Yes, women used to do all the housework. Now they do all the housework and hold down full time jobs.
Not quite "equality" is it?
And although men also worked hard, they had their free days, sundays and holidays. Women didn't. They were expected to do house chores on these days and prepare the festive meals on holidays etc.. Not to mention that this song still applies to many women today. I escaped that fate but my mother didn't for a very long time. Thankfully she is single and we kids are adults now.
The lyrics are genius and often have multiple meanings. Like “so that he never lifts a finger” can mean both that he doesn’t have to do any housework but it could also mean that he doesn’t physically abuse her.
In the music video the act of eating the pomegranate symbolizes many things. Under them is liberation
I saw this imbalance of power and stereotypical gender roles with my parents and grandparents. Up until the 70s, women weren't allowed to have a bank account, own property, or basically be independent. Their dependence of men was out of survival. The men would work 40 hours a week; the women would have to do ALL of the domestic and emotional labor and childcare which was a 24/7 job.
Even in 2023, there's still FAR too many men who believe this should still be the case except women also work so it's now 50% financial and 90-100% domestic labor.
I know women and have women in my life who would fit as the lady in the song. I absolutely love this song... Wonderful reaction...
So do I. Thank you 😊
@@cinemacodey😄😄☺☺
I’ve just discovered this song and it laid me out. It’s such a great representation of how women have been treated and what’s been expected of us throughout history. It’s been on my rotation constantly while I am…… doing the labor. Great reaction, girl 😊
If you had not found it already, her song 'notre dame' is different but beautiful, too.
This song was promoted to meby Spotify Algorithem yesterday, thank god!
Now I stream it all the time and binge reactions like yours in the evening. Great video!
never heard of it, thanks!
Cutiee❤
I love how much you loved this! ❤ Great video!
Yes this is my new fave song.
Ahhh! 😆 Just saw the part where your mom finished her second book! That’s so amazing, congratulations to her! 🎉
Kinda funny the ad before this was men's hair coloring😅
"traditional values" Two jobs, all the childcare, cooking and housework. ?????? NO. NO MORE. We are not farm animals. That is in THIS CENTURY people. It's not new. We've been stewing for GENERATIONS...."What, you on your period or something?" *throttle*
