We hiked on Friday, June 21st, 2024. First off, the WTA did a fantastic job fixing what was once the worst forest road I've ever encountered. Previously, you had to drive under 10 miles an hour to navigate through the potholes. Now, they've been filled with concrete or gravel. The trail has also been updated.
Secondly, there is still snow on the trail from 1.4 miles onward. With the current heat wave, several dangerous snow bridges have formed. To help navigate through the slush and snow bridges, I recommend using poles with baskets and starting early to avoid the mid-afternoon heat that turns the ice to slush.
Lastly, the mosquitoes are out in force, so I would suggest bringing DEET.
One more side note: on the forest road to the trailhead, you'll encounter one junction-stay left.
