  • We do a short review on the new 2016 IS200t. Gone is the IS250 and less powerful 2.5L V6. The new Turbo motor makes more power, and is light on it's feet. But we take a look at a few of the issues and more.
    Since we already have a long format review on the IS350, consider this a test of a shorter review format.

    I love my BMW....but I might just pull the trigger on this one because I want the long term reliability. That 7-10 year reliability that Lexus and Toyota have is just unmatched.

      kikyoass 7-10 year?? My bros Toyota Solara is 15 years old, my Lexus ES330 is 12 years old, and my moms Land Cruiser is 13 years old. All cars are still going strong, and the interiors have held up phenomenally. The Land Cruiser has 255,000 miles on it. These cars will go for 20+ years. My neighbor has an ‘89 Lexus LS400 as his daily driver. That makes it almost 30 years old.

      Go for it, you won’t regret it. I walked away from a Cadillac STS 2007 V8 to a GS 350 2013. The power, luxury, and handling is way better than the Cadillac i used to have. Both cars have the same fuel capacity with a 17.4 gallan fuel tank and the GS as expected is much better on fuel. Not to mention the 0 to 60 is much quicker on the GS compred to the Cadillac because of less weight. Overall, I am pleased with it.

    With your heavy criticism on this car, you'fe just managed to delete all my doubts about the 2.0 liter turbo engine. I drive a GS 300h and I'm looking for a coupé that won't make my heart race and pound (my former coupé was a 2008 Honda Civic Type-R - I live in Europe), as well as not drown my ears in engine noise. I need a silent, comfortable, refined coupé with power in the mid range.

    I own this car, the turbo lag is not that bad. It's only bad if you're in eco mode and try to floor it from a start. But then again, why would you do that to begin with? I love this car so much, beats any BMW or Mercedes I've ever owned already.

    • @last9up
      @last9up 4 года назад

      I have this car and did just that to see how the turbo lag felt, it's noticeable but not bad. Just don't do it often.

    I don’t understand why almost everyone that does a review on this vehicle try to put it down with the same frase... “this is not a sport car”. We Own Lexus vehicles, we know! How bout start your videos with “this is what f sport means... it means it has upgrades from regular 200t”

      Lexus IS is "so refined it makes no sense on the track". That's all it is to call out it isn't going to roar and get bumpy, the viseral senses typically associated with sports notes

    I love the looks of this car. I wasn't so sure at first but I really do like it. I don't like the fact that there isn't any initial power when you first step on it. There's nothing worse then when you pull out into heavy traffic and your car doesn't move. Grrr!

    Awesome car.
    A great blend of luxury and performance it can do both without any sacrifices. The fact you can drive it on the track and take it on a back road is great. I think it looks damn good I honestly think it the best designed car in its class in person its a really pretty looking car with a great interior. That delay on take off should be addressed
    Like the conclusion in this video I also think its the best car to buy out of the class of car. You get a extremely well engineered car, Lexus luxury, a great chassis with a engine that will be dead reliable.

    Great Video, agree with a lot of what you mentioned about the Is200t, Lexus driver since newly redesigned is350. I bought a IS350 F Sport AWD, because I live in Chicago and definitely need the AWD. I think it's a great buy, yes main reason I purchased that car because of reliability and design, inside and out. Need something different past cars include vw, bmw, Mercedes, cost of those were ridiculously overpriced but that's just my opinion, and my pocket. Thanks for the video!!! Just subscribed

      +Chris Park When I was helping my parents to shop for a new car last year we looked into the NX and the IS, and at the lexus dealer I asked the guy that was helping us if they are ever going to put the turbo engine from the NX in the IS. He told us that many people asked about it, and there is a chance that it is going to happen but nothing was confirmed. I did that with all the other brands we looked into, all their answers were a bit vague with the upcoming changes. I can understand that maybe they don't want to be held accountable if things ended up been different, but either way with that information we knew that maybe we should wait and see.
      Now my parents wants to wait for the new Mazda CX-9 for some reason. It's been almost a year since we started shopping, and honest to god, manufactures needs to slow the fuck down. At the rate they are pumping out new models and updates, I don't know when my parents are going to actual settle for something.
      tl;dr: It is always a good idea to ask the dealer about any upcoming changes for the models you are interested in.

    • @12345bobjr
      @12345bobjr 8 лет назад +2

      3air For reals, they come out with new models of cars faster than phones. But dealerships never know jack shit. They dont even know the suspension type in the cars that they are selling. Im sure thats not the case with every single dealership across the US but every dealer I've been to, I knew more than the salesman.

    • @NBASFAN
      @NBASFAN 8 лет назад

      +Chris Park that's very true, but can you sell a car? How many customers walk in everyday and not buying a car. How many cars are you selling, how many is in the store. Which cars on the train here. Where's the manager that decides the bargain. How much time do you have everyday to study every car and how many hours are you on the job busying with the paperwork that seems endless. Why do your brand never let you know which new cars coming. How many hours after work can you spend with your family. How many douchebags think they know more about cars and never been on a track, or worse, never seen the interior of the car they want. Why do you even bother trying to explain to customers who's just "looking".

    • @NBASFAN
      @NBASFAN 8 лет назад +3

      +Chris Park one last thing. They come out with new cars because you complained about the old one. They came out because there are competitions. They came out because you like new things. They came out because they know your a sucker for new engines that "refined". All of these cars you see comes out a fraction of a cost from their factory. People need jobs. Factory need jobs. Sales need jobs. Everybody need jobs.

    I've driven both the IS250 & IS350 F-sport. If I was getting an IS it would have to be a IS350; the 2.5 V6 is just bad.
    However like Savage noted the IS350 feels heavy, something I didn't feel in the Cadillac ATS I tested shortly after.
    I'm curious how the IS200t compares to the ATS 2.0T.

      Yes old Devilles aren't champions of reliability but the 07~14 CTS have a strong reliability record. If Audi can now top Consumer Reports' reliability records (which in 2000 was beyond terrible), I willing to bet on Cadillac in the near future,

    lexus needs to give people a 6 spd manual. there will always be that one guy that will buy it. it actually costs less to make one and put it in than to just put in that automatic unit. at least just make 5% of sales manual for this one, GSF and RCF as well. such great cars, but without a true manual, its pointless.

    • @boboutelama5748
      @boboutelama5748 6 лет назад

      What is pointless ? Making better cars with better fuel economy ?
      Try to stopwatch your gear shifting. The speed between you and an automatic gearbox can't be compaired. The time you loose is lost momentum that need to be re-accelerated.
      You are mourning a dead horse. There will be less and less of those around until they disappear.

      randikalakmal im sorry i stopped listening after fwd. Its call winter tires. I daily my rwd coupe in wisconsin with winter tires no problem. fwd is terrible plow. DI is unreliable as the blow back creates all types of problems. Ask any BMW owner about di. That is after they unpark there car from taking up to spots and take off there sunglasses to acknowledge you. I mean it sounds like an ES350 would be perfect for you. That is fwd and di. What is tge problem?

    I'm getting this car tomorrow, so I been watching every review known to man up here lol.
    My situation is different because due to a TBI, I have a highway driving restriction. This and the Kia were top of pack with safety features like blind spots, parking, lane assist, etc. Most of the incidents I had driving after my injury I did myself.
    I love that you said the car give you confidence. I wait until all cars pass before I change lanes lol.
    Now my dad got the navigation package but my nuvi GPS is top of the line, free unlimited lifetime map updates, and have real traffic reports. The salesman said GPS in cars are not real time, but they real people to help you . Salesman said first year GPS service is free, so I guess I can use them if I get turned around, but my GPS does that already.

      Hello, after a few hiccups I finally have the car!!! Question though. Is there any way to get parking cam added after modifications? Is it even offered on this car? I have the blind spot monitor, sensors, and back up cam, but the P button beside the blind spot button is plastic. I REALLY WANTED that feature. Its pretty different parking especially if no handicap parking spots are available. I also have to get used to the petals because they are slimmer and closer then in my previous car so I have to focus on my footing. My dad going to see if they can move my left foot petal away from the gas a little. The foot rest on the left side makes a tight squeeze for my left foot petal.
      It may be me, but if you have any suggestions on the parking

    Man, you weren't kidding. It's so friggin quiet. That motor is really ironed out. Really low redline too. Do you think it's one of those maxed out eco turbo-4 motors that has no potential for more power and performance?

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 лет назад +1

      I think because of the overall design, liquid intercooler and DI/port injection this motor is going to stay mostly where it's at as it was designed for smoothness and effficiency. I don't see it being dumped in a small sports car. It would be interesting to see it in a car 700lbs lighter. Maybe it would fit in FT1? It's definately their luxury eco motor for now.

  • @splewy
    @splewy 8 лет назад

    That 1st gear sluggishness you described probably had something to do with the torque converter. Did you try brake torquing it? A lot of those automatics that were designed with smoothness as a priority seem to have a lot of initial slop. They quickly rev up to their stall speed and then take forever to actually start transmitting power.
    It could have also been the fault of throttle programming. It might limit throttle blow a certain speed to take some of those high initial loads off of the drive train parts.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 лет назад +1

      Brake tqing just did nothing. It definately feels programing and maybe trans related. Ton of slop.

    Savagegeese....I am in a dilemma here and I need your advice. Currently I am looking for a new car and I have picked out 2 cars for that matter. A mazda 6 touring or a Lexus IS 200t F sport. Now, I am not after power but all I care for is handling and steering feel. I do not drive aggressively and neither do I plan to take my car on a track so I do not need to worry about RWD or FWD here. What I plan to do with my car is just normal city and highway driving. My question is ...between these 2 cars which would be most fun to drive when considering body roll, steering feel when going on a straight highway and maintaing speed when taking highway exits. ....now this might be the most stupid question but I would highly appreciate your response. Thanks a lot.

      Vastly different cars. The Lexus is the better car, but you pay a lot more for that. RWD and overall refinement of the Lexus including sporty feeling. The 6 however has more space, better fuel economy, much more simple overall including likely cost of ownership. The 6 is more visceral because it has cabin noise and you get a manual trans option. But if you want a more solid sporty feeling (smaller car) its the IS200t.

    so basically you'll need to change tires every year? for some decent 18 inch performance tires, that's like as much expense in tires as in gas

      +Honey Lam Just change what tires you put on after you have to change them the first time. I would maybe ask the dealership to switch them with some different rubber if I was buying the car new.

    How come Japanese car nowadays are less powerful and fuel efficient than euros? like the 330i from bmw makes less hp but faster 0-60 and much better fuel economy on paper, there are many more examples but the 330i and is200t is just one of them

    • @SpaghettiKillah
      @SpaghettiKillah 6 лет назад +4

      RaphaelYC because they're tuned to last longer. Japanese cars go for reliability 1st and foremost rather than bhp and other stuff.
      You can get 900 bhp out of a 2.0 Lt engine if you want...but it will last A LOT less.
      Each car fits different people/needs. I had a Toyota...now I drive an E Class.
      Both amazing cars for their value and what they do.

    • @boboutelama5748
      @boboutelama5748 6 лет назад +1

      European cars use thinner parts everywhere. Allowing to make the car lighter. Because they are not meant to live over 150k miles, it is not relevant.
      Those specific japanese cars are the last of their breed of "Cars made to last", and this require thicker steels and bulkier parts, everywhere. If you add those tiny weights, component by component, they will always be a few houndred pounds heavier.
      FOr the fuel efficiency, we just had Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen that where caught red handed, cheating on their emissions. BMW was already caught for vastely under estimating their fuel consumption datas. So, as you can see, there is also a problem here. Maybe Lexus could overpass the fabricated numbers of the germans with a little bit of imagination, but they will not go on this terrain.

    Nothing like building a sports car and putting a rev limiter in it. It might not be so annoying if you stopped revving the motor until it falls on its face every time.

    My girlfriend wanted me to choose between IS200t, IS350, C300, or 328i for her. I personally drive an E46 325i. So I went ahead and test drove all of the above, and I liked the interior and overall design of lexus more. But guess what, exactly like the reviewers pointed, there is a lag when you wanna accelerate, and believe me its not only in launch, its basically every time you press the throttle, there will be a couple of seconds of no action. I thought that was pretty unimpressive, and went with 328i, now the 328i really does show the power of turbos. It's got this very refined drive train compared to the lexus.

    About the 140 treadwear... Hmm... I don't trust Bridgestone treadwear ratings IMO. They are all over the place. No way the RE71R is really 200 treadwear for example. For example the RE050A was rated at 140 but is a much, much harder tyre than the RE71R.

    I hate this car. It probably has 300 pounds worth of sound deadening in it. It is the main reason why there has been such a leash on the FRS/BRZ.
    The t4 seems to have good top end. Something almost all the other t4's lack. I would have zero fear about owning one for 10 years. To little to late. The original Is should have been a 2800 pound turbo 4 instead of the 3200 pound v6 powered pillow we got in the states.

    This engine should have been given to the toyota/scion brands, the highest ranks of course like the high end xrs corolla to the "cheap" avalon and the only scion should have been the TC with the new face lift. and different tunes, for the corolla it should be a 200ish tune, avalon a 210-215 and for the tc it should have been a 235-250. and then the lexus brand should have been v6 real small displacement and single or twin turbos. I really hate that my favorite brand of car is soo behind on the trends and power to weight in respects to performance.

    Still would have a BMW 320i over this. I know people might think that the 200t really competes with the 328i, it just doesn't. Look at the performance figures of the BMW 320i and 328i and you'll realize that the 320i is just as fast if not faster than this is200t and the 328i is as fast as the is350.
