    My drive did this today. Hoping that this is all it needs. Still dumping the drive just in case it is not the issue.
    Also, that license is probably attached to a GUID/UUID key that is generated when a drive is formatted. The GUID/UUID can sometimes also be refreshed when a drive is cloned. However, some cloning softwares (such as GParted) allow you to manually set the GUID/UUID, so as long as you make note of your original GUID/UUID, you can then replace the newly generated GUID/UUID with the old one and most licenses tied to it will continue to function.

    Thank you so much for the video! Unfortunately my 980 pro gave out before I found this video. I’m glad there’s hope to recovering the data! My drive that failed was my primary boot drive, and thankfully I was able to get another 2tb drive. I haven’t able to successfully clone the old drive so that the new drive would be able to boot into windows as it did on the read only drive. I’ve tried using clonezilla but it wouldn’t let me copy most of my data or let the new drive boot. Might have to try acronis true image a shot. Other than that any other tips for a successful clone? Thanks again for the helpful video!

      Does your replacement drive have slightly less storage than the original? That could be your issue even if the larger source drive has less data used than the total storage of the smaller destination drive. Some cloning software like Clonezilla can usually still do clone this by compressing and resizing partitions etc but definitely worth trying other software.

    • @BobertRads
      @BobertRads Год назад +1

      @@CemerianVids Nope, same exact storage space in the one I'm trying to clone to, in fact they're both the same drive (both 2 TB 980 Pros), but the one I'm cloning it to has the upgraded firmware. Unfortunately for me, I tried a suggestion from someone saying that I should override any errors while on clonezilla to get it to clone to the working drive. I did, and it took over 24 hours to clone everything over to the other drive due to many errors in the blocks. When I tried to boot from that drive, it encountered the same error as the broken drive, and even after fully formatting the previously working drive, I was unable to even install windows on it. Now instead of 1 totally broken drive I have 2 because I tried to override the errors. Not sure what happened, but yeah I was unable to clone the broken drive, and attempting to clone it to an identical 980 pro caused the new one to fail as well.

    • @CemerianVids
      @CemerianVids Год назад +1

      @@BobertRads It's extremely unlikely that the storage size of two drives will be exactly the same even if they're the same model. There is a 45gb difference between my two 2TB 980 Pros for example. You can compare LBA to get a more accurate idea of which drive is larger. If you clone a drive to a very slightly smaller drive without the software resizing partitions etc there's a big chance your cloned drive won't boot properly as you probably have missing or incomplete system files.

    • @BobertRads
      @BobertRads Год назад +1

      @@CemerianVids Not sure how to check LBA, but regardless after I tried cloning the 1st drive, the 2nd drive was unable to do anything even after formatting. i.e I was unable to install windows from a boot drive onto the 980 pro although previously I was able to prior to attempting to clone.

    Great video, but were you actually able to clone the original OS read-only drive? I get errors when attempting. I can access the file structure of the read-only drive when mounted as a secondary drive, but the files I need are in the Windows/User folder which you need to alter the security permissions to access, which can't be changed now. :(

    So I’ve had this dead 970 evo plus and been trying to figure out what was wrong with it. Now I know why. I’ve copied over most of the files that I want to keep to a different SSD. What do I do with the evo 970 plus that’s in read-only already? Is there no hope in fixing it?

      Yep, new firmware doesn't fix the problem, at least for the 990 pro 2tb.
      Mine died a couple of days ago. Yesterday found out that it is actually read-only. Luckily I made a complete backup to my 970 Evo as I was reinstalling windows 11 in an attempt to fix the problem. I updated the 990 firmware a couple of days after buying it, but it didn't solve the degradation issue.
      A week ago magician showed 'fair' status and yesterday it was 'critical'. I'm pissed off because I won't return the drive as my entire digital identity is on that drive. No more Samsung for me.

      I got it back by buying a simple hardware copy tool on Amazon. You have to buy a new SSD, plug it into one port and the broken one in the other port. You hit copy. And it copies stupidly one drive to the other. Took hours. Ended with a error. But it works perfectly.
