+BowGunner Yeah, I'm a little baffled as to why he basically shows you how to clean up the existing install. Maybe this was aimed at people who are complete noobs who would find a complete OS install daunting. Actually, what baffles me is why I'm even watching this. I already know what to do. For some reason when I get bored I end up watching how to videos for things I already know how to do lol.
guyver2095 she didn't choose the laptop, i did. Windows 8 is like the new Windows Vista and Windows 10 will probably be like Windows 7. --- You've probably never even given win8 a shot.
Jonaz lol yeah windows 8 is alright....not even that bad. just ew and different. but yeah windows 10 will probably be better. but damn os x is for me though. simple clean and sexy looking. works perfectly fine for me
Jonaz I use win 8 sometimes, but I found it Horrible, and childish every time. I guess some people like it because they identify themselves with those characteristics
guyver2095 I like both windows 8 and 7, but i do like 7 over 8 and it's not because of the "new" metro. It's because of all the errors in 8 that still to this day has not been properly fixed, like the windows update that don't do shit and installing new metro apps that never begin downloading.
With all these Linux arguments I have devised a chart to explain who should pick which OS you should choose: Linux Based: tinkerer Windows: Gamer/business MAC OS: the technologically retarted But if your a tinkering gamer... well playonlinux is pretty good.
***** I am open minded so long as whatever it is actually based on facts, macs (for the money) are NOT worth it, unless you are bad with tech, in which case it is easy to navigate and is intuitive. my first computer was a mac and it was great until I wanted to use it for anything other than Web browsing and Ms word. other than that Windows is the best all around os and most Linux distros are my favorite options, however I use Windows due to the nearly universal compatibility of the NT kernel.
This is such a disgrace. A brand new computer should never require cleaning. Imagine buying a brand new car and having to vacuum the inside and change the oil just as you drive out the car dealer.
It actually should. Unlike cars, these computer tend to have unwanted software that the builder put in to advertise some product. Even if you uninstall it, some of the unwanted file will stay in your computer or hard drive. That's when cleaner come in handy.
Linux is trash. If I wanted Linux, why wouldn't I buy a Linux computer in the first place? No, I want Windows, I'm not gonna throw out an OS that I paid for.
Because there are few computers out there that comes with a linux distibution pre-installed. Better off getting a laptop that comes with a installation disc of Windows, this way you can play around with your computer a lot more. If you'd ever want to go back without much trouble.
HoRzeNTarI today you can download everything from all the web sites, torrent trackers etc and install all if you want and again... for free :D but you have to decide if you want to use cracks and all the mumbo jumbo or pay :)
Just what I needed to see. I ordered a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 15.6" Notebook Computer, Intel Dual-Core i5-3230M 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and I have been trying to figure out the best way to get rid of all the junk... I'm sure if I fallow your tutorial I will have a smooth running Machine.. I'm glad I got a machine with windows 7. I might want to go look at your other tutorials to make sure i don't miss nothing.. thumbs up. I subbed..Oh I already am...lol
Eden Allen it is recommended not to do that as it can cause the computer to malfunction or not work properly since it changes the that system file as well as the directory of that file. im not saying dont but take a huge think about it before changing any part of the O/S, even if its just changing to the the way it performs or look as it can do some harm to the O/S possibly causing you to re-image or re-format the computer. Just think about it before even considering doing it and take note of the risks that come with it
***** , infact yes it can since your not only changing the user interface, but the files that go along with it. i think i know what im talking about since im studying I.T.
"I tell the computer what to do, you don't tell me what to do" That line perfectly describes the difference between IT people and the rest of the world.
first thing I do is to install antivirus app to keep my pc safe. Next i install my favorite FolderChanger app to manage my documents easily. You can find it when you google "FolderChanger"
+Elfenliedd Old comment now but whatever. I recommend looking up videos on privacy settings to look over when using Win10. Things might have changed since I went back to Win7 about 2 weeks after trying out Win10 about a year ago but there were all kinds of annoying crap where the computer would send various data to Microsoft unless you thourougly went through all settings related to privacy.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't see the need for pre loaded hardware or software. It's just a matter of finding what you don't need. Thanks for the guide, this opened up my eyes way more than before.
I bought an ibuypower cz-15. It had nothing for decrapifier to find. But the startisback is incredible. I highly suggest that to anyone trying to adjust. Don't do it just pay a couple of bucks, and save yourself the hassle. Awesome thank you for the tuber man.
first thing you should do? Sell it, or either fire it into outer space, you may think this would be pointless or too expensive?, just turn it on run something like battlefield 4 and then set it outside on your drive, with battlefield 4 running. Give it 2-3minutes and the amount of heat generated from the CPU/ heat-sink/ fan, will make the heatsink fan turn momentarily into a pulse rocket, propelling the laptop to orbit within 100th's of a second. and then...buy a desktop. you wont have to bolt your laptop down then. Imagine if you overclocked the laptop :0, id think it would reach the sun with the amount of heat generated with those things. Lol, but seriously laptops are for everyday use. Want to play games buy a desktop far more superior.
When you buy a computer with Windows these should be the first steps you do: 1-Uninstall Windows. 2-Install any Linux distribution. Ubuntu is fine. 3-??? 4-Profit.
When you buy a computer with Windows these should be the first steps you do: 1-Uninstall Windows. 2-Install any Linux distribution. Ubuntu is fine. 3-??? 4-Profit. 5-No gaming 6-Reinstall Windows and steam
Sèna Gangbè In the first place there is Steam in Linux. In the second place, I don't give a fuck about losing my time with a bunch of clonic FPS and the uninspiring indies that make up 80 % of the catalog anyway.
*More New PC Tips:* Steam is essentially portable and can be installed along side other installations. Heck, you can run steam from a thumb drive. When using ninite. Check *ALL* the Runtime boxes. You will need them all anyhow. If you want to keep your PC clean. Use Portable Apps. Most of the apps he just installed have portable versions. I recommend LibrerKey for those new to portable apps. Best part is, you can put your apps on a thumb drive and run them on other computers.
Most useful video I've watched in ages, just got a windows 8.1 notebook and getting a proper strat button again has taken away a lot of the frustrations I've been having with it.
First thing to do? Install Manjaro Linux, using the whole drive. Gets rid of all the crappola and you'll end up with a super clean und super duper OS. All done :)
The only thing windows has over Linux is gaming. Linux has everything else over both windows and Mac. Windows DOS was copied from the Unix bash shell and Mac is just a distro of Linux. Thus Linux is the the big daddy of all computers. As an ex-Windows lover, a coder and a pc builder I can tell you from my experience Linux is amazing. (PS, both ios and android are both distros of linux as well ;)
***** Huh? Under Linux my machine is more useful than ever before and doesn't need any TLC. What kind of super special software are you using that can't be reeplaced by an open source version?
***** Not entirely true, Zakary. Now that Valve have ported the steam engine to Linux and even made their Steam OS a Debian derivative, Linux is like totally taking over the gaming sector as well. Also MacOS is a mutant of BSD ... which is a mutant of Linux as well, okay. Best comment about Linux I just heard from Chris at the Linux Action Show: "ppl don't use OSes, pppl use applications. It doesn't matter on what OS their fave app is running on. In a couple years Linux will power our universe and most ppl won't even know it."
IE is now awesome (faster than Chrome and it blocks 99.9% of malware). The Start is excellent if you know how to use it and not be a jerk about a little change. Don't use Bing ? Change it to Google and let them collect private info about you. AVG ? LOL. CCleaner is not needed at least for a new PC. DAFUQ is StartIsBack ??? Ok, downgrade the whole start to the shitty old one. Might as well get Windows 7 for that, hell, get XP and you'll be golden.
i agree with the fact u should just get used to the new start or downgrade to 7 instead of installing some other bullshit that makes it look different, But i completely disagree about what u said about IE. i dont care what u do to IE its still shit, just use firefox or chrome. Also i like to have CCleaner on all my pcs, and despise AVG.
penguiz23 There is an auto-sync that is seamless on IE when you have Windows 8 or above that's enabled when you log in to your PC with your Microsoft Account. I guess Chrome works when you log in to your Google account. The only difference here is that you'll have to log in to your whole Windows for IE to sync instead of just logging in to the browser itself (which I must do anyway when I turn on my PC). I don't really need extensions, in fact it's your choice what browser you'll use and I'm OK with that. Although I'm not OK with people saying IE is very slow making memes out of nothing and hating on Windows 8 when they haven't even tried it. I can't say Chrome is crap just because I use IE, and neither should those that use Chrome say the same thing about IE because they just install anything else out of bad talk or hatred towards IE. If you've tried IE and for some reason you like Chrome or FF or anything else better then go for it, just don't say IE is bad if you haven't even tried it. For me I don't like being wrapped around Google when browsing the web and that's the main reason I don't use Chrome. I tried FF and it's also very good and fast but I didn't like the scrolling action and that's too important, it's kinda choppy when compared to IE or Chrome (maybe it's just me ?). The point is to be unbiased, people. And choose what you like without hating on everything else there is to choose.
Windows 8 is pure bullshit, their forcing a tablet friendly OS onto desktop and laptop users. I honestly don't really care in google takes my info, as long as they don't give it to 3rd party im completely fine, Though I think i see a microsfot fanbboooooyyyy
just surfing the net before bad and found this video and I already do 99% of this stuff but really felt entertained as I watched and listened to him explain what to do. clicked on like and subscribed nice video well explained.
You missed out a few steps. Here's what I do when I get a new system. 1. Immediately Install Arch Linux on a dual boot with windows 10. 2. Install Wine on Arch Linux partition from the repository. 3. Download Linux Mint (I like it as a backup) and keep it on a bootable USB stick. 4. Download your Windows 10 .iso file and keep it on the USB stick with Linux Mint. (Just for safe keeping) 5. Download Hirens BootCD and keep it on a bootable USB stick, or put it on the Linux mint USB stick if you want a booting headache. 6. Update Windows 10 to the anniversary update. 7. Do all the things that are covered in this video. (Except the start button bit, Windows 10 doesn't need that.)
Step 1: Install steam Step 2: Go to any gaming related forum/video to laugh at console peasants Step 3: Praise your ruler, lord GabeN Cg, you are now part of the masterrace
I honestly prefer console. I don't really care to much about the other stuff you get on PC because I'm always focused on being the best one, not having the best looking game.
logan, if you really like having a clean desktop, you should see how you like making an invisible folder, and put all of the folders that would normally be on your desktop in that folder, along with a shortcut to recycle bin.
You forgot to install a sandboxed browser program. You should always sandbox websites you're not familiar with or when doing random browsing. And the only time I use chrome is for my google profile (youtube, google+, gmail, etc). And, as an IT guy, I agree that Norton is garbage. I'll get a clients computer and they have been running Norton for a couple of years. I wipe it immediately and run a scan with Kaspersky and always pick up adware/viruses that have been just chilling on their computer. Norton is like a teenaged girl on her cell phone looking her nails.
spider- man download .iso of windows 10 original from Microsoft using media creation tool and burn the image on dvd/pd...then format c drive then login to ur Microsoft account and activate the windows 10...it will delete all ur data from primary drive(mine is c drive) and it will perform fresh clean installation....
regardless of what apps and data you have on your hard dive, you can still download and install a fresh version of windows 10. I bought my MSI ge62vr apache pro that came with norton and stuff and I simply downloaded the ISO into a usb, booted up my pc with it, and did a fresh install. I am no tech expert at all, and I was able to do the installation in less than 15 min (not counting downloading the ISO)
2 other things on your video: Windows 8's included anti-virus is at least as capable as any free anti-virus, so AVG is unnecessary unless you want fine control. Also, I'd recommend SlimCleaner over CCleaner, its much more convenient to use.
Julien Vandal well that does not change the fact that they scam people, I used Windows without anti virus and firewall off for around a year and never had any problem. people just over Exaggerate about security and privacy
Mse7en True, just keep off of bogus sites. I haven't had an anti virus for years and my computer is still good. HP Pavillion, beats, Quad core, AMD. I just upgraded to a Yoga 900.
that is very true, for years i have stayed away from AV, FW and malware (including turning off windows annoyances). However software security companies are targeting/preying on computer illiterate people by invoking fear (I have friends that spend alot of money on antivirus software, asking me why their pc is so slow; they have 2-3 antivirus software running at the same time, I question why do you have 3 AV installed? Answer: "my pc was running slow" .. I SMH...its sort of ironic.) Next target is of course Corp.Companies they pay a pretty penny on a plethora of AV,FW.. and then some due to the many idiots that they hand a PC to. I don't blame them though, I have seen people try to do stupid stuff with company Pc's and not know it. I don't really see a big difference between a windows/linux/mac... you open the wrong email, click the wrong link then any machine is vulnerable; however, that windows is noticeably "attacked" more because it is the most widely used operating system. www.linux.com/learn/myth-busting-linux-immune-viruses happy surfing people!
I would recommend using at least one av but hay just my opinion. Just because you can be careful and not download any thing there is still a bit of a risk. If you use skype or other applications to talk to people online that are not that secure. You might want one also ads can give you a virus. So you could have to go to a web site with ad block turned off and might get a virus and never know it the same can be said for unfamiliar web sites. I do agree though they kinda make a big deal out of it some times. And yes Linux can be hacked too but it is a bit more rare for viruses to be on Linux. But I would still recommend getting an av.
I mean a free av not a paid one that is probably a bit to much unless your a big company. Or just a very concerned person who has a lot of targets on his/hers back.
Fedora is linux right? Im stupid wit this kinda stuff and i was wondering if fedora runs steam games because i had both ming and ubuntu for awhile and they did not install steam games
So true Ninite always give's you the latest version's of any Program you intend useing, just got my new Laptop and cleared all the rubbish programs that came with it and now is so minimal it run's so much faster and very reliable . I took a system Image that took 8-Disks on DVDs after removing the old rubbish Programs out and put in my new Programs on the System Image. Never thought it would take 8 DVDs but you live + Learn ...Thanks so much for great video .....PEACE
Just to make things simpler, you recommend we use: - PC Decrapifier - to uninstall bloatware - ninite.com - to bulk download and install preferred free software - CCleaner (downloaded from filehippo.com) - to keep PC clean - StartIsBack - to get a classic start menu instead of the Windows 8 metro It would help us if you summarized this on the description to the video and at the beginning and the end of your video. Otherwise, quite informative. Thank you!
Why the hate for IE? It's not just fast, but it's basically a very viable browser. Both Chrome and Mozilla failed me and just went nuts, but Opera and IE haven't. Why everybody is in a hurry? What difference makes 3 seconds for you, people? Do you think time is money? It is, but not for the peasants.
IE was good while it lasted but ever since chrome came in, it made IE look like shit. The reason I like chrome better is - It looks way better and if you dont like the appearance you can install a theme - adblock and other useful extensions. Some extensions like adblock are very useful - It's much easier to access settings, extensions, addons, history, incognito mode etc. - downloading files is much easier than IE - Chrome IS FASTER, don't argue with me. - Chrome IS SAFER - Chrome IS BETTER!
First thing I do with a new laptop: 1. wipe the hard drive 2. install fresh OS 3. install drivers (if necessary and using to an extent the handy support site any manufacturer I would buy from has) 4. install applications && configure settings 5. unbeatably perfect install done.
There is one major step that was not mention in this video, you should create a clone image of the system, when you get it to a good baseline setup. No matter if it is Windows, MAC, or Linux this is a crucial step. It will save you in the long run.
Luuk van Riel I don't play much games on my computer because most of my friends play on consoles. All the games I play on computer though are completely compatible with Linux. As for editing software, many RUclipsrs that I watch have no problem with that whatsoever.
I have the best of both worlds! Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on Desktop at the house, and Windows 8.1 on Laptop. Although Windows 8 and 8.1 is kind of garbage, I would rather have 7, but hey, I can't afford $140 for a OS.
Luuk van Riel More and more PC games are becoming multi-os compatible. Minecraft, LoL, Dota, Steam (most steam games), and Starcraft are compatible across all 3 major OS. (Linux, Windows(7+8), and OS X)
Luuk van Riel I guarantee that in the next 5 years, Linux will be compatable with any and all programs and games you would ever want. With the introduction of SteamBox, which runs on Linux, many game devs. are going to make their products Linux friendly, and with that rise in popularity, major software corporations such as Adobe will have no choice than to make their products compatible with Linux out of the box. Oh, and by the way, with a little bit of effort, the internet, and half a brain, you can install non-native software on Linux.
fliteshare Ew. Never speak of that atrocious disaster called Vista again. When it comes to Linux, it is good, but it will never become mainstream because it is stuck in a vicious loop of "Companies won't develop for it because the user base is too small because companies won't develop for it because the user base is too small."
Ryan M Companies don't need to develop for Linux. Millions of geeks worldwide are developing it, at a rate of 4300 lines of code PER DAY (in 2008) /watch?v=L2SED6sewRw Nothing can keep up with that. It is more a fear of open sourcing their software development that keeps most companies from investing / working on Linux. BTW the MicroSoft conversion program from Vista to W7 was a Linux module (published by MicroSoft) and so is oneget (the new W10 package manager) an open source program. Hear it from the horses mouth: www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/2khkpo/ This proves to me that it is MicroSoft that has a problem keeping up with the onslaught of open source (read LInux).
Might well be true. But once you got Linux going right. It has the friggin coolest user interface ever. /watch?v=4QokOwvPxrE Don't tell W8 users they could have a desktop looking just like that and for free as in zero dollars ! They might feel shafted by M$.
Okay, i personally like windows 8, because i feel like its for the more experienced PC users, the locations of most things seems to be a common problem, might be different and hard at first, but learning how to use windows 8 makes me feel a lot more confident with PC's, there is a tutorial on it after you see that, you will be an expert and realise how easy it is to use it
IE 11 is great, its actually faster then Chrome. That's coming from someone who only used Chrome, for years... Stop acting like its bad to use, IF YOU TRY IT, you will see its good, instead of going off what some other guy said in a review or on the internet. And its just overall better then FireFox. And yes... iv used Firefox, a lot. IE 1 is better then it ever was before, an the Metro version is even better yet.
17thSzAdDaM SO how about tell what flaws are with it? Hmm? Instead of just saying it sucks. Give REASONS. and theres a thing called Addons... AdBlock Plus, so many more addons that will stop people from tracking you... and IE has tracking protection built in...
Even though IE 11 is on the right path now and actually has a great benchmark score that both beats Firefox and Chrome, it has very few add-ons and customization options. Microsoft doesn't update it very frequently either. IE 11 is only available to Windows 8.1 and 7 users, something that may cause trouble for people using older operating systems. I partially agree with you though, people hate the browser waayy too much.
***** Theres LOTS of addons... what are you talking about? There is a "store" kind of, but the best place to find addons are just on the internet. Iv found over 4 great Adblocks, One being AdBlock Plus, the best of the best. There is a lot of Addons... there just not all in the store. IF you want customization, theres no real browsers to use... in that area its the same as Chrome. Other then the Theme part. But other then that its the same as Customization goes. You can have Bookmarks, Folders, you can even launch Programs on your PC from the bookamrks Bar... with chrome it tries to download it if you do that. There coming out with a Large update soon. They have been Busy with things like Xbox, Surface, Widows Phone 8.1, Windows 8.1 Update 1, etc... and don't have time to make a update for IE. Not that it needs it, but like I said there I one coming soon. Yes it doesn't work with most Windows Versions other then Win8 really. But who even uses a older OS anyways? Windows 8 is literally Windows 7, with a start Screen instead of menu, even then, right clicking the Start Button in 8.1 brings a popup box that has EVERYTHING the Start Menu had, minus the search bar. Dont know why people are complaining when the OS is a UPGRADE. Its a upgrade... When you install Windows 8 you NEED to have a Previous Windows Installed, because its a Upgrade... Like I said, it has Every.... Single.... Thing... Windows 7 had... Some seem to think your forced to use the Start screen or some stupid thing? Like really? You whole desktop, your WHOLE desktop settings, ARE ALL THERE... its the EXACT same as Windows 7 when you look at the Desktop. Minus the Different Theme (Start button has different Icon, and the borders on Windows are More Modern.)
Phillip Ragazzo That's mainly because you've already invested money in your windows games and want to keep playing them. My situation is completely different, I always played on a console and when I switched to PC-gaming, I already ran linux 100% of the time, so I had no games that depended on windows, currently I only buy games that are linux compatible, and when they aren't I e-mail the publisher that I'd like to pay double the game's price if they add in linux-support.
norton had a reputation for high CPU usage a while ago but norton started to get better in 2010 and is way better than the dreaded McAfee... the 2014 version is really good, i will admit some older version of norton were not very good but norton is really good now, not the best but still is good. there is a AV i think is better than norton but cost more so i just pay for norton and have malwarebytes as well to scan for the virus's and have norton to stop them but for a free AV i recommend avast
When I first get a laptop/PC, the first thing that happens is I turn off the computer, stick in my Ubuntu LTS stick, and install. Then I decrapify Windows. Then I boot into Linux every time unless I need to play games/use adobe.
werdna hoz Download a distro of Linux and get iso image on disc or usb flash drive.. boot from disc or usb. Read installation direction and chose to wipe Windows or dual boot with grub.
werdna hoz I am pretty surezies that if you jump onto the linux web sight and download linux (Ubuntu anyway) it has the option of doing the whole process for you O.o I think, dont remember, check out the Ubuntu web sight.
if at all possible, just complete re install, with the original partitions removed.... thats what one should do with these bloat infested "factory computers" and laptops.
scooynilo You just said uses does not mean anything, then said the people who work with computers that you know, say its the best? So the people who use it say its the best... you kind of did a double negative... and, I also said Review and Ratings, Also, the people you know probably have never tired anything else... the reviews, ratings, and amount of users don't lie, if it was not the best, why would people be using it so much? hmm? Just because the people you 'know' use it (witch could be a lie or you told them it was the best) doesn't compare to the amount of people saying Avast is the best. Until Avira gets the top ratings, reviews, and users, Avast is better.
Man, forget antivirus programs. I just use Windows Defender. Well, I am a computer technician, so I can get rid of any virus, so don't listen to me haha.
Havazik Agree, I normally use Windows Defender, iv started doing things that could possibly give me a higher chance of infection, so I use Avast, just incase. Iv never had a virus or similar, and doubt I ever will, but having some backup is always nice. Plus I like Avast features, like a Screen Saver that also Scans your PC, sadly Windows Defender doesn't have it. So when im not at my PC it scans it, witch is pretty good, no interruptions, but still checks things. Other then that I would be using Windows Defender, You've used it for ever? Ever had any problems that it didn't detect? Iv never seen anything go wrong with Windows Defender, some have said its a pile of garbage, from what iv used of it its a great Option, How's it working out for you?
First thing I do? Wipe the drive and install a fresh copy of Windows and Linux. Although, now it's to the point where I really only need Linux on my laptop since I have a dedicated gaming PC now.
What I do when i get a new laptop- 1.clean format it 2.scrub the laptop clean off windows-stupid-8 3.install windows 7..THANKGOD! 4.install right programmes and drivers. 5.enjoy my new laptop. DONE!!!
why all the h8 for win8? it as bad as people keep saying, works best with a touchscreen. i am running win7,8.1 and 10 and there isnt anything "wrong" with in 8.1...... the metro ui should be optional (and it kind of is at this point) but thats about it really.
1toncheese win 8 actually handles some thing faster than win7 but i just dont like how it looks. People don't want change, what we want is a better win7
1toncheese I'm with you man. I don't know why people dislike win 8 so much. it is actually better than 7. If you don't like the start screen (metro UI) don not use it. The new version (win 8.1) allows you to do just that. And the new upcoming update will also bring the start button back. Stop judging by appearance guys or because someone said is bad. Technology is evolving and so are we, if you do not like it stay with you Win XP that was a century ago.
Logan i love you!!! I have been trying to get rid of frikin norton on my computer for such a long time! I re-Os my maching every couple of months (when norton expires) and i have tried to get rid of it via any means and it always says "You do not have permission for this action" YES! people win again almost sentient machine-crack pottery.
Chrome for light browsing? Chrome is the biggest memory hog and resource wasteare. Why would you have such a poorly devleloped piece of software on a computer?
Whatatay T It's fine on a decent rig. Chrome for my desktop and IE for my tablet PC. Google need to step up their game though. Everyone shits on internet explorer but it runs a hell of a lot better than chrome.
Macs don't come with any junk and other crap its already clean and pristine from start. Linux laptops? Doesn't exist

skylineGT Linux laptops do exist: system76.com/laptops/oryx www.dell.com/learn/us/en/555/campaigns/xps-linux-laptop?c=us&l=en&s=biz And there are more laptops or computers with other distros....
If you got a Win 8 machine, you can simply download a Media Creation Tool from Microsoft for free and create Win 8.1 USB installation media. Boot from USB and during the installation remove old partition(s) and create new. When you have a new, clean OS, you can download drivers - without the crapware. Since in recent Win 8 notebooks the license key is stored in BIOS, you are free to install official Win 8.1 over your OEM preinstalled one, and the version is selected automatically based on your license key. After all the trouble, which doesn't really take much time, you can create backup image of the clean OS with drivers installed. The clean image is a very good alternative to "Recovery partition" because it can be stored on external memory and doesn't include the crapware. Good luck! PS. Install Classic Shell for Win7-like experience ;)
Hey guys, #1 step (especially for new computer users) should probably be making the restore USB key/DVDs. Even if the system is full of bloatware better to do it at this point because users might accidentally install malware in the process of trying to download something like PC Decrapifier. Sure you can always restore/repair from the Win 8/10 partition, but if they make a restore USB key/DVD they at least have other media in the future if their HDD dies.
Classic Shell is really good now. It is just like Windows 7 start, but looks like Windows 8. It also doesn't use up resources or anything form what I've seen.
I believe the reason for not installing multiple programs on the hard drive at the same time, is that it increases the chance of fragments on the disk.
I dont get why people need a start button. I've been using 8 for years and really don't miss it. All they did was move it to the top right corner. Charms does everything start did.
Ninite = G R E A T !! - Can't believe nobody else did something similar already, just the best thing you can use on a new PC. About the PC Decrapifier : I used it both on a clean, and a - dirty - computer, and both didn't find a lot unnecessary programs. I think that if you are a fan of the Add/Remove Windows program, the PC Decrapifier is doing exactly the same.
The first thing I do when I get a new laptop or PC is to wipe the drive and re-install the OS fresh. You can get the drivers from the manufacturers website easily.
*Installs Norton illegally*
Runs Norton Scan
*Norton successfully deletes itself*
haha
lmao
that would be cool!! :D
System 32
the only time you should use Internet Explorer is to download another browser
Lol
But my question is what?
Google chrome?
Internet Explorer; #1 Browser for downloading browsers.

Schicken Phartso Chrome is the best browser though but Opera is getting better and better also.
Chrome is garbage.
You used IE for too long. I cried. First thing to do: download and install Chrome/FireFox and do everything else in the video with Chrome/FireFox.
Instructions not clear, deleted system 32. (This was super helpful for me tho, never used windows)
Captinpixles ye
+Captinpixles 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅the dark side
The tiny line above your profile picture drives me crazy
Can somebody tell me what system 32 is?
+Armando Manuli Basically it has all the important system files that windows needs to run. If you delete it, you will have to repair windows.
if i break something i will blame you and yes you will take responsibility
k
Agree dude, when i Just heard it i was like "so, Who i'm going to blame on if i brake something D:? "
lool exactly
Matias Miranda your self is the one to blame cuz you downloaded not him
Yes...you may be rigth :v
Step 1: Do a clean install.
Done :D
+BowGunner Yeah, I'm a little baffled as to why he basically shows you how to clean up the existing install. Maybe this was aimed at people who are complete noobs who would find a complete OS install daunting.
Actually, what baffles me is why I'm even watching this. I already know what to do. For some reason when I get bored I end up watching how to videos for things I already know how to do lol.
PeugeotRocket I do the exact same thing when I'm bored! :D *high five*
BowGunner Lol high five :D
+PeugeotRocket
I do that alot aswell. I have no idea why i like to do it. I just do.
+BowGunner Step 1: Install linux
I know that many people hate windows 8 but after you've used it a couple of week you'll get used to it and then it's not bad at all.
If you use it a couple of weeks and you like it, probably your mom was not human
guyver2095
she didn't choose the laptop, i did. Windows 8 is like the new Windows Vista and Windows 10 will probably be like Windows 7.
---
You've probably never even given win8 a shot.
Jonaz lol yeah windows 8 is alright....not even that bad. just ew and different. but yeah windows 10 will probably be better. but damn os x is for me though. simple clean and sexy looking. works perfectly fine for me
Jonaz
I use win 8 sometimes, but I found it Horrible, and childish every time. I guess some people like it because they identify themselves with those characteristics
guyver2095
I like both windows 8 and 7, but i do like 7 over 8 and it's not because of the "new" metro. It's because of all the errors in 8 that still to this day has not been properly fixed, like the windows update that don't do shit and installing new metro apps that never begin downloading.
With all these Linux arguments I have devised a chart to explain who should pick which OS you should choose:
Linux Based: tinkerer
Windows: Gamer/business
MAC OS: the technologically retarted
But if your a tinkering gamer... well playonlinux is pretty good.
+kenkraken actually anything else is also just as good for video/photo editing
***** oh so could you kindly explain why?
***** you have lost all logic
***** then why waste your time talking to me
***** I am open minded so long as whatever it is actually based on facts, macs (for the money) are NOT worth it, unless you are bad with tech, in which case it is easy to navigate and is intuitive. my first computer was a mac and it was great until I wanted to use it for anything other than Web browsing and Ms word. other than that Windows is the best all around os and most Linux distros are my favorite options, however I use Windows due to the nearly universal compatibility of the NT kernel.
My point exactly. The presence of unwanted software IS the disgrace.
boi
I do that with my phone so it lasts longer, my previous phone lasted 4 years
i like norton because its easy to steal i mean use
+Dave Dumas XD
+Dave Dumas funnnyyyyyyyy
First thing you should do with a new laptop? Reimage the entire machine.
Nuke that shit from orbit.
Or, just format the thing and install a linux distribution. All that pre-installed software.. Gone..
Linux is trash. If I wanted Linux, why wouldn't I buy a Linux computer in the first place? No, I want Windows, I'm not gonna throw out an OS that I paid for.
Jack Maxfield why pay for OS when everything is free...!
Yeah, but if you want a gaming computer better stay with windows...
Why is everyone so against the new start menu? After using 8.1 for just a month or two, Its actually really grown on me.
yes...it does. the tiles ARE the start menu.

good question
Eden Allen
it is recommended not to do that as it can cause the computer to malfunction or not work properly since it changes the that system file as well as the directory of that file. im not saying dont but take a huge think about it before changing any part of the O/S, even if its just changing to the the way it performs or look as it can do some harm to the O/S possibly causing you to re-image or re-format the computer. Just think about it before even considering doing it and take note of the risks that come with it
chris johnson
bullshit, changing the user interface does not affect the computer function.
***** , infact yes it can since your not only changing the user interface, but the files that go along with it. i think i know what im talking about since im studying I.T.
"I tell the computer what to do, you don't tell me what to do" That line perfectly describes the difference between IT people and the rest of the world.
It's usually perfectly fine to install multiple programs at once. Usually, unless they are drivers.
first thing I do is to install antivirus app to keep my pc safe. Next i install my favorite FolderChanger app to manage my documents easily. You can find it when you google "FolderChanger"
DO I DO THE EXACT SAME THING FOR WINDOWS 10?
answer this plz
like windows 10 :^)
+Elfenliedd Old comment now but whatever.
I recommend looking up videos on privacy settings to look over when using Win10.
Things might have changed since I went back to Win7 about 2 weeks after trying out Win10 about a year ago but there were all kinds of annoying crap where the computer would send various data to Microsoft unless you thourougly went through all settings related to privacy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't see the need for pre loaded hardware or software. It's just a matter of finding what you don't need. Thanks for the guide, this opened up my eyes way more than before.

I wish I knew about Ninite a few years ago.
Me too brother... Me too..
Correction: build*
Sorry, build ;D. mines custom built by myself. quad 5ghz :).
When you buy a computer with Windows these should be the first steps you do:
1-Uninstall Windows.
2-Install any Linux distribution. Ubuntu is fine.
3-???
4-Profit.
LOL step 4.... profit... THanks underpants nomes! lol
When you buy a computer with Windows these should be the first steps you do:

5-No gaming
6-Reinstall Windows and steam
Sèna Gangbè In the first place there is Steam in Linux. In the second place, I don't give a fuck about losing my time with a bunch of clonic FPS and the uninspiring indies that make up 80 % of the catalog anyway.
abelcowl Then use origin :p
I don't fully agree, it is better to have Windows as the host OS and virtualize any Linux Dist. You can have the best of both worlds.
*More New PC Tips:*
Steam is essentially portable and can be installed along side other installations.
Norton is like one of those weirdos that when u go home and they waite and hide in ur bed for u hahahahaha
Step 1: download chrome
Step 2: uninstall IE
This guy gets it! Step 3: install Adblock
+TonyDaExpert no
are you noob step 1. you unistall chrome
step.2 install ie 12
dude any verson of IE sucks...cant install minecraft from it.... cant install anything from IE
technogamer awsomeness if you can't install anything from ie then you would have no programs (other than the windows programs)
All done :)
Gaming though.
Arch please
The only thing windows has over Linux is gaming. Linux has everything else over both windows and Mac. Windows DOS was copied from the Unix bash shell and Mac is just a distro of Linux. Thus Linux is the the big daddy of all computers. As an ex-Windows lover, a coder and a pc builder I can tell you from my experience Linux is amazing. (PS, both ios and android are both distros of linux as well ;)
*****
Huh? Under Linux my machine is more useful than ever before and doesn't need any TLC. What kind of super special software are you using that can't be reeplaced by an open source version?
*****
Not entirely true, Zakary.
Also i like to have CCleaner on all my pcs, and despise AVG.
tyler97 Have you ever even tried IE11 ?
I honeslty agree that it's kinda fast, but I still stick to Chrome because of all the extentions, and that you can sync bookmarks and history.
penguiz23 There is an auto-sync that is seamless on IE when you have Windows 8 or above that's enabled when you log in to your PC with your Microsoft Account.

The biggest thing the decrapifier needs to delete is win8, :)
(Just for safe keeping)
Step 1: Install steam
Step 2: Go to any gaming related forum/video to laugh at console peasants
Step 3: Praise your ruler, lord GabeN
Cg, you are now part of the masterrace
I honestly prefer console. I don't really care to much about the other stuff you get on PC because I'm always focused on being the best one, not having the best looking game.
You're funny. xD
"Windows is all, hey dude you got no virus protection."
"No shut up...windows. Computers don't tell me what to do."
logan, if you really like having a clean desktop, you should see how you like making an invisible folder, and put all of the folders that would normally be on your desktop in that folder, along with a shortcut to recycle bin.
Norton is like a teenaged girl on her cell phone looking her nails.
sep (norton) is great in an enterprise environment, but for home users its terrible
Instead of these things just perform a clean installation of windows.... that's it...
that's what I do
is it safe to do, though? Will it break anything in my computer? Also how do you perform a clean installation of windows?
spider- man download .iso of windows 10 original from Microsoft using media creation tool and burn the image on dvd/pd...then format c drive then login to ur Microsoft account and activate the windows 10...it will delete all ur data from primary drive(mine is c drive) and it will perform fresh clean installation....
Kedaar Kulkarni can you still do this right after you downloaded an app? i just downloaded google chrome and i just want to make sure
regardless of what apps and data you have on your hard dive, you can still download and install a fresh version of windows 10.
Also, I'd recommend SlimCleaner over CCleaner, its much more convenient to use.
does ninite give you the latest versions of the apps?
yes
"anti-viruses is a scam " - Linux user
I don't really see a big difference between a windows/linux/mac... you open the wrong email, click the wrong link then any machine is vulnerable; however, that windows is noticeably "attacked" more because it is the most widely used operating system.
www.linux.com/learn/myth-busting-linux-immune-viruses
happy surfing people!
I have not recently gotten a new computer but I just watched the whole of this video... keep up the good work!
Dude Classic Shell is free and looks just like the Win7 start menu.
Gazza B windows 10 is also free
+Bart Breedveld but invades privacy just stick win 7 or 8.1 with classicshell
+People Have Generic Accounts But isn't the update that invades users' privacy being pushed to 7 and 8.1?
Step 1: Install Ubuntu.
....
There is no step 2.
mattorama I'd prefer using Mint over Ubuntu though, closer to the feel of windows xp/7.
Fedora is linux right? Im stupid wit this kinda stuff and i was wondering if fedora runs steam games because i had both ming and ubuntu for awhile and they did not install steam games
The Shaman Ey b0ss, fedora is linux. I've had steam on all of those systems as well as crunch bang and they all run steam and can install games.
U sur b0ss?
The Shaman Ye, you just have to make sure the game is available for linux
So true Ninite always give's you the latest version's of any Program you intend useing, just got my new Laptop and cleared all the rubbish programs that came with it and now is so minimal it run's so much faster and very reliable . I took a system Image that took 8-Disks on DVDs after removing the old rubbish Programs out and put in my new Programs on the System Image. Never thought it would take 8 DVDs but you live + Learn ...Thanks so much for great video .....PEACE
@Jeff Sharpe No thanks. I'm fine with Windows 8.1 and it's much better Start screen.
I don't like internet explorer because it's to complicated XD. But I'm not sure if it has gotten better, I might as well get ie
Lol how is it complicated? IE is actually the simpliest out of all the browers.
true, it can read most html stuff. better than google. but i like google because it basic
Ilikeduhrice Nummy It's not better than Chrome.. chrome can read more complex script links that IE cannot. And like I said , so is IE basic too.
im confused now
Ilikeduhrice Nummy If you put google.com then space you can use google search from the url bar.
Just to make things simpler, you recommend we use:
- PC Decrapifier - to uninstall bloatware
- ninite.com - to bulk download and install preferred free software
- CCleaner (downloaded from filehippo.com) - to keep PC clean
- StartIsBack - to get a classic start menu instead of the Windows 8 metro
It would help us if you summarized this on the description to the video and at the beginning and the end of your video. Otherwise, quite informative. Thank you!
MSI...love their products
Same. My current graphics card (GeForce 650) and future (GeForce 750 Ti) are/are going to be MSI.
Wimpywolf If I were you, I'd get the EVGA 750 Ti FTW. But, the MSI variant is great too.
Yes time is money. your computer uses constantly uses power. and power is money
Rado Rusev But it's not slow ffs.
***** Oh god. It's horrid. Horrible browser.
It was also one of the original browsers, and is least protected from viruses. You're taking a great risk by using IE.
IE was good while it lasted but ever since chrome came in, it made IE look like shit.
The reason I like chrome better is
- It looks way better and if you dont like the appearance you can install a theme
- adblock and other useful extensions. Some extensions like adblock are very useful
- It's much easier to access settings, extensions, addons, history, incognito mode etc.
- downloading files is much easier than IE
- Chrome IS FASTER, don't argue with me.
- Chrome IS SAFER
- Chrome IS BETTER!
First thing I do with a new laptop:
1. wipe the hard drive
2. install fresh OS
3. install drivers (if necessary and using to an extent the handy support site any manufacturer I would buy from has)
4. install applications && configure settings
5. unbeatably perfect install done.
When he selected AVG I died inside... Seriously AVG.
+Dawgidy Dawg it used to be
***** its worse than norton.
+ALPHA CANIS MAJORIS i got the same one. top notch antivirus very light on top of it, so doesnt slow down your pc at all
+Flajarkin what do you use? ive only used avg and i still have viruses -_-
Zane018 i just run malwarebytes every month. no infections in 10 years
Put SSD on it. Upgrade RAM
No shit expert appeared :D maybe laptop already has a sdd and enough RAM?
SSD may be fast but at $1 a GB and a life span of 3 years I will stick with my 30s boot time on a regular HDD
***** That's no longer the case, but enjoy your long load times.
pulpbits
Long load times? I had a HDD with SATA that loads fine. I am in no rush for my games I can wait.
***** right now thats how much pcie ssds are. regular ones are around 50-65 cents a gig
There is one major step that was not mention in this video, you should create a clone image of the system, when you get it to a good baseline setup. No matter if it is Windows, MAC, or Linux this is a crucial step. It will save you in the long run.
What to do when you get a new notebook/laptop/pc?
Install Linux.
Luuk van Riel so true too. I've been gaming exclusively on gnu/linux machines now. I used to have to set up a microsoft machine years ago.
Remove W8,
Install Linux !
Dima Boychev Ever tried Vista ?
fliteshare Ew.
Millions of geeks worldwide are developing it, at a rate of 4300 lines of code PER DAY (in 2008)
/watch?v=L2SED6sewRw
Nothing can keep up with that.
It is more a fear of open sourcing their software development that keeps most companies from investing / working on Linux.
BTW the MicroSoft conversion program from Vista to W7 was a Linux module (published by MicroSoft) and so is oneget (the new W10 package manager) an open source program.
Hear it from the horses mouth:
www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/2khkpo/
This proves to me that it is MicroSoft that has a problem keeping up with the onslaught of open source (read LInux).
Linux is tech geeks' wet dream. Fairly useless for content consumers and desk workers.
Might well be true.
But once you got Linux going right.
It has the friggin coolest user interface ever.
/watch?v=4QokOwvPxrE
Don't tell W8 users they could have a desktop looking just like that and for free as in zero dollars ! They might feel shafted by M$.
Okay, i personally like windows 8, because i feel like its for the more experienced PC users, the locations of most things seems to be a common problem, might be different and hard at first, but learning how to use windows 8 makes me feel a lot more confident with PC's, there is a tutorial on it after you see that, you will be an expert and realise how easy it is to use it
In Soviet Russia, Computer tell you what to do
IE 11 is great, its actually faster then Chrome.
It's not just about speed, but security too, so IE still sucks balls in that field.
***** no IE sucks
WOW, THIS IS ACTUALLY VERY USEFULL MAN, i dont need it now but wen i get my new PC ill need all this, im gona Favorit this vid to watch it later
about that, why cant i Favorit a video on youtube to be able to find it some other day??

Thanks for the guide bro!! Just Got a Lenovo Laptop and uninstalled and deleted SuperFish and followed your guide.
First thing to do with any pc: erase all the hard drive's contents, then install your favorite linux os :-)
Until there's a little bit more game support for it. I can't say I'd get rid of windows.
Niek Nooijens Dual boot my nigga
DavisSgt no need for it, got steamOS :-)
Also windows needs a lot of maintenance to keep it working well...
Niek Nooijens Yea SteamOS is lacking alot of programs
norton is awesome!
For viruses. They're known for putting on viruses. My old Vista laptop had Norton ad it wouldn't let me use the laptop unless I paid for Norton.
RetroGamer72 well i have been using norton for a long time and nothing like that has happend
MLCgames
Ah. Maybe it got better over the years.
norton had a reputation for high CPU usage a while ago but norton started to get better in 2010 and is way better than the dreaded McAfee... the 2014 version is really good, i will admit some older version of norton were not very good but norton is really good now, not the best but still is good. there is a AV i think is better than norton but cost more so i just pay for norton and have malwarebytes as well to scan for the virus's and have norton to stop them
but for a free AV i recommend avast
MLCgames AVG Is definitely the best though.
When I first get a laptop/PC, the first thing that happens is I turn off the computer, stick in my Ubuntu LTS stick, and install. Then I decrapify Windows. Then I boot into Linux every time unless I need to play games/use adobe.
Remove Microsoft. Install Linux. Done
werdna hoz Download a distro of Linux and get iso image on disc or usb flash drive.. boot from disc or usb. Read installation direction and chose to wipe Windows or dual boot with grub.
How does one remove Microsoft, please tell me how I can get rid of Microsoft from my house!
Charley Leaf Bill Gates left a long time ago.
Incandescent
He left his position as CEO. He did not leave the company. He is in fact still working there today.
werdna hoz I am pretty surezies that if you jump onto the linux web sight and download linux (Ubuntu anyway) it has the option of doing the whole process for you O.o I think, dont remember, check out the Ubuntu web sight.
if at all possible, just complete re install, with the original partitions removed.... thats what one should do with these bloat infested "factory computers" and laptops.
how do you do that? I just got my new laptop it already installed windows 10 with it?
+skylineGT you can download "media creation tool" directly from Microsoft to create your own install media without any bloat.

'AVG and Avast are good'. Dude, both of those suck, install Avira.
So that's why Avast! Is the number one moat used Free antivirus, and the one with the best ratings
eviews?
***** Used does not mean quality. Literally everyone I know that works with PC's thinks that Avira is the best FREE anti-virus
scooynilo You just said uses does not mean anything, then said the people who work with computers that you know, say its the best?
Although, now it's to the point where I really only need Linux on my laptop since I have a dedicated gaming PC now.
why even care, xbox 630 is the best gaming device and have way way better grafics then pc.
u r such a master troll
Lol open a book scrub because you are really making me nervous that you are not trolling
No it isnt
LOL he must be playing on a $2 computer

1.clean format it
2.scrub the laptop clean off windows-stupid-8
3.install windows 7..THANKGOD!
Luke Obrien
and win10 is almost that with some of the good win8/8.1 things thrown in.
Adrian Barat
Metro, yes metro de chile! te van a dar....
what to do
1.return your laptop and get the money back
2.BUILD A FUCKIN PC !!!!!

Logan i love you!!! I have been trying to get rid of frikin norton on my computer for such a long time!
I re-Os my maching every couple of months (when norton expires) and i have tried to get rid of it via any means and it always says "You do not have permission for this action"
YES! people win again almost sentient machine-crack pottery.
JayJapanB Yep. I think Chrome is so bloated because Google uses it to spy on you.
You called it what to do with a laptop...
You should call it what to do with windows laptop.
Somebody uses Linux or Mac....
Macs don't come with any junk and other crap its already clean and pristine from start. Linux laptops? Doesn't exist
skylineGT Linux laptops do exist:
system76.com/laptops/oryx
www.dell.com/learn/us/en/555/campaigns/xps-linux-laptop?c=us&l=en&s=biz
And there are more laptops or computers with other distros....
+Vojtěch Hořánek sounds dumb
wait i thought you creatures were extinct.
I wipe the hdd and install ubuntu!
IE IZ DA BESST
IE certainly performs better than the other browsers because it utilises the GPU. Its still not the best in terms of compatibility though.
Dude. AVG
Classic Shell is really good now. It is just like Windows 7 start, but looks like Windows 8. It also doesn't use up resources or anything form what I've seen.
1. Replace HDD with SSD
2. Install clean Windows from ground up to remove bloatware
3. Do windows updates
Done.
