Both really nice cars - would be difficult to choose if it came down to it! I think I like the Lexus a bit more aesthetically but like the performance of the Infiniti more. I'd probably lean towards the IS just because it is a Lexus and should be very reliable.

From what I heard, Infiniti's new infotainment system is VERY glitchy and takes a long time to load once making a selection. That's a problem, since the climate controls are on the lower screen. I do agree that the Infiniti does have the nicer interior, but the refreshed 2017 Lexus IS has a nicer interior than the pre-refresh model.

+Lumineux Umbreon My father bought one of the first Q50's in Florida when it came out in 2014, and that car's infotainment system was very laggy indeed. He upgraded to a 2016 Q50 Red Sport a few months ago and it has greatly improved. It seems to me that they've fixed most issues revolving around it.
It's 2016, and Lexus still can't get turbocharged engines right, what a shame.
It seems like it hurt them so much to just fully give Infiniti it’s props. U could tell they really wanted Lexus to be the better car.

Wow! Surprised not that Infiniti did so well but that Lexus did poorly. Lexus quality has always been the great. Highway driving always smooth. But they need to up their game when it comes to driving dynamics. Its 2016 and there is significant turbo lag. Inexcusable.

This are both great cars, the Infiniti has a more attractive interior and exterior, while the Lexus is easily the more reliable car once you get over the 100k mark.
The Q50 2.0T does not come equipped with the Direct Adaptive Steering system from Infiniti. I am not sure how you can make a comment on the steering not feeling "real." The one that was demonstrated has an actual steering column. As all conventional non-technological cars have.

Sorry Roman! I'm pretty sure that the 2.0t is NOT available with the Direct Adaptive Steer. You were driving a traditional power steering model. I owned a 2014 3.7; I agree, it was a terrible system. I much preferred the old G37 setup.

Indeed, but as you probably ken till now, their gear changing abilities do lack enormously. Which one would you rather, though? Oh, and I have finished my exams, results are due on 11th of July ... Hopefully we've done alright!
Nik Brudar The majority of US car presenters do seem to struggle with the idea of changing up and down when going through the twisty bits. I've always quite liked Lexus cars, but I'm not keen on either of these models.

MrKeyboardCommando It's hard to comprehend why they choose automatics, but then again, their straight endless roads are fairly tedious already, so why not make them even more boring with an omission of having to change gears, press the clutch pedal, think etc. and rather focus on by far the most important thing while driving - texting.

Love the Lexus ! Looks like nothing else on the road. Amazing design. Good race but like they said better would do better the Lexus would def do better with a better driver.
Props to Lexus for building their own turbo engine and not out sourcing to another brand. Also props to the Lexus for great driving feel. The steering system on the Infiniti is a no go. One thing that did confuse me was the less powerful Infiniti being faster.. It could be due to the Lag in the Lexus Turbo engine.

I drove a q50 with that steer by wire system for a couple days, and really put it through it's paces. Just about the only thing i didn't like with the car was the steering. It was obviously programmed to make the car feel really sporty when driving/cornering casually. But, when the car actually is pushed hard in the corners it becomes obvious that steering wheel isn't connected to the wheels: just a vague, disconnected feeling. The two older G35's that i have owned have far superior steering for both casual and aggressive driving. I will not be buying any Infiniti cars with steer by wire.
Lexus target is towards luxury and comfort not powerful and performance.

its amazing that they opted to put a 2.0T in the Infiniti, you can tell how much less power it has compared to the 3.7L. I wouldn't trade my G37 unless it was for the 3.0T but even that can be debatable since you would be going from NA to Turbo.

The amount of actual influence that Vettel actually had on tuning the Infiniti, probably not that much. Whatever happened to that Vettel edition Infiniti FX50? Nobody ever seems to have reviewed one. I guess they were released, they had a big press thing about it, then I never saw one reviewed or advertised for sale.

The IS does not share the chassis with Toyota mainstream cars. That chassis is shared only with the Lexus GS and RC (and to some degree, the RCF).
Rod H. : Its the same thing. Lexus is a vamped up version with more competitive options within its market. Were talking about reliability though, if thats what someones looking for, the Camry XLE V6 model is suitable. Most people that can afford a new lexus can afford its upkeep, maintenance and dont really care about reliability since they're somewhat wealthier than the common person...

I would pick the q50 because of the looks, it really doesn't have a bad angle Lexus will probably last longer but the people who buy these cars could care less about longevity and more about driving fun

Honestly go for a basic tune for 350-500 and you'll have more power, less lag, and better throttle response

The Q50 without the sport package looks terrible in my eyes. The IS...the predator grille is an acquired taste.
I still think the Cadillac ATS & especially the new Jaguar XE beats them both. Yet still they are all cheaper than the Germans.

It will have both a standard electronic steering and optional steer by wire. Some packages will include the steer by wire.
You guys should switch cars between the two test drivers, get another result and do an average... :)

This Lexus looks weird.
If you buy a Lexus, you can expect to get one of the best road cars in the world: comfortable, lush, a little bit fun, adequate power, reliable, good efficiency, high resale value.
But buying a Infiniti, you aren't getting the best of anything: not the most comfy, not the most powerful, not the fastest, not the most fun, not the most reliable, not the most attractive, etc. It just doesn't shine on the road, race tracks, or car meets.
If one really wants fun and reliability, lease a better drivers' car and own a practical road/family car.

I always thought that the direction on the track where the Lexus went for the stopping test has a bit of a downhill grade to it; Why didn't you stop-test both cars in the same direction? Seems to be the way to go, no?
We do it both ways and show the lesser distance.

+Jeff K that 3.0T would be on the IS350 instead. It makes no sense because BMW 328i has a 2.0T with 240hp 255 lb-ft torque 0-60 5.5 second. Same with Mercedes c300 and Audi A4 but the Lexus does it in 7.5 second, they all weight around the same too so IS200T is a waste of money.

I never understood why the Lexus is so slow. The 328i with the same power rating is significantly quicker.
Take into account that BMW notoriously underrates their power outputs. And the 3 series is probably lighter, not sure.
Best car like this for a 2.0T is the 228i.

Lexus performance has never been that great in general especially for the comparative price. Heck, the up coming Lexus LC is supposed to get about 4.4 second 0-6 for 100k+, the new Infiniti Q50 Red Sport does the same 0-60 for more than half the cost. Of course, that new Lexus LC Is pretty sexy!
Though I feel the best bang for your buck out of these all is the Q50 Hybrid, gets 0-60 between 4.6-4.9 seconds, for 49k and you get 30mpg average.
That is the LC's base engine, compare that to a BMW 640i and MB S550 coupe, I'd say it's pretty good. Later on there will be an LC-F which is supposed to have 600hp+, I'm sure that will be a beast.
Heyu Yoma The LFA was a beast. The IS-F was ok. The RC-F and GS-F are well they have a V8. Lexus still makes smooth, refined, high quality vehicles, but that doesn't mean they can't have sporty vehicles. Journalist and everyone who drove it said the GS is one of the best handling vehicles in its class. I will agree the RC-F and GS-F aren't up to par with the competition, but with the LC I feel Lexus has gotten there act together. Especially with these new turbocharged and supercharged engines.
Both models are reliable, luxury and decent japanese automobile. The choice of people will depends on design.
IS is heavier, slower, thirstier and it has a huge turbo lag.
