) Had to do some slight bending of the new lines to get them in correct shape and fit so they didn’t rub on anything or each other and didn’t have odd angles or tension when fitting them into the clip fittings… you want the line end to push straight in and pop in all the way so the clips can be installed and hold get in front of the line end flanges so the lines wont pull out. Test pull these after you get the clips reinstalled.
    7) Reinstalling E clips .. you put clips in place first, put a little grease around line flange area.. then push lines in so the pop all the way in and won’t pull back out. make sure the lines were fully seated so the clips got in front of the line flanges to hold them in…
    8) Test pull on line and make sure clips are fully seated into fitting as evidence by clips being full down into the channel and not protruding (needle nose to make pure they are pressed down fully.. if not the line flange may not be all the way pressed in - must press in straight which might require a slight line bending).
    10) once all closed in a pull tested, start engine and check for leaks.
    11) no leaks push plastic cover back over clip fittings (might need to use a bent nose long handled needle nose pliers as I had to put tip on either side of plastic cover and give it a hammer bump to get covers to seat fully. These are important as they hold the clips in place (you don’t want a cooler line popping off on the road).
    12) Install line plastic retaining guides so lines don’t rub on anything or each other, hit anything or press against any other parts.
    13) replace the amount of fluid you caught in pan when you pulled lines.

This was a huge help! Worked right away. The new radiator already has the C clips and O-rings installed, so I didn't have to transfer them, which was nice. But I'll probably grab them off the old radiator. Thanks for the super helpful video. Also saw your PT Cruiser timing belt and water pump replacement video and decided that it was way too involved for my skill set or available space, single car monthly rental garage. Just gonna leave that to the expert, but doing my own radiator and getting the transmission oil lines off was what was holding me up on another car I was working on.

I probably watched 20 videos before yours just looking for a better explanation. To be frank, I wish I had just known about the tools. Seems like they should be cheap. Great video , such a simple clip but SO important to understand and make sure it holds the pipe in place. All the details are so correct, don’t want any dirt getting etc, imagine have one pop out, there goes a transmission.

Really well done video. Thanks! I’m looking for the pressure line for my 2000 Jeep 2.5L with auto trans. I got the return line but the other line is unavailable. 😩

Hey guys, I actually tie a length of dental floss around the clip before I re-install .There are many times that these are tough to get at and I end up dropping the clip a couple times..with the length of dental floss on it you wont lose it.Once it is on I just trim it off, it isn't thick enough to interfere with anything, I've been doing this for years now

I read all of the comments before I started this job today... As I was reinstalling the spring clip on the new pressure line, I kept thinking... "I should use the floss trick, just in case", but I was too lazy to go to the house.
...dropped the clip and lost 20 mins searching for it🤦‍♀️
... "now I should get the floss..." dropped it again, this time only in the drip pan luckily!
Great tip! Would have saved me time🙄 thanks! 😄

The one you got is exactly like GM uses I'm looking for the one with the plastic ears sticking out of it I think I just squeeze and pull but I'm not sure I just wanted to make sure before I started yanking on it.

I use pop cans cut into a square roll it over the line thats pre lubed with spray luvericant and twist n push into fitting wala!

  • @careylee5951
    @careylee5951 4 года назад +5

There is a small o-ring inside the fitting that should be changed or you run the risk of the cooler line leaking.Choice is yours, just know that if it leaks now you have to take it apart again.

Awesome vid. I was looking at one of the Mopar special tool websites and I noticed that tool was $70 or so. Glad there's an alternate (and simple) way to remove the lines.

  • @pjmckee1

Thank you for the video! I have a cooler line that is dangerously close to rusting through so I bought replacements that have sat around collecting dust. I checked with some of those "master disconnect kits" and noone could confirm they had the correct tool anyway. The official mopar tool is somewhat hard to find and ridiculously expensive for what it is ($75-100+) If you don't have a pick set you buy some for a few bucks at harbor freight (I use mine all the time for removing o-rings during oil changes) Anyway, thanks again maybe now I'll finally get this job done!
