Caster shims.. Need positive caster angle to between 2 degree and 4 degree positive. A Carli track bar helps as well but the main issue is caster angle being 0 or negative.
@@StayFreeRelax- that's awesome! I'm impressed with the people who've responded to this video like you who are savvy mechanics and made this repair on their own. @@blazingnewtrailz Greetings from Lake Saint Louis! Caster shims will stop the wobble , but you still need to check the steering components every spring before you set out with the trailer. I bought an F250 2 weeks ago and immediately installed caster shims. Only 80 miles at this time.
Great job on this - very informative! We have a 21 f250 and i have heard these do still get the death wobble though so far with 47k miles we have not experienced it. Looks like you found a good place to take care of it - thanks for sharing this :)
Hi Bob! Glad to hear it hasn't been a problem thus far. But Ford should have taken care of it long ago since they've known about the issue for some time. Summit did a great job, but time will tell. We head out at the end of May on a six week trip to Glacier, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Banff. So - that will be another good test. Thanks for watching and following up. Let us know how it goes and if you have a problem, don't wait and be sure to find someone qualified to make the repair. Take care! 😀
Thanks Stan & Rhonda! Much appreciated. It's reported that the Death Wobble is mainly found in models produced from 2005 to 2019. I'm not aware of the more recent years, however, there have been reports of the issue being found in trucks manufactured as recently as 2021. There's no excuse for Ford to continue ignoring this problem. They need to take a leadership position to correct the problem before there's an accident and people are either hurt or lose their lives.
@@OverTheHillAdventures- yes! Especially the first time it happened. Linda and I just looked at each other afterwards because we had no idea what had happened. We really do love our Ford and have had no other problems except for the Death Wobble.
@@blazingnewtrailz it’s unbelievable that Ford does not take responsibility! Especially when you have video evidence. That’s why I think this video is so important.
@@OverTheHillAdventures- I'm not sure why the Death Wobble issue didn't come up in my research, but we do love our truck despite the problem. And...we couldn't be happier that it's now fixed! 🤗😁
This reminded me of a nephew who has been a heavy duty mechanic for numerous years and in the last years has been working for a Cat dealer in selling the service providing department ( service sales .. I've forgotten the title ), but anyway he drives a company truck which is I think a 2018 F 250 crew cab short box gas engine. It has been a struggle from very low miles ( km actually, this is in Canada ) with experiencing the death wobble and there were times he thought this is it ..... . Well Ford pisses around and replaces a steering shock, never addressing the issue of worn steering parts as they claim they are still in spec. However they have had to change out the front wheel bearing ( unit hubs ) at 30000 miles and again at 60000 miles, somehow its trashing the bearings if you can imagine. They never will change the caster angle as again they claim its in spec. Not sure how many steering shocks is gone through but a few. That Cat dealer has a few company pickups of the same vintage and some are doing just like his with this mess while the odd one has somehow escaped the dreaded death wobble or last I had talked with him on the topic. Trucks with solid front axles, Jeeps etc are all prone to this if they have loose steering components and don't have enough caster set into the wheel ends. All I can think is that Ford set such a fine tolerance on the caster angle to help with steering wheel effort while manoeuvring at slower speeds, I don't know that for a fact but that is a side effect of a high caster angle is increased steering effort as it wants to force the steering wheel back to center when rounding a sharp turn. How Ford could have let this go on for the number of years they have, that is beyond comprehension.
Hi! It's great to hear from you! This was a surprise to us and a huge shock when it first occurred. Be safe out there and have your suspension checked right away if it should happen. Take care! 😀
Happened to me 3 times on one trip home. Ford didn’t have parts to fix so I went to a local suspension shop and problem solved. There is a Ford recall on this. I took my recall form to Ford for reimbursement, they will reimburse me what I paid but want remove my upgraded parts and install OEM parts.
@bruced9053 - hi Bruce! We were never notified about the recall. I'm glad you had the repair done and can now enjoy some peace of mind. We've driven almost 15k miles since the repair and have yet to experience the dreaded Death Wobble. We're so happy to put this behind us! We appreciate you commenting! 🤗
Thanks Gary! Ford should do the right thing and offer to make the repair so lives are not at risk. We appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best! 😀
@hd114ul7 - I'm impressed! This is my first, and we started having problems at 20k miles. But the work we had done corrected the problem, and there hasn't been an issue after 12k miles. Take care! 😃
Been driving ford trucks my entire life and never had it. My brother had a 07 powerstroke with 200,000 miles all original suspension and never had it either. Matter of fact suspension is the only thing he didnt have a problem with lol. 6.0 cost him enough money to buy another truck. Seems to be very rare in the real world makes me wonder if there aint some out of spec parts on some of these trucks.
It certainly makes you wonder when some people have the problem and others don't. Ford's quality control is inconsistent and/or they need to improve the design. You and your brother been extremely fortunate and I hope that good luck continues for you. Take care and thanks for commenting!
Very sorry to hear that! It has been over 5k miles without a problem since our fix, and we couldn't be happier. Be careful and make sure you find a reputable shop to make the repair. It's too dangerous, especially if you're driving at a high speed. Be safe! 😀
Hi Gary! It's not an inexpensive fix. We paid around $3k, but that also includes the diagnostic test and alignment. Also keep in mind this was Arizona and repair shops will charge different rates. While Ford should have stepped up and taken ownership of the problem, we're not going to put our safety in jeopardy. We still love our F250 truck, but POed with Ford management. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😀

Noticed 2024 have a single stabilizer shock installed. That’s what mine has installed aftermarket and haven’t had any problems. I’ve heard the dual shock is better
That's a very smart decision on your part to install the stabilizer shock! But this move by Ford is also telling in that they made the upgrade on the 2024 model, especially after the problem has been around for so long. They're okay with designing it into the new model year when they can budget for it, but won't doing anything about prior models. Their decisions are all about the bottom line and come at the customer's expense. All the best and thanks for your comment! 😀
