    4:03 Judging from the boost meter when you floored it, it looks like the turbo spooled up really quickly. It seemed like most of the delay there was waiting for the automatic transmission to downshift a couple gears.

    Having went from a Saab 9-3 to a IS350 I don't see the big deal with the 6.9 0-60. The saab I owned I had got 6.8. Now when I went from the Saab to the Lexus it didn't feel like a huge power difference despite the nearly 2 second 0-60 difference. The reason being is that the 350 has a very linear smooth torque curve. When the turbo spooled in the saab it felt like a freight train. The saab wasnt a dig monster like the 350, but from a roll, it could mean business. The point of this car isn't solely about performance so don't take it as such and quoting a 0-60 run like its gospel. On top of all this, the 250 was slower so it has been upgraded. Take everything with a grain of salt because I'm certain this would be a great all round car.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  7 лет назад

      Exactly, Matt Surratt. And the lag is more than likely not a big deal for most people, but because this IS 200t is such a sporty looking vehicle, there may be some buyers who are a little more hardcore and are looking for a more hardcore sports sedan. They'd definitely want to know about the lag. We assume your wife is enjoying her car, because it is definitely a looker! Thank your for your comments and for watching, too!

      I have the same car in white and the lag is the only lag that I don’t like. Overall it’s comfortable and fun to drive. Also on 1st or 2nd gear when driving really slow, transmission jolts in a weird way sometimes which worries me

  • @kiwiasian
    @kiwiasian 7 лет назад

    Glad a reviewer made a point of talking about the turbo lag cos it's really bad when combined with an auto transmission. Some people feel they should have stuck with a 6 speed auto for the 200T to compensate for the lag. 350 is much better when putting around.

    I like the honesty in your reviews, you don't sugarcoat everything like some other reviewers. Turbo lag at this price point, is not acceptable to me. I like this car, but this powertrain is a deal breaker. I would get another motor.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 лет назад +1

      Thank you, pedro fernandez. Some people like to bash certain cars just for the heck of it. We try to identify the pros and cons of the vehicles we test and our viewers, as well as the manufacturers, appreciate that.
      With regards to the turbo lag, unfortunately that is a common trait no matter the price range of the vehicle, but it is more evident on performance-oriented vehicles due to the expected quicker throttle response. This is why some companies, such as Porsche, have used twin turbo setups. In those configurations, a small turbo spins up faster at low rpm to provide quick initial power, then a larger turbo takes over at the higher rpms, eliminating lag while still providing good top end power. You'll notice a lot more cars using turbocharged engines now because they give us more power out of smaller engines and better fuel economy to meet CAFE regulations, but we also have to deal with the lag that accompanies them. We appreciate you, pedro fernandez.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  8 лет назад +6

      We think Lexus is still trying to tow the line between sports sedan and luxury sedan. The closer you inch toward one, the further you go from the other. Not to mention, they have to keep fuel economy in mind, too, which is why we're seeing these smaller engines from the brand. Lexus figures that if consumers want more power, they can buy one of their V8-engined cars. Right now, though, a lot of buyers have been enjoying the current mix that Lexus has to offer, so we don't think we'll see changes any time soon, unless people don't buy the 200t. We appreciate your comments, NickLiang. Thanks for watching!

    • @PlatinumSan
      @PlatinumSan 8 лет назад +1

      The IS200t is a lot heavier, has a lower redline and taller gear ratios. All these makes the IS200t a lot slower in a straight line.

    • @NickLiang
      @NickLiang 8 лет назад

      ***** Wow thank you for the profound view! Considering they made the 200T for those who wanted a more sporty experience in their line up of IS, it is rather underwhelming at 7s. They already have a hybrid for those mpg conscious customer.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  7 лет назад +1

      NickLiang Well, again, we believe that the 200T is more for better fuel economy averages across the brand than for the sporty car experience, even though the IS 200T is sporty. But if we truly knew the answer, we'd be making way more money. Oh, well. Thanks for watching!

      The velocity, unfortunately, is relative, Omar Imad. It depends upon what you are used to. If you're coming from a 2002 Corolla, this car will feel fast. However, if you're coming from a 1989 Mustang GT, not so much. We say don't worry too much about it. Just take the opportunity to test drive one before you buy, when you get the chance. Omar Imad Coming from a Prado, even though the IS 200t doesn't have the low-end grunt of the 350, it'll feel more lively than what you're used to and will definitely be more fun to drive on curvy roads. As we mentioned before, take one for a test drive to be sure. Good luck and comment back on here if you get one. We'd love to hear your thoughts!
