this song made me cry the first time i heard it. a ton of women go through this kind of situation, but it really hits home because of my sister. shes 35 now and shes been taking care of me and my siblings since she was 8. im grown and have moved out but ive seen my mom hit, yell, scream at her. she never said thank you. i thank my sister everytime i see her but she always says she'd do it again if it meant id turn out how i did. the labor of the house is too much, too much is expected, men do feel like kids, and people take advantage of them. my sister even dropped out of school to please my mother, she was trapped there until she was 26 (i was 15) and when she left i was the one to take her position. school, home, work. i dont talk to my mother anymore.

Oh my goodness! I always think of the pressure put on women by men when I hear this song, but the pressure put on you by a parent and from adult females can also be debilitating. You and your sister deserved better. We all do.

I just discovered this song the other day and I can’t get enough. It’s been on repeat since.

Look for the cacophony version. And you are justified in being exhausted from the emotional heavy lifting.

Is cacophony version the new one they put out recently? 1st- what does cacophony mean? and 2- if it is the newer version- I heard about it and it is next on my list and i am so excited to hear it!

Cacophony just means “mixture of sounds” and sometimes has a negative connotation. Yes it’s the new version on any streaming service and there’s an official video!
Frankly… it feels like an anthem.

I know I am late to the party, but in terms of the video its actually very amazing the detail in it. I'm going to try to quote someone else's deep dive into it. "@lanternure6122
I don't usually comment but no one is talking about the plates.
The song is literally about her being trapped in a loveless marriage and forced to be nothing but a tool for him, all the while he's eating off of a Blue Willow. The pattern on that dish is supposed to tell the story of a true love that was denied by the bride's father and ended in the couple becoming birds so they could be together. Her plate is a Blue Onion, based on a Chinese design that featured an Aster and a pomegranate. Asters represent many things in different cultures, but most notably love, faith and purity. Pomegranates in China represent fertility and a blessed future among other things. They are literally eating off dishes that show what their marriage should have been. Love, devotion and happiness but that's not what it ended up being.
It's such a subtle detail and I love it.
(also, although the design didn't originally feature an onion, I think it should also be noted that the word onion comes from the Latin word unio which, if I remember correctly, means unity or to unite." there are also other little details like her candle is almost burned down to the bottom (burning out) while his isn't even lit. It's pretty amazing :) I love when artists dive in this deep to their song's stories.
