  • I hiked to 3 finger lookout solo via the Mt Meadows route in October 2023. It was a 27 mile round trip hike with 6,800 ft of gain. Come along for the ride!

Thanks RUclips for recommending this. I have to comment to counter all these negative comments. I hiked up here in the early 90's when the road was still open to the trailhead. I was amazed at the beautiful drone footage and thoroughly enjoyed it. As far as "exposing" the name of this "secret" place, c'mon, this is NOT a secret! It's been featured in my earliest hiking guides from the 1960's. It's been featured in COUNTLESS online posts and pre-internet magazine articles. And it's not easy to get to which filters out casual crowds. Did you get that the road is washed-out to the trailhead? The washout is eight miles before the trail even starts. It was a hard all-day hike when I did it, when we could drive to the trailhead. And this historical structure doesn't maintain itself. It requires volunteer efforts that need funding. How can it get continued funding without some public support? Thanks to heydchang for giving me some enjoyment during my morning workout. I hope to return here sometime.

Nothing more selfish than a drone in designated wilderness.

Just wanted to follow up and say I did read the national park website about drones and it does state that it is prohibited but when I followed the link the rules were fairly unclear rules or not Im stoked for the vid because even as an avid backpacker I’ll never make it up there so fuck the rules thanks!

@@gnarmarmountsI’m standing with DaveMorrow this hole video is selfish. 1. He is telling everyone where it’s at so people can come storm it that’s the problem with everything now day everything’s crowded and some people go to the woods to get away from it and it doesn’t help when people like this guy are telling everybody where the spots are when other people are doing hard research to find these places. 2. Also the common know rules are who at the fire look out first stays at the fire look out for the night. It suck when it’s crowded and you take the hard hike up there just to not be able to stay up there. 3. And well I watched the video I didn’t notice any large amount of trash I 100 percent guarantee that if and when it does get popular it will most likely be trashed. 4 the reason you commented. Drone!!! They aren’t fair to anybody because if they were to fall because they lost control or contact to the controller then it would be a peace if trash in the woods that shouldn’t be there. Also when you go to the wood it’s to get away and to leave technology behind and to have peace of mind and clear your head and if someone or a animals for this matter it could potentially ruin the reasons they came out there or even scare animal the guides don’t tell you all of this because it common sense but I guess you ain’t got any. Not to be mean thanks!! 😁

The forest is beautiful. I disliked this video because you’re complaining way too much. Why go???

Nobody is trying to encourage anyone to go. If you're into this kind of Type 2 fun, you'll want to go regardless. It is sketchy up there so anybody considering it should be prepared for what they're in for.

Hiking through the forest is boring? Damn man I'm surprised you didn't complain about no wifi in the cabin.

I love to hike but also find that hiking for many miles through the dark forest can be somewhat boring while you're heading toward the awesome views. I didn't have any problem with him saying so. Personally I started bringing a Bluetooth headset to listen to pre-downloaded podcasts and audiobooks to help the miles go faster. I just did a 21-mile day hike a few days ago which was about 80% viewless forest so it helped immensely.

Just remember man, if this post gets popular it might get overrun with people, consider the possibility it might be better off as a local secret to keep it open, available, and unbroken. Cheers!
