I think I've posted this before: My desktop - AMD A6-5400k overclocked at 4.3ghz, 24gbs RAM, Radeon RX460 4GB, 2 SSD hard drives and 2 spinning rust. Built in 2015 with 2012 parts :D
Kudos to you , my good sir(or madam)! -_-7 When I had to upgrade my desktop, I gave the old motherboard (I no longer remember its name), AMD A8-7600 APU and 16 gigs of DDR3 Ram to my dad, who is still rocking it as a Linux system for his woodworking projects.
Mine's a bit newer but similar: AMD R3-3200G at stock speed, 32GiB of RAM, Radeon Vega 64 and a NVMe and SATA SSD in RAID 0. I was given the RAM for free, would have stuck to 16GiB if it wasn't for that, but those sticks went down to my brother, upgrading him from 8GiB to 24GiB.
A better title would be: Don't NEEDLESSLY upgrade. I only upgrade my PC parts if something is defective, broken or struggling horribly to run new applications. Past those 3 factors, I don't upgrade out of FOMO or upgrade addiction.
This title was perfect. All I wanted to do is click on it and post a comment about how I built my PC a decade ago and am overdue for an upgrade. Then click on a different video with a perfect title to bait hate.
Feels like my 6700xt is a 1080p card. Could be because of my 3600 non x but im getting the same performance at 1440p compared to 1080p like palworld and first descendent. So I might as well just stay on my decent 1080p monitor. The 1440p monitor I have is shit.
The whole RT propaganda is why I haven't bothered upgrading my GPU. I don't care about super accurate lighting. I want the game to run smoothly and the lighting to look believable. It doesn't need to be 100% realistic.
Funny, when I was 14 technology was advancing so rapidly you had to upgrade your pc every 2-4 years. And it was about a tenth of the cost. Wasn't until I was about 26 you could build something and just leave things for 10 years and still do most everything.
"Don't spend money on stuff you don't need" Opens video description and see affiliate links to junk I don't need... Good advice, will use it next time too!
A tell as old as time, This isn't anything new! Adults will do what they want at the end of the day, whether it's smart or not. Those with the means and good credit aren't ever swayed by others opinions when it comes to financially intelligent decisions, because they generally manage their money well anyway. The advise is mainly for the young and dumb and poor financial decision makers.
"You're going to have influencers trying to get you to buy things you don't need" - Proceeds to spend the next 2 minutes trying to sell a windows and office OEM key. 😅
People who need a windows and office OEM key need a windows and office OEM key. People do not need to upgrade their graphics cards or CPUs every 4 years. Especially when the "improvement" in visual quality and FPS is at best subjective when it comes to gaming applications. On top of that the newest graphic cards are expensive. The difference between generations of graphics cards used to be noticeable - now it is not. No one is "missing out" by buying the newest graphics cards. Most computer hardware channels have made this exact point and yet no one in the audience called them out for it. Some people are just angry at this guy for some reason. That seems to be the only explanation for people making these mind numbingly st*p*d takes.
Life is short. If gaming is your hobby then buy the best you can afford and enjoy it. (If you've ever been in to building fast cars etc, then pc's are a cheap hobby.)
Agree that it isn't that expensive relative to many hobbies. Also somewhat agree on 'buy the best you can afford.' Shamelessly give yourself a budget befitting your love of gaming; maybe upgrade on a cycle to spread out costs. Then the game is to make the most cost efficient upgrades in an order that makes sense for your system. Nerding on the gear is it's own hobby.
I agree, it annoys me no end hearing people moan about a few hundred dollars which spread over a couple of years or more of use amounts to peanuts per week.
@couchtripper You do need to by the best you can afford that's the point. People use argument like I won't spend 50% more money to get 25% better performance. Most 'value for money' arguments are useless. Performance costs and it always true that gains reduce the higher you go. You can't get that performance any other way, so do it.
Ah yes the typical life is short argument that is used to justify so many poor financial decisions. Why are so many people allergic to fiscal prudence and delayed gratification?
I'm watching this video on my super overclocked Core 2 quad Q6600 @ 3.29GHz and GTX 970 3.5GB of vram, and only 8GB of ram on a windows 7, FHD 24" monitor... you'll be surprised how many things still run on this setup and run well =)
I've built a desktop in 2020 with i7 9700k, RTX 3070 and 32gb ram. Although I have the budget to upgrade now, I don't feel the need to. It still performs decently for my needs (playing at 1080p 240hz) and I don't see any game out right now that warrants an upgrade. The only games that really push me to upgrade are games made by Rockstar, so I'm holding off till GTA 6 comes out on PC.
I have building PC's since the early 2000's. For awhile there I was "upgrading" as soon as the next series of GPU and/or platform came out. I had a dispensable income at the time, no kids, no house and just blew my money on new stuff. It was a waste of money. I ran into an older PC gaming engineer at work who said he didn't' upgrade unless the performance was at the very least 50% and also had to make sense in other ways but it was a waste to him. These days I look at my backlog in Steam, look at my physical console game collection and then do the math with "time to beat" and ask myself, "If I had this GPU....would I even notice?" and "Am I really going to have to time to complete this game?". 80% games I want to play are from 2010-2019, a new 40 series GPU isn't really going to do it. Sittting on my 1080ti and a 5800x right now, both of which I got as heavily discounted from a friend. This PC should last me 5 more years at least and also be able to handle a newer GPU.
That's about where I am... I built my PC in 2019 right before the 3XXX series came out and thought "Okay, let me get a midrange card for right now and struggle on some games until its time to upgrade" then the scalping and covid mess happened, and I just kinda lost focus on it. However... I just moved to a 4K monitor from 1080p and that struggling has REALLY jumped, even at 1440p in some stuff... so I'm thinking its time lol
I updated my 3060 12gb for a 4070 super and if being honest there is only 1 game that I'm noticing runs another at 1440p. Mostly because I like so many of the older games.
I would love a video on the price "miss-labeling" done around Black Friday/ Christmas. I noticed that the R5 7600x is on sale now, but the sale price is the same price it was 6 months ago. They artificially inflated the price, then added a SALE (what it should be!) tricking people's emotions into thinking its on sale. Even though its more expensive than 6 months ago.
While pooping I got the thought of getting a 5070ti to upgrade from 7800xt, but that would probably cost like 1300 dollars. Having a place to poop is better than a new gpu.
I've only ever upgraded when there's a significant improvement over what I'm used to. On average, that's a hardware change every 3/6 years in a leap-frog fashion. Cpu every ~6 years, Gpu every 3-6 years depending on fps improvements without exceeding $300-$400... Case-in-point; I waited on getting an NVMe-based storage, till 2024. Things loaded 'quickly-enough' with a Sata SSD, up to the point I got this new MB/CPU with a slot in it
A jump, for me, from a 4060 to a 5060 with a %10 to %15 jump in performance is not worth it. I have a 3060 12gb that i bought last year. The jump from a 3060 to a 5060 however, is worth it. With this jump in GPU and one more CPU upgrade to a fast 5000 series, i am still on AM4, i should be able to bypass the AM5 Platform altogether and re-join in the nvidia 6000 series cards and AM6 CPU platform. This will only take 2 to 3 years as well.
Sound advice for sure. My 5900x/6800xt still do the job just fine for the games I play. I will wait in the shadows and pounce when the 7800 xt or better comes down to blow out prices. In the last year I have upgraded ram and storage but see no reason to rack up debt at the moment. Thank you for your work.
I like the idea of 'gear acquisition syndrome' - it's definitely a thing. For myself, I always frame this sort of thing in terms of whether it's a want or a need and more often than not it's the former, not the latter.
I just upgraded to a new B550 board with loads of features & to a 5700x3d. My old board just suddenly decided to brick itself, it was a b450. Last NVIDIA GPU was 3080 10GB after that whole debacle of NVIDIA intentionally hobbling their lineups too piece meal marginally better cards when the original should have been much stronger. My honest take the 3080 should have been 12GB - 16GB originally, so my GPU choice after I gave away my 3080 for a gift was AMD or Intel. Picked up XFX 319 Swift RX 6750XT and it is a nice card and if I have too upgrade I have time. Right now GPU wise I may stick with AMD completely due to switching to Linux full time back in April. Honestly the AI stuff most of it can go away for all I care, all it will do is take away resources from the hardware when I don't use it or need it.
You are correct about insufficient VRAM on NVidia 3080 (and others). You knew it, I knew it... everybody knew it, including NVidia! They did it so you were more likely to upgrade sooner. Not a business practice I condone, yet I have NVidia GPUs in my computers. 🤷♂
@@frommatorav1 Honestly the 10 series cards & 3080 are among the best cards NVIDIA has ever made. But anything afterwards is kind of a let down and it is true upgrade every gen instead of every 2 - 5 gens like most people do.
@@Warbob11 I think the 40 series is a letdown, too. With the exception of the 4090, which is great but too expensive and more than I need. I have a RTX 2060 6GB, RTX 3050 8GB, and RTX 3070 OC 8GB. Another computer has a Ryzen 7 5700G APU. The only one that needs upgraded is the 2060 because my daughter games with it. I like the 30 series cards because they work well with Handbrake encoding. I'm not gaming anymore but I needed a decent GPU to go along with my 5900X that I thought I would be gaming with. But I built the computer in early 2022, at the height of the parts shortage and crypto price gouging. The 3070 should have come with 10-12GB VRAM, never mind the 3080 (which should have had 16GB). I "won" the Newegg lottery to get a RTX3070 for around $780, with the purchase of $200 monitor. The RX 6700 had 12GB but the lowest price for it was $925. 3070 was around $1000. 3080 was hundreds more than that. The 3050 8GB was bought at launch for MSRP of $250 because I "won" the lottery again. At least this time I didn't have to bundle. GT1660 cards were selling for that much or more at the time.
@@Warbob11 The 4080 is 45% faster the 3080🤷 it's price to perf is poor...but it is a considerably faster card and will actually work properly at 4K..The 3080 is a 1440P card.
My most recent upgrade was my Ryzen 7 5800X to a Ryzen 9 5900XT (16 core 32 thread cut-down 5950X), only because I needed the 5800X to use in a build with, and for, my girlfriend's daughter. She put the whole thing together with my guidance, and I only stepped in to do the really intricate stuff. She loves this new PC (she was on an old Compaq running god-know-what CPU with Windows 7). I gave her my old RTX 3070 Ti, also. She can do 3D CAD, and usually takes her STL files to the library to print on their 3D printer, so it looks like her Christmas present will be a Creality 3D printer from MicroCenter.
You know what, I've been looking for the past two months at upgrading my 1660 Super to "keep up" and pair it with my new B550 / 5800X build. You've just made up my mind, sod this. I'll upgrade when I have to. Thank you, you should feel better man. Subscribed
Video games don't have enough optimization anymore to have that breakthrough like crysis and battlefield 3 did. Now with frame generation and DLSS optimization is out the window.
Your reasoning is very sound, and very timely. Ever since I built my first PC, I absolutely fell in love with getting a bunch of cool looking boxes, containing cool new things, then putting it together and seeing it work! I've now worked in IT for over 14 years and have had help desk and networking roles, so I'm constantly surrounded by new PC's and network gear coming in for clients. This makes fighting that feeling even harder because I haven't had new parts in some time now. I'm still on an RTX 2070 that a gracious friend got for me during the GPU crisis and I am ever thankful to my friend for doing that. My cpu is still a 3700X that has been serving me well for some years now. 2 years ago I got a new X570 motherboard because my B350 board developed a couple odd problems and it finally got bad enough I reached a point where I just was done putting up with it. I so want to go AM5, and I so want to get a 4070, but honestly...doesn't feel like much of a point in reality... My cpu has not been a problem, and my 2070 still serves me well (though I have been hitting its limits more often as time goes on). I think that GPU crisis really hit home that I need to be thankful for what I have. Today in fact I should be getting my first ultrawide monitor (been wanting one for 5 years now and I'm better off financially than I have been in years so I decided it was time to allow myself to spend $300 on one). It will also be my first monitor that is more than 1080P. In a way, I'm hoping my 2070 can impress me once more, even if it means going to medium settings instead of high, but I am also suspecting I'll be hit with a reality check when one of the newer games I have is set to 3440x1440 (I will attempt 2560x1080 as well but I generally find lowering resolution to be a major disappointment).
Thank you! We need more sensible people trying to help us out. I wanted the new x3d chip but talked myself down cause I have a 7700x and a 4070 ti. After watching this video I will only play my backlogged games and hopefully not build or buy anything till am6 platform. That way hopefully I will see a bit difference and not a miniscule one and end up spending more money than I should. I did however buy a legion go on a black Friday deal from best buy and I am loving it.
the fact that these mini pc's with the 780M can get you by means that if you have a beefy PC you're just clowning yourself with any upgrades. build a NAS or something instead
You mean the Ryzen 8700G? I can't decide because on one hand, that or an 8600G would be great for the small ITX case that's empty after I got a bigger one because I upgraded to an RX6600. On the other hand, it's a lot of money to get (on paper) a system with an RX6400.
@@jochenkraus7016 No I was talking about the stuff from like beelink or minisforum. It's not the best use of $3-500 but the gaming performance is there at particular resolutions and settings.
My motherboard just died so unfortunately ill have to upgrade this year...but i'm keeping things cheap , nothing flashy just stuff that is proven to work well and good. I'm getting an AM4 Board , ill skip AM5...
No question a good decision. If you look how well the 5700/5800X3D stacks up still. And you can go for a DDR-4 Mobo that can use your existing DDR4 RAM!
I really appreciate this. I did upgrade recently because my x99 stuff was being weird, but my GPU is still an rtx6800 and it plays my games just fine, even at ultrawide 1440p. I am glad I checked back in on you a few years ago to get back into tech, but not needing the newest or shiniest stuff to enjoy it. and the use is the more important part of tech not the getting tech.
I would travel a few hours to get a 9800x3d from a 10700k. But...i dont really play modern games often? If i still used handbrake, id consider a 9950x3d. But ive become highly sensitive to compression. So buying server refurb 10tb hard drives for 80$ for backups. leaving them unplugged until i use them. A 4k bluray movie is roughly 50-70gigs on average, so one drive holds 120+ movies..
The 10xxx seriers werent bad in gaming and quite snappy in other software. Remember that you need to change the whole system - Mobo,RAM,CPU to upgrade then. The 9800X3D is certainly the best you can get for gaming and is about as fast as a 13700 in other software except winzip and certain rendering software that lack similar AMD support. But I saw a huge uplift when I changed from a 10 series i7 to a 12 series i9. I think about selling my 13900K right now and also buy a 9800X3D because the Game performance is about 30% higher in almost all new games. I think you will probably get a 50% uplift with that upgrade. The 9950X3D if it has that X3D cache on all cores will be a monster but certainly not cheap! I guess it will cost over 1000$ easily. But you can then sell your 9800X3D on the used market easily and buy that thing later! However if you don't play the newest titles and don't even want to in the future even a 13700 and a H670 Mainboard with the possibility to use your old DDR4 RAM and nave the option to use the support of those eCores for Software other than gaming is a clear winner still, unless you want to wait for the 9950X3D for probably the ultimate powerhorse.
Moved from an i5-4690K & GTX 970 (@1080p) to 7800X3D & 7900XT (@3440x1440) this year, I intend to run this new system for as long as I've been running the previous one, it's been amazing so far!
Yeah similar build to one I went with but went for 7900XTX I totally agree with what this guy is saying all this upscaling stuff is garbage I got a OLED 2k monitor as to me that’s sweet spot for of gaming 4k is overrated as encourages upscaling etc
Recently I start playing Shadow of Mordor and Batman Arkham Knight, it cost me like 3 dollars each on steam. Hours upon hours of games that run buttery smooth on my hardware, and looking better, and sharpen than anything I've played from 2023 or 2024.
Upgrade later when you feel like you have to. Not just because you see a sale. They are going to keep making better P.C parts. So you might as well wait until you need it. Not just want it.
Nice Video I have just purchased Parts here in the UK - Lian Li Mesh II C Performance case, MSI B650 Tomahawk, 9600X CPU, Corsair CX650 PSU, 32GB Crucial DDR5 6000mhz memory, Crucial P3 Plus 2TB NVME, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE Cooler all for just under £700, will be using my current 3060 12GB card initially but plan to upgrade to a 4070 Super or maybe a 5060 in the next 12 months price dependent, can't wait to get it built as upgrading from an Asus Z97 4790 system that's 10 years old lol.
I'm also on a 5900x. Barely noticing that it's "obsolete" during multitasking and heavy workloads. Certainly not during gaming. I won't be replacing it for a very long while.
Damn, I wish you had told me 5 minutes ago..... I just bought a 2 TB Crucial T705 for the best price I've seen at $239. This single drive will upgrade 2 PC's though with a little parts swapping. The fastest drive on the market making 2 PC's even faster for the lowest price I have ever seen. Still think I should have waited? Cheers 🍻
If I ask myself... Can I get gen5 speed now? No Do I need gen5 speed now? No If I'm spending $150 on gen4, is it worth an extra $90 to get the gen5 now to not buy it later? Yes!
I lasted on a sandy bridge build for over a decade. I was able to run what I needed, so I didn’t do a new build until this year. Got an AM5 bundle from Micro Center and it’s been great.
This is my kind of channel. Running r5 3600, 32gb ram, x570 board and some m.2 nvme drives and scored a used 6800xt for 500canadian like 2 years ago. All I have my eyes on now is a 5700x3d to finish off my ultimate am4 setup and that will do me for quite some time. Considering I just fired up half life 1 again and playing through the series....overkill is an understatement for my uses. Also, the music is sick.
Still running my 1st gen Ryzen 1600x and I am happy at the speed it provides considering it's well over 5 years old. I don't think I will need to upgrade for a few more years... Nice thing is when I am done with this, I am going to move it into my server rack and use it for VM's / repurpose it elsewhere.
Wow this guy is still alive? Glad to see this channel is still around! Whatever happened to that weird guy who wore sunglasses all the time and was obsessed with network switches.
You're absolutely right. Many people get so caught up in upgrading due to FOMO that they lose sight of the actual purpose of upgrading. If your current system can play the games you want at medium to high settings, there's no real need to upgrade. You've worked hard for your money, so spend it wisely. For instance, buying a whole new Steam Deck just because an OLED model is available might not be the best use of your resources. If you have extra money to spend, consider supporting your parents, family, or friends, or donating to causes like SYNGAP research, Cancer research, or other charities that make a difference.
My current system: Intel Core i7 7700k, 32 gb ddr4 3200 RX 6750XT. Runs all my games just fine. I do not play anything modern like Hogwarts or starfield.
My 1080Ti can't keep up anymore (gaming on 1440p). So I will upgrade. It is simple as that. And I will buy a Nvidia GPU because I want raytracing. Because it looks awesome. And I want to feel my upgrade as much as possible. All my Nvidia GPUs served me for around 5 years so they are worth their money. Are AMD GPUs as good as Nvidia? Probably but I never had any issue with any Nvidia GPU since my first PC, so I will stay team green haha
they say the next AMD gpus will be way in raytracing. they are always better in gaming power per money and AMD is the better choice at the moment when you consider finally installing Linux
@NidrixGlandda AMD has better Value per money but Nvidia has better value per se. I spend once in 5 years money for a GPU. I want a good one. Nvidia also release their new series soon. And they will be better in anything as well. Nvidia also pushing drivers for Linux. Even frame generation is working. So this is not a valid argument anymore.
@Fuzius262 well, AMD gpus ARE good, but they lack a few features regarding CUDA, AI and stuff. Raytracing and DLSS is better now too, yes. But still, in linux I don't think they are on par yet, but it might be soon (at least it is far better than before)
Nice to see some honesty and common sense on yt. Most of us have huge backlogs.. mine probably good for several lifetimes. 5960X 64GB and until recently a 980 Ti and still playing everything I want to.
Yeah sounds impossible, yet with Maria Luisa Clare, I've come to the conclusion that financially anything is possible. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend and a whooping $320k in savings already, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in debt then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Maria L Clare is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!
my 12700k/3080 rig is all I need for now, using an ultrawide (3440x1440) monitor. I set the card to run @ 100fps and every game I own runs flawlessly and looks great. This will be the first GPU that I won't replace after 18 months or so. There's just no need. Since this gaming rig is also my source for music, I might get another NVMe drive for hi-res music files.
Great video, I have the 5900x right now. I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon. To be fair, I bought the 4090 for my system, and that's the end of the line due to the PCIE 4 limits. I bought a LG C4 42 inch TV due to HDMI 2.1 limitations. I'll wait for HDMI 2.2 or DP 2.1 (full bandwidth) for the next upgrade.
My last build, which I still have, is 11 years old, 4770k, I'm still using it. I'm gonna retire in 5 years, so this build I'm doing now, with a 12700kf, will be my last build before I retire. Nope sure what's gonna happen when 60 hits me. Been doing computing for 35 years.
You saved me from thinking my first pc needs to be anything fancy. I have a backlog of 10 year old games I’ve been wanting to play, and I’m moving over from couch/console to desk/pc.
Logan, can you explain why 4k on 27” monitor is silly? Wouldn’t a higher pixel density reduce the need for antialiasing? I’m gaming on a 15,6” laptop with a 1440p display and I would like greater pixel density. Game optimization >> DLSS
The scaling makes the whole thing ridiculous. Far too many people focus on pixel density... there needs to be a happy medium and for the moment, I find that users of this type of screen are doing things a little wrong
*For some reason you're the only tech guy that i watch... I dont even watch Linus or MKBHD anymore because i feel like they lost something important...*
Maybe I'm a little extreme but I'm still pretty much satisfied with my i7-6700 and my GTX 1070. Yeah, I usually don't play brand new games and sometimes I lock my fps to 30 or I don't play on native resolution, but for me It's totally fine.
My wife and I went from X79 and X58 to AM4. The need to upgrade is very over-rated. Unless there is actually a reason. We are at the point in computer history were that's really NOT necessary.
I have 3 main PCs, one for me and every member of my family. In mine I have a 13700K/4090 my nephew has an 8700K/2080ti and my mother has an 8700/GTX 780. I also have 2 working spare PCs. The one that's used as a media server has a 3770K/1080ti and the living room PC has a 2500K/RX480.
My AMD AM4 motherboard is 6 years old. I have an RX 6900XT with a Ryzen 5800X, both I got cheap in past years. 32GB RAM. 2x 2TB NVMe SSD. I game at 1440p ultra wide, mostly older games because it's what I enjoy. I won't need to upgrade anything for years. I will use this system until the wheels fall off.
Thanks Tek. I'm late to this video but after resisting the urge on black friday, yet still browsing hard looking for something in particular, all the algorithms have me pegged right now pushing things I don't need but are right in the impulse purchase price range. I'm holding fast and sticking to hacking on old tech for a while longer because it's nerdy fun and I don't need an out of the box perfect brand new experience with anything right now. Neither does my bank balance. Maybe if I had less time on my hands I'd want to buy something that Just Works, but why? when I can make ancient tech live again and get real dopamine for my efforts instead of buying some new crap that almost does what I want but still ends up being a compromise. The void I'm trying to fill in my life isn't going to get any emptier no matter how much brand new stuff I buy to throw into it.
YT did something good and recommend this video to me. This has got to be the best worded advice I've heared; "if you cant play the game you want at the resolution you want; consider upgrading". Perfect! Literally just bought my wife and I 7900XT's. I was going to wait for the new announcements in January. But then I remembered that scalpers will have all the stock for several months, so why wait? 🤷♂️
I probably really needed this 😂. Sim racer here with 7800x3d and 4080oc... I did actually recently upgrade the wheelbase to a Simagic Alpha 15nm, but that was for my 40th birthday (made it into something to be happy about)
Only ‘upgraded’ because i needed an ITX system because i was moving overseas and wanted to take my computer with me, otherwise i’d still be rocking my 4790k and just add more storage tbh. Gpu might need upgrading soon but by that point 30/40 series cards would be much more practical cost-wise.
Drums sound a bit stiff but good tune! If you did this in FL studio maybe try adding a bit of swing to the drum track. Forget off the top of my head how that’s done.
When has being a PC hardware enthusiast been about getting by and playing games on medium settings? Imagine asking a guy with a tuned up Mustang why he would drive that car when it takes you the same amount of time to get to work in a Prius. It's just a hobby like any other. People enjoy building overkill gaming PCs with fancy cooking solutions that don't have any significant impact on the actual real-world performance and that much was true even before mirrors edge came out.
100% Agree. My PC: 1st Gen i7 Extreme, 16GB RAM, GTX 750Ti. The thing is Bulletproof. It was a new build minus the CPU. The PC is close to 15 years old. I'm really Old-Skool so there's no need for me to chase the "Latest & Greatest" in PC Tech. I'm running Windows 7 and have XP & 98 boxed on my shelf. I like to have 100% control of my OS. 60fps gaming at 1080p is easily good enough for me.
I am on a Ryzen 5 5600 and RX 7600. I am good for another 5 years at least. Need a new phone though. My Asus Zenfone 4 max is on Android 8, it's a 2017 phone. Some of my apps, like banking, don't support Oreo. Still a great phone though. Oh and I also have a system with a Saphire Radeon RX 580 and Ryzen 4600G, love that system for WoW and POE and my GOG games, Diablo2 and 3. Not a power gamer. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition I think it makes a good difference. Also Cyberpunk 2077, but I don’t even like that game.
RT does look good, but the performance tax is not worth it to me. Nvidia does it better, but my favorite is just to leave it off.
Feels like my 6700xt is a 1080p card. Could be because of my 3600 non x but im getting the same performance at 1440p compared to 1080p like palworld and first descendent. So I might as well just stay on my decent 1080p monitor. The 1440p monitor I have is shit.
Control does a good job as well. There's some others too but ya RTX needs some artistry help as well not just slap it on a box.
The whole RT propaganda is why I haven't bothered upgrading my GPU. I don't care about super accurate lighting. I want the game to run smoothly and the lighting to look believable. It doesn't need to be 100% realistic.

The difference between generations of graphics cards used to be noticeable - now it is not. No one is "missing out" by buying the newest graphics cards.

You do need to by the best you can afford that's the point. People use argument like I won't spend 50% more money to get 25% better performance.

Your music is awesome. Takes me back to better days.
While pooping I got the thought of getting a 5070ti to upgrade from 7800xt, but that would probably cost like 1300 dollars. Having a place to poop is better than a new gpu.

Lol
4K should be 46 inches, it is no harder to run and it looks AMAZING!
Sound advice for sure. My 5900x/6800xt still do the job just fine for the games I play. I will wait in the shadows and pounce when the 7800 xt or better comes down to blow out prices.

The 3050 8GB was bought at launch for MSRP of $250 because I "won" the lottery again. At least this time I didn't have to bundle. GT1660 cards were selling for that much or more at the time.

My most recent upgrade was my Ryzen 7 5800X to a Ryzen 9 5900XT (16 core 32 thread cut-down 5950X), only because I needed the 5800X to use in a build with, and for, my girlfriend's daughter.
Great advice. Hopefully people don't get fooled into upgrading when they don't have to.

Cheers 🍻
Y do u need the fastest ssd 👁️ 👄 👁️
If I ask myself...
Can I get gen5 speed now? No
Do I need gen5 speed now? No
If I'm spending $150 on gen4, is it worth an extra $90 to get the gen5 now to not buy it later? Yes!
I lasted on a sandy bridge build for over a decade. I was able to run what I needed, so I didn’t do a new build until this year. Got an AM5 bundle from Micro Center and it’s been great.
Trent Reznor giving good PC advice in 2024.
Trent doesn't look like this anymore.
I'm still waiting till AMD drops the next cards. I love my RX 6800 and 5800x.
You saved me the anguish of buying something with the money I don't have
You're absolutely right.
I'm Just waiting on the RTX 5000 series cards to drop, so that I can buy a used RTX 4080 at a discount on Ebay. 😄
I'll die on that hill with you.
4k @ 27"... older OSs that don't magnify the GUI by 200% would be a challenge to read, I imagine.
Still have GTX 1080 with a 5820k I built back in 2013, I can play modern still like Black Ops 6 but with low settings lol.
I'm feeling really motivated.
Could you share some details about the bi-weekly topic you brought up?
Yeah sounds impossible, yet with Maria Luisa Clare, I've come to the conclusion that financially anything is possible. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend and a whooping $320k in savings already, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in debt then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Maria L Clare is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!
Wow 😱 I know her too!
Miss Maria Luisa Clare is a remarkable individual whom has brought immense positivity and inspiration into my life.
I got started with a miserly $1500. The results have been mind blowing I must say TBH!!
my 12700k/3080 rig is all I need for now, using an ultrawide (3440x1440) monitor. I set the card to run @ 100fps and every game I own runs flawlessly and looks great. This will be the first GPU that I won't replace after 18 months or so. There's just no need. Since this gaming rig is also my source for music, I might get another NVMe drive for hi-res music files.
Upgrade everything even your wife
lol
Great video, I have the 5900x right now. I don't feel the need to upgrade anytime soon. To be fair, I bought the 4090 for my system, and that's the end of the line due to the PCIE 4 limits. I bought a LG C4 42 inch TV due to HDMI 2.1 limitations. I'll wait for HDMI 2.2 or DP 2.1 (full bandwidth) for the next upgrade.
I don’t pay for windows keys
ideally, don't use Windows at all!
Neither do I. Linux.
Games have been looking worse, and getting harder to run. Just look at the new stalker. 4070 and 32gb of ram, and it still needs dlss to target 60fps.
Yes, it's true.
You saved me from thinking my first pc needs to be anything fancy. I have a backlog of 10 year old games I’ve been wanting to play, and I’m moving over from couch/console to desk/pc.
But my Rx580 is getting old
Get another RX580 for cheap SH and run Crossfire ;)
PS: Tooottaaally no-biased opinion from someone who for sure doesn't still run 2x RX580s
Mine as well. ^^
RX 480 here goin strong
@@agenda697 It's the same-ish card; -5%
You got me convinced. Im staying with my 1050 Ti for another 6 years
Maybe I'm a little extreme but I'm still pretty much satisfied with my i7-6700 and my GTX 1070.
I'm just over here, renting out those shovels Nvidia makes. 🥳🥳🥳
The void I'm trying to fill in my life isn't going to get any emptier no matter how much brand new stuff I buy to throw into it.
been watching since you were talking about running modded skyrim on a 780Ti --always glad i stuck around
I've been living this advice for a very long time.
6:30 Just look at NFS 2015. We've already reached photo realism long ago.
I miss the days when artificial intelligence meant a blonde dyeing her hair.
the only upgrade I did was more storage and more RAM, that is it. (80€ total for 1TB storage and 32GB of RAM, that is a good deal imo)
Just because new stuff comes out does not mean that "old" stuff is bad.
Thank you for the video, it is a bit tough pill to swallow because we have to be honest wit ourselves :D
Appreciate you, Logan! Cheers!
Thanks for the video, loved your analysis and take on things. I've been a gamer in high school, started taking computer classes at community college last semester and getting back into the gaming world. Your analysis on the tech side of things is also incredibly helpful from the gaming / technical standpoint. New subscriber and will definitely watch more of your videos.
I'm not into live service games, I actually came here because I am getting my network + and I was trying to watch someone else make cat 5e cables, its crazy how things happen sometime.
I upgraded from a 6700xt to a 7900xt so I can play maxed out in my WQHD monitor. It also lets me put my 6700xt in my HTPC so I can play my racing games at 4k without much compromise or needing to stream. Then sell my RTX 3050.
I've been planning this for months, not because someone sold me a dream over the last week. Was planning on the 7900gre until the 7900xt dropped to $790cad ($565 USD).
Upgrade when you want or need to, not to have the newest and shiniest thing. Always been my mantra.
